Are wrong to be bored? Are we being unfair?

It’s not her fault. We may not think of her as much of a fashionista, but she puts the effort in on the regular and sometimes really nails it. We’ ve got no issues with Amanda Seyfried’s style, is what we’re saying. And truth be told, we have no issues with this look. It just … bores. It’s got some sparkle to it, but the shape’s not great for picture-taking and it just looks like a nice dress to go out clubbing in. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s not setting us on fire. Sorry, girl. It’s not you. It’s us. Maybe we’re spoiled because we spent all day yesterday looking at Downton Abbey and Mad Men costumes.

But that top is a weird shape, right?

I didn’t think it was a weird shape until picture 4 and then I was like “….huh?” Anyway, it’s nice! She’s nice! Everything is nice! Eh.

    • Daisy Walker

Yes, it needs to decide if it wants to be a tank or have cap sleeves. Meh.

  • Jen

The top part could be a more flattering shape… and I can’t figure out the silver stripe… is it a zipper? Does this short dress transition into… a shorter one?

  • kmk05

It’s okay from the front (it has that trendy boxiness going for it) but in three-quarter, profile and movement it’s not looking so hot. She should have maybe posed with a hand on her waist, it would have defined the dress more.

Not in love with the naked shoes or the mermaid hair or the too fresh face either.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

There is something wonky about the shape of the top of this dress. My first thought when I saw this dress is that the designer was paying homage to the Pearlies of London?

  • NMMagpie

Not the most flattering. More of a “yeah…and?”

  • SewingSiren

I like it. Kind of an updated beaded chemise with echoes of the flapper and the 1960’s girl groups.

  • Constant Reader

I like it! Maybe it’s a bit boxy, but it’s a shape that you actually have to have a great figure to pull off. It lets the super-short skirt with her great legs and her gorgeous face do all the talking. I would like a slightly stronger lip and slightly more interesting hair, but those are minor quibbles.

  • MaggieMae

Oh yeah, super weird shape at top. Deal breaker weird.

  • Anna

That is one unflattering tunic. I actually like the shoes, but they are deserving of a Bianca Jagger Studio 54-era Halston-type halter dress (and a pedicure).

She has great skin, but her makeup is reading as “just woke up.”

  • B_C_J

Horrible silhouette!! That dress is not doing her any favors. However, I like the heels.

  • SugarSnap108

The cut of the top is definitely off. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong in the shoulder area till I realized those are epaulets. So weird. It’s cute enough, but poorly constructed.

    • GillianHolroyd

The epaulets are one element too many.

  • Reine Bron

her hair is amazing. L’oreal should sign her up !

  • Ginger

I’m apathetic about the dress, but can we talk about her head, please? That hair color is not her friend and she needs to lose a LOT of length. It never really looks healthy.

    • SugarSnap108

I’m so with you on the hair. A lot of people (including the lady herself, I guess) seem to think her hair is a great asset. But I feel like it drags her down.

    • 3boysful

I like the color of the bottom half of her hair. It’s probably just a lighting thing, but the top looks ash-y, and the bottom more golden.

  • I like the dress. I was looking at all those Downton Abbey costumes thinking how comfortable shapelessness looks. But combining it with boring hair and makeup and shoes just makes it all blah. She needs to do something jolly with her hair.

    • KinoEye

“Something jolly.” Love it. All hair should be jollier! The world would be a better place.

    • jtabz

I love the phrase “how comfortable shapelessness looks” … I’m imagining it as something Lady Mary exclaims to Lady Edith:
“Oh, Edith, you really remind me how comfortable shapelessness looks!”

    • demidaemon

It’s almost non-make-up, isn’t it? Like you have to squint real hard to even tell she is wearing any. This is a situation that needs attention, stat.

  • Jessica Freeman

Well for it to be McQueen it really is a dud. It’s really busy on top and just dies into a black skirt? I can’t figure out if that’s a silver zipper that goes around or what. Meh.

