Prince Harry Opens the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London

Posted on April 04, 2014

Who’s up for some Grinnin’ Harry at the moment?

Who ISN’T?

Prince Harry officially opens the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Believe us when we say we’re not Royal-obsessed in any way, but we have to admit, he does come off ridiculously charming because he seems to really LOVE being a prince. Which, let’s face it, is the only publicly acceptable attitude to have, really. Charles’ morose, duty-bound prince act never really got the public enamored; except when something about his sex or romantic live spilled out into the public. And we have a feeling the international public’s likely to get very bored with Bill & Kathy soon; mainly because, well, they’re boring. But Harry? Harry acts like he loves every minute of his life and doesn’t seem particularly concerned with looking respectable in pictures. He’s the spitting image of his paternal grandfather, but he’s way more like his mother in that respect than William. It all got to her at times, but Diana really loved the job of being a princess and never cared about respectability in the way her in-laws would have preferred.

Having said all that, Harry, you need to take a hot shower and then work a teaspoon of olive oil into your still-warm damp hair, down to the roots. Do this twice a week. You’ll thank us.

Half the people who read “Harry,” “hot shower,” and “olive oil,” just took off somewhere else in their heads. Let’s leave them be for now.

The photos don’t seem all that staged, which is nice.

I’ve never heard about the olive oil thing.

    • Sobaika

Try it, Russell. For the children!

I’m also a big advocate of coconut oil.

      • Sarah

I like argan oil. My hair is really fine and it doesn’t weigh it down.

        • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

          That. What you said.

      • MilaXX

coconut oil for the win! My locs love it.

      • TropiCarla

Coconut oil is magic. My family still makes their own.

        • RL McGruder

          I’m gonna need that recipe.

        • Latin Buddy

Wait, seriously. Can you post instructions on the coconut oil treatment?

      • raeb23

Agree about the coconut oil…lots of us used it as kids here in trinidad

    • lundibleu

I have, mainly ’cause it’s actually quite good for dry skin too and we had it recommended when our eldest had dry scalp as a baby.

Harry does give good entertainment in photos, and isn’t ashamed of being himself, which is where William sometimes falls down – he takes himself all too seriously while Harry doesn’t. And while it’s a very nice suit, I prefer him in civvies.

      • Constant Reader

I use olive oil on my skin but never tried it on my hair. I’m definitely giving it a whirl!

        • lundibleu

Slight warning though… you may find yourself sniffing your hair and thinking ‘mmm, pizza’! 🙂

          • Lucía Gavello

Damn you… now I want pizza!

  • ChaCha_70

Agree with the Uncles about the hair needing some conditioning. But that pic where he’s on the swing with all the kids surrounding him? Come on! Swoon-worthy!

    • Oh, just because he’s a young good-looking single prince who seems fun and charming and who, in this picture, also seems to be enjoying life, we’re not going to talk about the subpar job on the hemming of his pants or the fact that he’s out in public without a belt? What happened to standards?

      • zeiserl

Absolutely! I thought that especially for a prince, he was a sartorial disaster. Look at the creased lapel and the baggy trousers.

        • demidaemon

His pants look two seconds away from falling down. This may be a good or a bad thing, depending on your perspective.

  • Aidan B

How did you know, Uncles?? This is exactly what I needed today. He really is so goddamn charming.

  • Does that olive oil thing work for girls too? Totally doing it tonight if so.

And yes, uncles, thank you for this. 🙂

    • Sobaika

Yes. With avocado, eggs, maybe done mayo. Coconut oil is also a winner.

      • Evan

I would end up eating everything rather than putting it in my hair.

      • KinoEye

Mayo masks work wonders for me. Though I’m a little afraid to try it now that I’m doing my hair with henna — not sure how it will react with the color, and can’t seem to find any advice online.

        • Sobaika

I’ve never had it mess with henna or a dye job, but maybe try it on a patch at the base of your neck and see how your hair reacts.

    • Gatto Nero

      Olive oil is non-gender-specific.

  • Golfkat

William and Kate have been boring for years. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, all the glitter of the wedding just had people fooled for a while there.

