That droopy strap together with the side-hair is making me sad.

  • marlie

This is really pretty. Gorgeous, even. But that droopy sleeve thingy on her right arm is annoying. Get rid of that, and we’d have one outstanding look. For real, though, check out that necklace!

ETA: Oh yeah – and she needs color on her face. She looks too washed out.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Well, the droopy strap is there because Naomi had to quickly regroup after her quicky with Liev in the limo.

    • Lucía Gavello

Can’t see the dress… the bling is off the charts!

      • marlie

For real. That stone is ginormous!

    • lunchcoma

Yeah, that isn’t the good kind of asymmetry. It just looks like it’s the end of the night, she’s had too much fun, and her dress is falling down. I mean, I’ve been there myself, but it wasn’t on purpose!

  • FibonacciSequins

I have such an impulse to yank up her right shoulder strap – which is what that piece of fabric should be. Then it would be a stunning look. Love the necklace.

    • @Biting Panda

That one curl of hair is making me crazy!!

    • AnneElliot

And turn that necklace around. A stone that big should be in front. I’d be so afraid someone could just walk up and yank it off without anyone noticing. Though it probably has its own bodyguard.

Unless the necklace is also askew because of the quickie in the limo?

      • FibonacciSequins

“Unless the necklace is also askew because of the quickie in the limo?”

I’ll go with that explanation! 😉

  • DagnyReardon

Tired of the necklace on backwards trend.

    • @Biting Panda

Shouldn’t they have made sure her ass looked spectacular? The dress is rather unflattering back there.

      • kirkyo

Ha. My first thought was “nice ass.” I think there’s just some unfortunate shadowing in that one pic.

        • @Biting Panda

Agreed. Her actual ass is, on point, as they say. The seaming, drab color, were more of what I was poo pooing.

      • jw_ny

Really?! And here I was thinking she was giving Pippa a run for her money….

  • Michele

I don’t understand why this movie is premiering at Cannes. It’s a cartoon sequel. Why the long gowns and red carpet treatment? I’m confused. Oh yeah, Naomi looks pretty.

    • demidaemon

    • MilaXX

Cartoons have been at Cannes for a while now. Madagascar 2 was there last year.

    • bizarro

The first HTTYD was soooo good. One of the few kid’s movies that parents can also enjoy.

      • kimmeister

I liked it because the Dragon reminded me of a cute kitty cat!

        • Sam Smith

Toothless reminds me of my dog, isn’t that funny.

    • bluefish

HTTYD 1 was a great film and has become kind of a cult thing — I know because my son is fanatically devoted to it and eager for 2. It’s a charming movie — and a proven money-maker. Why not?

    • Alicia

Maximising interest. If it were all Von Trier films the news outlets wouldn’t go, the sponsors wouldn’t hand over frocks and the whole Cannes smoke and mirrors would collapse. Whereas here you have a celebrity that I am not hugely interested in wearing a label I am not hugely interested in pimping a movie I have NO interest in and being all completely interesting and newsworthy.

  • @Biting Panda

To paraphrase Mother Chanel, just one thing.

    • Imasewsure

And can we make that one thing, the ugly dress? Merci!

  • KateShouldBeWorking

The squats are paying off, girl.

  • BLauD

Droopy off the shoulder drapery will never not look like someone didn’t just rush into their gown or grab a quicky in the limo. Combined with the backwards necklace and weird hair… I’m going with she got some.

  • ceceliadid

Wow, that is super fancy for … How to Train your Dragon *2*?

    She looks pretty, of course.

    • marlie

How to Train Your Dragon 2, AT CANNES.

      • Lori

That is not a sentence that should exist outside parody and yet, here we are. Naomi’s look is definitely Cannes, this movie isn’t.

        • demidaemon

I am just as confused as everyone else on how this happened.

      • Belvane

This should be tacked on to fortune cookies instead of “in bed” — You will find great satisfaction and success … at Cannes.

      • ceceliadid

Even at Cannes … a sheath in a primary color, or even a metallic that looked a bit medieval, would have tied her to the theme a little better. This is just random bling-dripping.

  • WaterGhost

I was just going to bitch about yet another f—ing Disney princess braid, but I suppose the hair is passable. The colour (is dishwater a colour?) of the dress is not. The dress should be periwinkle. Her face is beautiful, but monochromatic.

    • marlie

This isn’t a Disney Princess Braid, though. I don’t mind the sideswept hair as much as the rest of the bitter kittens do, as long as it’s done well and works with the look. Here, it seems like it goes.

      • WaterGhost

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. The picture on the main site shows the back of her head. With the blond lock thrown over her shoulder, it does look from the back like an Elsa braid. When I got the view from the front, I realized I had been duped. I give it a pass, but I feel slightly cheap.

