She looks great overall, but she needs some non-red accessories such as a coloured belt, as well as a totally different hairdo. I mean seriously, what is with that hair; her head is not that large.

I’m convinced Lupita Nyong’o would get lavished in praise for wearing the same thing, though.

    • VioletFem

In all fairness, Lupita would probably wear the wrong pair of shoes with this dress.

      • Imasewsure

And we already have to ignore all of L’s footwear so although it is unfair, Em still has to pay for her choices

  • Kent Roby

That hair looks like she has been supporting sponsors Ketel One and Bud Lite.

    • Imasewsure

I kind of saw “Emma Thompson’s wacky younger sister” but I think you are closer to the truth… this look reads Future Walk of Shame

    • demidaemon

EXACTLY. And the spokespeople are Emmy and her hairstylist.

    • holla

maybe she was unofficially supporting them a earlier

  • It’s a bit Christmassy, no?

But I forgive because I WANT THOSE EARRINGS.

  • marlie

I saw this on the interwebs last night and my first thought was “ice skater costume.”

This isn’t really doing it for me. The dress is fine – pretty even – but rather boring. And it’s all TOO matchy with the lipstick and the shoes, and then the clutch and the earrings (though they both look great with the dress).

  • Kelly

Hate the hot-mess hair, but I like the dress. Feet are too matchy, though. And apparently you can make shoes out of Twizzlers. Who knew?

    • Kent Roby

I bet $10 that Katy Perry owns these shoes in every flavor.

      • QuietHarper

I’d pile on to your end of that bet. *Snort*

  • ThaliaMenninger

From the thumbnail, I thought this was Penelope Cruz. Odd. But the color is beautiful on her. I’m down with everything except the earrings and the cheap Christmas trash clutch.

  • Sarah

The lace at the bottom of that skating costume is very cheap-polyester-looking. And she should not have gone with green for the accessories, even if they are pretty jewels. I know that dress is trying to be dark pink, but the whole effect is, as other kittens have noted, X-mas on Ice.

  • Karen Belgrad

    Matchy-Matchy is giving me twitchy-twitchy

  • Lori

I like the dress and the color is great on her, but that’s some unfortunate styling FAIL. Way too matchy, matchy and the hair is not working.

  • GillianHolroyd

I like the hair, makeup, and color of the dress but I’d like to see this as a sheath rather than a flippy skirt. More Cocktail and less Sweet Sixteen if you know what I mean.

    • FibonacciSequins

I just said I’d like to see more pouf in the skirt, but I’d be good with a sheath also.

  • She does love her reds.

    • kimmeister

At least none of them are clashing!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

I really love this with no reservations at all. Beautiful color. She looks gorgeous, confident and comfortable in it. It’s super sexy without going too far. The jewels and styling are nice – I don’t even mind the hair. Might be a WERQ for me!

  • gayle

Just a simple pretty dress but she should have picked non-matching shoes.

  • brown-eyed girl

At what age does a woman become too old to wear this kind of dress? It’s a great color on her, but it looks similar to dresses that I just checked out at Delia’s for my teenage daughter.

    • boweryboy

I think if you find yourself asking this question, then that alone says the woman is too old to wear this kind of dress. Put this dress on Selena Gomez and suddenly it’s age appropriate.

    • lunchcoma

      20. This is fine for the Teen Choice Awards, but it’s too precious for anyone who’s old enough to drink in a bar.

  • MilaXX

Cute, not crazy about the hair, but I like the look.

  • Cute! I love the hem on that.

  • KT

Ugh, matching shoes AND lips, girl? I guess not everyone can be creative…

    Cute bag, though.

  • crash1212

It’s a cute, flippy little dress in a color she was made to wear. I was running with the lip color, but the shoes are a match too far. If she had to do red shoes, she should’ve gone with something along the lines of the model shoes. Hate the bag. Love the earrings, but not with this dress. Less said about the hair, the better. She is one beautiful woman.

    • FibonacciSequins

All of this. I would like the dress better if the skirt were a little more poufy. I think the model’s making that happen with her hands in the pockets (LOVE pockets in a dress), but I think ‘slightly more pouf’ should have been a design element.

      • crash1212

I’m thinking ‘slightly more pouf’ should become a standard design element! And I second the love of pockets in a dress. LOVE.

  • Noah

    Is it Christmas already?

  • Mothra

I like the whole look, and think it looks a little better longer on Em than on the model. Yes it is very red matchy but I like it. Could just be my own personal wish to constantly wear ice skating dresses talking, though.

  • Danielle

It’s giving me shades of ice dancer chic, but I can’t hate on those earrings.

  • Julie

She clearly attended the GLAAD awards with that head because she was auditioning new hairstylists. Otherwise, the dress is cute.

    • Lori

  • Laura Abrahamsen

Now this might have been appropriate on Lea Michele for her animated movie premiere. Maybe even better on tiny Lea than willowy Emmy?

    • It’d be a couple of inches longer, which would be a good thing!

  • Too matchy with the shoes. I’m wondering what color shoe she could have done and avoided ending up at “Christmas-y” or “godawful.” Maybe a pewter?

  • demidaemon

Oh, Emmy. Just no. Your hair stylist was obviously drunk and you look like you are going to the prom. In the 80s.

  • Dan_In_NYC

I was at the event. Naomi Watts was serving fuschia pantsuit realness and Kylie Minogue led the audience in an a cappella karaoke version of “I just Can’t Get You Outta My Head” while dancing on table #4.

My date was a Fashion Gay. His comment about Emmy “Well, that is certainly the color this season, but it’s a little short. I don’t need to see her knees right now.”

Mine: “She looks like a figure skater. Fail.”

    • demidaemon

      I prefer your comment. 🙂

  • furyleika

But hey! They didn’t give her consumption eye makeup this time. That’s good.

  • GeoDiva

    Please no matchy shoes!

  • Jacob Bowen

Change-up the shoes and I wouldn’t even mind that the clutch is a bit red and the hem is questionable.

  • Snailstsichr

She often looks scared to death on the red carpet. I like that she looks relaxed and happy.

  • nannypoo

She defaults to that same facial expression almost every time she sees a camera – eyebrows up, little half smile, look straight at the camera. I’m guessing she does it so she won’t be caught with her eyes closed or her finger up her nose, but I think it makes her look a little simple minded. In the last picture, where she’s actually doing something, she looks gorgeous. But she can’t make me like that dress.

  • jw_ny

I’d rather have seen her go with a stronger eye and lighter lip, and simpler earrings. Her lips are so focus pulling, and there is so much going on with all the red and sparkles that her eyes look sleepy and under-done.

  • MaggieMae

She is as cute as a button. The shadows are making it look like she has bed head.
