I’d like this look so much more without the hip valance. Also, without the ring finger polish being a different color than the others.

    • Sarah

    • Daisy77

is this a thing? ring finger nail polish discrepancy. been seeing it.

      dress is pretty.

      • MoHub

Yep. Unfortunately, it’s a current trend.

      • Usually a feature nail is an actual feature, not just a slightly different shade though.

      • Violentcello

I’ve seen it a lot, but usually with a high-contrast color or, as Alicia said, with actual nail art. Here it just looks like she chipped her polish and didn’t have an exact match to fix it.

    • SugarSnap108

Yep, that pointless hip valance ruins it … though I’d also like a shorter hem, too. The nail thing is just stupid.

  • Sarah

I don’t think the color flatters her skin at all. She looks washed out and pasty and she is neither of those things.

    • Clash D

      true story

  • another_laura

Girl, That’s Not Your Color Palette? Also, too busy with top/skirt together. She has superior dress-wearing skills but this is not working for her.

  • MilaXX

I saw this on Fug girls yesterday. I mostly like this. The back view is really pretty. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the front pleat. It’s odd but she’s selling it.

    • demidaemon

Same here. That front pleat just feels extraneous.

  • Noah

The clashing dark red lip and orange-red shoe are making my eye twitch.

    • Anna

The collar and the nails are bugging me too (and in the close ups it looks like she’s done that “let’s paint a random nail a different colour” move).

  • MannahattaMamma

What is this AOL thing that it got so many star-type-people to show up in their pretty (or sort of pretty) clothes? And why is this woman wearing Auntie Em’s dress from “The Wizard of Oz,” although without the apron?

    • decormaven

There must have been some serious swag bags for attending this event.

    • Darren Nesbitt

AOL is falling in line with Hulu, Netflix, HboGo..etc. they have 16 new online shows. Zoe Saldana, Nicole Richie and Steve Buscemi have shows. Some look dumb others pretty interesting.

  • In_Stitches

She looks tired and a little pissed off. It’s hard to tell if the look is working or not with that kind of sales pitch. What I can say is that she’s got way too many clashing reds going on.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

in that last photo Zoe’s giving some tired bitch face, like, she’s more than ready to be gone.

    • Kent Roby

Maybe she’s having regrets about being in the miniseries remake of Rosemary’s Baby.

  • MoHub

Okay. I give up. Is there a comb-and-brush shortage no one has told me about?

    • Imasewsure

I suspect it’s a “normcore” artfully-stringy hair moment we are living through… ugh

      • Gatto Nero

“Normcore” — did you just coin that?

        • Sarah

Sadly, no. It is a bona-fide term. And a ridiculous one at that.

        • Imasewsure

No I wish I was that clever… we’ve been kicking it around for some time in the Emma Roberts/Emma Stone(?) posts and it’s a “thing”
in the fashion blogosphere for sure. It’s just an unfortunate plea for the illusion of normalcy that we really don’t need to see in our celebs!

          • demidaemon

It’s Roberts, of course. Only someone from that family would embrace a trend that douchetastic and hoity-toity.

  • malarson2

So pretty, girlie, flirty on top. The oddness around her waist reminds me, oddly, of what they always seem to try and do to Melissa McCarthy. It’s fanciness for fanciness’s sake and the I’d love the dress without it.

  • lunchcoma

There’s way too much going on there, and all of it’s frumpy.

  • Julie

She’d look cute in a burlap sack.

  • FibonacciSequins

This dress is pretty and girly, and I like how she accessorized. Too much purple in that red lipstick. Her hair is just messily laying there, with the flatness and the center part it doesn’t flatter her.

  • That is some seriously unflattering make up and the reds are clashing. She deserves to look better than this, she was in “Crossroads”!

    • Anna

She will ALWAYS be the rebellious ballerina in Center Stage to me.

      • YES. That movie is one of those where if it is on – no matter where – I will stop to watch it to the end.

