Marie Claire May 2014 ‘New Leading Ladies’ Issue

Posted on April 10, 2014

We’d say all of these ladies brought their face-giving A game here, but let’s face it: there’s a clear winner.

Lupita Nyong’o

Elle Fanning

Elisabeth Olsen

Kate Mara

Emilia Clarke

Miss Lupita’s once again in a class all her own. The funny thing is, even though we like all these shots, we pretty much hate what they’re all wearing. We can see why they’d pick that outdoor medium shot of Lupita, instead of the glamour shots of Elizabeth, Kate and Elle, but we can’t understand why they’d go for the flat, Terry Richardson-style Polaroid lighting for Emilia. She looks good – because you pretty much can’t take a bad picture of her, but it’s the worst of the lot because of that choice.

Good lord, it takes serious effort to make Emilia Clarke look less than beautiful and yet they managed it. Whatever the opposite of bravo is Marie Claire. Lupita is killing it in spite of the awful lace swathed pink prom dress they put her in. Such is the power of Lupita.

      • demidaemon

It’s true. To be fair, from what we can see, she had the best outfit of the bunch. Not a good outfit, but the best of these options. Kate Mara’s was so bad they wouldn’t even do a full photograph of the thing, obviously.

      • kimmeister

Lupita is the only one featured on this site in that line of dresses who didn’t end up looking like she had a cylinder for a torso.

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I think the opposite of “bravo” might be “peccato”……technically it means “a sin” but Italians use it as an all-purpose put-down. Ideally it is accompanied by large & demonstrative hand gestures for full impact.

      • sundaynightaddict

I think Emilia looks oddly muppet-like in that shot. I’m not even sure what that means, but it was my first impression. They punted that one, I think.

      • Pablo Ulloa

agree with the guys, sure, Lupita looks amazing, a clear winner… buuuut… her dress was the best, the background is also great, and even i would say that the editing in her picture is better :/

      • https://twitter.com/actual_grownup aly

Yeah, Emilia’s cover looks homemade, like a “design-your-own” cover that you did with a photo of your friend.

        • tereliz

Her face isn’t even in focus, but it’s not because the whole image is soft, it’s that the focus is around her waist somewhere. Did they choose this cover pic from a thumbnail? Yikes.

    • lexilexi

The way Emilia’s head popped at out me actually startled me. It seems like they just plopped it onto a photo of a body. BAD.
In addition to Lupita, I think Elle looks pretty cute.

      • heartbot

        I didn’t even recognize her.

        • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

          I didnt recognise her either!

      • lamamu

Elle actually gives Lupita a run for her money. Stunning.

        • jtabz

Agreed. Elle is absolutely arresting on that cover.

    • Sabrina Stern

Anyone else notice the tagline is “Sexy Style Now” for everyone but Elle, for whom it is “Spring Style Now”? Shouldn’t Lupita be Spring as well considering that dress is more sweet than sexy, and really Spring Style is a better descriptor for almost everyone.

      • Ginger

I would assume that they changed it to Spring for Elle because she’s still a young teenager and labeling that issue as Sexy Spring Style would be inappropriate. Lupita is several years older than Elle, therefore making it more appropriate. Those are just my 2 cents though.

      • alyce1213

Sexy sells — the word appears every month on just about every magazine cover, so that’s why. But I think they exhibited very good taste and restraint using “Spring Style” for the 16-year-old Elle.

      • Courtenay P

Maybe because Elle is under 18?

    • desertsweetpea

      Die Trapper Keeper dress, die.

      • Stella Zawistowski

        YES, THIS.

It is to Lupita’s credit that one doesn’t really notice how ridiculous the dress is because she’s so luminous. But whatever starlet wore that stupid thing in public last — I can’t remember who — just looked silly.

        • Sarah

          Naomi Watts. Awful.

      • Lucía Gavello

THIS. I mean, really editors? It’s VELCRO.

    • alyce1213

Why on earth did they put Lupita in that hideous, cheap-looking dress? Otherwise, it’s a wonderful cover, very natural and actually “fresh,” which sets it apart.
Elle’s, Elizabeth’s and Mara’s covers are pretty good, too.
Emilia Clarke’s is just awful, there’s no excuse for that from a professional photographer.

