Lena Dunham in Marc Jacobs at the 2014 Point Honors New York Gala

Posted on April 08, 2014

Darlings we’re jet-lagged and struggling to get our internal clocks calibrated to L.A. time so we can be our normal (not really) perky selves for our signing tonight at the Grove. That’s partially an apology for dragging our feet and partially a setup so you can understand just why T & Lo, both at the same time, in their darkened pre-dawn West Hollywood hotel room muttered “What the hell, Lena Dunham?”

Honoree Lena Dunham attends the Point Honors New York gala at New York Public Library in New York City in Marc Jacobs.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 Collection

Honestly? It’s not that bad on her. In fact, it’s not really “bad” on her at all. But it just doesn’t look at all like her style and we think her facial expression really tells the tale here. “I got talked into this one.”

It fits her well  – admirably, in fact, since this is a ridiculously tough type of dress for almost any gal to pull off – but we’d never think of putting her in a body-con metallic gown when she seems to love dressing up like a pants-less toddler most of the time. It’s possible we’re just having trouble adjusting to the paradigm shift of Lena Dunham suddenly pulling a Cher on us. We suppose we should applaud both her and Marc Jacobs for the surprise. Personally, we don’t think it really suits her. We like seeing her trying to sashay down the glam side of the street for once, and we encourage her to keep doing so, but we don’t think this is quite the dress for her.

And the shoes are awful with it.

  • I was expecting so much worse from the title. If she made an attempt with the hair, or some bolder accessories it might have even been “okay”.

    • Totally agree. It’s like why would you go with naked face and half-ass hair in a beautiful sparkly dress?!

      • MilaXX

daytime makeup and shoes, with a nighttime dress

    • elzatelzabelz

“If she made an attempt with…” could go on her red carpet tombstone. She has all these gorgeous clothes to choose from and she does nothing with any of them. It is maddening; like it or not, it is part of your job. Woman up, get dressed, stand tall, and smile.

  • RussellH88

Her face kind of ruins any effect this dress could have.

This needs a “Bam! Here I am, bitches.” expression to really sell it.

But her face is all “I shouldn’t have gone to Chipotle before putting this dress on”

    • Tracy M

Her face is ALWAYS “I shouldn’t have gone to Chipotle before putting this dress on”. Girl seldom looks happy- not in the Kristen Stewart way, but in the “What the hell is happening here?” way.

  • Sarah

I see what y’all mean about it not being really “her” but I think the main problem here is that her headsuit doesn’t match the rest of her. Her hair is shortish, but SOMETHING could’ve been done, amirite?

    • maybe something very 20’s like fingerwaves… just something, anything really!

      • Sarah

Good idea! I do like her green nails, though.

      • MilaXX

yup or even soft marcel waves

      • kipper

        such a good idea!

    • unpious

The dress requires a commitment to Face and Posture that she seems unwilling to make at this juncture.

      • Sarah

        Or, like, any juncture?

        • unpious

She can manage it in a magazine. Real life appearances, not so much.

          • marlie

In a magazine where they have the time and privacy to take shot after shot after shot until they get a good one.

          • Sophie

And where they can actually shout at her to sit up straight.

          • MilaXX

            or photoshop the slouch out

          • demidaemon

How does that work actually? Just curious.

      • 3boysful

        And better shoes.

I gather it’s Sparkle Day at TLo HQ today? Perhaps because they’re kind of in tinseltown?

      • Kayceed

Yes – I think this very simple, streamlined, body-skimming silhouette really works for her. And with that simplicity, I like an interesting fabric. But girlfriend has to step it up in presence if she wants to really shine.

    • moppet

I think you nailed it — some more zhushing of the hair was called for, and also some jewelry.

The color brings out her eyes tho. And I agree that the green nails go well with the copper, IMO.

  • I love that dress!

    • Sarah

It goes really well with her eyes, I just noticed, which is cool.

      • Lizzyisi

It is a very pretty color and it is a very pretty color on her.

