not loving the pointy points. hate the shoes.

  • Danielle

The stripper shoes kill an otherwise stunning look.

    • Rhonda Shore

They really do. I usually love everything about Fan BingBing but these shoes suck. I also prefer a stronger lip — red — on her.

      • AlisonHendryx

totes agree on the lips. it makes her teeth and skin look sallow

        • Tracy M

She wears that lip color all the time. A kind makeup artist needs to let her know it’s not working.

      • Mrs. C

        Yes. Exactly.

      • WaterGhost

I can tolerate the shoes – they are cartoonish and stylized, but kind of go with everything else – but I am sick of seeing orange lip. She looks great, otherwise.

    • JP

Like Lupita, she can’t pick the right shoe?

  • Mrs. Julien

That may be the worst case of shooves I’ve seen in quite some time.

    • sugarkane105

Something about the combination of the shooves and the mullet hem are making her look like a half-human, half-horse creature from Narnia.

      • But 100% AMAZING!!

        • sugarkane105

The most fabulous faun of the Wardrobe.

      • Carleenml

speaking of mullet hems…I work on a college campus and I’m sorry young co-eds, but your mullet hem dresses look even more ridiculous than when you mistake tights for pants. They are the phoniest looking dresses. Totally try-too-hard.

        • Jacob Bowen

AMEN! I tell my college student sister NOT to buy them, but she insists they are cute and in style…helpless.

      • SugarSnap108

It does have a centaur vibe.

    • R.A.

The word “shooves” makes me snort.

    • oldscrumby

But without them the dress would be literally dragging the ground…

      • BackseatDriver

Yeah, I’m betting that that gown would have cost 500+ to hem, I’d have opted for towering heels as well.

        • Yuju Ti

This reminds me of the comment I heard from a local bridal shop lady who were trying to convince my friend not to shop in David’s bridal:” They won’t hem for you. They will just tell you to wear supper high heels to make it work! They don’t care!” We still went to David’s bridal afterward, and we actually heard one of their workers told the girl next to us “Oh you’ll be fine! Just get a pair of really high heels and the hem will not be an issue anymore!” LOL!

    • Betsy

“Shooves”! Snorted!! And I’m at the office.

    • SugarSnap108

“Shooves” is an amazing and accurate word for this particular style of footwear.

  • MoHub

I hate mullet hems and platform shoes with a passion, but somehow she’s making this work.

Obviously because she is Fan Bingbing.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s that old Fan BingBing magic at work.

      • MoHub

That old Fan BingBing magic’s got me in its spell …

        • bitchybitchybitchy

That BingBing magic that we know so well….

          • MoHub

Round and round it goes …

  • Justine

It feels a little retro / space age / music video costume-y. She is stunning. The dress could use less hair and shoes.

  • Tricia Rose

Too costume-y for me. Although, I do love it overall… its a little too… on the nose,

  • amf0001

she’s a little too tiny for it, the breast points ride a little high, it would be better on a taller, slightly bigger boned woman.

  • Katherine Anthony

Love the dress, hate the shoes, can take or leave the hair

  • MW

I can’t help but laugh at the fact that the shadows in the first picture make it look like she’s wearing leggings.

    • Ginmaru

      Spanx, the leggings edition.:-) jk

    • Vtg Fashion Library

I scrolled, just to see if she actually WAS wearing leggings. Oh, the humanity!

  • alyce1213

A very pretty, somewhat restrained Zac Posen gown, beautiful fabric and construction.
I love her 1930s Shanghai poster hair. The shoes are passé now, time to be put away for good.
I like that the model has sheer black hose and pumps, it looks more finished and formal.

    • RL McGruder

“I love her 1930s Shanghai poster hair”

      So much this!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Hmm… disappointed. She’s usually the Queen of “nailing it” – always above reproach because she’s got the perfect styling to go with the dress. But this time the hair and the shoes both seem like over-kill.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Fan, darling. Be a dear and send that dress to Dita, OK?

