Aw, Adam, You didn’t stick the dismount.

This totally works as a declarative, “Here’s my look, world” moment. It both is and isn’t what you’d expect him to look like for this event, making it something of an intriguing head-turn of an ensemble. Love the hair, the shoes and the cut of the suit – for Adam Lambert, if not particularly for ourselves. It’s the right style for him and more importantly, it’s a perfect example of someone taking their personal style and upscaling it for the red carpet.

The problem? It just doesn’t fit correctly. We realize the proportions on that suit are deliberately off, but it’s definitely not supposed to be pulling like that in the jacket. Get that shirt collar standing up and let that jacket out an inch and this would easily be a BoyWERQ. As it is, it’s a strong “Attaboy.” We love the look, if not the execution.

Is he trying to be Elton circa 1970s?

      • stephen

i’m getting a very george michael “faith” era vibe….especially the hair.

        • http://sleepingfoxstitchery.weebly.com CLoverleaf

Just what I was thinking. He looks exactly like George Michael in the pics with the glasses on.

          • sienna elm

The only difference is that George had an aviator frame, rather than the round frame…but besides that it’s dead on! (and that’s NOT a bad thing!)

        • Anna

          Thought that as well!

        • Ginger

And now I have to load a George Michael Pandora station. Thanks! It’s gonna be a great Friday. :)

          • stephen

ya gotta have faith, baby! :)

          • Cortney Dean

You are brilliant and I am enjoying the heck out of this station. Well done.

          • SugarSnap108

            I am currently cranking “Freedom.”

        • French_Swede

Yes! I thought the same thing.

        • ktr33

Yeh – nothing wrong with that!

        • MoHub

Definitely a George Michael vibe there.

        • Kate4queen

just repeated what you said above LOL I should read comments first…

      • Jessica Freeman

Not a rhinestone or feather in sight, so no.

      • demidaemon

Exactly my thought. Young Elton John. Except, unlike TLo, I am not digging the hair.

        • Clash D

          It’s too Pepe Le Pew.

      • kmk05

I thought he was angling for Ricky Martin.

    • Carrie

He is pimping! Not sure I’m sold on the blond hair though.

      • Ginger

I think I read somewhere (I actually think it was here) that he is a natural redhead. I really do wish he’d embrace that. I think he’d look much better. With that being said, I like the blond much better than the jet black.

        • French_Swede

Yes, his natural color is blondish-red. I remember seeing a pic of him as a kid when he was a finalist on American Idol.

        • Anna

His freckles are dying to be reunited with his natural color! I love the blonde on him though!

          • Ginger

I think his freckles are dying to be uncovered…period.

I’m no shrink, but I have a theory about AL and his desire to dye his hair and cover his freckles. As a redheaded freckle-faced kid growing up, I had SO many people make fun of me, but not near as much as the redheaded freckle-faced boy that I went to school with. Redheaded boys just don’t get much love from other kids. I think he’s trying to get away from being that kid that everybody made fun of. I will say that it took me many, many years to love my hair and freckles. He just might not be in that place yet.

            • Anna

I think you’re right on with your assessment. Growing up, I definitely noticed the redheaded kids getting teased for their coloring. The only redheaded boy I went to school with (in elementary school) was a vicious little asshole – truly monstrous. Even now when I picture him, not only do I see his red hair and freckles, but his teeth are filed into points with a terrible tooth-to-gum ratio. Nobody dared tease him though since he was just so mean. Now I wonder, though, was he mean because he had been teased badly before?

            • DTLAFamilies

I think that attitude is changing. My son has red hair and he gets a lot of positive attention and has never been teased, at least not that I’ve ever heard. He’s not very freckly, though, so maybe that accounts for it.

            • Ginger

I hope you’re right. Kids are mean little bastards towards each other. It kills me!

            • Grumpy Girl

From wee-small toddlerhood, I have always had a fascination with red hair and freckles. A big source of sadness for me that I have neither, even during those school years. Kids are mean little bastards no matter what you look like.

