  • Nice display of watch, interesting way of playing with textures of grey, good hems. And he’s pretty.

    • Rhonda Shore

      oh yes he is!

  • Fanny_Trollope

With a crisp white shirt, I would have been all over this. Somehow, the stripes are not doing it for me.

    • Kent Roby

I’d like it with a solid pastel shirt as well, would give it a bit more “life”.

    • uprightcitizen

The attempt at pattern mixing is a nice idea, but since his shirt front and tie aren’t laying flat, it all went kind of wonky. Solid pastel shirt (lavender, perhaps?) and a striped tie would have been a better way to mix patterns, IMHO. The suit fits great, though, and he is awful purty.

    • duneboi

A steel blue shirt would work for me – it would play up his blue eyes. And maybe a small-patterned dotted darker blue-tone tie shot with a silver sheen might work best. This is from experience – these color combinations with a grey suit form the basis of several looks of my work wardrobe.

  • Jen

I love plaid, but I’m not sure I love this plaid… I certainly approve of this measure of male-star effort however 🙂

  • Dharmabum8

DOES THIS MEAN CyCLOPS IS BACK?! Also, nice suit.

    • FunButNutz

There are rumors that two cast members have been kept private because their presence might betray the plotline. Guesses have been Cyclops and Jean Grey

      • Sarah

Oh, man. I hope you’re right. The cast list on IMDB doesn’t have either of them, but it would be totally cool if that’s why.

  • Nancer

Love that he put in the effort to do something so polished and fashion forward! Most boy-stars don’t put this level of effort into their appearances. It’s nice!

  • decormaven

Great suit. It would really sing for me if he were clean-shaven.

  • Anapestic

I want to be him AND do him.

  • @Biting Panda

I hate a plaid suit. There I said it. Disown me, if you must.

    • demidaemon

I’m not going to disown you, but you might have to sit in time out for three minutes. 🙂

    • Kent Roby

I will try to keep our uncles from throwing things at you for such blasphemy!

  • sienna elm

    Love the suit too.

  • hughman

Your jacket lapel is a weird place to put your old gum.

    • smayper

      coffee snort!!

  • mjude

I feel like the plaid is yelling.

    • Strangely, this is very old school Scott Summers…if you google “scott summers plaid”, the second photo (after a shirtless Cyclops encountering a dinosaur), PLAID.

  • I thought Cyclops wasn’t in this one…are they seriously just having him there because he used to be in the franchise? (DOUCHERY.)

    • Sarah

According to IMDB, he is nowhere in the cast. You are right, that is some douchery.

      • And worse, I’m going to have to sit through Alex Summers angst. Eff my Fan Girl Life.

    • Dandesun

      Maybe it’s a secret? (hopes)

Of all the myriad issues I had with X-Men Last Stand (and, oh, they were legion) killing Scott off at the beginning ranks at the top… that and utterly failing to make a woman who can turn into a fiery raptor look cool.

  • demidaemon

Probably the best dressed male of the bunch.

  • MilaXX

MMmmm, I’m all for pattern mixing, but it’s still monochrome and I;m not sure these patterns really work together.

  • Jessica Freeman

No need to wear all the patterns at once.

  • Chuck Barthelme

My personal rule is if I’m wearing a patterned suit/pants, I go with a solid shirt. He could have had some more fun with a contrasting tie color or pattern, or both. The stripes on the shirt I find annoying though. It’s just too much. I love plaids and polka dots, so I might have gone for a pink polka dot tie if I were him. He could totally pull it off. The suit is impressively well fit, which earns big points from me though.

  • PinkyAndNoBrain

Lovely suit, but for a moment I thought I was looking at a watermark . . . no idea why, but the pattern just creates that illusion unless I look carefully.

  • Kitten Mittons

I want to like this a lot. But I don’t.

It’s all too shiny, too wrinkly, too fussy, too sloppy, too plaid-y, too scruffy, and too stripe-y all at the same time.

Also, just because color isn’t trendy right now doesn’t not give you the right to throw a metric ton of patterns at your body to make up for boring grey-ness. Keep the dark patterned tie and lose the striped shirt.

    • lunchcoma

Yeah, I think that there are a lot of nice pieces here – including Marsen himself – but it just doesn’t work when you throw it all together.

      • Kitten Mittons

I know. I love a plaid suit, but I’m just not feeling this one with all the other stuff going on.

He is pretty cute, though. He’s not really my type, but I wouldn’t kick him out of bed.

  • Noah

    Too many patterns.

  • JauntyJohn

Oh man…. oh man oh man oh man… James, sweetie, honey, you were thisclose to sensational.
    Loved you in “Hairspray!”

  • alyce1213

Props to James for having the suit perfectly tailored. But even though the colors are subdued, this is so loud. If the plaid were tiny — really, really tiny — I might like it, I dunno, maybe not. Plaids and checks are tricky. I wish he’d shaved.

  • PastryGoddess

wait one second….Is that a VELVET tie?!?

Someone answer me, the fate of mankind depends on it

    • Jessica Freeman

I’m seeing a satin with a print? It’s very hard to tell.

    • Sarah

I believe it’s jacquard. It is OKAY. Breathe into a paper bag!

    • FibonacciSequins

It’s silk with some kind of small pattern. But in looking closely at the tie, I noticed his lapel and now I have a question – is that a black flower pin?

      • PastryGoddess

If it is…Is he still hot?

        • FibonacciSequins

  • Wink

The tie is boring; could have injected some color there. But, if you’re gonna wear a grey suit to a premiere, this is the way to do it!

  • ChiKat67

That same tie but in lavender or blush would have sold this.

    • Kent Roby

Or keep the tie, change the shirt for a light color.

    • MilaXX

I like the tie change, but I still think the striped shirt doesn’t work.