    • marlie

Wills is the serious one, and Harry is the fun one. I like them both, but they’re still sticking to their “roles,” in their own way.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, Wills is the serious one-might be his temperament, his role as the heir, and also he was old enough to be more aware of the tension between his parents before they split up;I think that William was a very young shoulder for his mum to cry on at times.
And yes, I have too many books about Diana and the royals-my guilty pleasure

    • Mismarker

100% agreement. There is so much Diana in him. Can’t wait to see the woman he ends up marrying. She would have to match him on every level and would certainly be a force of nature.

  • Sarah

Oh, I feel ur ginger-fuzzy pain, Harry. I’m working it today, in fact. I just made it EVEN FUZZIER, because I’m off to a friend’s house and I didn’t want to shower, so I figured if you can’t beat it, fluff it. Do you want to come with me, Harry? We could climb jungle gyms and get schnockered. I’m sure my fella wouldn’t mind.

    • KinoEye

Mine is a mane of dark red frizz today. I have tried to tame it with Argan oil to no great effect. On the plus side, it’s also big and fluffy without me doing anything to it, so I’ll give the frizz a pass. Still, damn this humidity.

      • Kitten Mittons

Are we all redheads? How curious.

        • Ginger

Add another redhead to the mix. I’d take the fluff as opposed to the half-wavy wonk I’ve got going on on top of my head.

          • Kitten Mittons

            Gingers unite!
Mine’s half-wavy, too, we’re the best kind! Be proud of your wonk!

        • KinoEye

Haha! We appear to be. Redheads are the best heads, after all! Alicia is also a redhead, I believe?

          • Sarah

Im a lil more blonde really but my texture is that of my sainted ginger moms and i enhance it for jauntiness & sex appeal

          • I’m totally faux – of the Christina Hendricks, Amy Adams, naturally blonde but red looks better, school of redheads.

          • zenobar

To paraphrase Gwen Stefani’s haircolor commercial, I was born a redhead. My hair just didn’t get the memo.

  • hughman

    “What’s up man?”
    “Oh, you.”
    “What the fuck?”
    “What’s that?”
    “You got me, dude.”

  • Allison Angier

I’ll be in my bunk. With my Ojon.

  • The Versatile Chef

“Half the people who read “Harry,” “hot shower,” and “olive oil,” just took off somewhere else in their heads. ”

    ::stares blankly::

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Drops mike and leaves…

  • Emily Giovanni

I have never particularly liked him until this moment.

    • Evan

I started liking him when I found out he chose to see combat in Afghanistan rather than stay away from the front lines like he could have. He didn’t want to be treated differently just because he was a royal.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I started disliking him when he showed up at a costume party dressed as a Nazi. What a tool.

        • Evan

Yeah, but that was so many years ago. He should have known better, but people do stupid stuff when they’re young. I’m part Jewish and I give him a pass. I forgive Galliano too.

          • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Geez, you’re a nicer person than I am. Hmmm…these royals. Sometimes they just get my Irish up, y’know? 😉

      • Mousentrude

Also it always used to be the case in most cultures that the kings, princes etc. led the battles: it was supposed to inspire the armies. I got the sense he was trying to do the same.

  • lrober03

Swap the black shoes for brown and I’d have no problem just sitting and staring at these pictures until I have to leave work

  • Sad Fact: Harry’s watch probably cost more than all the jewelry Kate wears out to events.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

he always looks like this whenever he gets to be around kids.
    love him.

    • Evan

That’s because in some ways he still is a kid lol I’m not sure he ever completely grew up.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Well, maybe because mentally they are all on the same page, lol.

  • nannypoo

He really does have difficult hair. He always seems like he’s be a lot of fun to hang around with.

  • misstressofsylar

I love Harry. He seems to be so full of life and actually has real work ethic, not like older bro who almost lost his wings due to being a no-show most of the time. That pic of him with the kids just made my day.

P.S. I really wish he would get back with Chelsy.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I didn’t know they broke up. I don’t think he is going to get married soon, anyway. Why should he? He’s probably having too much fun being single.

  • MilaXX

Yep he’s got that I’mm way too far down the line to ever inherit the thrown so WTH look.

  • Yes. I will need a moment alone after reading that last sentence…

  • lexilexi

My Mom always used to say “a smile is the international language”. How corny, but how true.

    • Evan

You wanna know what’s even cornier? Katy Perry recorded a song called “International Smile.” Can’t get much cornier than that!

  • Jecca2244

both him and his brother always seems genuinely excited to be around kids. i always thought it comical people said he wasn’t Charles’ son…he looks exactly like his dad’s side of the fam. and William is a spitting image of their paternal great grandpa.