        • Anna

“I am the best goddamn dancer in the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell are you?! NOBODY!!!”

          • I found Maureen to be way more sympathetic than Jody. WAY MORE.

          • Anna

Totally agree, Maureen was so much more interesting (and I thought that actress was adorable as Julia Stiles’s best friend in 10 Things I Hate About You). That actress who played Jody was so annoying too.

          • That scene where Jody is all, “Don’t tell me if I got in!” needed way more editing and lots more of Peter Gallagher wagging his eyebrows – falls flat every time.

          • Anna

YES, re: Peter Gallagher. The most painful scene for me is when she goes up to Cooper with those cookies and is all, “I brought some dessert…for next time.” My whole body just cringes. But then the other ballerina’s bitchface/mocking of Jody is pretty priceless.

          • …who hasn’t been there with cookies with another ballerina giving us bitchface…(that ballerina probably has been there as well…)

          • Anna

I was going through some boy drama myself at the time it came out so I can totally relate to the cookies. I watched Center Stage A LOT that summer.

          • Holla.

          • Stacy C

Peter G’s eyebrows are one of the best parts of the movie. I enjoy making fun of them every time I watch it! lol

          • Stacy C

She was also in the movie Drive Me Crazy with Sabrina the Teen Witch. She plays the bitchy best friend well.

          • Anna

I’ll have to check that one out, love Melissa Joan Hart!

          • demidaemon

I do too, but her current project is pure dreck. It’s an ABC Family comedy with Joey from Blossom and it is incredibly unfunny.

          • Anna

Oh yeah, I think I saw about 30 seconds of that the other day! It was terrible indeed.

          • demidaemon

I’ve only seen clips when MJH has been promoting the show, and those were enough for me to have two opinions: 1) This is terrible unfunny and 2) What ever happened to good comedy writing?

Of course, the comedies on ABC Family are particularly awful, but most network comedies aren’t really in a better boat, either. It’s sad.

          • Anna

OMG, yes. I was cooking dinner one night and had the TV on but was too lazy to change the channel and my God, the crap that is on that network. The other ridiculous one I remember was something called “Baby Daddy.” People have to try REALLY HARD to write that badly, right? I don’t think there’s any level of intoxication that could be reached in order to find that amusing.

          • demidaemon

I think you would have to be really high on multiple illicit substances to find these shows funny, and, even then, it’s a crapshoot.

But, yes, I imagine that either the writers are trying extraordinarily hard to make these unfunny scripts or they have absolutely no comic skills. Truth be told, as a writer, I never try to be funny because, the times that I have, it always falls incredibly flat. It’s when I am not trying that the humor springs forth. In other words, i am extremely envious of true comic writing talent, like that of Tina Fey.

  • Erica Woods Tucker

I think I like the way the model is wearing it better.

  • KinoEye

Why is the most universally unattractive hem length seen in recent months popping up everywhere? Especially on women who supposedly have great instincts and should know better?

Otherwise, it’s interesting and different. Not setting my world on fire, though.

  • Sarah

Is the green ring a relationship-related item? Because if it is, okay, but otherwise, it doesn’t go. And I wish she’d not been matchy with the shoe/neck bit red.

    • marlie

      It’s her engagement ring.

      • Sarah

Then I will leave it be. Also, I think it is super beautiful (I love green!). ‘Tis tough I guess to have a ring that is so large and speaks so brightly of a specific color and then have it correspond to everything you wear. Not worth bothering.

        • marlie

In discussing engagements rings with the bf*, I haven’t ruled out anything, so I’m ok with the idea of the ring not necessarily matching everything I wear.

*We’ve been discussing them for months, so that’s not news or a hint or anything. 😛

          • Sarah

I love my diamond because it was my mother’s, and she wore it for forty six years. Before I was sure I could get it, though, I was definitely considering an emerald, or an aquamarine, or a sapphire, or a GEMS SPARKLY GEMS WHATEVER.

