I like the idea of the dress a lot more than I like the actual garment. It makes even the model look wide and shapeless, and the effect is worse on a non-model (I can’t imagine what it would do to a mere mortal who isn’t in entertainment at all).
definitely this goes too boxy on her. just does unfortunate things to a girl im sure has a lovely shape.
fabric is pretty in an typically odd, katrantzou sort of way. hating the shoes and the too tight ponytail. let’s never speak of the makeup again.
The fabric really is lovely. I think it might have worked on either a ball gown or a skirt, but this isn’t the right cut to feature it. And, yes, the styling is completely off.
It’s a cool dress, but she can’t pull it off. The dress is wearing her.
I fear that dress would wear anyone trying to wear it. It’s certainly wearing the poor model…
Aaah, looks like she succumbed to a “Better in Theory” FMO dress.
Burn the shoes if possible.
I can take or leave the dress. Hate the shoes, ankle bracelets (or shoes with ankle bracelets), and the WAY-too-heavy eye makeup. They aren’t helping a dress that’s in the “maybe” category at all.
They pushed a dress that’s right on the edge of ok/not ok firmly over to the NOPE side.
I actually really like the eye make-up, because it is making her eyes look extremely striking and beautiful.
Those shoes DEMAND a fresh pedi. Tsk tsk, sis.
Plus, you have to be REALLY careful when crossing your legs at the ankle . . . .
That pedi is sad, sad, sad. Wearing those type of “look at me!” shoes with that pedi? Bad move.
That makeup and hair does her no favors, and neither does the shape of the dress.
And I think this is one of the rare times I would have advocated for a white pump – her torso is in Summer and her feet are in Fall.
In theory these landscape dresses can work, but in practice I never like them. It doesn’t help that those shoes are odd. That superfluous 2nd strap doesn’t go with the rest of the shoe, so why is it there?
WHY is this style of top so popular right now? ASDFGHJKL
So totally agree. What mortal woman has a figure that can support a mushroom bodice with a stem waist? It’s just unflattering to the figure, besides reminding me of mushrooms.
“To the left. To the left. Now back to the right. No, I don’t think that painting will work here. Let’s go in the other room and you can stand against the wall there.”
Ouch. Those proportions are all wrong!
Dress is cute; I like it. The shoes, they do not go. I dig the flat ones on the model – they look fresher.
Super-stiff dress (and the graphic is just way overdone), and the eyeliner really doesn’t go with it.
I don’t think that eyeliner goes with anything.
Something super-goth, or over-the-top sexy. I dunno, it has to be just the right type.
oh no. she is a cute girl too, but…lord no.
No. Reminds me of those vans painted up that way from the 1970s.
Or–quiana picture shirts!
Yes, those too! She should have her hair cut in a page boy, center parted, and curling iron wings on either side of her face. Which is sporting pale blue eyeshadow.
She is wearing a New Jersey level amount of eyeliner and mascara.
I would resent that if I weren’t from New Jersey.
Couldn’t even get past the head. A true crime against humanity. And she is so young!
That is Not Her Dress. Or makeup, or shoes. Nice effort, but please try again! Although I appreciate the dress is a normal length (aka, not super short!).
She’s very young and she has no idea what she’s doing (or what they’re doing to her). Sophia Loren eye makeup on a 13-year-old? She has no business wearing that dress, it’s for very few, or maybe no one.
she has beautiful eyes, large & almond-shaped & an unusual color, and that eye makeup makes them look simultaneously smaller and larger, and possibly fake. How weird.
She’s got Sarah Jessica Parker eyes. It’s hard to fit that line into a catchy pop song.
SJP eye makeup. SJP’s eyes are close-set and smallish. This girl’s eyes are wide-set and very large, she can handle such makeup, but not at her age.
I know. But there’s no song about eye makeup (that I’m aware of), so I said this instead.
Too much dress for this slip of a thing. She looks like she’s feeling claustrophobic.
Lord. I didn’t even recognize our little Primrose Everdeen.
That’s who this is? Holy macaroni, I never would have guessed. While I’m amused that she’s dressed like a clueless teen, nothing here is very flattering or goes together.
I didn’t realize that this was Primrose, either!
Yup. I realize she’s a teen, but it comes off as try-hard because she missed the mark by a mile.
Katniss would not approve. Effie Trinket would be appalled.
This needs a PhD level dress wearer.
I’m sorry Willow, but you’re not that.
She hasn’t even graduated high school level wearing yet. Let’s start with something a little less difficult, no?
The dress is kind of fab but the awful shoes and the awful ponytail are not keeping up with the dress.
That’s a ridiculous dress, and this young girl couldn’t pull it off even if it were much nicer. It’s all too much!
A dress with a bridge across the chest and a lake covering the entire mid-section is a no from me.
And the water seems to be draining off…
Nice enough print, but comes across as unfortunately placed.
Dress is okay. Hate the shoes with the dress. Face is okay but the eyes are far too heavy for the dress or the hair style. The whole look is just a hodgepodge mess.
Her eyes are amazing, but ooof. Not feeling this dress or that scraped back hair at all.