      • MilaXX

Between the color of the dress and the hair/makeup she looks like she’s in Elza from frozen drag.

        • marlie

        • WaterGhost

Her and Blake Lively. I do not need to see grown women in Disney Princess crap. It’s bad enough in four-year-olds.

        • Alicia

I wonder if she and Nicole got together to discuss, when Naomi was advising her on how to deal with a laughable biopic?

          • alyce1213

There was actually an article on Time dot com debating which biopic was the worse trainwreck. Grace of Monaco won.
At least they have each other for consolation.

  • Danielle

    Look at dat booty

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

With that necklace, she might as well be wearing a hospital exam gown. Ain’t nobody gonna remember it.

  • LeelaST

The necklace. Makes up for everything else.

    • FibonacciSequins

      It is a great necklace.

    • Alyssa

She wore a nearly-identical one (also by Bulgari) back in February…she must like the backwards-looking snake necklaces. Not that I blame her…it’s beautiful.

  • Glam Dixie

I like this but I would like it so much more if the blue wasn’t so dingy looking.

  • demidaemon

I don’t care if it’s Cannes; this is a lot ob boobs and jewels for a children’s movie premiere.

  • Eollica

Elsa from Frozen goes to holywood

  • Imasewsure

Head to toe hideous awful… actually maybe her head looked good… that dress was so ugly, I didn’t notice (and I’m not going back up there to look at it a second time). YUCK

  • Qitkat

The droopy sleeve makes me twitchy from the front, but the look is gorgeous from the back, including the sparkle snake. Yes this is me liking Marchesa. [slight shudder]

  • ashtangajunkie

Blah blah Marchesa, but helllllloooooo necklace. That is spectacular bling.

  • ojosazules

Love the necklace. The bodice seems crusty instead of embellished.

  • MilaXX

Love the necklace, but the bodice on the dress looks a sharp wind away from a wardrobe malfunction. Also can we stop with the Katniss/Elza from frozen side braids? They look kind of silly on grown women.

  • NurseEllen

She, and the dress, look equally washed out. For Marchesa, it’s not an awful design, although I agree with everyone who has taken exception to the right shoulder droop. Holy Karats, Batman–that necklace!

  • Yoshio

I’m sorry, I can’t see anything but that necklace. Damn!

  • golden_valley

Costume from some cheesy sci fi movie…queen of some planet or other.

  • aahlife

interesting, from the back the impression is sexy and a woman in her prime – the front of the dress — despite the efforts to look sexy with faux falling strap and décolletage, looks matronly and add years.

  • JynxTheCat

hair and boob go to the same salon?

  • bluefish

I’m a sucker for silk chiffon. Bet this was killer in the flesh. And the hair do is obviously all about showing off Cleopatra’s necklace there. She looks lovely but a bit of lipstick would have helped. And her husband, woefully, is missing. Love that little clutch.

  • PeaceBang

    Ladystar realness.

  • Gatto Nero

I read “Marchesa” and broke out in a rash.
Then I saw the dress. Drooping chiffon and dripping geegaws.
    Poor Naomi.

  • berkeleygirl

I can’t help but feel infinite gratitude that, unlike her best friend Nicole, Naomi never fucked with her face. This gown would look better on Kidman but, overall, I’ll take Watts, simply because her face is so lovely (though I’d have liked a slightly deeper, if not brighter lip color).

  • Jessy_N

Dunno…all the details of this getup are fighting eachother

  • SylviaFowler

Cartoons do not belong at Cannes under any circumstance.

  • LadyVimes

That right arm strap is bothering me. The rest of it is interesting, and different, which is nice. Love the necklace.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Diaphanous! I do like the whole look better from the back, her ass looks fabulous in that dress. I wish the blue was a little more saturated and something on her face needs to be bolder. Covet that necklace, I think I’ve see her wear it before.

  • Presumptuous Insect

  • nannypoo

This is a dress for a goddess, but not in a good way. I hate it.

  • ktr33

Nice caboose! otherwise, color is dingy, and dress is more suited to an older, more regal woman. I’m thinking Miss Mirren.

  • Bert Keeter

    Sloppy gown…. Nice rock!

    • CPK1

Marchesa always looks sloppy to me. Held together by pins, glue and Harvey Weinstein’s bank account

  • SorayaS

I feel like someone else has worn this before, and better. The hair is awful. Everything else is objectively nice but it just doesn’t seem to be working for her.

  • sleah_in_norcal

hi, i’m naomi. my dress is falling off.

  • Clash D

The Best hair and makeup I’ve seen her in lately but god that shoulder strap is annoying.