    • MilaXX

I think Dita would have the same problem. They are both too short for the dress. In fact, this may be a FMO dress.

      • Carleenml

and it’s making me a little teary-eyed after the perfection in plumage.

      • In_Stitches

I completely agree. That’s why she had to pull out the ludicrous platforms which helped mitigate the problem, but not solve it entirely.

    • Andrew Schroeder

Dita actually did wear this dress (with a slightly different cup detail).

  • MilaXX

I don’t love the shoes, they are bordering on Gaga levels of drag for me. Love everything else.

  • lunchcoma

I reflexively love anything she wears, so I’ll overlook the cat ear tits and the mullet hem, but I just can’t with the shoes. They’re hideous in their own right, and they don’t work with the dress at all.

    • semirose

I think the cat ear tits work for her because she can pull off that drama but if the mullet hem hadn’t been there the shoes wouldn’t even be a problem because they’d do the job of making her tall enough to wear the dress and we wouldn’t be able to see them.

    • Ginmaru

That will be my new stripper name: “Cat Ear Tits” and her Flaming Batons!

  • Anapestic

I like it overall, especially for her. Only thing: the bodice looks much better from the front, and the skirt looks much better from the side.

    • kimmeister

Indeed, the side view reveals that the bodice is too tight.

  • Synnae

Love the dress and the retro hair styling – but those shoes? Yes, I understand the dress would be hitting the floor if she didn’t wear them ruining the whole look but why didn’t Zac just alter it to fit her not model height and thus allowing her another WERQ?

  • Hysterectomypants

Apparently I love everything Zac Posen now, because this looks gorgeous to me. But seriously…those shoes. I hate them so, so much. And they make me wince a little, because I can practically *feel* her ankle twisting and snapping.

  • JauntyJohn

Well of course she doesn’t look bad, exactly… I think that’s likely an impossibility… but I can’t say it really works for her, and honestly for me it’s about (forgive me) “vibe.”
It’s like she’s doing Doll and the dress wants Drama.
I don’t hate it… the more I look the more there is to like, but it’s not really working for me.

  • Cheryl

Love the dress and the hair. I think the shoes are ugly, but I kind of like an ugly shoe once in a while. I’m not familiar with this actor (she’s so pretty!), so off to IMDB her. If she has only been in big budget action movies it could well be why I’ve never heard of her.

    • I don’t know how many English language movies she has done.

  • Whereas the feather cape was *perfectly* superhero, this looks like Batman’s standing in front of her. And the hair is a bit much. But I guess a Chinese woman at a premiere in Beijing might have to really represent?

    • Danielle

It’s the dress Gotham deserves, but not the dress it needs right now.

    • NeenaJ

I agree. The hair is contrived and it’s killing it for me – even more than the shoes. Also, her eyeliner’s wonky with one line pointing up and the other down so, I can’t stop seeing googly eyes.

  • Jennifer Bober

I actually love the dress, It’s a good nod to her character’s costume, but oh, dear Lord, those shoes are awful!!

  • Deac82

I think that her stylist didn’t want to hem the dress and had to find the highest shoes possible to make it hit the floor just “so.”

  • Coleen

Oh, FAN. Who put you up to those ridiculous shoes? And get rid of the bangs, dear.

  • JenniferA

Serving up Vivian Leigh porcelain doll realness. In as much as a doll is real.

  • Sarah

That last photo is emphasizing for me how much I like this whole look when I can imagine it as a tea-length with some cute NON shooves.

  • nycfan

nooo on the shoes and hair is to costumey rather than 40s glam inspired, but like virtually every garment she puts on, the dress looks wonderful on her and the hair cannot undo the beautiful face …

  • Alyssa

I would love this if the hem was at the knees the whole way around (die mullet hems, die!) and with different shoes. The hair, I’m undecided on. On one hand, it’s not mermaid hair, but I’m thinking a simple chignon would have been the way to go. Great earrings.

