I think I like this? She has a talent for wearing really strange dresses, but it’s been a disappointing few months for her, fashion-wise that this definitely seems like a step up. Maybe ditch the scarf bit and we’d have a winner.

    • MilaXX

I like the dress but I wish there was more oomph to the makeup. Either a bolder smokey eye or a bit of color on the lips.

      • greymain

        exactly.

      • decormaven

Yes. It’s so close, but the makeup needs more attention. Good suggestions!

      • Trent

This is completely OT but did you (or anyone) see her last night in Rosemary’s Baby? Because there were Hair Issues I wished to discuss. ( :

        • MilaXX

I didn’t bother because it just didn’t look like it was going to be any good. I haven’t heard any positive buzz on it so I haven’t bothered. I did see the commercials for it. Let’s just say the phrase “hair hat” comes to mind.

          • Trent

GURL. They clearly spent serious bucks on it, ’cause the Paris location shoots were gorgeous, but there was apparently no money left in the wig budget for Zoe. I mean, Dolly Parton’s hair looks more real. And Zoe produced it!

    • Missy

The side view is the best part about this dress, and she knows it. It looks like a big ol’ mess head-on, but the side view is exquisite.

    • Sarah

I like it, but I wish the top was a little less fussy. There’s something going on over her left boob (a fold?) that seems unnecessary, and I could probably do without the scarf piece.

      • Lucía Gavello

I agree, It makes her look like she has one droopy boob. A shame because it’s a very striking dress otherwise.

      • CNM

        My thoughts exactly.

      • Hysterectomypants

Agreed–it’s lovely from the waist down, but everything above the waist is weird overworked. And her makeup people kind of let her down here–she looks older and less radiant than usual, somehow, and I don’t think it’s just the glum expression.

      • http://sleepingfoxstitchery.weebly.com CLoverleaf

        Titscrepancy

      • Trent

Yes, but what *is* that above her left boob? Is it just part of the print, a fold, or some sort of 3-D applique? Whatever it is, it completely throws off the shape of the dress.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

The bodice is overworked-too much going on. If that bodice were simpler you would be able to appreciate the elements on the skirt much more.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Colour on the lips and no scarf piece and this would be amazing.

      • Carly Clement

mmm it is the saggy boob that is really throwing me off

      • demidaemon

My problem as well. It also feels like the dress a society matron wears to her latest gala, not a young actress’ Cannes RC dress.

    • BLauD

      Meh.
She looks like she’s either about to be sick or cry.

      • what not

Yes! All I can think is she looks like she’s trying not to cry. Can’t see the dress at all…

    • Anna

Zoe seems so glum, as if she’s not feeling this dress at all. She was radiant and all, “Stand back, French Riviera!” in the Victoria Beckham yesterday.

      • Kitten Mittons

I would be glum, too. Her dress is the fabric equivalent of a damn Rubik’s Cube, and her left boob ran away. Sometimes it just ain’t your day, y’know?

        • Anna

I didn’t even notice! In that case, she does have every reason to be glum.

          • Kitten Mittons

I had to look up more pictures of this one to see the back, and it really is fully covered on her right side, and backless on the left side. The boob drape thingy, plus the scarf trying to turn into a collar are a bit much. I wish it had just been backless with an actual scarf draping down her back.

I hope Ikea provided instructions and a hex wrench when they shipped it to her.

            • Anna

No kidding! Upon closer inspection on the model, it also looks like it’s puckering oddly on her too. Maybe I interpreted that all wrong, she’s not glum, she’s annoyed. I know I would be!

            • Kitten Mittons

A pity, because it could be very striking. And she’s so purty.

    • marlie

This is interesting, but weird. I hate the droopy boob thing going on, and there’s something weird about the color of the seam, but it’s an interesting dress, and could have been outstanding if the fit were better.

Also, I guess burnout velvet really IS back.

    • @Biting Panda

You know what I fucking hate? I hate it when people tell me I look like I’m tired. So, I’m not going to tell Ms. Zoe that she looks tired….but I am going to recommend some shut eye and a tall glass of something refreshing.

      • marlie

Just the other day I said something about not feeling so well, and the person responded “yeah, you look terrible.” I DID feel terribly, and I later found out that it was the onset of a bad cold, but I was like “Did you really have to say that?”

Edit: My cold isn’t *that* bad. Just annoying.

        • Danielle

I get “you look like you’re not feeling so good” every day. I’m gestating a human being, of course I look like hell.

          • Kitten Mittons

I’m sorry, don’t they know that’s illegal to say to a pregnant lady?

            • Danielle

I think the best “Illegal” thing I ever heard was “Are you SURE it’s not twins? You’re huge!” Yes, I’m sure, thanks!

            • marlie

That person is asking to get their ass kicked.

            • Kitten Mittons

Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

          • gabbilevy

How DARE you not look all pregnancy!glowy. You’ve failed the first step of motherhood!

            • Danielle

I’ll fail again when it takes a year plus to get my “POST BABY BOD!!!!!” back.

            • DebbieLovesShoes

A year? My “baby” is 19 and I’m still pursuing that post baby bod. I’m sure you look fantastic, Danielle!

          • marlie

That’s not something I’d EVER say to someone, especially if they’re gestating.

