Well at least she has subway fare with her at all times.

      • FibonacciSequins

My dad used to call it “mad money”, but he never told us to glue it to our clothes.

        • kimmeister

Nina Garcia lists mad money as one of the 100 things a chic woman absolutely must have!

          • FibonacciSequins

Ha, my dad would have agreed with her!

            • 3boysful

And my sweet Nana–she would always press a one or a five into my hand and call it that.

          • Rhonda Shore

i remember a “loose” cousin explaining “mad money” to me when i was a young girl and i was all intrigued…Mad money aside, i really like this dress on Liv!

      • Kent Roby

My first (similar) thought was “Hey, Lady; can you spare some change?”

      • lilazander

OMG, I laughed so hard I peed in my pants.

    • Glam Dixie

Girl, that is SO not your dress. Get it off, get it off, get it off!! That’s not your hair style either, you’re too pretty for this.

      • Fuchsiaforever

        This is NO ONES dress!

        • Bethany Fairbrother

It’s a horrible dress, even on the model.

          • Fuchsiaforever

            Amen sista!

          • Fuchsiaforever

Well, it could be a Game of Thrones theme Halloween dress perhaps…

        • L’Anne

It deserves a school yard double dutch chant:
          Its ugly
          Its ugly
          My mama said its ugly.
          U G L Y
          It ain’t got no alibi.
          Its ugly.
          WHAT! I said its ugly.

    • thecitysleeps

I think this is kind of cute except the proportions are a bit off. But I love D&G’s berserk Mediterranean influences (as a fellow Mediterranean). The earrings are a bit much though.

      • NBG

You nailed it. I think this could have worked with right changes to the sleeve and bodice.

      • Deb Oswald

It looks like she’s an adult in a little girls dress – the whole thing look just too short through the torso somehow.

      • Trent

I’m still pissed at D&G for sticking Kate Upton in that Bordello Widow dress at the Met Gala. This is nearly as awful, IMO (although for some reason I can see Megan Draper wearing it to a funeral).

      • tereliz

Yeah, she’s too tall and that dress is probably a size ten, but the skirt and bodice both are just as short as on a size 2.

Sadly, she probably purchased this dress with her own monies since she’s not a standard size and there’s not enough extra hem to lengthen it. Which still wouldn’t have helped with the fit in the bust. Sucks not being a sample size in LA.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Livvie, take some style tips from your grandmother Galadriel. That ain’t your look.

      • charlotte

        …says Eowyn.

    • Claire

At the very least this is one more dress to include in our class action lawsuit against black lace. That dress would be perfectly cute without it.

      • holla

exactly, the lace makes it too much dress for her.

    • sienna elm

Oh wait – was that not the question??

    • Aidan B

Ooh, girl. Step away from the D&G and into something softer. Channel your inner Arwen, we know she’s there!

    • Capt. Renault

With my luck, count on me to be stuck behind her at the airport’s metal detector.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I think only Gladiator sandals work… the pumps don’t really. She looks awkward.
Why do so many ladies featured lately look like they’ve been crying??

    • Sarah

Was it Coco Chanel that said “Either lace, burlap, OR giant coins, darling, not all three”?

      • smayper

      • Noah

Laughing WAY too hard at my desk right now.

      • demidaemon

I believe she said, “Take one thing off before you leave the house.” Well, I think we all know what Liv should take off.

        • Sarah

          Whole dress :)

    • Imasewsure

Why wear a mini and then make it so damn heavy looking? Oh good…. they added lace too… yuck

    • Mrs. Julien

Girl That Is Not Your Nobody’s Dress

      • lamamu

While I mostly agree with you, I’m thinking Marisa Tomei could carry off this dress.

      • demidaemon

I don’t think it’s a FMO dress, but it clearly needs a specific type of girl who is not Liv.

        • tereliz

GWBTNYD (girl with boobs, that’s not your dress)

          • demidaemon

    • FibonacciSequins

That’s one way to carry your spare change.

    • madge

she is ridiculously beautiful, but that dress is HEINOUS

      • BayTampaBay

NO! that dress is DOUBLE-HEINOUS FUGLY!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

This is aging Liv-black lace and too many embellishments. This looks like someone went on a bender in Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.

    • Karen Belgrad

Last week we had the Project Runway contest who go “Flying Nun” in the ‘Inspired By TV’ challenge. This week… Game of Thrones.

    • Tanya Wade

The Medici go-go party of your dreams, all in one dress!

    • AceOn6

Another freakin 70s dress. Note to D&G, Liv is 36, she might not have seen this little number hiding in the back of the closet or in the attic at home, but that doesn’t make it fresh.