        • unpious

The shot of her looking over her shoulder is great, because she’s not pulling a weird face and you can’t tell that she’s standing all askew, so the loveliness of the color/her face really stand out. Headsuit still needs a rethink.

          • tallgirl1204

i think one of the things that has bugged most about her clothing choices have been the colors. THIS is your color, Lena Dunham! Coppers, maybe some golds– not those pastel-y pinks and blues that wash a girl with your beautiful skin out. I actually like this choice from the waist up to the neck– the sleeves, the neckline and bust and color are lovely. Need to re-think the bottom half and from the neck up. But color– wow, it’s a winner.

    • clatie

      I do, too.

  • your face

I like the shorter length on the model, but I could see that it might look a little awkward on a normal height/normal calf size person.

HATE HATE HATE the shoes, so I guess I’m glad the dress covers them a little.

  • Capt. Renault

    “I’m Sally O’Malley, and I’m fifty — FIFTY — years old!”

    • kodfish

Hey I’m 50 and I would wear that a whole lot better than Ms. Lena-

      • Tigrrl

I’m right there with you at 51. I’d at least be able to compose my face into a more “Bam!” expression.

  • ScarlettHarlot

There needs to be a contrasting color in there, somewhere. Between her skin, eyes, hair, heels, and dress it’s all to blah.

    • VicD

It sure makes SJP’s “bronze, copper, and gold” ensemble look wonderful in comparison, eh?

  • tonibaloney

THAT HAIR!!! The “my toddler did it” cut is one thing, but it looks as if she barely brushed it!

  • Janet B

Wow – I’m surprised how much I like this on her. Now if she would act as if she’s enjoying it.

    • Anne

I agree! The fit and color of the dress are stunning. I think she needs lipstick, some kind of updo, and an attitude adjustment.

  • Jaeda Laurez

The hair is terrible, and she needs jewelry, but I like the dress.

  • BlairBear

I think this is one of the best dresses she has worn. the rest falls flat

  • MilaXX

That’s a cute dress, but she accessorized it all wrong. First of all; BRA! If you can score a Marc Jacobs dress, I think you can spring for a bra that does your boobs some justice. Then there’s the wrong shoe, hair & makeup. Lena needs to pack that dress up and send it to Amber Riley or Queen Latifa. It deserves someone to wear it right.

    • butterflysunita

The Queen would make that dress sing.

  • decormaven

Beautiful dress- the shade is great against her hair/skin- but its design is not one I would choose for her. She’s on designer training wheels; may the next foray be more successful.

  • I do think this is the best makeup we’ve ever seen on her.. and I love the sparkle factor of this dress.

The colour is super gorgeous on her, too. Love how it sets off her eyes. 🙂

Shoes are an epic fail, and I want to do something else with that hair but I have no idea what.

  • andi56

Seriously, can I borrow her for just a half-hour and schlep her to Saks? Until she develops her own style, rather than look like she’s playing dress-up, nothing is going to suit her well. It’s possible for super-plain gallumphing girls like her to present much better than she does. Do I sound like someone’s mother? But really, she has no idea who she is, which may be a product of her age, and it shows with every red-carpet glide.

    • suburbanbohemian

I think she’s got some self-fulfilling thing going on as if she has to look miserable and badly dressed no matter what. She’s trying to prove something negative to herself by looking so uncomfortable and always botching the look. It seems like deliberate self sabotage. If you wanna be a schlump, be a schlump, but she doesn’t even own it.Yes, take her to SAKs but first give her a couple off glasses of wine and get her to tell you what she gets out of looking like this.

      • andi56

Bingo! I think you nailed it! She’s trying to make it ironic, but you can’t do that unless you know yourself well enough to be cheeky and confident in your appearance. One TV series does not a career make, and you can’t act like you’re biting the hand that feeds you; you always have to be on top of your game. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she’s just some flash in the pan.

    • MilaXX

A trip to the lingerie department alone would be worth it. She never seems to grasp the concept of a bra that lifts and separates.