            • Alloy Jane

Sad :( I love gingers. But I’m a brown person and brown people covet red hair and go to great lengths to purchase and maintain that color. Funny story, I was at a music festival a few years ago and as I was mentally high-fiving a fellow brown girl for snagging a hot redhead, I hear “Daaaaaamn, she came UP with that bigass redheaded dude.” I had to laugh. Gingers are like unicorns.

    • James

I hate it. The shoes with the too short pants. The jacket is too small and overall, just a huge no.

    • jilly_d

      Personal best.

    • lizajane1776

Are those SNAPS under the buttons? Ugh, NO!

      • Ginger

Ugh is right! I didn’t notice that.

      • Jacob Bowen

Ummmm…I kinda LOVE the idea. I think it would be especially awesome on my little cousin’s Communion suit for tomorrow, because he cannot, for the life of him, unbutton it and I can see it becoming an issue.

        • Sarah

He is a little cousin, though – not a growed-up man.

    • Ginger

The fabric of that shirt has a print on it that makes it look very wrinkled…at least to my eyes. Also, that top button on the jacket sits too high, which I think (especially when buttoned) is part of what makes it look wonky. Otherwise I do love this look for him…especially the shoes!

      • TwiddlyStun

My first thought was “so THAT’S where all of the ladystar jewelry has gone.”

      • 3boysful

Re the jewelry–how does one keep track of it all??! at least 4 ear piercings, nose piercing, id bracelet, multiple rings . . . . I’d have to employ a jewelry dresser.

        • Constant Reader

Start early in the day and stop adding pieces when you’re exhausted and need to lie down?

        • Ginger

I wear my wedding ring on my left hand (along with 2 bracelets that I wear every single day) and 2 rings that my husband bought for me on my right. Yesterday I walked out of my house with no rings on my right hand. I felt very lopsided all day. That’s a very long way of saying that, even with as relatively little jewelry that I wear, I could use a jewelry dresser, too. I’ve also walked out of the house with only one earring.

      • Wendi126

That hand pic reads Las Vegas car dealer or Liberace.

    • French_Swede

Wow … I thought this was George Michael! The hair, the sunglasses, the tight suit …

    • Anna

Fit issues and shirt collar aside, I love this for him. Love the colour and the blonde; and he’s pulling off all that jewellery better than the ladystars who’ve attempted it, I think. Also, his brow grooming is outstanding.

      • Jacob Bowen

The brow game is strong with this one…

        • Anna

As one of those idiots who totally over-plucked her brows in the ’90s, I am so SOO jealous of his strong brow game.

          • FrigidDiva

I have super light blonde eyebrows so if I don’t pencil them in I look like I don’t have eyebrows at all and I have a sort of brunette sort of blonde hair color. I just need to figure out how to be able to pencil/fill them in to be fuller and not have it look like I filled them in with a Sharpie.

            • Anna

Mine were thicker before I attacked them with the tweezermans, but they’re still lighter than my hair colour. It took some experimenting but I found a brow powder/wax combo (NYX eyebrow cake powder) that blends really well without that filled in with a Sharpie look.

Mom was right *sigh*, should’ve left well enough alone!

            • KinoEye

Moms are always right about these things. I also tweezed mine into oblivion against her advice. Luckily I’ve got strong, Scottish genes, so they grow back fairly quickly and they’re always dark. They still have random patches where no hair will grow, so I’ve taken to penciling. But I’m almost to my ideal eyebrow, which is somewhere between Kiernan Shipka and Emma Watson. I’d be happy with Adam’s brows too, though!

            • Anna

YES, those are perfect ideal brows. I tried to get mine to look like Gwen Stefani circa “Just a Girl” and it was clearly disastrous, I definitely need to fill in the random sparse patches. When I try to leave them be and grow, hair grows back pretty much everywhere but those areas that I want filled in.

