Nicole Kidman in Peter Pilotto on “The Queen Latifah Show”

Posted on April 08, 2014

We don’t often feel sorry for A-list celebrities, but sometimes, when we feature someone looking EPICALLY bad, we secretly hope they’ll turn it out the next time they show up, just to show that one bad look doesn’t mean they’ve completely lost it. It’s gratifying in a way. You want to believe that, like the stars, you can instantly bounce back from a bad picture, bad outfit, or bad hair day.

So attagirl, Nicole:

Nicole Kidman makes an appearance on “The Queen Latifah Show” in Peter Pilotto.

Peter Pilotto Fall 2014 Collection

What a snazzy little dress. We thought it’d look terrible sitting down, what with all the foofaraw around the waist, but it actually looks a little better because you don’t see it that much. Granted, one arm draped over your lap like that is a pretty strong tell that you’re not a hundred percent comfortable in the outfit, but we think it looks pretty fabulous. Not so much on the shoes, though. We love tone-on-tone, but there’s already enough of that in the dress, which has, by our eyes, at least 3, possibly 4 different reds in it.

The Queen’s looking pretty fab herself. Love that whole look on her.

As a lover of red, I am in love with that dress.

    • Glam Dixie

When my legs are crossed my arm is almost always draped over my lap, especially if I am slightly turned towards someone like she is here so I’m not getting discomfort from her pose. Notice Queen L is sitting the exact same way. They both look fab.

    • Nikko Viquiera

Finally, COLORS! That red looks gorgeous on Ms. Nicole. I’m glad to see she’s got her mojo back. Also glad that it looks like she’s stepped back from the botox. And that smile on the Queen’s face make me want to watch her show.

      • jw_ny

Yes…we know spring has arrived when the celebs start wearing the fall collections. ;) j/k
she looks great in red…reds. :)

      • Prairie

Her brow has finally relaxed somewhat.

    • Chartreusite

That is a GORGEOUS dress. Good on her for picking it.

    • tallgirl1204

I dunno, I hear Nina Garcia saying “I think that dress is very well made, but it is a bit too tricky, how there are so many different colors.”

    • jw_ny

1 size up Ms. Kidman, and your chest and arms wouldn’t look (and probably feel) bound, and all the fabric at the waist (that you’re seemingly uncomfortable with) would lay flat. 1 size up!

      • Lulu

I agree, it doesn’t fit her…all wrinkly in the waist whether standing or sitting, too tight in the hip, sleeves are too long. And I guess I am the lone dissenter, I don’t like the dress at all, it is so busy I feel like I’m gonna stroke out.

      • http://www.twitter.com/therunwayqueen TheRunwayQueen

She can’t go one size up in a designer sample. You go for that dress or another look entirely.

    • Danielle

I can’t believe this is Peter Pilotto. Fabulous.

      • Aurora Leigh

Right? I don’t feel like I’m about to have a seizure, which is my normal reaction to Peter Pilotto.

      • sojourneryouth

Truly! This look is literally the only Pilotto that I have ever liked.

      • Kayceed

No kidding. And I thought I had seen every possible color-blocking concept possible over the past five years. But this is fresh and really flattering.

      • demidaemon

Somebody told him enough was enough finally. Or challenged him to make a dress that didn’t use every color in the rainbow.

      • decormaven

After the less than stellar looks posted earlier this day, I braced for another tragic style when I read the headline. What a pleasant surprise! The dress looks good on Nicole, and I always love seeing Queen Latifah. That is one woman who is truly comfortable in her own skin – and it shows!

        • Jackie4g

          Yes, to everything!

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

J’accuse! That shoe choice is inspired and keeps it Spring appropriate. A black, white or red would have put it back to winter and a nude shoe would just make us all complain.

      • suburbanbohemian

Liking the shoes. They appear to match the lighter red color, or at least get near it.

    • Alfred Cox

Just gorgeous. This is a very difficult dress to wear, but Nicole’s pulling it off well. Because she’s Nicole Kidman, bien sur. Queen looks amazing and has for every episode I’ve seen. But, I felt as though standing up, Queen’s look fell a little flat. Sitting down, however, TO DIE FOR.

      • VicD

bwah ha ha. I see what you did there.