    • alyce1213

Well, D&G may have to serve time in the clink for tax evasion, but it should be for black lace offenses like this (among others).

    • kimmeister

Yikes, the volume of those sleeves is not working at all, at least not on so fair-skinned a person. I literally thought the sleeves had a cape at first glance before I realized it was just the excess fabric not being highlighted by pale skin underneath.

    • @Biting Panda

Liv and Dolce should totally work. But this is hella broken.

      • BLauD

I got excited by the title, but was sorely disappointed in the execution.

    • Melanie

Gramma’s lace doily plus Caesar’s ‘come hither’ toga.

    • Kbear

To be worn at Caesars Palace in Vegas

    • ojosazules

Why don’t they hate black lace yet? Why are we different from them in that way?

      • demidaemon

        It’s called taste.

    • Jessica Freeman

It’s spring, right? I’m sweating just looking at her. I am not a fan of the coins. She looks like some sort of souvenir.

    • Jaeda Laurez

She looks frumpy, and the proportions are wrong on her.

    • Stacey Summerville

Hate the dress, love her legs.

    • Alyssa

This dress is not very flattering to her figure…which we know she has a good one! It looks fun on the model, and frumpy on Liv.

    • EveEve

Why are D&G allowing this kind of garment to go out under the D&B label? This is Lazy Designing. This is Lack of Originality 101. This is a failure of each part of the design shop to communicate with each other in a way that leads to the creation of a coherent, beautiful and flattering garment. Cut, color, fabric, embellishment . . . all need to work together, and this is Example A of what not to do.

    • RedRaven617

    • BLauD

I mean, really, how much change does one girl need on her at any given time??

    • luludexter

Aside from the fact that this is not flattering on her (the waist makes her look very thick there) — the dress is bad, overly designed. Coins on a black dress? okay… lace on a black dress? okay…. both on any dress? uh, no. and with the earrings (which I don’t mind on their own) it’s just too much and not of a good thing…

    • artgirl9

      Gypsy funeral attire

    • Amy Ignatow

      Mmmmm, gelt.

    • ChelseaNH

Italian widow advertising her suitability for remarriage before the mourning period ends.

    • GillianHolroyd

It’s too shortwaisted for her. Embiggening.

      Like the earrings though.

      • Kitten Mittons

        What a wonderfully cromulent word.

Definitely too short-waisted, and it’s obliterating all her gorgeous curves. She’s just a big black square of fabric with legs and a face.

    • kmk05

I wish she had done something else with her hair. This really isn’t flattering the shape of her face, and she has a gorgeous face.

    • Constant Reader

I’m old enough to remember the 80s trend of Roman coins on everything. Time has not made the idea less tacky.

    • decormaven

Not her look, not by a long shot. Makes her look much older than her years. Cash those coins in for a more flattering look.

    • ceceliadid

Halloween costume for sexy mother of the dead Pirate Roberts..

      • snarkykitten

        Dead or Dread?

        • ceceliadid

          Dead and Dread.

    • Cee Layton

She is the real Megan Draper for this generation. Love her! Too much dress for her tho.

    • Laura Renee

Her face seems underdone with the garishness of that dress and jewelry.

    • Alyssa_T_Robot

oh wow. i must be the only person that kinda likes this on her :-/

    • stellamaris73

      I am Spartacus!

    • KT

    • kategs

She is so very lovely and this dress does nothing to enhance that.

    • ashtangajunkie

Is this the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen? I can’t think of an uglier one at the moment. Too bad it’s on such a lovely person.

    • Jeremy Thomas Porta

Arwen is looking pretty beat-down these days.

    • titaness25

Honest question: Is the D&G look fashionable old-school Italian grandma? Because that’s what I’m getting.

    • Tricia Rose

Get rid of the lace. Stop bedazzling with coins. Perk up the makeup. Perfection.

    • MinAgain

      Fashion fail.

    • teensmom99

I’m in the BK minority–I love this look. I saw it and I thought “Nothing like a model who is also rock n roll.”

      • Shawn EH

Very sixties, like something Megan Draper will wear next week. Needs something a little wilder with the hair.

        • teensmom99

I am a Megan D fan . . .And I do love the dress on Liv. Maybe she is channeling her mom in full groupie mode.

    • Wink

Only thing missing is a veil.

    • Tracy_Flick

Did she raid Julia Roberts’ closet?

    • Miss wks

oh well. If she loses her clutch at least she has cab fare home…

    • Gatto Nero

She can handle a dramatic look — and the makeup and earrings are great — but this dress isn’t doing it.
The lace *under* the short-sleeved overlay (what?), the blocky bodice, the huge coins — just no.