    Love the necklace.

  • decormaven

Swoopy folds of a fugly shade of fabric do not bring the drama. Necklace should have been paired with a dress with some color to set off the bling.

  • Jaeda Laurez

i’m tired of these hairstyles that only look good from a specific angle. Can we get some 360 styling? The dress is interesting- i’d like it a lot more, and appreciate the back jewelry, if it were in another color. The grey/silver is really blah.

  • MandyM

Am I the only one who thinks this is too much dress for a cartoon movie premier?

  • E. D.

Great, but that necklace doesn’t work – clashes with the rest of the metallic on the dress.

  • Alexis Wenceslao

  • VicD

Seems a bit much for a children’s movie

  • Terri Terri

Wow, that is one complicated look.

  • ThaliaMenninger

So unflattering. When a dress makes Naomi Watts look lumpy, saggy and unbalanced, there is no hope for that dress.

  • Captain_Awkward

She looks beautiful but seriously uncomfortable. Right Boob is about to make a break for it.

  • Boop

I love this. Even the droopy sleeve. I think it flows beautifully, and has that lovely ethereal structure of a Grecian classic sculpture or work of art . Big win. Gorgeous.

  • RoseJB

The waist seems to be sitting too high. It almost looks like a maternity gown. Actually, this would make a frickin’ gorgeous maternity gown – even with the drooping sleeve.

  • alyce1213

I object to the droopy strap and the dull color (which probably looks much better in person, in daylight), but it’s not bad. Somebody should have steamed her ass before she stepped on the carpet.

  • MK03

Love the dress, hate the hair.

  • boweryboy

I love the necklace, but it doesn’t go with this greywater my-cups-overfloweth monstrosity. I like the idea of the dress but not the dress – which is usually the case for me with Marchesa.

The hair is hot mess and I wish she put on just a hint of make-up.

  • Chuck Barthelme

If I were having a dream where she walked into my bedroom to sleep with me, this would be the perfect dress. Alas, not really great on her for the red carpet.

  • Lex

I generally hate Marchesa but this is a restrained lovely gown… the color is just horrible for Naomi Watts. A fair-skinned brunette with blue eyes would make this dress sing. Naomi’s face is faded out by it, and the lack of a strong lip color is not helping her here. Also, hate the necklace- i just think it’s wrong for this dress. Too harsh maybe?

  • israel8491

    *rolls up sleeves*
Ok, hair and makeup are stunning. Dress is way too complicated for its own good. Either go with the swoop or with the bling, but attempting both along with the weird off the shoulder sleeve just isn’t working. Color is lovely though. Necklace looks awkward and weird from the front but LOVING it from behind.

    • Glammie

Yep, I saw the behind shot and thought it would be great and then turn-around fug. Typical Marchesa wayyy too much going on. Oh well, maybe Naomi’s trying to please Harvey Weinstein by wearing his wife’s stuff.

This whole look is only meant to be seen from the back.

  • unbornfawn

I desperately want to hoist up the right side of her dress. A lot of effort went into this and it is mostly beautiful.

  • CKMia

Statement hair, statement necklace, statement dress = no statement at all.

  • Zeee

All I can see is that necklace. I’m not sure anything else exists on the planet. That thing would look FAB on my weekly trip to Costco!!

  • MannahattaMamma

that droopy sleeve thing brings out every ounce of my latent OCD. All I can think is “pick up your sleeve pick up your sleeve pick up your SLEEVE!”

  • Chevalle

Queen Elsa attends the How to Train Your Dragon 2 Premier, because apparently giant abominable snowmen don’t make the best pets.

  • Emily James-Garraway

I have the urge to walk up to her and slap some carmine lipstick across her face right now. This look is aging her by years. The train and hemline are distinctly sloppy as well. I wish it could have been a gold column dress. Oh, and lose the lifeless strap. Are stylists these days all vindictive saboteurs?
I can’t believe I liked this dress when it was on the runway model. Maybe it was just less repulsive compared to Marchesa’s other abominations. Perhaps Naomi and I were of the same mind. On closer inspection and on a more natural figure, I’m disappointed with myself for liking it.

  • ScarlettHarlot

I don’t like a single thing going on here…except for that necklace! Must have!

  • Danielle

Am I wrong in thinking this is very similar to what Shelly O just wore? I’m not a fan of the droopy sleeve… thing and she needs some serious color on her face, but that bling is to die for.

  • Kitty Lixit

It’s no easy feat to make Marquesa look basic.
How is this woman a movie star again?

  • V No Privacy

hate the makeup. would do terrible, awful, immoral things for a chance to wear the necklace.