  • Ashley Ellen Wilson

While I would normally hate the stripper heels, for once they are serving an actual purpose–the shoes are ACCENTUATING the exaggerations of the costume. She knows EXACTLY what she’s doing. She looks like the most fabulous villain ever.

    • demidaemon

Agreed. They work for this outfit. I don’t support them the majority of the time, but, like the much hated nude shoe, they still have their place and use.

  • FrauKrissie

You all are crazy. Dat hair! Good golly do I love that hair. This is atomic retro gorgeous. I don’t even mind the shoes because the peep toes make it work. LOVE

  • jkatkins

I am so over Zac Posen.

  • Laura F.

What’s up with the Betty Grable meets Bettie Page hair? That was the wrong way to go here.

  • @Biting Panda

    Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

  • Bingbing looks good, but I keep getting distracted by the model who is giving so much life with that Lauren Bacall face of hers…

  • malarson2

I’m fanning myself over all of it. She has ‘A Look’. She starts each dress/outfit having it make a statement to her and then she fills in the rest to support this statement. It’s a whole ness thing and I love every bit of it.

  • Aidan B

Well, it does remind me of a cape. But girl, that hair is NOT your friend. And what poor creature’s feet did you steal for this event?

  • quiltrx

Not loving the shoes, but that dress is MAGIC. Sometimes Posens tend to look tortured, but I like this one a lot. The texture of the fabric is great, and I’m always a sucker for a ridiculously full skirt.
And I don’t mind the hair–serving up Joan Crawford with a side of Scarlett-in-the-red-bitch-dress realness!

  • Angela

Were they not able to hem it for her so she could wear normal shoes?

  • I don’t like any part of this. Sorry.

  • MissusBee

This is a bit Blade Runner for me.

  • lamamu

    Except for the shoes, perfection.

  • Victoria Anzalone

Stunning dress. Hate the shoes, HATE the hair.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

The shoes are a big let down and like other BKs I’d like to see her throw that lipstick out, but other than that, she’s amazing.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

That hair is so Lily Tomlin, as in “This is Miss Tomlin, from the phone company. snort”

  • ThaliaMenninger

HATE the shoes. So, are we doing 1940s baked goods hair again? This one has a cannoli bang. Others features croissants or eclairs on the forehead.

  • kimmeister

The earrings are gorgeous. However, they clash with whatever the burgundy thing she has on the back of head is.

  • lilibetp

Hate the shoes. Dislike the orange lipstick. Love everything else.

  • FibonacciSequins

I don’t like the shoes, but it looks like she needed that height for the dress, so all is forgiven.

  • boweryboy

It’s a gorgeous dress, but maybe it’s not her dress if she has to resort to those shoes to give her some height. Those shoes are serving up completely uncalled for adult film star realness. Plus the addition of hose would’ve helped a great deal here. Also not loving the hair.

  • aelizabethpm

Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara hair

  • Jacob Bowen

The only explanation for this dress is “ZAC POSEN”. Mullet hem AND cat ear boobs?!?!? Did we need both? And then she added the lovely shoes to the mix. Sorry Ms. Bingbing, I’m not a Fan.

  • Pablo

Not really loving the bodice and the hair is pretty ridiculous. I don’t think this is working.

  • Shawn EH

The problem, of course, is the shoes. Fan, you’re risking the Whiteboard just by being Posened, but then with those shoes … ?

  • snarkykitten

    Not digging the Catwoman tits

    • bananamuffin

It kind of looks like a superhero costume, which seems sort of appropriate for the movie. I like it here, but unlikely to another event.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Those shoes are veering into Gaga territory,…

  • Gatto Nero

She manages to invoke the 1940s and futurism at the same time.

  • Monabel

Not up to her usual standard.

  • snarkalicious

Dita von Teese would absolutely WERQ this ensemble.

  • SugarSnap108

Logic tells me I should hate this dress, but I love it. She makes almost everything gorgeous. Except those shoes, which should not exist.

  • Mr. J.

    She’s electric and she’s bringing it….the rest is….academic.