    • snarkalicious

If my 10 year-old son (who is obsessed with pirate doubloons and gladiators and such) were to design a dress for me, this is what it would look like.

    • lahallita

Dig the bottom half, top half, not so much. The lace gets too tricky and the proportions look a little goofy.

    • Lisalady161

Frankendress. And I hate to say it because I’ve had a lady crush on her for years, but she’s aging like her dad. And that is not a compliment.

    • Lori

This whole D&G collection was just weird, this dress being a prime example. Those sleeves—Whut? Why? Whut? Liv deserves better than this.

    • another_laura

You know, I think if it weren’t black but some rich color, I think I would love this. The black is very DG but not very Liv.

    • MilaXX

Remove the lace sleeves and this would work a lot better.

      • sleah_in_norcal

removing the coins would be a good start…but then what do you have left? something from the close-out sale at mervyns.

        • MilaXX

I don’t mind the coins. I just dislike the lace sleeves.

    • Danielle

You mean this isn’t Versace?! Shocked.

      • demidaemon

        I sense sarcasm.

        • Danielle

I actually really did think it was Versace before I read the title and captions. It looks like a Ver-sayce.

    • enuma

Between the coins and the sleeves, that dress has a serious case of Home Economics Projectitis.

    • Fuchsiaforever

Meh…it would be awesome if those coins where actually golden wrapped chocolate!

      • Alicia

YES – that was exactly my thought “Oh how thoughtful, snacks!”

        • Fuchsiaforever

    • 3boysful

For some reason, I see the Divine Miss M in this. Not young Liv.

    • smayper

Hanukah gelt. I hope those coins detach from the dress and contain chocolate, because it would at least redeem the horror slightly.

      • sleah_in_norcal

and would go along with the theme of adding unwanted pounds to her look…

    • NeenaJ

That lace at the throat looks like a hair shirt.

    • demidaemon

That dress is kind of f-ed up looking on her. I am going to say, GTNYD.

      • MaggieMae

        I was going for FMO

        • demidaemon

I don’t think it’s FMO, but it is very specific in who can wear it successfully. Obviously, not Liv.

    • Judih1

she looks like a gypsy hooker

    • sleah_in_norcal

those horrible horizontal lines of huge honking coins add virtual pounds to her long lovely look. nice alliteration there, sleah. looks like they add actual pounds too, like an unattractive belly dancing belt.

      • Mr. J.

Totally agree. Unattractive is the word.

    • Bert Keeter

      An old gypsy hooker!

    • Shelby

This is so sad (I mean, even more than just the sad fabric and weird detailing). Liv Tyler is so pretty, and tends towards such an interesting style. It bums me out that the first time she’s featured in awhile, it’s in one of the weird D and G dresses.

    • marlie

It’s… ok, I guess. Though the earrings were a step too far.

    • aquamarine17

no, and no to the earrings as well. if one were to have a dress in that shape, in another color, for example, and with no lace involved, i think it would only work with the type of sandals the model is wearing.

    • frannyprof

It’s nice to see her on the RC. Hate the dress, but like seeing her.

    • ThaliaMenninger

      That’s unfortunate.

    • suzq

My husband’s Aunt Thetis had the same dress. She was chain-smoking, middle aged Greek woman at the time….

    • FridaStaire

Hey, Liv and Eva actually look a bit alike – but Eva’s my girl. And this outfit is hell.

    • Trickytrisha

Just because a famous design house lends you a dress doesn’t mean you should wear it. Especially one where Signori D and G emptied out their spare pocket change before taking that “vacation”.

    • Pterodactyl111

    • LadyVimes

I feel like this dress is prettier in person than it is in photographs. The tucking of the black lace around the shoulders is lost in most of these.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Megan Draper gets her day in Rome. I like the idea but the proportions would be a thousand times better without the lace portion of the sleeves, and the coins look cheap and plastick-y. Too costumey, and the earrings are way too much with this dress, though they’d be great with a gown.

      It all had such promise.

    • quiltrx

They tricked you, didn’t they Liv? What a shapeless sack with too many gimmicks. You’re gorgeous, though.

    • LambeeBaby

She should go home and “change” her clothes.

    • cocohall

Mommy, Mommy! Can we go to the arcade with Auntie Liv? She said we can play the games until her coins are all gone!

    • formerlyAnon

I hate that dress, but I guess she’s doing with it what she can.

    • Ali2044

      She’s channelling Megan Draper hardcore