            • Leah Elzinga

Same boat here, plus I routinely dye my hair somewhere in the eggplant/navy/midnight family so… my trick is to use a pencil to LIGHTLY outline the right shape, but then use a slightly subtler powder to fill in that form and blend in the edges. Works like a hot damn, no matter how dark or light I’ve wanted my brows. Good luck!

            • FrigidDiva

I’ve never tried using powder before. I usually use the Rimmel eyebrow pencil in Hazel. I dye my hair all the time in varying shades and I’ve found that the color goes with pretty much anything, but I may have to try the powder. Thanks!

    • Andsheewas

That’s serious George Michael realness he’s got going on.

      • largishbearishAtlish

dang…beat me to it! just posted the same thing…

    • Emily Giovanni

Love the shades! and also the photogs reflected in them in the close up shot.

    • Jessica Freeman

Even with the few minor quibbles, I love this polished version of himself.

    • RedRaven617

      :::sigh::: I love those eyes.

    • Jacob Bowen

I just saw him post this online and I LOVE this on him! The suit is a FANTASTIC color and I am digging the hair…I also secretly dig the glasses, but they would look TERRIBLE on me.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

        Who designed the glasses?

        • Glam Dixie

          MYKITA & Bernhard Willhelm

    • @Biting Panda

I’m late. I’m going to give my impression and then read the others. One one hand he’s quite snappy and true to self. On the other he’s giving Liberace Gumby Realness, Off to see what the other Kittens had to say.

    • FunButNutz

One day people are going to look at pictures of “fashionable men from 2014″ and laugh at the pant length, just the way we laugh at bell bottoms from the 70′s now. It’s ridiculous.

      • melisaurus

Except that they’re not nearly as ubiquitous as bellbottoms were. I know my dad was wearing bellbottoms but I don’t think the average 20 something is wearing cropped pants.

    • sienna elm

I’m okay with the poor fit, all until we get to the naked ankles in dress shoes! What is it with that lately?

As an aside I absolutely love the close up of his face with the paparazzi’s unintentional self-portrait in his glasses.

      • sun

Great catch, I didn’t even notice that! That photo suddenly says a lot more about celeb life than it did a moment ago.

      • Constant Reader

There is a Deep Thought waiting to surface about how, when we look at celebrities, we are really looking for our own reflection. Except I’m not really up to it today. Anyone?

    • B_C_J

He is a very handsome man. However the fit of the jacket and the pants is horrendous. The crotch of the pants is way too low. However in Adam’s defense, the model’s fit is no better. I like the blond hair.

    • Nancer

I want the rings on his right hand!

    • nannypoo

From the neck up he looks great but everything else is just silly.

    • MichelleRafter

      He’s the Liberace of 2014.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

I always thought he could be the modern day Wayne Newton – do the long running Vegas show. He’s got great personality, women and men love him. He’s got that over-the-top glam look and I could see him aging nicely with pretty much this same look for forever…

        • @Biting Panda

The Glamberts don’t fuck around. They’d give Vegas all their money.

          • marlie

I’m surprised that they haven’t all descended on this site. :P

            • Eric Stott

              Major surprise here too!

    • Patrick Cleary

Yeah, the jacket makes the height of the pants hem look like a mistake. Otherwise, he’s really looking fab.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      Face!
      Yes! Looking SO good!
Don’t love this suit – not just on him. Adam’s looking lean as I have seen him – but the pants are bugging.

    • Lilithcat

The overall look is awfully shiny.

And I hate the dress shoes with no socks. And the suit jacket’s too small and the pants are too short.

      Ick.

      • BayTampaBay

I can deal with the pant length but the jacket looks two sizes two small as if the it was “shrunk” by the dry cleaners.

    • bizarro

The George Michael hair suits him. I love George Michael. Okay, now I have the Wham rap stuck in my head.

    • LeelaST

Great assessment, TLo! I love that Adam tries trends and actual Fashion, but from the second I saw it I said “The fit is off.” The jacket issue is obvious but there’s also something off in the pant fit too, it almost looks drop-crotch in some shots. But he looks terrific from the top jacket button up!