  • Jackie4g

Why aren’t the jacket hip pocket flaps matched properly? Surely there was enough fabric?

    • makeityourself

I thought that was odd too. Because otherwise this is an absolutely MASTERFUL job of matching that plaid, both vertically and horizontally. The thought of cutting those pieces properly gives me the willies.

It’s unfortunate that the plaid echoes the squares on the background.

  • Imasewsure

Jacket yes… pants no… or maybe different guy to rock the whole look… but props for trying (no props for that shirt/tie combo though)

  • wisenhar

It’s a glorious suit and he is a gorgeous man, but I just don’t think the two go together, even if he did change out the shirt for a solid white (which I think it really needs). I’d love to see this on Patrick Stewart.

  • ashtangajunkie

    His face makes me happy.

  • Whoa.. it just got really hot in here.. 🙂

  • TropiCarla

OK – I had to get that out of my system. I actually love the grey plaid, but something is off with the cut and fit of the shoulders and chest. Hate that shirt and tie with the suit. He should invite me over to pick out something different.

  • Violentcello

    I swoon.

Not sure if that’s because of the killer smile or the stripes are giving me vertigo, but there ya go.

  • boweryboy

I would have picked a different tie – one with color. I am, however, loving the stripes and plaid pattern mixing

  • Mr. J.

    Eyes, eyes….nothing else matters.

  • LeelaST

The shirt looks a little too small, causing the tie/collar to pull/sag; not completely sold on the stripes, maybe a pin-stripe instead? Other than, perfection. (I’m overlooking the facial hair, apparently something I have to put up with until men regain their senses.)

  • Truthiness2U

The shirt looks a bit sloppy at the top, somehow. Like his tie is a bit unloosened, and the shirt is as well. But minor quibbles, I like the whole thing. The fit of the suit is great to me, and well done on the hem of the pants. Of course I love me not only plaid, but mixing of patterns, so that may be my personal bias speaking here.

  • BlairBear

handsome man in a great suit. Not loving the shirt he picked. With such a bold suit i would have gone with a solid shirt

  • Danielle

  • BobStPaul

Very nicely done. But why is it that no one seems to tighten their tie knot anymore?

  • unbornfawn

Love the suit. the shirt and tie and looking frumpy and he should haver shaved.

  • paginatrix

Lord knows I loves me a plaid suit. But boy, could he ever use a shave and a blue shirt.

  • 25or6to4

    Well, hello there.

  • LadyVimes

There’s something I don’t like about this. I think it’s the shirt, but it could also be the tie color.
He’s pretty though, and A for effort.

  • marlie

I really like the suit, but I’m not a fan of the shirt and tie. He screwed up with the styling.

  • JP

Props for taking a risk. Love the suit, not sure the striped shirt works, but he still looks damn good.

  • Columbinia

It’s the Edward VIII Revival school of fashion!

  • formerlyAnon

I am confused. I want to like, but somehow either the shirt or the suit needs to be just a smidge more subdued for it to work for me. I think.

Also, is that a sculpey clay flower some child of his acquaintance made on his lapel, or is he faking everyone out with a Scarlet Pimpernel “hide in plain sight” video camera? So he can remember who he talked to and what they said? Is he part of a secret spy ring? Or is mourning jewelry for men going to be a thing?

I wouldn’t be sad if he shaved to go with such a carefully chosen suit.

  • quiltrx

The striped shirt and something about its collar are screaming “pajama top” to me. Ick.

    • P M

It’s lying flat, not standing up. Wait, that sounded wrong.

LOVE that suit, really gorgeous. That shirt & tie combo with it? Not so much…….. Great shoes though.

  • It’s a pity, because the pieces are fab but they don’t go together. Love his boutonnière though.

  • MK03

    Mmm. Yes.

  • P M

There’s something very odd going on with the top of his moustache.

  • lilibetp

And after seeing the photos of Fassbender in the grey suit, I’m very appreciative of Marsden’s supportive underwear.

  • Gatto Nero

Mixing patterns is fine, but it’s all about scale. This striped shirt does not work with that plaid suit.

  • FridaStaire

    Love it all!

  • gloriana232

Black lapel rose? He looks like he’s going to a cheery funeral. HOW DO YOU WRINKLE A TIE?

  • Roger A. Sneed

Is it me, or are those pants a tad snug? Also, James Marsden is almost everything, but that suit is causing me visual distress.

  • Molly

I love the suit! The shirt is COMPLETELY wrong for it, though. So close!

  • MaggieMae

That’s a lot of pattern for a suit. Can we change it to black pants? And change the shirt and tie. That’s all.

  • H2olovngrl

I love that he takes risks when he could just coast on his pretty face. He looks dashing!

  • Shawn EH

Did the watch company pay for everything? Wait, does this mean Cyclops is alive in the new film?

    • Brent Wolgamott

he is — apparently the “future” part is before X3. Hell, Jean Grey may even be alive.

      • Shawn EH

        I’ll take it!

  • caroline

I just can’t get on board with a black tie unless it’s paired with a tuxedo.

  • Lanus

I’m so old that I read the title, pictured James Marsters, and then got disappointed when it was this (admittedly pretty) child.

    • ElevenSeventeen

I did exactly the same! I’m so glad it’s not just me!

  • Mothra

I’m liking the whole look EXCEPT, how about a nice clean face? Would that be so hard? everything else so so crisp and then it looks like you just rolled out of bed. On your face.

  • steve

That is just a really horrible suit.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    He’s no Matt Bomer.

  • macwell

    That. Is Not. Your Suit.

  • Fred Vaughn

The loudness of the suit fucks up so much good intention here. At least it’s tailored right for him.

  • Daisy77

    More Spurr please. Suit master.