      • Gatto Nero

I agree with all of this.
Wondering, though, whether they were going for a spontaneous “selfie” vibe with Emilia? (Or maybe I’m being generous.)

        • alyce1213

Could be — that they were going for something more “raw,” like a selfie. But it really doesn’t work for a cover, unless you go ALL the way, for real shock value.

        • Janet B

Poor Emilia, I’m pretty sure my teen took better ‘selfies’ of us in the car yesterday.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

And the ladies’ (excluding Lupita) hair looks awful!!! The roots, the color, BLECH!!!

    • Jecca2244

Emilia Clarke looks all head! Poor girl. awful angle. MC is delivering it with the covers though. so unsure as to why other “top ranking” national mags haven’t put half these women on their cover

    • oh_dear_oh_dear

Lupita’s face is so obviously cut & pasted in from a different photo, it’s ruining the shot for me.

Emilia’s shot looks like leftovers from an American Apparel campaign.

      • alyce1213

??? I’m fairly certain Lupita’s face was not photoshopped from another picture. I can’t see it at all, it looks bona fide to me.

        • oh_dear_oh_dear

Really? The shadows look all wrong to me, it makes her look oddly flat.

          • Lower L

Now that you mention it, I see what you’re saying, but I wonder if the reason is that they ‘shopped the skin on her face to remove the pores (because pores are a hideous deformity, right?) and did not do the same to her neck and shoulders.

          • alyce1213

I had to come back, because your comment made me think of something I saw the other day online. I’m sending the link, because it’s so funny — the original photoshop! Hope it gets through moderation:
            http://www.retronaut.com/2014/02/ladies-fashion-jordan-marsh-company/

Still, I think the lighting on Lupita’s right side is consistent, and maybe they photoshopped just her cheek ;-)

            • Sarah

Hahaha those are so creepy! Pasted on heads! I especially like the ones with the Dr. Evil pinky-on-lower-lip pose.

            • alyce1213

              Yes, it’s very coy.

            • oh_dear_oh_dear

You and @LowerL are right — it definitely could just be excessive blur. And thanks for the link — hilarious!

            • tereliz

To smooth out pores in Adobe Camera Raw, you pull back on the clarity slider, which creates a blur. I think there’s been a major contrast bump as well. (I was at Photoshop World last week so now I know ALL THE SECRETS but I’m only just now getting around to commenting on last week’s posts :P )

    • Anna

Gah, I CANNOT with that stupid band-aid/velcro strap dress AGAIN. Not even on Lupita.

It hurts me with every heartbeat to say that I hate what she’s wearing, but I’ve hated it every other time I’ve seen it and even she can’t get me to change my mind. HELL TO THE YES though regarding the hair/face/smile/everything else.

Emilia’s cover isn’t bad, per se, but she’s a hell of a lot more gorgeous than how they’ve made her look here, for shame. The others look good, I’m just lukewarm to indifferent towards them.

      • Jacob Bowen

I KNOW RIGHT?!?!? THE VELCRO DRESS AGAIN!?!?!?

        • Anna

UGH. To the power of infinity.

I like to google these things and according to the Moda Operandi site: this dress has “concealed velcro fastenings,” and if you like wearing rubber and polyester with your silk, could be a wonderful addition to any Bitter Kitten’s wardrobe for a cool $3,460.

          • Kitten Mittons

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

          • alyce1213

I’m not convinced there’s any silk. Looks like all cheap poly to me.

            • Anna

I agree with you. They’re claiming “100% silk with 60% rubber/40% polyester.” I don’t know whether to laugh or sob hysterically. Maybe a bit of both.

            • Sarah

Ah, yes, rubber. The key element of any well-turned-out woman’s wardrobe.

            • Anna

Who needs a garment district when you can just go to an auto repair shop or a hardware store?

            • demidaemon

So, you mean we should all make our clothes like we are in the PR unconventional challenge?

            • Anna

Christopher Kane somehow successfully managed to make a whole collection out of it. In addition to the dresses, the Moda Operandi trunk show also included vests, tops and an obi-belt looking thing made with the same artisanal craftsmanship.

            • demidaemon

I’m trying to remember Kane’s aesthetic. One needs to know. Moda Operandi sounds a lot more approachable and wearable, fashion wise.

But I cannot deny your correctness in all this, even if I, at first, flinch at it.