  • conniemd

Don’t like the shape, along with the other BKs. But it’s absolutely the wrong dress to go with that backdrop. The dress is nighttime clubby and the background is “doh” bright sunny western out of doors. She needed a vivid color, not a black with bling. Nothing says “western” like that, right? 🙂

  • @Biting Panda

Snoozefest. Add a couple of inches to the skirt, change out the sandals for a black heel and you’ve got yourself a barely kicky office dress.

  • Janet B

I like the dress, but it’s not really her dress. It’s not horrible, but she’s not making it sing: maybe she’s too busty, maybe it’s too short, maybe it’s the wrong shoes; I’m not sure.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I think she looks great. Has anyone noticed that none of the celebs posing for the photo calls for this movie have REALLY smiled? I’m starting to think they may have something to regret, hmmm…

  • KinoEye

My main problem here is the makeup, which looks very DIY. The eyes are tending towards consumption, although I’ll say I like the idea of less eye makeup for her. Just the wrong shade of shadow. The lip color (if there is any — looks pretty natural) is also wrong. The hair looks like an afterthought.

Her legs go on for days, don’t they?

    • demidaemon

Me too. Not only is it DIY, it’s DIY in two minutes, which mean it is the bare essentials. And, for a look like this, it needed more POW.

    • Jacob Bowen

Her hair is ALWAYS an afterthought…it’s as if she says, “Brushed? To the side? Okay, fine.” EVERY TIME.

  • yllas

I love the dress, the shape is kinda ….??? I thought her bare legs and feet looked awful. This is why I stills wear hose on a big occasion! no one needs to see my grungy toes and splotchy prickery legs.

    • &theJets

As someone nearly 20 years Ms. Seyfried’s senior, I am always relieved to see close-ups of celebrities’ legs and see that they have the same scars/pores/nicks we non-celebrities have. 🙂

  • Lori

The shape is kind of weird, but I don’t think the look is boring. I can certainly see why she chose this–it’s showing off her legs very nicely.

  • lamamu

I think what’s throwing off the proportions of the dress is that she’s a little too boobalicious for the top.

And I wish she had put her hair away. A simple braid or something…

  • BayTampaBay

Nothing special but it does not look bad at all.

  • Kirstin McAulay

Is this in tribute to the spangley things that cowboy villains wear around their hats??

  • ktr33

The top makes her look… top heavy. But I like the skirt length and shape! It’s refreshing to see a short skirt that isn’t all hoochie, like some starlets we know and won’t name. But, yeah, a yaaawwn.

  • ktr33

oh, lord, I didn’t even notice the epaulets. Those pretty much only work on Miss Janet, c. 1988, say.

  • Denise Rambo

If you’re going wear shoes THAT bare, you HAVE to make sure your toes look FABULOUS! She needs polish – or at least a french pedicure.

  • BLauD

It’s really unfortunate how the gold of the shoes reflects to make her feet look as if they are battling a fungal infection.
She looks nice enough, but yes, a bit of a yawn.

  • Alyssa

I think this could have worked with the right styling…better makeup and hair were needed for sure.

  • Judy_S

You might be less bored if you hadn’t just finished the Downton Abbey marathon postings. This dress invites, and suffers by, comparison.

  • frannyprof

It’s not you, TLo. She’s boring me, too. And the shoes are making me to the toe grab of death in sympathy.

  • kimmeister

The shoulder strap thingies (passants?) are silly. Her hair must’ve gotten caught all day long on the ornaments on the front of dress, it really should’ve been in an updo. But, I don’t hate the dress, and I don’t hate the matchy naked shoes deployed with it.

  • MannahattaMamma

those shoes make me want to cry. Actually my toes may be weeping in sympathy

  • decormaven

I’m more interested in looking at Monument Valley on the movie poster behind her. That doesn’t say much for this look.

  • JynxTheCat

her poor feet. In my next life I am going to be a podiatrist in LA

  • save_the_hobbit

I bet she cried after she saw her profile pictures in this dress. It’s doing horrible, unspeakable things to her body.