  • TigerLaverada

Cate Blanchett and Fan Bing Bing in one day, both totally killing it. It’s a good, good day.

  • Imasewsure

It’s awe-inspiring but I must admit although I love the hair and love the dress, I don’t love them together

  • LeelaST

Love the gown, hate the hair and shoes.

  • demidaemon

She looks amazing and still slightly sci-fi, but I am not loving the pointy boobs.

  • BobStPaul

Hate, hate, hate the shoes. Otherwise, it’s a total win for me – even the retro hair.

  • love it!! but why the stripper shoes?

  • rebeemoon

    Winged boobs!

  • Truthiness2U

I gasp with love…until the shoes. As they say…needle scratch. But that’s minor to me in comparison to everything else, which I really liked.

  • Trickytrisha

Not loving the front of the hair – wish we had a back view. Yes, she’s lovely, but this isn’t her best effort. Sorta Blade Runner meets Showgirls.

  • Pterodactyl111

Oh my God, that hair is AMAZING!!!!

  • kim bunchalastnames

i don’t usually like the uneven hem thing, but this is an exception. killer dress, stripper shoes. and the hair — maybe a bit too literally retro, although i kinda like the netting.

  • Lisalady161

The hair took it to weirdsville, and the shoes took it to strippertown. Fan honey, send this back.

  • Susan Velazquez

I don’t know if I am a fan of the hair but the shoes definitely are a no-no. Come on, Fan BingBing! You have more style than this!

  • I can’t help but wonder if there are little kids hiding under the train of that skirt, employed to keep it propped up just so. (Maybe that’s why she needs the shoes, so she can be tall enough to hide them in the hem…)

  • ktr33

Intellectually, I shouldn’t like this, but I kind of LOVE it. Except for the shoes. Too Fredericks of Hollywood, especially with the short front hem. It reminds me of an edgy evil goth version of a Laura Ashley ballgown I had in 1987. Yes, you read right.

  • SewingSiren

She looks like she just walked out of a Film Noir set in the 1940’s Shanghai. Someone will definitely be murdered tonight. But she didn’t do it.

    • Tarquin

      It’s the Joanie Crawford hair!

  • Mothra

I’m getting a Katy Perry vibe here.

  • P M

Aw man, it’s an almost-there. The accessories needed to be more fun, and the face needed to go with the hair and outfit. And Fan, you need to exude a certain Je ne sais quoi to go with the dress, not give a lady-star smile.

  • TLJezebel

Only she can work that hem. Hate the hair and shoes, though.

  • Living for the Fan Bingbing red carpet X Men pole dance! I love the humor and wit she is deploying in her super villainess looks!

  • Trying too hard. And those hideous shoes? She and KK wear the same size?

  • Corsetmaker

Love the dress, love Posen. The hair, works, although would’ve liked it a little simpler. I don’t mind the shoes, she needed them for the length. There might’ve been a case for going a bit more over the top on the shoes as they’re there anyway. Hem it! LOL! Fabric, lining, interlining, stiffening on the hem! For one red carpet loan! Yeah, wear the platforms ;D

  • GillianHolroyd

Appropriately dramatic for the premiere of a comic book movie, so WIN.

  • MarissaLG

She always brings it, but she should have left those shoes to Steffi and gone with something more demure.

  • cocohall

Bing, Bing, Chitty Chitty Bing Bang, We Love You! Honestly, even with the wonky shoes she still doesn’t disappoint. Everything about the look except the shoes is giving me high fashion super hero. Those shoes are giving me Adult Film Awards.

  • poorellensmith

Gaga called and wants her flats back.

  • Mars Tokyo

    The shoes are insane.

  • JynxTheCat

    She’s a fembot. A REALLY GOOD ONE…but not human.

  • The model proves that classic shoes go with a classic look. I hate those dumbass shoes.

  • Ali2044

With a red lip she’d be Sean Young from Blade Runner. Which would not be a bad thing at all.
