• Nancer

Oh my! Impractical but so much fun!

  • RussellH88

They looks like really fun, ornate pieces.

The ones covered in key holes almost looks like props from the Harry Potter movies.

    • PlethoraofBooks

Or Steampunk. I would love to own that blue one at the beginning.

  • @Biting Panda

  • Noah

    Yea! Yay, even!

  • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Most of these look like they are over embellished simply to justify an astronomical price tag. I like a few of them, but most I find really overstated.

    • ballerinawithagun

Etsy: opened my grandmother’s jewelry box and look what I made!

    • Jessica Freeman

“um, just glue some more shit on there, it’s not expensive enough yet”

    • BrooklynBomber

      ^What you said.

    • Ginmaru

“Do-Dad Bags” but I do love the burgundy one….hangs her head in shame.

  • imspinningaround

I expect to see Taylor Swift toting all of these at the same time.

  • http://www.luxperdiem.com/ Paige @ LPD

yay to everything but the frog one.

  • clatie

I like them to look at but most of them seem like you would carry them for about a week and a half and get really sick of them. some of them are straight up crazy old lady material.

  • Glam Dixie

This is a yea for me, I like them all. My birthday is next month. kthanx

  • SayWhaaatNow

I can get on board with most of these.

  • Jackie4g

Escutcheons as appliqued decoration? Escutcheons belong on hard case furniture like highboys and chests of drawers! Those bags are going to cost the earth and constantly have stuff falling off them. Can you imagine a toddler anywhere near one of those bags? Pick, pick, pick, until the jewels fall right off. Nice to look at, impractical to own.

    • kimmeister

I just learned the word “escutcheon,” thanks!

      • Jackie4g

It has a good sound, doesn’t it? Another of those “pertains to furniture” words is finial. I like that one, too!

        • kimmeister

Indeed! I would have thought “finial” was an adjective. Now I know!

        • TheDivineMissAnn

I, too, am a fan of finial. Just rolls off the tongue.

But even if all those purses had finials, I would dislike 95% of them.

        • smayper

I love finial! My sister taught it to me when she was helping with curtains. I associate escutcheons with the Knights Templar.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

          I do like finial.

    • not_Bridget

The Keno Twins will be incensed that vintage furniture was mutilated to produce these items!

Kind of pretty, but not useful. Some high-end bags incite my envy–but not these. However, I’m wondering where I put that glue gun….

  • MK03

Big fat NAY. I could make these myself with $15 worth of crap from Jo-Ann’s.

    • TrixieConQueso

Excellent! I will buy the blue one with the dragonfly when you are done!

    • demidaemon

Then you can charge an arm and a leg afterwards and make a huge profit. IT”S FASHION!

  • Capt. Renault

    Very Patsy and Eddie.

  • SewingSiren

My mother used to keep her rosaries in a black leather box purse from the 1950’s. I have had a life long fascination with little box purses ever since.

  • Coco Cornejo

Jo-Ann Craft Store chic — meh.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Yea to all the keyhole faceplate ones. Especially the blue velvet. Undecided on the rest.

  • BobStPaul

  • Anna

I snorted out loud at the lock ones, they are like fabulously expensive and ornate purse versions of what I’m sure I would’ve wanted the diaries I kept when I was 12 to look like: “Anna’s Diary: KEEP OUT!!!”

Yay to the purple the door knocker and the last one.

  • colorjunky

    I like!

  • 25or6to4

NAY, but each would definitely be great in terms of self-defense… Just look at that hardware!

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

I like your thinking. You see a collection of heavily embellished, outrageously expensive high-fashion purses, and ponder, “How can I weaponize these?”

      • 25or6to4

        Fashion MUST be functional, dahling.

      • demidaemon

Perfect when you are going into know pickpocket and/or mugger territory! I think we’ve found their ad campaign.

  • mjude

one of my closet friends glues stuff on everything. seriously it looks like his work! LOL

  • Garcia Loca

    Cat lady couture.

  • AnnaleighBelle

    Let’s stick stuff on stuff.

  • BlairBear

Nay. These just look lazy with haphazardly tacked on ornamentation that detract from the gorgeous materials involved.

  • sienna elm

The keyhole ones are awesome! The bedazzled ones not so much. So I guess I’ll go with both Yea AND Nay.

  • Judih1

Half seem like something I saw on Etsy. The other half seem like something my grand mother wore to church

    • ballerinawithagun

Whoops, didn’t see your comment, posted something similar!

  • Mona_Visa

In Freudian thought, purse = vagina. So that purse with all the locks on it is very intriguing.