            • Anna

I don’t know much about Mr. Kane either, but he apparently is known for his use of rubber and pairing of “strange materials and references,” according to Vogue.

Ooops, sorry for not being clear. Moda Operandi is a luxury web site where they have online trunk shows and you can pre-order collections off the runway (my go-to for when I want “how much does THAT cost?!?” answered). I looked up this particular dress from the Christopher Kane collection on their site, and that’s where I noticed the other velcro items.

            • demidaemon

Now I remember him. He’s the guy with the tie-dyed hair who is friends with Kelly O., right? In other, words, someone who should not be allowed to design until he gets his own situation in order.

In other words, if it is who I am thinking of, I’m pretty sure he is my top ten of “Designers Whose Clothes No Woman Should Ever Wear.”

            • Sarah

I like that. “Your design card is revoked until you get your own…situation in order, sir. Good day.”

            • demidaemon

Right. But, think of how many we would have to print and hand out. The good thing about it is we would get Bitter Kitten Design Police uniforms that are flattering, colorful, and well-made by a designer preselcted for his ability to dress all bodies well. Probably Tadashi Shoji.

            • Anna

Hmmm…not sure of the Kelly O connection, but judging from what I’ve seen, he has definitely earned his rightful place in that category.

            • demidaemon

I’m pretty sure I saw them together at one of his fashion shows, and they seemed very friendly. In pictures and/or video, obviously. :)

            • demidaemon

              Depends on your occupation. ;)

            • Sarah

Oh my, yes. I would hate to insult any stylish dominatrices or female fly fishing enthusiasts out there!

            • demidaemon

To be fair, there is an at least 80% chance they would pass on this, too. But they appreciate your recognizance of their contributions to style and fashion. ;)

            • kimmeister

Also, people who work in sanitation, and firemen!

            • Kitten Mittons

              Because Math :’(

          • demidaemon

HAHAHAHA! You’re joking on the price, right? RIGHT?

*goes and sobs loudly in the corner about what is wrong with fashion and pricing*

      • Danielle

I had the same thought. We should be taken out back and flogged.

      • Janet B

        How did I miss that’s it’s a Velcro Dress?

        • Anna

Whoever styled the shoot must’ve taken great care to line up all the straps. I remember there was a Naomi Watts post during awards season where she wore a variation of this dress and from the back, it’s most definitely and glaringly velcro.

          • marlie

She must have had one of her sex-in-the-limo sessions, and Liev wasn’t able to realign the straps correctly. Because that shiz was awful.

            • demidaemon

Truly, it is not a canoodling dress by any means. Too difficult to get off and too difficult to put back on if necessary.

            • Anna

Ha! See, I think the ripping the velcro off would be the easy part. But the re-aligning would be more difficult.

            • demidaemon

Hmm, maybe. But what if she used double-sided tape to make sure the bodice stayed up?

            • Anna

That’s fair. And perhaps a bit off topic, but can I just say how hilarious it is to be discussing the ease of accessibility of designer dresses for limo sex. You BK’s are too funny!

            • demidaemon

It is a key design feature that deserves to be discussed. After all, if it is easy to remove for sexy times, then, therefore, it should also be easy to remove for less sexy times. A two-for-one design feature if you will.

            • Anna

Hahahaha. I have a hilarious mental image of Liev trying to help her and going, “Well, it was easy enough ripping the velcro off…”

            • julnyes

Ah, Naomi and Liev and their limo hijinks….

      • ryenerman

I didn’t even realize it was that god forsaken nightmare again. Now I hate it all the more.

        • Anna

“God forsaken nightmare,” YES, that is exactly what every variation of this dress is.

    • Nathan

They put Lupita in the velcro dress, and she STILL looks great. Now that’s a feat.

    • chris garcia

Lupita deserves all the magazine covers/ make up contracts in the world because of her stunning beauty, but it’s almost like her inclusion here pre-empts any critique of the fact that the four other leading ladies are all white blonde women. It’s like a sea of vanilla.

      • Jennifer L.

Very, very true. Sort of like the critiques of Mad Men (not that I don’t watch the show) that point out how the little they’ve done with Dawn is provided as a glossed-over counterpoint to the whiteness on display in the rest of the show, hiding the real racial turmoil that was going on in that era.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

I was seeing fresh faces until I got to Elizabeth Olson’s boobs. And I didn’t even recognize Emilia Clark – I thought someone’s high school candid shot for the yearbook made it in.