    • The Versatile Chef

The Queen has the most gorgeous skin. That’s all I can see when I look at a photo of her. Girl don’t age.

    • sienna elm

She always comes across as such a genuinely lovely person in photos. And I love the dress! and I don’t mind the shoes. As for covering up your lap when your sitting…where else would you put your arm?

    • elemspbee

love the dress. hate the shoes. Queen Latifah rox.

    • MilaXX

I love Queen Latifah’s show and this was the most natural and comfortable I have seen Nicole in a long time. Nice, easy conversation and some genuine laughs coming from her throughout.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

It must be in the realm of statistical error that Pilotto designed a dress that doesn’t make me flinch. It’s pretty good, and Nicole is making it work well.

    • marlie

Nic looks gorgeous. I have some serious dress envy. The shoes don’t bother me. Her hair and makeup are pretty, and I think I love the earrings, too. Latifah looks great, even if I don’t really love the look.

    • majorbedhead

Is Queen Latifah EVER going to age? I swear, she’s looked the same for the last 10 or 15 years. I’m green with envy.

Nic looks good. I don’t like the dress when she’s standing, but it looks nice when she’s seated. Re: the hand in her lap: maybe her mother taught her to do that. Mine did. Lots of hissed “Stop touching things and put your hands in your lap, young lady.”

    • VicD

That is the first Peter Pilotto that I have ever liked. And I love it.

    • hughman

I’m sure that dress is just squeezing all the Princess Grace right out of her.

    • Mothra

I say yes to the dress and noooooo to the shoes and always All Hail to The Queen. I love her to pieces.

    • Jacob Bowen

There’s the real Nicole! That last photo shoot was her stunt double (15 years younger than her), so it was nice to see her regularly regal self!

    • NMMagpie

The shoes are better than the ones on the model. So, there’s that.

      • Sarah

OOh, yeah. The leopard print velcro ankle brace pump is straight up heinous.

        • NMMagpie

I would love to see that description in a catalog, though. :)

    • icm

They both look great, Did they coordinate the set to Nicoles dress, Everything works ,the lamp ,the flowers ,the toss cushions, even the coffee mugs.It all goes very well with her.

      • MilaXX

Big Sexy, as she calls her set was designed by Lenny Kravitz. He has a design company that apparently is doing pretty well.

    • formerlyAnon

That IS a snazzy little dress. But Queen Latifah just draws my eye. No snazzy little dress can compare with her radiance.

      • zenobar

Radiance is precisely the word for her. That smile is gorgeous beyond compare!

        • Kitten Mittons

I thought Nicole looked great, but I stopped looking at her as soon as I saw Queen Latifah and her smile. I like the blouse as well, especially in this setting. Frames her face well.

      • Jessica Goldstein

I frequently think Queen Latifah is one of the best dressed and best looking woman at an event. She’s beautiful, has a fantastic smile, and knows what works on her.

      • jay

I have such a crush on her. She just always looks so happy and comfortable.

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

        She sits with such poise!

    • French_Swede

“Foofaraw” just became my favorite new word.

    • CatherineRhodes

Nic, you are a beautiful woman, give the injectibles a rest. Your face looks so fake.

      • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Remember how gorgeous she looked pregnant?

    • Gloriana Reginata

Queen Latifah is all of two years younger than Nicole Kidman – but you wouldn’t guess it from these photos, although Nicole’s figure is gorgeous and is wonderfully displayed by that dress. Such a shame she hasn’t just allowed herself to age gracefully: she has a bone structure that would shine out through a few wrinkles.

    • macwell

I actually as this yesterday, and although I liked it – that hair nest…? :(

    • antonialee

The Queen looks fab, but Nicole’s dress is pure fug, she looks like she is dressed in red Ace bandages.

    • Sally

If only Nicole’s forehead moved. Sigh. Pretty dress and she looks fab in it.

    • ellisd123

Her face is in Joan Rivers territory, and it is killing all of it for me. Please Stop, Nicole.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

The dress looks good sitting down because Ms. Kidman has ramrod straight posture, and god bless her for it. Instant poise and glamour. The fabulous dress helps too though.

    • makeityourself

Such lovely posture — both of them.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Blue shoes, or even chartreuse if she was feeling wild, would have been the perfect grace note for this look.

