Gold lace almost never doesn’t look cheap, does it?

    • thecitysleeps

She looks like she’s been dipped into a one coloured earthy pond and the bits stuck on. I like the shoes though.

    • Danielle

Oh my god, it’s lace. I was convinced it was lame.

      • uprightcitizen

On my phone, it totally read “animal print with sheen.” But I’m with you … the realization that it’s gold lace saddens. But hey, there IS the fact that a DVF wrap dress flatters every body type. Just please only in cool retro print jersey knits, the way God intended.

    • Golfkat

Wow! This is unusually toned down for her!

      • HomeOfficeGirl

Right. I don’t disagree with some of the complaints, but honestly I think this is a pretty good look for her as of late. Hair looks soft. She didn’t add any more awful elements. The shoes are almost freakishly conservative.

        • Di

Exactly! I think she looks pretty good.

        • http://www.momforless.com/ Crystal

Yeah, I’m pretty proud she didn’t go for something bizarre like a lime green shoe.

        • MK03

Considering some of the ugly shit she’s been seen in lately, this is a very welcome breath of fresh air.

      • VicD

Yeah, I thought this was pretty good on her, until her bra peeped out.

        • marlie

I didn’t notice that the first time around, and that’s an amateur mistake, but I still think she did pretty well this time around.

        • demidaemon

          Exactly my point.

        • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

Sometimes bras misbehave — this one seems to play hide and seek, so it seems a minor offensive, if any at all. I can live with it, especially if the alternative is nip slip.

    • deelup

She is copper and her dress is bronze and gold. A metallic trifecta.

      • 3boysful

        It makes my eye twitch.

    • Aurora Leigh

I’m convinced she wore this tacky outfit to distract to make her SJP shoes look better by comparison.

    • Hermione

Barbra! Oops, it’s SJP. Would it kill her to wear her hair up, as does the model, or to change up her eye makeup?
Also, her shoes are undistinguished. But I do really like dress, although I have a weakness for DVF.

    • RoseJB

I think this look works for her. Not too zany, and the hair isn’t fried.

      • Trent

We’re apparently in the minority, but I completely agree. The cut of the dress is really flattering, hair looks good (if a little long), makeup not overdone, perfectly fine (if unexciting) shoes…I think she looks attractive and age-appropriate, for once.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

I am agreeing as well. She looks healthy and rested.

    • sojourneryouth

I don’t love this dress (it looks like fancy Christmas wrapping), but she looks good here. I still hate the heavy eyeliner, but she looks younger and more relaxed than she has in a while. What is that poking out in the last photo, though? I would say it’s her bra cup, but it looks like a cord or wire of some kind.

    • Glam Dixie

DVF is your brand Sarah. ETA, it’s very figure flattering and grown up looking but I’m not too crazy about the gold.

      • Imasewsure

I agree… would love to see her get a big fat contract to wear DVF (because it suits her and because it would be a huge step away from the crap she’s been sporting lately)

    • E.Nelson

I have a weakness for SJP. Sure she could rethink the eyeliner, and yeah gold lace always looks like party decorations…at the end of the party…but that SMILE. For some reason she always comes dangerously closer to pulling things off that she has no business pulling off.

      Hate the shoes though.

      • cocohall

Me too. I have loved her since her Square Pegs days. And someone recently dissed her kids on Twitter and she took them DOWN. Total Momma Bear with verbal sophistication that you don’t often find on Twitter or anywhere on social media. She sometimes goes a bit off the rails with her looks, but at least she keeps mixing things up. And I think she looks great here. You’re right, it’s all about that smile!

    • decormaven

Is that her bra peeking out in two of the shots? Double face tape to the rescue. Happy to see jewelry- not a ribbon- on the wrists.

    • http://www.jaimieteekell.com/ Jaimie

      She looks really nice.

    • alyce1213

It looks better from far away, the silhouette is good (thank you, DVF), nice length. Up close, the lace is not so great.
It’s getting to the point where I just want to ambush her, scissors in hand, and chop off about a foot of hair.

    • hughman

I love when she gets all Miranda.

    • Zeee

Not crazy about the top part of the dress, but she looks pretty and normal. No stirrup hose, no feathers, no flashing neon lights. I’m giving this one a thumbs up compared to her usual psychedelic fever dreams.

    • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

I give her credit for actually wearing her ugly shoes, but I don’t think I’m supposed to see her black bra cup…am I?