      • Sarah

What, you don’t enjoy a bejeweled strappy piece instead of a shirt? It’s so minimalist and eleganza. (Not.)

        • TrixieConQueso

Are you talking about the BELT FOR A SHIRT that Elizabeth Olsen is wearing? WTF? Is is just an attachment for the jacket? Please DO NOT tell me Belt Shirts are going to be a thing. Who do we call to stop this?

          • Sarah

Yeah it does look like it might be some sort of tie for the jacket, but still. It is bringing to mind a skeevy look on my dad’s face when he saw Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time” video for the first time.

          • Anna

I spent probably an inappropriate amount of time looking at Elizabeth Olsen’s chest trying to figure out what that was, and if it was connected to the jacket and meant to be tied or if it was a separate piece they tied around her.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Call me old fashioned, but if there’s going to be something bejeweled between someone’s breasts, it better go big or go home. Otherwise it looks like you got drunk at a Claire’s.

    • Courtenay P

They got 3 out of 4 from the Spring 2014 Miu Miu campaign.

    • Gatto Nero

Lupita — the light on her skin. [*gasp*]

    • RussellH88

The fact that Lupita is a fan of Final Fantasy VIII only cements her as being the greatest person in the world.

    • Sarah

I heart Kate Mara’s ear jewels.

      • alyce1213

        Fun!

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I love how in miss Fanning’s cover says “flip this issue for more Elle”.

    • SummerSquash

Is Emilia Clarke auditioning for a remake of Fiona Apple’s Criminal video?

    • decormaven

The photo styling for Emilia is a needle scratch, and that’s a shame. The Velcro strap dress lives to see another day- but only Lupita could sell it like that.

    • Chaiaiai

Please starlets, the rest of you can all just go home. There is but ONE star in that group.

    • DLJoe

Lupita’s face looks great. But it looks like she’s wearing a radiant mask of herself.

    • crash1212

Lupita FTW – obviously, but the second runner up to me is Elle Fanning – some makeup artist finally figured out what to do with her porcelain coloring, and thus, it’s the best she’s ever looked.

    • demidaemon

Clearly, Lupita was the big catch and these other ladies were lesser nominees, because Lupita has the best lighting, best photo, and best outfit (of a pile of dreck mind you, but still). I can’t even evealuate Emilia’s picture objectively because her wardrobe is so hideous.

      • Kitten Mittons

Truly hideous clothing all around. The flowers on Elle’s shoulder strap were taken right off the basket of the pink banana seat bike I got when I was 6.

        • Sarah

Yes! I knew they reminded me of something, but I couldn’t recall. Totally bike flowers.

        • demidaemon

I didn’t know it was possible to sell your old stuff to be re-purposed by batshit crazy fashion designers. Can you tell me how to get into that business?

          • Kitten Mittons

I wish. They took them without asking, along with my mom’s favorite tablecloth to make the rest of the dress.

            • demidaemon

THOSE THIEVES! Well, we better amp up the snark then, to protest the desecration of these valued materials.

            • Kitten Mittons

If for no other reason, then to stand up for my poor mother. My MOTHER, kittens. Easter dinner will never be the same.

              *turns snark up to 11*

Honest question: Did Kate Mara cover herself in bridal shower mints, or is her chest molding?

            • demidaemon

Those are either bridal shower mints or leaves made from cupcake icing.

    • AmeliaEve

I can see why they wanted to include Lupita’s arms and shoulders in the shot — they are stunning. I would like to see her standing next to Michelle Obama for a gun duel.

    • Tricia Rose

Why did they even make the other four? They should have just made Lupita the cover with a flap of the other four… if you even needed them. Not one of the four have wowed me on the screen or in these photos. Lupita for the LIFE WIN!

    • Guest

I can at least respect that they put SPRING STYLE over Elle Fanning rather than SEXY STYLE

    • butterflysunita

Yes….I wouldn’t look twice at any of the other covers even though the women are beautiful. The Lupita cover really caught my eye though. Partly because she’s so strikingly beautiful and photogenic–but also because it’s still sadly so rare to see a woman of color, especially a dark-skinned one, on the cover of a major women’s magazine. I just wanted to keep looking at the Lupita cover because I felt I was seeing something so fresh and captivating.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

and I hate that dress they stuffed my Lupita in, and she still looks amazing.