          • demidaemon

          • Sarah

Hehee. Thank you sir! I am happy with my rose gold and diamond, but I’ve had a hankering of late for a blue zircon something because that’s my birthstone. They are rare and more expensive than I thought! It’s fun to look though.

          • demidaemon

I love to window shop for stuff too, even when I know I can’t afford it.

  • kim bunchalastnames

i’d like this more if she had broken it up with a solid color, like it’s shown on the model. too much fussy print on print. on print. … someday my prints will come.

    • kimmeister

How long have you been waiting to bust that one out? 😀

      • kim bunchalastnames

        let’s see … i’m 58, so … 55 years? yeah, that’ll do. lol.

  • Stella Zawistowski

I’m pretty sure I had that print, in those colors, on my Laura Ashley bedsheets when I was in college.

  • There is nothing about this look that I like…her hair is awful, the dress is too long, the shoes are ugly, the ring belongs with another outfit.
Well, I guess the clutch doesn’t suck.

  • alyce1213

It’s pretty, feminine, springy, and comes with its own napkin. Too long, but it’s okay.

  • Danielle

Girl, that’s not your hem length.

  • Imasewsure

Thought it was acceptably cute (ignoring the hair which I have already railed about in a previous outing)… until I got to the shoes… ugly awkward matching

  • ashtangajunkie

She looks better in this than anyone should, but this messy hair on the red carpet trend must die.

  • Gatto Nero

There’s too much of the print, which combined with this silhouette is somehow dowdy and headache-inducing at the same time.
I can appreciate an orange shoe as a complement to blue, but not with a pink neckline.

  • She’s worn some really unfortunate stuff lately, as far as I recall, so I am hoping this is fighting her way back to the top. Honeymoon is over, time to do some werq.

  • Qitkat

I like the print and the changing size in the peplum/not peplum, but not the shoes and collar/yoke. It also seems droopy, but that may be her hair influencing me.

Anyone have opinions on Rosemary’s Baby remake coming up that she stars in?

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Getting a definite Miss Crabtree vibe…

  • empath

She looks like she stepped out of that moment in 1984 when she was late getting back to the office after lunch and unfortunately left with the restaurant napkin tucked into the waistband.

This looks like 1980s office attire from Macy’s. Wasn’t a good look then; still isn’t a good look now.

  • crash1212

Put the model version on Zoe with those killer orange pumps and then you’d have something.

  • Little_Olive

The dress I like, except for that bib that is driving me crazy. That, together with the length, ruined the orange pumps’ chances.

Hair and makeup are simply unsalvageable.

  • Raspberry2012

The dress looks like it was current way before AOL!

  • Mothra

The necklace and the shoes gives me a sad.

  • GeoDiva

    She is giving killer face.

  • Vtg Fashion Library

I remember when Zoe used to kill it on the red carpet. ::sigh:: I miss those days.

    • conniemd

Yeah, she was really an interesting fashionista during her Star Trek pole dance. This is just sad.

  • demidaemon

I love the color combination of the dress and the shoes but hate the pleating around the waist.

  • She rarely pulls off anything really good …Shame …beautiful woman!

  • quiltrx

I don’t understand what Digital Newfronts are, and that’s stressing me out a little.
This is okay but I KNOW she can do better. If someone had this on at church, I would think it was really cute.

  • ankali

What happened to her? She used to be one of the best ladystars on the red carpet, but I feel like I haven’t seen a good outfit on her in over a year.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I think the words you’re looking for are #wompwomp. Because that’s all I can think when I see that sad outfit.

  • kategs

I really like this! It’s soft and graceful and then the punch of the shoes picking up the hue in the neck detail.

  • Clash D

I really want to see her rock a Vidal Sassoon haircut one of these days. Fashion gods – make it so!
That said, I don’t mind the dress but that clutch and those shoes have to go.