  • Evan

Coming from a fellow ginger, I’m afraid his looks are going the same way that William’s have. It’s a shame because I thought he looked hot a couple of years ago and I was happy to see women and gay men swooning over a ginger.

  • Well done for almost completely obliterating the fact that BoJo was there too – that makes these pictures acceptable.

I remember reading a heartbreaking thing about the boys when they were small, that William was jealous of Harry because “Harry can be a fireman if he wants to”. Bill has been raised with the sense of duty that has almost strangled his father, and Harry has been able to be the dilettante younger son getting up to hi jinx all his life. And it really shows.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Who is BoJo?

      • Mismarker

        Mayor of London.

      • Boris Johnson – blond-haired buffoon and Mayor of London. He was pretty prominently at this event but there is only 1 pic where you can see him here, and then only if you know he is there!

  • KinoEye

Photo 5: “Are you there, God? It’s me, Harry.”

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      A thousand likes. 🙂

  • prisma

Thanks to Michael K of Dlisted, he’ll always be Prince Hot Ginge to me.

  • ScarlettHarlot

The second to last pic looks like that guy is scoping put Harry’s bum, and like Harry is encouraging it. I find all of the royals boring except for this ginger prince.

  • marlie

That last sentence made me laugh out loud.

Harry seems like the one who would genuinely be fun to just hang out with, excluding any poorly-lit semi-clad party photos.

  • NMMagpie

That fourth shot: just another reason to love him.

  • MrsKrause

I just want to make out with him.

  • Harry isn’t encumbered with the duty of one day becoming king. He’s young, handsome, filthy rich, and doesn’t have any real responsibilities bestowed upon him. Jealous!

  • Funnily enough I always think he’s the spitting image of the Queen. He and she have identical close set eyes and smiles (not surprisingly as Prince Charles is morphing into his mother) . The colouring and height he gets from the Spencers (who have been famous redheads for centuries).

    • ALT19

I’ve never noticed his smile, but you’re right, it’s very reminiscent of the Queen.

    • deelup

I don’t think he looks like Philip much at all. In fact I think he’s such a mix that he just looks like himself.

  • Mismarker

Diana would be so proud of her boys. And, yes, that hair is off-the-charts bananas.

  • Noah

Do the royals not get pants that fit?

  • Ashleigh

I thought he was in Antarctica?
    Such a babe with a beard…

    • Prairie

      He almost died down there!file://localhost/Users/oshimafamilyaccount/Desktop/Sick%20and%20exhausted…%20Harry%20reveals%20toll%20of%20Antarctica%20trek%20%7C%20The%20Times.webloc

  • Danielle

HE GOLF CLAPS. Head over heels, folks.

  • Prairie

He was adorable when he rode in the carriage with the small children after Will’s wedding. One of the little girls was frightened and he gave a little squiggly toy to play with. She’s holding it up to the cameras in the official photos. He will be a fantastic dad.

  • suzq

I’m just admiring the first pictures all week of a man who is wearing a suit that fits him properly. Thank you.

  • housefulofboys

My son has Harry’s hair, and it has been a long, thankless task trying to contain it without just keeping it really short (like Harry usually does), so thank you for the olive oil idea! Separately, these pictures were a joy, and that last sentence made me laugh out loud – thanks for that, too!

  • Angela_the_Librarian

A few weeks ago I saw him in a documentary about wounded veterans from the UK, US and Australia walking to the south pole. Beyond the fact that he was doing something nice for a charity (Wounded Warriors project I believe), it also showed that his attractiveness level goes off the charts once he’s had a few days beard growth (and I don’t usually like beards). I’ve been a William gal for so long (we’re only a few months apart in age), but I may need to reconsider Harry…

  • Jacob Bowen

These pictures make me reminisce to the recent “naked billiards” pictures…and how much hotter they could have been. I am SUCH a redhead-aholic!

  • formerlyAnon

I always think that I hope he finds the Right Person when he decides to get married. Part of his charm is this apparent lack of emotional – I don’t know, emotional sophistication? He comes across as a good guy willing to work hard and reluctantly conform to the rules, who takes the day as it comes and is generally inclined to be positive. (The kind of guy who could only dress as well as he does because somebody else thinks it out for him.) The kind of guy who isn’t particularly analytical about the long term odds for how a partner is going to fare in the unusual environment in which they’ll be living.