    • Judih1

zombie eye make up, cocker spaniel hair, painted bronzer – not a good look. Might like the dress if it were longer and no so flouncy at the bottom. But honey this is not your look

SJP was a style icon during the SATC days with Pat Fields help. She is resting on her laurels

    • MilaXX

This is not bad for SJP. I just wish she would give up the center part.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

The stepped away from the multiple necklaces, so maybe next time we can wean her off the centre part or the eyeliner?

        • 3boysful

You sweet little optimistic dreamer, you.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

            ;)

    • Louise de Teliga

She must have been feeling GILTY…and we all have to suffer the consequences…yikes

    • rkdgal

I’m not loving the dress (and it’s DVF, so that kills me), but this is the best her head’s looked in a while, even with the eyeliner.

    • TigerLaverada

The way she does her eye makeup always makes me think she should be able to shoot lasers beams out of her eyes or something. Wish she’d cut her hair in a bob or something, I think it would help. I kinda like the dress on her, though.

    • Richard Harper

I like it. It’s an unlikely success, but I think it works.

    • schadenfreudelicious

I love SJP, but it’s time to admit (as all us longer haired gals at a certain stage must one day do), the overly long do with a centre part is not your friend, you need to break up…also i can see your bra…

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s hard to break out of the comfort zone, but SJP certainly should have the friends to point her in the direction of a hair stylist who could get her to transition to a more flattering do

    • JenR

She looks so relaxed — that’s my favorite part. Never like her so-dark eye makeup, but love the silhouette of the dress.

    • jw_ny

I’ll ignore that this is fall or holiday, and just give her a compliment because this is nice on her. Very pretty! :)

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m pleased to see SJP in a dress that flatters her-it’s damn hard to mess up DVF’s classic wrap dress!

    • saintebeuve

I like it? It’s like She-Ra’s daywear. (So, I guess, Princess Adora’s daywear, if you want to get technical about it.)

    • http://sharialbert.com shazziz

i think it’s Fierce. She looks adult, sophisticated and appropriately lovely!

    • Aidan B

Best she’s looked in a long time. Start making nice with DVF, SJP, because this is a HUGE step forward for you.

    • lalahartma

Not bad, SJP! For once, lol.

    • Pennymac

Wow! This is slightly attractive! And her hair doesn’t look fried. Not my favorite, but a move in the right direction. Now, if she would just step back from the eyeliner!

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

This is the best she’s looked in a while. I just wish she’d cut her hair. It’s so unflattering.

    • crash1212

      Fabulous. Simply fabulous.

    • kim bunchalastnames

you know, the older she gets, the less flattering the black line inside the lower eyelid is; i think that’s true for all of us. in SJP, it’s starting to really make her eyes look tired and tiny. i’d love to see how she looks without it, or with some shadow smudged beneath the lower lashes on the outer corner, and a little bit of highlight at the inner corners. p.s. the dress has a kind of ’60s cocktail vibe going for it, and she still has a pair of killer legs — plus i like that the hem is hitting her just above the knee: it lengthens her look without getting all “sweet young thing.”

    • marlie

Y’know, this isn’t bad. It’s a traditional DVF wrap dress, in a “fancy” fabric. Not for the everyday person/event, but it works, given the venue. And Given SJP’s penchant for going way overboard with accessories, I’m glad that she stuck with simple black pumps, and let the dress itself be the accessory. Her hair isn’t bad, either. Her makeup is always problematic, but dial up the lipstick a notch, and this would be good.

    • The Versatile Chef

::makes my usual remark about the hideous eyeliner::

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

      Is it XMAS already?

    • Libster

Every time we see her, we all note the eyeliner issue. Has anyone seen a pic of her without it? It occurred to me the other day that maybe it’s tattooed on!?!

      • formerlyAnon

I dunno. I’ve known several people have eyeliner tattooed on, and none of them had it done that dark and heavy. So it might be, but if so I’m thinking she adds liner to it. It seems like that would be a rookie mistake that she wouldn’t make.

        • Libster

Yeah, it would be a sign of terrible judgment. It just seems incredible to me that she holds so steadfast to the look, that no one has convinced her to at least change it up every once in a while…

      • Gatto Nero

It’s possible, but the permanent cosmetic artist I know doesn’t ever apply it so heavily. Generally people have it done as a base for a day look, just so their eyes don’t look naked without makeup.

      • xmixiex

i highly doubt an actress would do that.