      • andi56

Quite so; the proper foundation garments make the woman! And holy cow, those shoes are ugly.

  • Anna

Does she make this face on purpose? Does she enjoy doing it? It’s been a few years that she’s been in the public eye, has she not seen photos of herself in that time and thought to herself, “OK, maybe not so much with that expression.”

Or maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. As far as her track record of red carpet ensembles goes, this is one of the best she’s worn. But her posture and her face are so goddamn distracting.

    • MilaXX

I remember when she wore that mermaid silhouette yellow gown she said on some chat show that they had tried to show her how to pose in it. I think they are giving her tips on her to pose but she’s just bad at it. She always looks like a 12 year old girl posing in front of a mirror trying to give face.

    • SylviaFowler

Yes, she does make that face on purpose. She does the same ridiculous posing with her face and body that Lea Michele does. If you’ve ever seen either one of them in a red carpet video, you’ll know what I mean. They act like they’re at a photoshoot and that they are supermodels.

  • omg_dora

That’s a really unfortunate facial expression. “Durr!” Hee. I wonder if she was making it on purpose or it just happened for a moment and the photographer chose it for distribution because he doesn’t like her.

Her makeup looks great and the v-neck looks awesome on her. She looks much better than usual. She could look great if she had combed her hair.

    • Rhonda Shore

Agree, she looks REALLY GOOD in this dress, thumbs down on the shoes though.

    • demidaemon

This is an excellenet argument for why you must always have your BAM face on. You know the photogs get more money for awful expressions that fierce expressions.

  • Eva_baby

Cute dress. Terrible, terrible hair. WTF expression. Bad shoes. Her hair is usually awful but not this bad. She needs a cut that flatters her face, and some real styling. And her RC posing/faces are also usually terrible. It is clear she does not know what to do with her body in some of these clothes. She needs to sit with someone who can get a sense of who she is and then they can style her. She just looks 100% uncomfortable all the time.

    • pepita

I wonder if Tim Gunn could help her.

      • I don’t think there is a person on this earth that Tim Gunn could not help in some way. But if by help you mean fix her posture and teach her posing faces that do not look enormously stupid, absolutely. It might take a long time, and I am sure an enormous amount of patience.. possibly a vat of vodka or few. 😉

Compared to the posture and posing, the clothes and hair are an easy fix.

I do think I disagree on her looking uncomfortable all the time. I think when posing on red carpets, she looks like she is trying to give us what she thinks we want to see. In this dress she thinks we want to see pouty face or sexy face. Hilariously on her this comes off as a frown with fish lips. Scroll back up, you’ll see what I’m saying.. her brow is slightly furrowed!

But I saw other pictures from this event where she was not posing and she actually looked fantastic when she wasn’t trying to pose. EG that side shot, that is KILLA. I’d guess that was taken when she was moving from one pose to another.

  • j_am

The color on her is spectacular, though.

  • Town

The dress is fine on her. Her hair, makeup and shoes are not.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Those shoes need to get in mah belly! I mean, on my feets.

  • SewSophie

I like this actually except the terrible shoes.

  • crash1212

Huh. I think she looks great. This silhouette is much better than the gigantic things she usually wears. The color is fab on her and she’s carrying off the sequin-ness of it admirably. I understand why she chose those shoes, but they weren’t the best choice. I do believe this should’ve been a WERQ, as I consider it an all time best for her. Also, it’s so much better as a gown than that midi thing the model is wearing.

    • demidaemon

True, but in a WERQ, you must be selling it every single second, and she is not.

      • crash1212

Eh. My WERQ rules are a little more lax. She’s doing the best she’ll ever do and, given her past, this is a home run.

  • jtabz

I really like the color of her, but I feel like the dress loses its youthfulness at this length. So much kickier in the runway version.

  • kodfish

Lena has beautiful eyes, her best feature really. They should always be the focus. That said, her cleavage seems to struggle in every red carpet shot I;ve seen.

  • Danielle

The girls need some support. Otherwise I’m fine with it.