      • teensmom99

The pants are just wrong–the bad fit is bad on the model, too.

        • LeelaST

Yes, it’s not quite as noticeable because his legs are thinner, but at the bottom of the pocket area the fabric juts out. With a shorter leg I think something else needs to be taken in.

    • Cortney Dean

I’m just jealous that he has better eyebrows than I do. Much like I get jealous watching long haired football players that have better hair than I do.

      • MilaXX

To be fair he probably can afford celebrity brow salons like Anastasia and Damone Roberts so it’s not wonder they are perfect.

    • teensmom99

For me, a scrolldown fug once we got below the shoulders. The fit is just so weird. I loved the green and what it seemed like he was trying to do. I also think that it’s sad but true that the cut of that suit is really only for the unbelievably skinny–I guess we call them models. Love the face and hair and shoulders, though! And I agree with the attaboy–got a to love a boy for being himself (even if himself is kind of George Michael as BK Stephen noted.

      • teensmom99

Just looked at the pictures again and want to add that when something looks tight on the model, step away.

    • Danielle

He’s giving me shades of George Michael and I’m dying for those sunnies. Attaboy.

    • MissMariRose

He’s getting to Liberace levels of jewelry. Should we be worried?

    • j_am

Totally unrecognizable. Those shoes… ugh. Frankenstein.

      • yulaffin

I don’t mind the shoes but I hate the no sock look. I also prefer him in dark hair but he does look good here.

      • Andsheewas

Yes, some serious Bogey lift going on there.

    • decormaven

If the fit were better, and socks were worn, this would be a WERQ. These minor issues aside, this is a good color for him- both in the suit and the hair.

    • Gatto Nero

Great suit and color. But — help me out with this, will you? Why are we seeing so many slender men in jackets that fit at the shoulder but pull at the button? Is everyone just cutting suits for eleven-year-old boy bodies now?

      • Constant Reader

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Do fashion designers even know how human beings are shaped anymore? (Judging from all the too tight jackets on the men and the uniboob on women, I’m guessing the answer is No.)

      • formerlyAnon

        Short answer: apparently.

      • MilaXX

i think it’s the same reason why we see so many lady celbs with dresses so tight we can see their belly buttons even when they are innies. Apparently designers think adult humans should have the same build as 10 year old children.

    • MartyBellerMask

Ooooh, no. There is not a thing about this that I like. Maybe I’m just a sucker for his Chris-Isaak-gone-goth look.

    • KinoEye

I adore the color of the suit, and I want those glasses for myself. The blonde is pretty awful, to my eyes, but it’s styled well enough. Attaboy indeed.

      • Kitten Mittons

I can’t decide if I like the hair or not. But I do love the color of that suit, and I always really appreciate the effort he puts in on looking his best.

I want a green suit now in the worst way.

        • KinoEye

Scrolling back up to look at it, it’s not so bad from a distance. It’s not a bad dye job by any means — I just don’t know if it suits him. Another kitten mentioned he’s a natural redhead, so his coloring is likely pretty tricky to match hair with. I’d love to see him try the red, though there’s probably a good reason he hasn’t.

          • Kitten Mittons

Agreed. I would love to see his natural hair color, but hearing he was a redhead surprised me a lot. I wouldn’t have ever picked that shade with his coloring. So yeah, maybe he has a good reason.

            • queenrosered

Actually and to be more accurate, he is a natural “strawberry blond” Lambert seldom makes fashion mistakes. The “high water” slacks are in style right now. I also would have liked a slightly looser fit in the jacket. I’ve seen him in person recently (stood next to him for a photo with his arm around my shoulders *swoon*) and the angle of the camera makes him look almost heavy. He’s not. He is downright thin yet very broad-shouldered and barrel-chested (all the better for that multi-octaved voice!) With regards to the shoes, I like these but he’d never make a good shoe model because “his feets is too damn big!” LOL! (11 and 1/2) By the way, he’s even MORE gorgeous live!