    • http://sleepingfoxstitchery.weebly.com CLoverleaf

I don’t ever want to see that velcro strap dress again. But Lipita still looks gorgeous.

      • wisdomy

My very first thought, even before “Good lord she’s gorgeous” was “Oh my god that effing dress again!!! WHY does that dress keep happening?”

    • ashtangajunkie

I’d be more likely to buy the magazine if the cover read: “Here’s Lupita! And how to get her incredible arms.”

      • Erica

“With minimal personal effort.” I want her arms, but I don’t want to put in the work, I’m afraid.

      • Anna

Lupita should just have her own magazine, full stop. Like Oprah.

    • NMMagpie

Too bad these fresh faces were not dressed in some fresh style. Lupita FTW.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Lupita for the win. However, I will say that Marie Claire really dropped the ball on the other covers. The other ladies look awful, and not just compared to Lupita; their photos are terrible. Who signed off on them? Well, anyway, Lupita looks great, as usual. And very happy. :)

    • marlie

Lupita wins this one, and in one of those weird bandage/chest binding dresses that I’m don’t really like. Elle looks pretty, because she’s a really beautiful girl, but she never seems to mix up her expression at all. I thought Elizabeth looked like Kate Bekinsale for a moment. I don’t know if it’s the makeup or the ‘shopping, but I’m not crazy with the way her picture turned out. And Emilia’s picture makes me sad. She’s a gorgeous woman but her picture looks like it was taken at a frat party.

I forgot about Kate Mara. I’m not ok with her until she fixes that horrible fried, hacked-off hair and bad dye-job.

    • kimmeister

I love the way the light catches the eye color for the Elle, Elizabeth, and Kate covers. I just noticed that Kate is wearing that weird dress that Jennifer Connelly had on the other day.

      • Sarah

Oh, thank you! I recognized it right away, but I thought it was Anne Hathaway. I was looking through the AH archive to see where it was, but I couldn’t find it. It was a different pretty brunette lady! I like it better as a little bit and not the whole thing, actually.

    • amf0001

I think they were stacking the deck against Emilia, that’s a really dreadful photo!

    • msdamselfly

Dont really like that squished chest look from the bodice of Lupita’s dress. Also, I really like the naturalism of Emilia’s photo

    • jilly_d

Apparently, fried hair is the new Thing.

      • anyalama

Oh thank god. I can just wash and go now!

    • MilaXX

Emilia’s is awful, Lupita of course is my fav. Kate is pretty nice as well.

    • mitch45

I actually think Elisabeth won this one! Shes got a warmth that im not feeling with the others – But yes they do all look amazing.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I must confess to huge love for Kate Mara’s star earring cuffs.

    • sundaynightaddict

I have to say that I love the fact that Kate Mara still looks like a real person and that they didn’t photoshop her into unrecognizable oblivion, but she still looks polished. Nice change of pace.

      • alyce1213

I really love Kate on her cover, she’s giving GREAT face. My only quibble is her hair, which looks fried. (And the dress, which is not her fault.)

    • Greg

Elle Fanning is so much better than Lupita, who I think is third after both Elle and Elizabeth.

    • Qitkat

The video on the MC website is cute and fun, even as it’s totally fake and stylized. Lizzie Olsen washing dishes with an “everyone wants to do me” look on her face! I enjoyed the interviews too. This is certainly a group of very talented and beautiful young women. Here, the styling and lighting of Elle’s face is so much more fresh and lively, dare I say natural looking, than the full shot of her posing in yesterday’s post.

      • alyce1213

I watched the video and it really is a cute piece. They all look wonderful in it, and I appreciate them in motion. The dress Lupita’s wearing in picture with the article (black & white, orange scarf/collar) is stunning on her, unbelievable!

        • Qitkat

Oh my lord, I just love that dress to pieces! She took my breath away in it.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I like all of the cover shots, with the exception of Emilia Clarke, who was very poorly served by MC. Lupita always has a glow.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

So unfair to everyone who isn’t Lupita. Poor Elizabeth always looks baffled to me.

      • Linzenberg

My immediate response to Elisabeth was an instinctual, “Don’t cry, honey! No, no, sweetie, I’m sorry; I didn’t MEAN what I said!” She just looks like you just inadvertently insulted her really horrible (but very well-intended) macrame plant holder.