  • tallgirl1204

That color is GORGEOUS with her eyes. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful color of her eyes, which I had never particularly noticed before. So, maybe it’s the wrong dress, but it is the right color.

    • caroline

My thoughts exactly. That color makes her eyes light up unlike anything else I’ve seen her wear.

  • Qitkat

I hate it. I hate it on the model, and I really hate it on Lena. She can’t carry off this much of one color, much less dressed like a bronze Emmy statue with a baffled expression and cowlick hair.
It takes a lot of panache for anyone to carry off a one-note dress such as this. This is 50 Shades of Wrong.

    • Imasewsure

I think the model’s dress has potential but probably FMO or FSWLALMO (“For starlets who look exactly like models only”). Kind of a 70’s Marisa Berenson/Lauren Hutton thing …

    • demidaemon

Tell us how you really feel. 😉

  • estella_nyc

“but we’d never think of putting her in a body-con metallic gown when she seems to love dressing up like a pants-less toddler most of the time”

  • Scott Cooper

This actually could have been a real winner if she’d had a bit more dramatic makeup and some big hair. But the shoes are crime against god and man.

  • KateMaryC

I think her look can go well with a bit of a flapper style, with the model version of this dress has. If they had kept the hem mid-calf and put her in a strappy pair of shoes, I think she could have nailed this.

    • demidaemon

Surprisingly, she seemed against showing her legs this one time, which is really off-model for her.

  • That is an epic DERP face

  • IraKi

I am shocked by how well this silhouette works for her! I hate the fact that every element of this outfit is in a similar colour. And those shoes are the stuff nightmares are made of.

  • Wink

She looks surprising good – in spite of the bad hair and shoes, and lack of proper undergarments. The longer length works much better for her than a shorter length. (The dress length on the model stops right at the calf – the ‘fattest’ part of the leg… which is not a good look for ANYONE except models who are 6′ tall and weigh 105 lbs!)

  • Jessica Freeman

I really see her face as she is thinking she is super sexy in the dress. I don’t hate this on her, but knee length would have worked better for her.

    Those shoes tho…

  • Joanna

Yes on the v-neck, color and makeup. No on the length of the hem, hair, pose, and facial expression. BIG NO-F’ING-WAY on the shoes.

  • Nika E

She cracks me up with her faces she makes. It’s like in her head shes saying “yeah, im smizing. Im working the hell out of my face and its sexy.” No Lena, u look ridiculous. The dress is just so so…

  • The length was better in the original and would have matched her attitude a bit better. This is like 30 yrs too old for her. And it’s too matchy match with her hair. The shoes are too awful to talk about in good company.

  • suzq

I would have liked to see her in the shorter version. I’m sure by the time the night was over, those bottom sequins were schmooshed to smithereens.

  • carnush

I saw this dress in a window of a fabric shop in the Garment District.

  • Susan Velazquez

I think she looks great. I was shocked to see how well this color and style suit her. Except as usual, her posture sucks and her hair and make up are nonexistent. Curl your hair Lena and paint a cat eye or a smoke eye and you’ll be golden (no pun intended)

  • kipper

Did an actual gay gasp at the shoes …..

    • kipper

The dress looks fine on here, nice – this would be close to a personal best for her, If ( IF ) she would have just pulled her hair back or put it up – or make friends with a good wig man.

  • jw_ny

It’s so not her dress. But, since she insisted on wearing it (or someone else insisted for that matter) She really needed to go for it and totally glam it up. Sleek hair, diamond earrings, dramatic eye makeup, big honkin gaudy ring, and yes, better & killer shoes.

  • cocohall

She needs to pick a lane. Either make a genuine grab for the fashion brass ring, or play the defiant clown in the weird toddler clothes. When you put on a dress like this, you need to commit. That face says “I’m pretending to be a top model and give you my blank stare complete with hands on hips” pose as ironic counterpoint to an actually fabulous dress that I still don’t believe I can/should be wearing. I could even take her alternating between looks depending on the venue. But you cannot pull off both attitudes in the same look. Personally I think she should just go full glam. We do not really need a female version of David Arquette in terms of fashion. (You could argue we don’t need a male version either, but he had an extremely odd childhood so I just kinda let that crazy walk on by.)