  • Courtney

He’s got charm to spare and knows when to turn it on. I think the fact that he is the spare works in his favor – he doesn’t have to embrace the “duty bound” parts of being a prince, because the serious duties are never going to really fall to him. He can remain the good-time guy, which suits him nicely.

  • GorgeousThings

“Half the people who read “Harry,” “hot shower,” and “olive oil,” just took off somewhere else in their heads. ”
Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Snort! Oh, you make my day, my dears.
I was thinking as I looked through the pictures, before I got to your comment about his PatGrampa that he really looks like his uncle Edward these days. Goes to figure.

  • Joanne Abrams

He is so cute and you are right on the mark about his relaxed attitude and enjoying life. Let’s hope he can keep his hair, unlike poor William.

  • Danielle

Oh, good. My first opportunity to use “Standing Ovulation” in a sentence!

    • Jessica Freeman

You have made me proud. Two hot Brits in one day. Is like my ovaries ‘sploded or sumfin….

  • majorbedhead

God, he’s just adorable. And he does look like he’s having fun.

  • saintebeuve

So, do you rinse the olive oil out after a few or leave it in?

    • Vtg Fashion Library

I will gladly massage it in. Rinse it out. Towel him off………….oh dear, I need a moment alone……….

    • Wander around the house with your head in a showercap for 10 minutes or so, then shampoo out.

      • saintebeuve

Thanks! I’ve been using a conditioner with argan oil but maybe I’ll give this a try next time.

        • My mum absolutely swears by the Moroccanoil range – have you tried that?

  • lalahartma

Seriously, what is up with that hair?

  • Pennymac

You had me at hot shower and olive oil, for sure, Uncles. How well you know this bitter kitten!

  • elzatelzabelz

You’re right, he seems so charing because he looks like he has fun. Like, “Dude, I am “the spare” and I get all the benefits and none of the pressure-Whoo-live it up!” Love him.

  • Gina Mondzelewski Small

He always looks so…naughty. Mmmmmm mmmmmm good.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Harry also has the great good fortune of being the younger son, so he can more fully enjoy being Prince. He looks delighted to be at that park, and he comes across as a big kid at heart. I’m waiting and watching to see if anything serious comes of he and Cressida- I want another royal wedding.

  • DinahR

Ahhh. Adorbs! I think you phrased this perfectly… both Harry and his mum Diana seem to have this lovely joy about them… ‘enjoys the job’ of being a Prince/Princess is the perfect way to put it! I love me some Kathy, but I think you’re right. She’s very proper and lovely, perfect, respectable at all times… but kinda dull for it.

  • unbornfawn

There’s no doubt he’s the fun one!

  • Zinnaida

Harry is definitely a Windsor in spite of all rumours to the contrary.

    • camsteerie

If, as TLo say, “He’s the spitting image of his paternal grandfather,” then he would look like a Mountbatten. I tend to see him looking more like his mum’s dad and brother, which goes to show it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

If anything comes of Cressida, it will be because he is the younger brother. William would never have allowed to marry someone with such an “unsuitable” name, I’m thinking. It’s an odd life they have to live.

  • TippiH

My girls and I say that if we were a princess, we’d act like one! I mean, you’re a princess, for gods sake…wear a tiara EVERY day. Slap on the royal jewels when you walk the dog, attend EVERY event totally princessed-out because that’s what people want to see. Little girls who wait in line in the cold British air don’t want to see you in a Jenny Packham dress – they want to see you in a gown & crown! Give the people what they want, which is what Harry seems to get.

  • MannahattaMamma

I hope he’s fun because I’m sensing that there isn’t a major brain trust going on under that ginger hair.

  • Just Me

I miss Lumberjack Harry. This Harry is cute and all, but Bearded Harry was HOT!

  • Darogris

    His Royal Adorableness.

  • largishbearishAtlish

Has he lost weight or something? the pants (and jacket a bit) seem a bit loose and baggy… and I agree, he looks like he rather be playing with the kids on the swing set- what a great smile!

  • Fuchsiaforever

You just said the magic words: Harry…hot shower…olive oil…ok good night y’all…

  • CatherineRhodes

His face and hands need moisturizing as well. And what is with the three-sizes-too-big pants? Jeez, your a prince, hire a tailor.

  • Linda Swiontek

He looks a lot like one of my cousins at that age.