    • DuBey2

Hmmm, Was it Freudian when the humongous bags (aka suitcases) started hitting the designer’s shelves 10 or so years ago?
Glad I never got 1 of them!

  • MoHub

Interesting as art, but I wouldn’t carry one. And they look weighty as well.

  • kimmeister

I will jump in with a contrary opinion and say I don’t like the keyhole ones but can’t help but like the bejeweled ones. Ambivalent yea?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

These are cute for upcycles, not Dolce & Gabbana.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1234087433 Jen Freeman

    Love. Especially the keyhole ones!

  • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

The simpler ones are quite nice (#10 in particular). The rest are insecure and overcompensating.

  • Lani A. George

  • Shug

Love them. Especially the first half. The antique finishes are fantastic.

  • boweryboy

NAY. They’re a bit too precious.

  • MilaXX

YAY except for that one really Christmas-y looking bag. Some of them are a little on the gaudy side, but I like them anyway.

  • KendraMR

They’re very grandma chic. I like them all except for the ones with door locks.

  • Danielle

Oh, that reminds me. I need to go to Restoration Hardware for new drawer pulls. Thanks, Uncles.

  • PastryGoddess

I confess I am biased towards anything shiny. I love these. I really shouldn’t because they look like craft projects. But Jewels, shaped like animals and insects.

  • Alyssa_T_Robot

i don’t particularly covet any of them but i might carry one to a formal event. maybe. although they’re kinda whimsical and fun, i’m on the fence.

  • Cheryl

Half and half, some I like a lot, others I’m meh about. I do think they are fun, but probably tricky to carry. I don’t mean that I would know where to locate the handle, but what to wear with something with that much ornamentation wouldn’t be easy.

  • Jessica Freeman

Yay-ish. I love the second half much better. The key holes and door knocker section is a Nay for me.

  • lalahartma

I say yes, but not TOO enthusiastically.

  • GillianHolroyd

LOVE!! Going out of my mind with bag lust!

  • zuzu

I feel like I could make some of these with a cigar box and a hot glue gun.

  • FrigidDiva

My inner magpie says “Yea! SHINY!” But the more practical side says nay, they look like the accessories I made for a gaudy jewelry contest (which I won).

  • JauntyJohn

Yea. While some will be abused, the talented will use them as the absolute perfect pop of bright/shiny/color.

  • Sarah

I like them. I could use a few less lock-ety bits on the ones that have that, but overall they are fun and cute.

  • schadenfreudelicious

    I am a sucker for a fancy escutcheon, want…

    • MaggieMae

I love it when you throw around your proper hardware vocabulary!

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

  • Mrs. O

I’ll buy a knockoff as soon as onre appears on Etsy.

    • Jessica Freeman

I’m sure this has been on Etsy long before D&G created it.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I like the black/silver/crystal ones. Yea, because they would make nice trinket boxes. Nay because as a bag they’re not very versatile.

  • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

They look like stuff you made at summer camp, or what you dug out of Granny’s closet from the 40’s and 50’s. Particularly here in Florida.

  • ThaliaMenninger

They look like what Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Which should be carrying their junk in as they fly around the universe.

    • P M

      What is that from?

      • Lori

        A Wrinkle In Time

        • P M

Going on the ever longer reading list – thanks!

    • Kitten Mittons

Now I definitely want one. The green one, please.

  • formerlyAnon

Yea, but not for me. I kind of hate them, but that’s personal preference. I can see most of these working like gangbusters in the right hands.

  • Lori

I like some of these, but too many of them feel like craft projects or like someone was designing all hopped up on coke and just didn’t know when to stop. Overall the collection is a nay.

  • majorbedhead

I prefer the ones without all the bejeweling. That purple one with the handle that looks like a drawer pull is my favorite.

  • LaSylphide

Yea. Don’t care much for the keyhole bags, but the jeweled are fun.

  • frannyprof

My inner eight-year-old is screaming at me to get at least one, two, three of these.

  • Lisalady161

A few of them spin into the “T-A-C-K-WHY???” realm for me, but I think most of them are over-the-top fun and would carry them happily. I WANT that Black Tapestry Bag. Yea!

  • Tee

These bags are the love children of Donatella Versace and Tim Holtz. Overall a yea!

  • Pennymac

    YAY! My inner magpie rejoices!

  • crash1212

    YAY! x infinity!

  • VicD

  • smayper

My grandmother had one like this, with fake jewels all over it. I adored it when I was five, so my heart is kind of warm when I see these, tacky or not.

  • MaggieMae

Overall, YAY. Some, for me, are NAY.

  • conniemd

Nay. Looks like craft bags I could have made up from yard sale purses with plastic costume jewelry bought at same yard sale.