    • flamingoNW

LOVE that dress. WANT Queen’s blouse…

    • MM4321

The dress is good but it’s too much for appearing on that show – might work better for one of the nighttime talk shows. A more casual look, like Latifah’s, would work better.

    • DeTrop

I watched the show and honestly, I hated this dress. It looked like she was wrapped or strapped into it. Pilotto is in Stella McCartney territory for me.

    • PeaceBang

That dress is fabulous but Nicole’s head and face *completely* disappear in it.

    • MannahattaMamma

The Queen is the queen, always. And beautiful in herself. Nicole is looking at her as if she’s thinking “oh, is that how you be comfortable in your own skin?” That dress looks “nighttime” to me, not “morning talk show.” RELAX, Nicole.

    • CT14

A Pilotto that isn’t hideous. Will wonders never cease?

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I think the hands in the lap are trying to keep the split closed – it’s opening way too high for a sit-down interview!

This is an unexpectedly pretty Peter Pilotto.

      • Amel

Yeah this is the least tricky Peter Pilotto I’ve seen, like, ever

    • John11581

Love that dress, but I’m fixated on the Queen here. Looking so comfortable and confident. No bells and whistles required. So refreshing!

    • sweetlilvoice

I’ve seen the Queen’s show a few times at my nail salon and it’s pretty good. She’s charming and beautiful.

    • Cee Layton

I love that dress! One of those perfect anywhere dresses for the masses. I could see this at a nice office, drinks or a dinner date. It helps to be a lizard with boobs, tho. You can’t be diminutive in a dress like that.

    • Tanya Wade

The Queen rarely puts a step wrong – I watch the show sometimes just to see what she’s wearing. Girl always turns it out.
As for Nicole, at least she looks a litlte more like HERSELF. I’m not a huge Pilotto fan, but it’s working on her.

    • Denise Rambo

Where SHOULD she have put that arm?

    • heartbot

That color looks fantastic on Nicole. Queen Latifah looks gorgeous as well. Beautiful, bright, and well-executed all around.

    • Cathy S

      I want Latifah’s shirt. Now.

    • suzq

A Peter Pilotto that I can live with! Who’d a thunk it? Not me!

      • MaggieMae

Right? Is the world coming to an end?

    • ashtangajunkie

      Latifah is such a goddess.

    • TRSTL

Shocking how much I like this PP dress on her, Nicole looks great. But…. Queen is KILLING it in this breezy tunic. She is so seriously beautiful…..

    • Gatto Nero

That’s a lotta dress, but her height helps carry it. Would never have guessed that this is Pilotto.
      They both look fabulous.

    • AmeliaEve

Apparently the secret to Peter Pilotto is finding a dress that only uses solid color fabrics.

But The Queen looks like she is about to sell me some Avon products. That’s an oddly suburban look for her.

      • MilaXX

She tends to wear relaxed looks on her talk show. I like it and the laid back vibe she gives off.

    • Joanna

Nicole is looking more her age than she has in a long while, and I truly mean that as a compliment – her face is looking a bit more relaxed (still botoxed to the max, but not like she just got out of the plastic surgeon’s chair). I think the dress is amazing.

    • traceyishere

      Boob jail.

    • webslice33

      she looks great!

    • Imasewsure

That’s a whole lotta dress for daytime TV. The Queen looks amazing as usual though!

    • Stella Zawistowski

Peter Pilotto designed a dress without overdesigning it.

I think my heart just stopped.

    • Comfy

It’s too small but I do like the colors.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

Not loving the mid section…fit or illusion of shapes… Sleeves WAAY too long!

    • Sunraya

Nicole looks good, her face can move! And Queen Latifah – I adore her! She is tall, too!!

    • MissusBee

It’s a good example of how to do sexy without trying too hard. The dress is red, curve-hugging and with a slit, ergo sexy. But the colors make it playful, and the demure neckline is chic and ladylike.

    • plkweg

The dress suits her; the color says “look at me” and the crisscross says “but don’t touch”, at once arresting and remote. The Queen is gorgeous.

    • alliekat9090

I hate it. She looks stork-ish and waxen. Queen is outshining her on every level.

    • Nick Pilgrim

Am I the only one who think they should trade outfits?