            • Kitten Mittons

Thanks for the info on his hair. Either way, I would never picture him with reddish tones in his hair at all, given his natural skin tones, so that’s interesting.

He is looking pretty svelte in these pictures, definitely. I would disagree that he seldom makes fashion mistakes, but I suppose that’s all in the eye of the beholder. Those slacks are in style, and it’s a style that suits him well, but in my opinion they are not fitted correctly because the crotch is too low, and the waist also seems a bit low. The jacket is definitely a bit too snug, as it pulls across his body.

He gets major points for wearing a green suit period. And he always puts in the effort to look appropriate for his appearances. I can appreciate that.

    • ktr33

Everything looks sharp as shit down to and including length of pant and bare ankle but the shoes are wrong. I guess it dressy for the red carpet but slightly-conservative me would prefer a suede wingtip or I’d concede to a Gucci loafer, old style

    • boweryboy

Eeeew. No. Just no. He grosses me out on so many levels.

    • disqus_JNr8cF1G9n

Adam is so beyond gorgeous………….. that for anyone to pick apart one thing about him is almost laughable..
Please.. step back.. look at that man……He’s ffffffn Perfect ! ❤

    • ktr33

I see nothing Liberace here except the rings which I like as a small nod to 70s fabulous

    • Eric Stott

This is a 99 out of 100 for me …he should either wear a little less jewelry or a lot more. Still, this is a definite thumbs up moment.

    • Glam Dixie

I hate the fit of that suit, I just hate it, but when I just look at the pictures of his face and shoulders and those eyes, all I can say is Dayum! Love the idea and the color but it’s all just a bit off in the fit and I will never be ok with short pants. Ankles go under your pants, much like butt crack. Put them under fabric and I’m happy. This girl can’t wait for the Queen + AL show at the Merriwether Post Pavillion! woot!

    • shirab

In the tight headshot, look at the reflection in his sunglasses of all those photographers. Yikes. The celeb life is not for the weak.

    • Constant Reader

I’d forgive the slightly-too-tight fit and the slightly-too-much bling if the pants were a skosh longer and the shoes were not so aggressively ugly. I would even forgive the pant length if the outfit were more casual. The shoes, however, will always FEEL MY WRATH.

    • msdamselfly

Great look (except for the gaudy rings)

    • MilaXX

I get a bit if a George Michael vibe from the hair & glasses. Still this effort is to be commended. If only the jacket fit correctly.

      • marlie

        Ha. Jinx.

    • marlie

I like this look a lot, for the color of the suit, and for the unexpectedness (for Adam Lambert, that is). Overall, it’s a little weird; he seems more “early George Michael” than himself, though maybe that was the look he was going for? But yeah, minor quibbles… he looks pretty good.

    • Tara Huber

I dont know what to think about. this outfit. But it is definitley cloze to elton and george micbael

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Wow. He’s wearing more rings than Sarah Jessica Parker.

    • BobStPaul

Because of the bad fit of the suit (not to mention the too short hem line) and those incredibly ugly shoes I think this is one of his worst looks ever – even though the rest of him is very well put together.

    • somebody blonde

I’ve never liked his taste in shoes. I’m impressed with his head though. The light facial hair and the blonde hair both work very well for him, and I dig those shades.

    • kim bunchalastnames

from the top button up, i think he looks great.* from there on down … oh dear no.

*if a little “lovechild of ricky martin/sir elton”

    • luludexter

Yes, except those shoes – I just can’t…

    • TheRealAndra

I love him with the fair hair! The golden boy look suits him much better than Goth Frankenstein’s monster look.

    • ojosazules

      The pants look really awful.

    • OffToSeeHim

I like his hair, but the sunglasses on the red carpet take it straight to “douche” for me.