  • shopgirl716

Love them. Can’t wait to buy an affordable knock off.

  • Ginmaru

I would have to sell my house, my van and maybe my kids to get that third one down with the owl on it. I have loves for it.

  • Lily

    Yay! Each and every one.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

    Tacky, party of two!

  • Colleen

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Like most things D&G, they are overdone and way too precious. However, if I received one as a gift, I wouldn’t pout, so I guess that’s a YAY.

  • Dany

    No offense, but this collection is D & G meets a be-dazzler.

  • Bethany Roullett

Yay to the hardware ones. NAAAAYYYY to the costume jewelry ones.

  • gsk241

I’m not usually a fan of D&G bags, but I’m going to say YEA to these. Especially the first one.

  • Mr. J.

They look like they come from the vaults of the Vatican….Price Waterhouse should commission some to hold the Oscar votes.

  • judybrowni

Somebody at D&G got gift cards for Micheal’s and a hardware store, and had a glue gun party.

  • marlie

A little too fussy, but overall, a YEA.

  • FibonacciSequins

Nay to the keyhole keyplates, yes to everything else. Extreme beading embellishment on bags doesn’t usually bother me.

  • Gatto Nero

Yea to the black and silver ones.
    The others hurt my eyes.

  • Synnamin

Absolutely YEA. I’m generally “meh” on D&G in general, but I love these

  • Kirstin McAulay

I’ll take ALL the steampunk ones…

  • V No Privacy

    YAY! one of each please!

  • Qitkat

  • Man Dala

Yea. Love the ones with the encrusted stone froggy.

  • Mothra

I kind of like them. Especially the ones with the bees and frogs in jewels. And the less-bejeweled ones are kind of elegant looking. So, I go with YAY.

  • semirose

I can’t even tell what’s happening in that last one, my eyes keep getting confused. I don’t hate the keyhole ones but I wish the placement was a bit more…random I guess. The ones with the bejewled fauna look like someone thought “hey let’s make a bag to stick a bunch of broaches on so I always have options!”

  • venusvelvet

Too forgetful to trust myself with clutches, but the purple one and the 2 small beaded ones are adorable.

  • kategs

yea on every single one of them!

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Yea! I loves them! Yea again!

  • LJCdoc

some of these are as tacky as shit, yet I love them anyway.

  • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Boy, the one in the header lured me in and the rest of them punched me in the face. These bags give me cognitive dissonance. Gaudy and frumpy.

  • Julie Parr

#1 and #2 remind me of the interior of the Barnes Foundation.

  • DesertDweller79

Tacky. I’m pretty sure I could have made one of these with leftover materials from my grandmother’s craft supply store. They look like what I would have made at age 12 and thought “excessive” was equivalent to “fashionable”

  • Valdri8

Lurv – but then I love the inside of the Barnes Museum

  • Linda Leeson

So they’re doing a collection for KMart?

  • demidaemon

I like most of these, except for the ones with the two dollar beaded animals and the ones that look like they fell into a bedazzler pit. Those ones are just either too juvenile (the former) or too tacky (the latter).

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Some I like, but too many look like a bad diy project.

  • anotherkate

I like the bejeweled bugs because I like whimsy, but as a whole this collection is just too baroque and over-embellished for me.

  • bowlwoman

Such a total YAY! I need half of these for my steampunk costume, and the bejeweled frogs/bugs because I just love frogs and dragonflies.

  • ricky rocky

VERY fussy. something so fussy would be good with jeans…

  • somebody blonde

Yay! They’re very cute. Not necessarily my style, but I’d love to see them with one of my girlier friends.

  • nostylewhatsoever

Enid Collins bags from the 60s and 70s. Everyone’s grandmother (and my great-grandmother) had one.

  • Alexis Wenceslao

  • Viviennne

  • mdcoon127

Mainly yes, a couple look too granny for my taste…

  • Yuju Ti

Some of the handles are not perfectly aligned with the lock and it really bothers me!!! LOVE the last clutch though.

  • SorayaS

    Nay- too “crafty”

  • Fannie Wolston

Mercy! those are insane! did I spot one with gimp braiding ala Corde? Gorgeous!

  • Izzy_Gremlin

I think I see two that I wouldn’t be ashamed to carry. Especially anywhere within 1000 yards of a craft store or Home Depot. Cute idea, badly executed.

  • Aidan B

Definite yea. I find their clothes overworked and gaudy but I think they really shine in the accessories.

  • gitchygitchymama

My guess is being ‘locked-up’ was this seasons ‘inspiration’!

  • http://classversussass.com Class Versus Sass

  • The Rat

I think all those locks reference their brief brush with prison. 😉