    • unbornfawn

It looks pretty good for her. Since she went for gold I wish she would have bumped up the lipstick to a red.

    • demidaemon

I almost like this on her, but the dress is clearly too big/low cut if I can see your bra strap.

    • Fuchsiaforever

Gold and sparkly. Makes me nostalgic for Christmas!

    • Tracey Magyar

I think she looks good here. Not trying to hard with the outfit and her hair and face look nice.

    • Trickytrisha

Except for the previously noted visible bra, she definitely is working this look.

    • eight_of_nine

I think she looks really pretty here. She looks comfortable in that dress, not like she’s trying too hard or dressing too cutesy/young.

    • chof1

Sister needs to update her look. How about moving the part, for starters?

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Top half is horrid, bottom half divine, stop shrinking your eyes with a tight black outline!

She could get more impact with a bronze or copper liner, and the effect would be far less “Cool Mom at Avril Lavigne concert.” Think complementary colors, Sarah, not harsh contrast.

    • Dagney

      Step away from the eyeliner.

    • http://www.momforless.com/ Crystal

Wow. I don’t hate it. Huh.

    • Gatto Nero

      The dress is nice.
Now if she would update the hair and eyeliner.

    • nannypoo

I like the dress. When I was a college student living in a dorm we all had hair like hers and we’d often sit around someone’s room and trim each other’s ratty ends. No charge, no skill required. Just sayin’.

    • littlevase

I love this look for her.

    • macwell

Simply put – I love the dress, but the shoes don’t seem special enough – even for ‘non distracting’ black heels. :(

      • Shawn EH

But they are so very special, because they are SJP!

        • macwell

I love SJP, but sorry – not everything she touches turns to gold….:)

      • xmixiex

a dress like that does NOT need ‘special’ shoes. anything more would be totally too much.

        • macwell

The shoes on the model on the DVF runway are not overwhelming and would have looked better than what SJP is wearing. Her shoes are not bad, but I just wish they were better. She looks great regardless.

    • Haley Buchanan

I actually find the dress quite cute. Lady has got to change her hair/makeup/tan routine though. The makeup and tan feel very played out, and the hair is just awful.

    • tonibaloney

It’s an ATTAGIRL for me. Her hair looks good and the outfit is fun, but not too crazy. Her visible bra strap almost ruins the illusion, but still, I’ve got to say that this direction is much improved.

    • mjmiller77

meh. blah. blends with hair that needs some serious help

    • formerlyAnon

She can wear clothes & the DVF wrap dress is genius. She looks good even though that fabric ought to ensure that I hated this.

    • Sweetvegan

      She looks great!

    • Terry

I wish someone would talk her out of that eyeliner.

    • Wink

Love the dress. Time for a slightly shorter hairstyle. The extreme eyeliner is an attempt to draw attention to her eyes and away from the rest of her face.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I think she looks good, but this dress needs fancier hair. I love that the bodice of the dress is different fabric from the skirt, and SJP is wearing something from her own line of shoes

    • KTBSN

Interesting color, texture, drape. Love the pockets just do something with the hair.

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

I like everything but her hair. She really needs to get a new style. This doesn’t do her any favors anymore.

    • Shawn EH

Not doing Carrie for once, just SJP. Those fabrics need no further adornment, so well done! Even the shoes are okay.

    • PeaceBang

I’m going to consider this a shout-out to her old Princess Winifred role. “The swamps of home, are lovely to behold/from far away/from far away-ay-ay.” It’s upscale swampy. But yes, yes, yes to DVF on SJP! They could start a DVFSJPFTW campaign.

    • MartyBellerMask

      I can HEAR that dress.

    • Clash D

The dress is guh but her head is the best I’ve seen on her since 2012.

    • MarissaLG

Pretty. This is what Lena Dunham should have been wearing if she wanted to wear gold.

    • Jacob Bowen

At least her hair, makeup, and shoes are GREAT…but, the dress is a bit cheap looking (DVF does that sometimes for me, and the SJP effect doesn’t help).

    • Jean Beaton Leavitt

She looks great! Finally! Is it possible she let go of Carrie?

    • xmixiex

she looks pretty great. softening the hair just a bit works wonders. i’m confused by the mysterious bit of bra, though. now you see it, now you don’t.

    • poorellensmith

Let’s all ignore that it looks like she got the dress from the Goodwill Bins, and celebrate the fact that she didn’t wear 3 conflicting necklaces!