    • demidaemon

A little crazy in small doses isn’t a bad thing, as long as it’s not in the house with you. That’s what I always say, at least.

  • It looks a smidge too snug, and I feel like there should be some sort of bling in the head/neck area. Also, I don’t think the shoes are bad – they’re just bad with this. Still, she’s a toddler taking baby steps so I want encourage her to keep walking in this direction.

  • elemspbee

pants less toddler–love it. perfectly captured. Love the shoes, but not on her or with the dress.

  • Can’t she find someone to do something with her hair? It’s always so…just there. The dress is better on her than I’d have thought and the color is awesome. The shoes with it are an abomination.

  • Lenora Dody

I wish I could get up to LA for the signing; hopefully we will see you in San Diego one of these days! Yes, I wish if she was going to do this she would just go for it and go all of the way.

  • Candigirl1968

Too messy hair, barely there makeup, wrong jewelry and shoes. This actually has potential; but there is no follow through.

  • Cyprienne Zed

Torch singer, a little too drunk!

  • ojosazules

This dress looks great on her.

  • SayWhaaatNow

    I don’t know…she kind of looks like a baked potato…

  • Paula Pertile

All she needs is a feather boa.

    Have fun in LA.

  • Hilda Elizabeth Westervelt

Is that gum on the heel of her shoe?

  • bessann28

The length is much better on the model’s dress. The dress is pretty awful IMO, but the train makes it even more so.

  • Christine Hart

It’s a shame, if Lena liked it (so that her body language would reflect that), and with better styling, this could have turned out really well.

  • For me it’s a double miss. I don’t think it looks good on her nor I think it’s her style. Her face is hilarious and her shoes are awful with this.

  • Cheryl

I like that she is trying, but Lena honey, please make friends with a comb.

  • georgie

From her Instagram: “I save my sequins for when I know the gay boys will be out #traffickinginstereotypes”

  • Carla_Charlton

In addition to the undone hair, I think a more contrasting color would have helped.

  • marlie

At this point, her posing and constipated-looking facial expressions just make me angry. I can’t look at her any more.

And those SHOES. With this dress (which isn’t actually terrible on her)? Just NO.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

That dress deserves a more polished head and those shoes…yikes. Too bad, this could have been fabulous.

The tea length would have been better for her and the shoes might not seem so bad.

  • PeaceBang

I find this so offensive. If you want to slouch around and make derp faces with 8th grade “I just cut my own hair” styling, don’t bring this beautiful gown down with you.

  • Sissy

this look does not call for a toe pop. but, then again, whatever.

  • GeoDiva

WTF is with those ugly shoes? Never in a million years will they look good with anything. Just feel sorry for that poor python who gave up his life for ugly footware!

  • lunchcoma

Were those shoes just removed from a time capsule from 2004?

    • Linderella

No, but if you subtract 30 more years, you’ll at least be in the right neighborhood.

  • MzzPants

I could give a pass on the dress, but not on the raggedy-assed hair.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

When you’re wearing a designer dress, you do need to do the hair and make up to compliment the dress-whether you got talked into the dress or no.

  • LJA

Why does she try so hard to fit into the fashion world when it’s just not her, not at all who she is? Why doesn’t she just be herself? (Hello Helena Bonham Carter.) She always looks uncomfortable, never knows how to wear these clothes and whenever we actually compliment them it’s always, “well, it could be worse.” or “it’s not THAT bad.” Her whole oeuvre is so anti this world, I always just find it so weird when she tries to play in it.

    • MilaXX

Because she hasn’t yet defined her fashion style yet. Clearly she likes being able to wear designer clothes. No one has stuff custom made otherwise. She just hasn’t found a style or designer that works for her body yet. Helena has Vivienne Westwood, Lena just needs to find what works for her.