            • Danielle

You have common sense though, Marlie love. <3

            • marlie

So THAT’S what it is. ;)

I’ll often go with “how are you feeling?” and let the mom-to-be direct the conversation.

            • DebbieLovesShoes

              Right?

        • Kitten Mittons

Yeah, that almost always comes off sounding kind of rude. The correct response was, “Oh you poor baby, here’s some tea and a cookie.”

      • Fuchsiaforever

OMG, thank you I was just thinking, gosh, what has happened to Zoe? She does not look fresh…somethings off like she needs vitamins or food or a retreat or something. Her hair looks limp, her dress, herself, all limp. and there is no shine or sparkle to her eyes…I dunno…Maybe it’s the jet lag + too much partying @ Cannes?

      • marlie

Also, I blame her makeup. This is not the most flattering makeup job that I’ve seen on her.

      • mjude

        god bless you darling

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Yeah, and this isn’t just a recent thing with her. I’ve been concerned about her health for a while.

      • kimmeister

I hate it when people tell me I look tired, when I’m not particularly tired.

    • sienna elm

      gorgeous!

    • WaterGhost

Face + Attitude = Awesome. I could look at her all day.

    • V No Privacy

Why is her left boob deflating?

    • JP

That boob drape is not doing her any favors.

    • ktr33

Hate the heavy material, hate that boa constrictor scarf thing choking her, hate her lack of lip color. Except in the big smile picture, she looks damn wan. And her hair looks over processed and damaged. Something’s not right, Miss Clavell.

    • EEKstl

I wish that Neck Thing weren’t there but very pretty. Between this and what JLaw was wearing recently it appears as if the bias cut is on the way back, and that makes me happy. It’s very flattering on me. Wait…this IS all about me, right?

    • deelup

Loved her style during the Star Trek promos so much. I liked that style on her too. This is a little desperate to still be wealthy, bankrupt socialite still wearing a velvet dress that moths have eaten away at.

    • steve

It’s not a dress that should be worn during daylight hours. Very 1920’s socialite eloping with crown prince on the heels of a revolution.

      • bluefish

        LOVE!

    • Kristi Mitchell

I thought it was super pretty the first time I saw it.. . at my prom . . . circa 1999

      • marlie

I’m pretty sure I wore this dress to a college formal right around the same time.

      • kimmeister

Yeah, the long sleeveless maxi with a matching scarf is very 90’s. They just didn’t have huge honking back cutouts.

    • msdamselfly

Not a good moment for Zoe

    • Annmarie Kane

The dress is attacking her. It’s devoured her left boob and is going for the right one…

    • JauntyJohn

This has such an odd, limp drape that, combined with the weirdly pointless neck piece, there’s a whiff of Grey Gardens around it.

    • webslice33

the dress didnt work for her, it was pretty with the model wearing it..

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Great look. Too bad she has no lips.

    • ThaliaMenninger

I hate to be the one to tell you, Zoe, but there is something very wrong with your left boob.

    • bluefish

Not so much with the cutout velour look but isn’t she lovely?

    • FibonacciSequins

She’s swimming in it. Looks gorgeous on the model.

    • traceyishere

      Looks like she has Scoliosis.

    • mickiemonkey

Girlfriend looks depressed. Looks like she needs a good cry and a pizza.

    • Lisalady161

It’s a stunning dress on a stunning woman, but it comes off as very meh for some reason.

    • boweryboy

She couldn’t find one in her size?

    • Pennymac

Goodness, Zoe. You look like you need a nap!

    • Bad Idea Jeans

Am I looking at burnout velvet? I think this dress belongs back in the 90s. That back view is pretty spectacular, but she’s got a spectacular back.

    • camillegal

hem the damn thing. its puddling on the ground.

    • BrooklynBomber

Interesting. But I don’t think her heart is in it.

    • demidaemon

She is in love with the weird bust treatments lately. I don’t really like this dress at all. It’s just too fussy and kind of matronly. I will give her that she is selling the shit out of it.

    • jw_ny

Gorgeous dress and slammin’ on her, but girl…ya look like ya need a nap…

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

I heard she’s still on that red carpet…posing away! Dreary dress.

    • AnneElliot

The asymmetry is making my eyes twitch. It looks like Zoe’s version has more beading or foofaraw added, which isn’t doing it any favors. (Unless it’s just the way the light is hitting it). The original version is better. I wonder if the weight of additional green bits are weighing the fabric down so that it doesn’t lay as nicely, or maybe it’s just distracting. And I agree that her makeup looks underdone. Too bad, because it could have been a real WERQ.

    • Jennifer Bober

Okay, I must admit, I’m having trouble with the facial expressions. When she’s not smiling, instead of bitch face it comes across as trying to hide the pain. We can’t see her feet, so maybe there are some killer shoes…literally.

I can live with the scarf, but the gapping in the front has got to go. It should be fitted to her better, but that’s hard to do when you don’t have a back to provide any tension on the fabric.

    • MarissaLG

Unfortunate draping around the chest. Other than that she looks very much like a Serious Actress. I like the back cut out a lot too.

    • holla

she looks 10 years older than she really is with that hair and make up

    • Gorengirl

She looks tired and miserable. Maybe they made her watch Rosemary’s Baby before she hit the red carpet

    • Liza Ortiz

she need’s color on her lips