Surely “Huh?” was not the reaction that the designer hoped people would have to this dress. But I stared at it for a long moment and went, “. . . Huh?”
Giving new meaning to ‘a river runs through it’.
I think she’s a beautiful girl with lovely eyes, and (like S. Ronan), I like that she’s wearing something off the beaten-path. That said … I’m not sure the top of that dress would flatter anyone, and I wouldn’t have paired those shoes with this dress. At all. Period. And I would have styled her hair differently.
Very cute. Maybe a little scene stealish for someone who is not in the movie.
I would have loved this dress when I was 17. These days I find it over-designed. Too many details, collar, twee sleeves. The busy patterns in the top of the dress is fighting the busy pattern in the bottom of the dress, even if they are suppose to be a scroll down of a Monet painting. The way the dress is designed it is all too much. And the spikes on the shoes are one element too many with this look. With a different dress they’d be killer.
She’ll go through an entire bottle of makeup remover to get rid of that crap around her eyes, which she should do immediately. I also don’t like her shoes or her hair. Or her dress.
So Much Hate.
It’s waaay too much in a cluttered Grandma’s den way and weirdly vacant at the same time. (That might be her and her non-hairdo.)
A bridge too far.
love the shoes, but not with that dress, don’t love the dress on her, HATE the pedicure!
Bad make-up, bad shoes. The dress is not as flattering as it should be.
I kind of understand the thinking that seems to have gone into this: Hair slicked back because big print/dress + big hair = too much big, but big eye makeup needed because otherwise all you see is big print/big dress. I think the shoes are cute, but they look like they walked in from another outfit. The earrings just make no sense at all to me; I wonder if they’re a family piece or something.
I feel like it was probably a success on paper but probably shouldn’t have gotten out the door.
That wasn’t the dress she was planning on wearing, was it? Because that makeup and those shoes were NEVER intended for this dress. So something happened to the first choice, they threw this one on her and whacked a bit of blue tippex over her toes to make it look deliberate.
The story in my head is that she was at a gallery before the event, when suddenly some jerk spilled coffee on her original dress. Quick, pull down a large canvas painting! Off she goes, barely making it to the premiere on time.
That’s the only explanation for how those shoes could’ve been paired with this dress.
ALL REAL bad! That dress is like those vintage lamps that have pictures that rotate around the base and are lit from behind!
DO NOT WANT.
Sweetie, that’s not your dress, shoes, or makeup.
Oh honey… interesting designer but not that dress (and not that hair and not those shoes)…
oh em gee, you guys – she’s 13!!! a wee baby!!! i like the dress and want her to wear less makeup and flats now!!! lol
I can’t even get to critiquing the dress, because I’m so utterly horrified by the hair and makeup.
Her poor feet! She must have been in agony!
Girl that’s not your painted armour.
Yeah, never try to rock something Lupita Nyongo’s already rocked.
Anyone with even slightly more than model sized boobs cannot wear dresses with those kinds of tops (and even then it’s iffy). And gosh with that makeup and those shoes I was hoping she was at least 16, waaaaay too much for 13.
Oh dear. Bless her heart.
When I am Empress of the Universe, Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto will be sent to live on a remote island where they can keep their ugly designs to themselves.
The neckline and hair are fabulous, her makeup is good (if a little heavy under the eyes), but that is so not her silhouette. I don’t think it’s anybody’s silhouette. The shoes are an obvious no, never, on anyone. Her eyes are remarkable. Like mother, like daughter.
Who the heck is her mother?
Should I know who that is or what her eyes look like? Is she an actress, etc.?
She’s not soup yet.
Uh…um… stutter… uhh …
Nobody’s dress — what is that little 3-d thing swinging out? For a dress with such a crazy busy Giverny print, just make it a straight shift. or is it a little bolero on top of a dress? Can someone help me understand?
Teenage mall hair and make-up.
Pearl earrings? whaat?
Iridescent spiky ankle bracelets?
Strappy red patent sandals binding young toesies
I mean… I just … ah…
Why shouldn’t she have a Chinese landscape engulf her torso?
Does someone have a vendetta against this poor girl! Cut is horrible, accessories all wrong – try hard and just plain ugly. It’s just mean to make someone young and pretty dress like this and paint her face so hideously!
This is a bit too weird for me, though I admit her eyes are really popping and beautiful.
Possibly FMO. I can’t figure out whether she is built with the shoulders of an Olympic swimmer or the dress just makes her look as if she is. Unflattering silhouette, regardless.
The hair and makeup are far too severe for her.
There’s “architectural” fashion and then there are clothes that look like actual architecture. Not to say it’s awful, but it’s not good.
Thought Shailene Woodley when I saw the thumbnail.
Points for trying something different, but, Girl, that is not your dress.
The hair and makeup look so cheap I gave up by the time I got to the neck.
the combo of the hair/makeup/and dress make this girl look like an off-duty ice skater.
OK – I know it’s not really right to criticize someone’s body/face shape, etc. because it is what it is but … That eye makeup combined with that slicked back hair just accentuates her ears in a bad way. It makes her look like an elf.