      • demidaemon

You have hit the nose on her problem. In addition, she doesn’t seem to want to figure out her style, for whatever reason, even though I can’t fathom it.

        • Alloy Jane

I think it’s an issue of Baby wants to wear ALL the dresses. She gives off “spoiled brat” a whole lot and those kinda kids don’t usually put in the effort to LEARN about things that are foreign to them. She would need a little bit of fashion education to be able to successfully figure out her style and so far, she’s just throwing spaghetti at the wall.

          • demidaemon

            You are so right!

  • Mim McDonald

I love that colour on her.

  • msdamselfly

Maybe it would’ve looked ok without that ridiculous expression

  • Amykl

Messy hair + office shoes = junior associate roped into filling a table for some law firm client’s charity. She’ll be back at her desk by 10:30pm to finish that brief.

  • alyce1213

This dress requires Presence, which she lacks.
It makes me wonder — why can’t she simply present herself as she is, with the force of her personality. Why the affectation? It’s so damn annoying, I can’t look at her.

  • mcbishop

I think she looks pretty great actually, and that she chose a simple, sleek dress. It might be glitzy, but the simplicity suits her, and the color. Good on her! Ignore the shoes.

  • Gatto Nero

The dress is … not bad, and she seems even to be wearing the proper foundation garments. So — well done?
But as you say it doesn’t suit her, and she looks baffled.
And agree about the shoes. The hair styling and manicure are a needle scratch, too.

  • Shawn EH

Needs some accessories, though not a dead rodent.

  • Zeee

Quite frankly, I like it better on her than on the model. But that ain’t sayin’ much. That’s a droopy, blah dress.

More importantly, Welcome to the Southland T&L!!! We have summer here waiting for you. Grab a drink, sit by the pool and enjoy the sunshine after your arctic winter.

  • amanda siegelson

i actually disagree whole-heartedly on the assessment that ‘she’s not feeling it’. i think she actually is feeling sexy as hell and that’s what you’re seeing on her face. the shoes are foul – but you hardly see them – and the dress looks great on her. good on ya, lena!

  • Denise Rambo

The stylist must have forgotten to bring the shoes that were SUPPOSED to go with that dress.

  • Sophie

I like the dress, and I think it looks better floor-length. She looks like she’s sulking.

  • Leigh David

Oh, Agnes! Here you’ve been taking my dictations for weeks and you haven’t gotten the message of my book: live!

    • demidaemon

I died at the Auntie Mame reference!

      • Leigh David

If Lena Dunham can sing – she would be great as Agnes Gooch – she looks like Vera and Mame just got through with her makeover.

        • demidaemon

But didn’t Mame put make-up on Agnes?

          • Leigh David

The photographs reminded me of a great shot of Peggy Cass going upstairs with a fur stole over her shoulder. You’re right, Agnes’s lipstick is more vibrant. But the posture and an inability to really inhabit the gown are all there.

          • demidaemon

TRue, true. Although I think Agnes tried harder than Lena here. Especially after she got a few drinks in her.

  • The color is great on her, but the shoes are just embarrassing. And while the fit is admirable, I’m getting a distinct I CAN’T BREATHE vibe.

  • NinjaCate

I actually really like it. The colour is cute and even the shape kind of suits her. The fit is great. Wish she’d done more with the hair and makeup though. Burn the shoes.

  • Columbinia

She looks good — except for the awful shoes. I think we should go with this simple, glamorous gown and the new direction. But she needs to figure out what to do with her hands.

  • Aidan B

Oooh, so close! Great dress, great fit, terrible shoes, strange expression.

  • rkdgal

Love the dress and love her in the dress…now if only SHE loved the dress and loved herself in the dress!