      Hello there Chicago bitter kittens!

      • CeeQ

Hello! I’m right in front of you! LOL

        • amanda lynn

          w00!

Bitter Kittens and Unborn Fawns in the house… er…. bookstore!

      • semirose

Why hello there! Signed; two rows back and across the “aisle”

    • snarkykitten

Emilia Clarke got the short end of the stick. Why did they go for the Terry Richardson style look for her? She looks so washed out, like a passport photo from the 90s

    • John11581

Good grief! Kate Mara’s dress looks like it came from the Tonya Harding collection.

      • Kitten Mittons

I just watched ESPN’s “30 for 30″ episode on that whole debacle. I remember it all, but it was still interesting, especially to hear Harding’s side now. That broken lace at the Olympics…..I will never forget the DRAMA of that moment, on top of everything else leading up to it.

        • John11581

I haven’t seen that episode yet, but I have it on my Netflix list. Before the closing ceremonies of this year’s Olympics, NBC did an hour long special about the whole Harding/Kerrigan rivalry that was excellent. It’s hard to believe it was so long ago because, I remember it like it was yesterday. The metal pipe to the knees, the broken lace, Kerrigan not realizing her microphone was on and could be overheard complaining about how corny her appearance in the Disney parade was while sitting next to that poor SOB in the Mickey Mouse costume during the parade! Good times!

          • Kitten Mittons

And then Oksana Baiul won! The bitterness on that podium……the original “not impressed” meme.

    • Shawn EH

Good lord can Lupita even work that band-aid dress nightmare? Respect!

    • Candigirl1968

These clothes are awful. Some (but not all) of the shots are great, but they just seem like 4 random covers, rather than a set.

    • In_Stitches

I like Emilia’s. Sure, she’s a, to steal a Tyra-ism, no neck monster, but it feels like a real moment instead of a ‘fashion’ moment. There’s something emotional and real about it. Lupita is killing it as well. The other three I’d be kinder on if they weren’t back to back, showing how kind of sterile and repetitive these fashion portraits can be.

    • quiltrx

The Richardson-ism of Emilia’s looks SO cheap. She got ripped off.
Speaking of ripped off…are those damned Velcro-strap dresses STILL making the rounds?

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Emilia’s looks like a Nylon cover, so maybe that was the idea?

    • Lilithcat

The three in the middle all look exactly alike.

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Did they really have to make Emilia look as generic and boring as the random Fanning, the other Olsen, and not-Audreybot? Oh, well. At least Lupita is fabulous as sin. I wish I was half so lovely.

    • Heather

What is with the stoned, staring into space expressions?

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Ooooo. The Khaleesi can’t be pleased about this one.

    • Gloriana Reginata

Of them all, the one that stands out for me is Elle Fanning. Because Lupita? We expect great things, and we’ve seen many more stunning shots of her (the last one posted onTLo, for instance). But Elle has rarely looked this good: I’m particularly impressed by the way they’ve taken the emphasis away from her (overly) blonde hair and moved it to those lovely eyes. Many sympathies to Kate Mara, having to wear that dress.

    • YoungSally

Damn it’s that velcro dress again!! Die dress DIE!!

    • bellai

I get that Lupita (she is EVERYTHING) was maybe going for an up-do but, I’m sorry, the extra hair looks like…um, how do I say this delicately?
      Drapes, carpet.

    • understateddiva

What’s new for Spring? Tacky, over-designed crap!

    • DesertDweller79

Ugh, that horrid velcro dress again! And it costs around $3,500 according to one of the earlier posts here! Unreal. Not even Lupita can make that look passable. Though, she looks beautiful. Like the photo of Elle Fanning. The others are meh.

    • Courtney Zanetti

I think it’s both interesting and kind of beautiful that in spring, the time of beginnings, they feature three women who were once “The other sister” and are now shining stars in their own right!

    • Julia

Yes, I agree…Lupita’s dress is for the birds and her head has been either pasted on of her jawline severely Photoshopped. The dress colors are great on her but, really, it’s crap. Elle & Elizabeth look great and I actually think Elle’s is the best cover. Emilia’s pic is supposed to be casual, chic and fun, but is just weird. Kate Mara usually has a severe look but her cover is nice.