  • Vegas Girl

Why are her toes yellow? Is it a reflection off the shoes? It looks so weird.

    • MilaXX

It looks to me like her spray tan is giving them that yellowish tone. She needs some polish on those toes.

      • Vegas Girl

That would make sense. I agree with you on the polish – Get thee to a nail salon stat!

  • Danielle

It’s a weird shape but I like the glittery details.

  • MarissaLG

I like it. I think a lot of stars go way too fancy for most premiers (unless it’s a major city/major drama I don’t feel like a gown is appropriate) (Also, it’s silly how McQueen is the more casual choice)

She looks cute and natural and relaxed. LOVE the shoes.

  • yethica

Her legs look weirdly skinny in this outfit…. I think it’s the volume of the top.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Some vampy hair and a bold cuff could have taken this someplace.

  • MilaXX

The top looks weird because she has boobs. It’s for an A cup gal .

  • BlairBear

I think the shape is kind of off. I think it needed a longer skirt and a shorter top to be better proportioned. Also the zipper midway on her butt isn’t helping matters

  • Sam Erin

The structure of the shoulders makes her look so top-heavy.

Her last mega pole dance was for Les Mis. Compared to that ultra-marathon, this looks like a walk around the block.

    • FibonacciSequins

That’s just what I was going to say – top-heavy. It’s nothing special, but it does draw attention to her legs, which are spectacular, so mission accompolished I suppose.

  • Boxy like a Volvo.

  • Gatto Nero

The top is a weird shape — especially from a three-quarter or side view. But the embellishments are nice.
She bores me in general, so no surprises here.

  • crash1212

Yes. The top is a weird shape. I’m not mad at it, but it’s not the best look ever.

  • demidaemon

This thing is doing weird things to her shape. Wrong proportions all around. And I feel like she needs to put some volume into the make-up situation, because everything here just looks ultra bland.

  • Synnae

I like Amanda and I like McQueen so when I saw the header I was like yay! But now it is nay… that top is so the wrong shape for her (or any woman with more than an A-cup), also a bit of make-up? And the toe grabbing just looks painful. Give the topto a tall flat straight up and down girl, find some extra straps for the shoes and put on something from McQueen that actually flatters your shape (there’s plenty of that in the current collection).

  • formerlyAnon

I think she looks hella cute. The top is oddly boxy, but I’m going to go with the idea that on a tiny little thing like Ms. Seyfried, that’s a feature, not a bug.

  • unbornfawn

Yes, the top is sitting very oddly at the shoulders. Not a bad look, I can see why it bores you.

  • quiltrx

The top is too boxy…in an upside-down way? Usually it’s the bottom that’s too stand-out-from-the-body and boxy…but this one, weirdly, is too much that way in the shoulders and bust. Just odd.
And the shoes bug me. The gold is reflecting off her toes, making it look like they have yellow stains.

  • marlie

It’s cute, but the shape of the top is a little weird from some angles. Also, this look is begging for more lip color.

  • LadyVimes

Honey, as a fellow Well-Breasted Woman™, I have to tell you that the sack-dress look, while cute and modern on ladies with less…endowment, just doesn’t photograph well when you have the girls going on. I know, it’s tempting, but really, it looks like a sack and is horribly unflattering, especially from the side. Learn from my mistakes.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Weird shape. And today, I realized exactly what her face will look like as she ages.. and that’s not good, is it?

  • DuBey2

    Boring and enthickening.

  • Fuchsiaforever

    SO boring

  • FridaStaire

I wish she had her sheer tights on – and different shoes. Or perhaps no tights and white go-go boots.

  • cocohall

This is the sort of top that starts pregnancy rumors. I have no idea if she is in the family way or not, or even if she has a baby daddy in her life at this point. But one could be hiding many things under there . . . . . Which is not to say she looks bad. She looks just fine. I have seen a few clips from this movie and it seems very very odd. I can forgive her for doing the bare minimum.