  • angryparsnip

I don’t comment often, well almost never, because the bitter kitten all write my thoughts so much better than I can. The comments make my day !
BUT as a person who tries to look presentable for ME and others everyday, every time I look at her I want to shake her.
I have many problems from Valley Fever, Fibromyalgia, and Arthritis. Yet everyday I stand up straight, comb my hair. I wear clothes with elastic waists, easy to get on, no buttons. And yet with my diverse, hahahahahahahahahahahahahah, whoo hoo, wardrobe, I think I look better than she does on any given day, minus that lovely dress. I would love to wear that dress have some one put my makeup on and fluff my hair.
Her I don’t care attitude here I am but I really don’t want to be here but I am here… Is that not part of her job ? or is this a extra that she can say yes or no ? She sure add in her next contract it is stated I do not go to any official functions.
I use to get up at 5 am to get to my job at 6 am in a lab coat and funky looking white shoes. It was my job.
Slap a smile on, stand up straight and enjoy your life it could be worst. You could be me.
But saying that I love my life problems and all.

Getting off soap box and back to my walker, it is really cute one bright red with hand brakes just like a bike ! I want one in lime green next.

I think I may need my second cup of coffee today.
    cheers, parsnip

Cheers to you, parsnip. I think you have effectively located what drives us all crazy about Miss Dunham. Your soapbox is our soapbox, and I, for one, will gladly stand on it with you.

      • angryparsnip

        awwwwwwwwwww Thank You !

        cheers, parsnip

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I’m not underwhelmed. But I’m not overwhelmed. I guess I’m just “whelmed”.

  • traceyishere

Shoes are the worst part and what I don’t get is how she got in this dress. MJ does not make anything in a plus size.

    • ballerinawithagun

Lena is NOT a Plus size.

  • Sofia

um, i think that look on her face is her attempt at being sexy, slinky, and smoldering. if i tried that look, i would look ridiculous too. you need a different kind of face/beauty to pull off that kind of stare. so true that the color of this dress is doing wonders for her eyes. take note, lena.

  • Part of the problem is the color. It’s not like it doesn’t look good on her at all, it’s just that I think it would look better in a deep blue or green on her. As it is, I feel like this whole thing is just a little monoblahmatic on her. A better color would brighten her up a bit.

  • KayEmWhy

I’m tired of her I don’t give a F*@!% attitude when it comes to style. She looks like a sloppy mess and needs to find a stylist who can give her a smashing look. I feel like her wearing ugly schmatzas is an insult to the industry. Dress the part or stay home.

  • That side shot, I was trying for ages to work out who it reminded me of.. I think it might be Barbara Streisand..

Whoever it reminds me of, it is my favourite shot of Lena ever, and if I were her I would get the printing on the back screen photo shopped out and have that photo on my wall.. Maybe even pop art it Warhol style..

  • Gracie82

Is this a joke? “Not that bad”? She dresses this way on purpose to prove how much “smarter” she is than people who care about their appearance.

    Welcome to California!

  • megohd

First, I’l be nice. That color is STUNNING on her. Highlights her eyes and warm skin–beautiful.

But. I looked at that top photo and laughed out loud. The expression is so ridiculous! It reminds me of me trying to pretend I was a model when I was 10 years old. Just weird.

The shoes—Who? What? Why? I just can’t imagine how anyone thought they were a good idea. They look like office wear.

I agree that the silhouette is surprisingly good, but while the color flatters her eyes and skin, the fabric doesn’t flatter her curves.

  • Mousentrude

She’d look fantastic if she’d only stand up straight and enjoy wearing a fabulous dress.

  • MarissaLG

The hair and shoes completely ruin any positives this gown was doing for her.

  • Gatto Nero

Is the model carrying a dead raccoon?

  • julnyes

I actually like the dress on her and her make-up is fantastic. A different shoe would be nice and I wouldn’t hate a more dramatic lip and some jewels, but overall this is one of her best looks ever in my opinion.

  • Not to get overtly political on here, but man they really needed the ENTIRE animal for that purse, didn’t they? Carcass Wear, 2014.

  • abishagijh

Really, this is about the only picture of her I can stand to look at, though the shoes are horrible.

  • Viviennne

this is not a good look…. on anyone….least of all this woman. shoes = desperate

  • ShaoLinKitten

It looks bad on the model and bad on Lena. Not flattering at ALL, emphasizes her hips, makes her bust look small. A total fail.