      • Imasewsure

It was probably 90 degrees and they were looking directly in to the sun on that RC so I think we should give everyone a pass for the shades yesterday. I kind of give him a pass for everything though because he’s fun to look at…

    • Shawn EH

I don’t get one thing about that suit.

    • Qitkat

I’ve never noticed a suit jacket before with snaps instead of buttonholes. The ensemble is such a lovely, different color for a suit, that he is making a statement right there, why would he then feel he had to tweak it with poor fit? He looks pretty impeccable otherwise, the jewelry and shoes are totally him. And his grooming is perfect. Love the hair and the exact amount of tidied up scruff.

      • marlie

If not anything else, he needs to give lessons to the other guystars about how to do scruff *nicely.*

    • formerlyAnon

He looks quite the grown man. (Meant in a good way.) That hair color is very good on him.

    • Ann VerWiebe

I just don’t get suits with snaps instead of buttons. There is no way to gracefully leave a snap undone.

    • Perigee

In addition to the fit issues, AL needs to take one accessory off of his right hand and two accessories off of his left hand. There is line where glam becomes gaudy and his wrists are sitting on it. Overall this is good though. I think that Lambert has been making better and more polished style choices in the past year.

    • malarson2

      He’s hot. Literally?

    • Michelle Gennari

Something weird’s going on in the crotch area on those pants.

    • Dagney

George Michael called. He wants his look back.

    • Kate4queen

I thought it was George Michael for a sec!

    • largishbearishAtlish

Anyone else getting a George Michaels love child vibe here?

I love the green suit. Too much jewelry though.

That was a fun scrolldown. Agree about the jacket’s fit. Other than that I think George Michael, I mean Adam Lambert, has styled it better than the runway model.

Adam Lambert can ROCK a suit like nobody’s business, but my first reaction is that the jacket is too short and it is pulling. I’ll take ANY of his freckled skin showing even if it is his untanned ankles. I think the color is a little off for him considering he doesn’t golf. LOL With that face and body, Adam CAN wear anything. But it doesn’t mean he should. On the plus side, everyone is talking. And you can’t just talk about the clothes without mentioning he is fronting QUEEN this Summer.

The reflection in his sunglasses looks so cool!

He really does favor the Herman Munster aesthetic when it comes to shoes. Love the suit, I scoff at the hair, and wish he would either grow out the beard more or shave it.

wow! one more ring and I would say the fabulous Liberace was channeling himself through dear Adam.

Servin up some George Michael realness there.

Just don’t get it, not a fashionista I suppose but I find him and the outfit absurd.

      I covet those sunglasses.

    • Columbinia

      No.

    • Klee

Love the hair and face though. He looks good

    • Man Dala

He looks like the singer from Glass Tiger circa 1985.

    • dmkava

      Lame. Trying too hard.

    • Tee

You like the shoes with this? Really? It’s like I don’t know my gay uncles anymore.

      • Amel

to me, the “no socks with man shoes” look is the grody, sweaty fashion-equivalent of nails on a chalkboard

I love the suit a lot and even like his hair. I prefer it black but now and then I like the change. I’m not big on the shoes and no socks, but then again, it wouldn’t be so interesting if Adam didn’t shake it up a bit. That’s what I like about him. He shakes things up without looking ridiculous. He doesn’t need to follow perfect fashion norms. Maybe he’ll be on fashion police this week. I’ll have to watch. His pants should be a little longer IMO. But he rocks every look. The glasses are a bit much but he can take those off easily.

For the love of God, wear some socks, man.

    • Jean Beaton Leavitt

He has Las Vegas jewelry on….sadly.

I love that you can actually see the hordes of photographers in his sunglasses’ reflection–it’s a rarely seen perspective.

      • Amel

Yeah that was kind of genius

    • Kelvin

Wich desginer are those sunglasses? There awesome?

    • Mr. J.

Neck up, fine; neck down, ridiculous.

    • JynxTheCat

hate the light hair on him. The jacket looks like a stealth floatation device.