  • antonialee

Ugh, those shoes really took it to TackyTown.

  • Jean Beaton Leavitt

I like it…I think she does too. After checking out her father’s art work and realizing this girl grew up surrounded by huge vaginas and assholes this girl can do no wrong in my book. She has to be really interesting. “Absolutely singular” as Ollena Tyrell would say.

  • snarkykitten

I can’t see her hideous tattoos. So instead of being a -1, she’s at 1 on the style scale for me.

  • French_Swede

The only positive thing I can say is that the color of the dress completely brings out the sparkling color in her eyes.

  • mrspotts66

    the shoes are for sh!+.
i actually like the dress on her.

  • macwell

I’m sorry, but – she looks stupid. I was going to type ‘silly’, but stupid seems more correct. The dress. The unfortunate facial expression. The shoes – OMG!…No. 🙁

  • Talia

She looks like a spangled sausage.

  • Trickytrisha

Pregnant snake in a terrible wig is all I get.

  • Linderella

I’m trying to think what the shoes might be “good with” and I’m drawing a blank. They look cheap and clunky. And cheap again.

  • Linderella

A little more intensity in the eyes, and she would totally be making Miley’s “I’m farting on the cover of Elle” face.

  • xmixiex

    hilarious. derp.

  • yethica

I strongly suspect this face IS her “I am so fierce. I make love to all the things” look, not an awkward and confused expression. The fierce attempt, of course, just makes her look more awkward and confused than she is naturally.

  • Aurumgirl

The shoes are awful with it. But I like the shoes. For something like a suit.

  • Heather

her hair looks like she just got back from the gym. Scrolling down I saw the outfit without her head and it looked nice, actually.
I do like the nail color.

  • Amel

I actually really like this! The color is great for her, the fit is flattering (and it’s rare to see her in a well-fitted dress), and I guess she got to satisfy her weirder style side by wearing those awful shoes, which are mostly hidden.

HATE the length on her. I could see her working this right above the knee, more kicky & fun. And not with matching shoes……… And, earrings that make a statement… And……..

  • ThaliaMenninger

Well, it’s better than anything else she’s worn, which isn’t saying much. I’m channeling Totie Fields at a celebrity roast in Vegas.

  • Joanie

Her hair is horrible. Had she zhuzhed it up some, it would be fantastic

  • Mr. J.

Girl drives me nuts….why does she even try? She almost always looks like she’s being forced to do something she hates….I mean, either do it or don’t do it….she SORT OF does it and then isn’t happy, and can’t be bothered to make an effort…..honestly. You’ve got money, honey. Grow up already……

  • amaranth16

That is a sexy-ass dress. I don’t think it’s the right sexy-ass dress for her.

  • MoHub

Her hair looks as if it was cut with a hedgeclipper. A dull one.

  • alliekat9090

I wore those shoes in 1987- to work in an office.

  • Kikishua

Alas, never the outfit, the expression and the posture all together. Her usual maximum is one out of three.

  • I love that look on her face (2nd pic), it says: “I’m voluptuous and somewhere out there, some people are drooling over my ample ass”, a feeling I have on my “pretty” days

  • alliekat9090

I had those shoes in gray. I bought them at TJ MAXX in 1988

  • Andalucia

Looks like that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

  • Susan Crawford

I think she ought to take a page from Fran Leibovitz: wear a uniform – a look that is pared down, tailored, simple and does not make you look like a pathetic lpnely little girl screaming for love or a broken-down hipster past her sell-by date. A nice pair of tailored trousers, a good t-shirt or blouse and a well-fitted jacket. Because if you are consistently going to wear the most hideous items and is you are consistently going to try to be uber-cool and “I’m too cool to care”, I’m here to tell you it isn’t working. It’s painful to see a bright young woman being so stupid about fashion. A signature style would be the way to go at this point.

  • Jess Ballinger

I love it for hiding her broken doll posing.
