Jennifer Lawrewce in SoHo

Posted on April 22, 2014

J Law gets in touch with her inner Stevie Nicks. And you know what? We’re here for that. We think everyone should get in touch with their inner Stevie and spin, spin, spin themselves into happiness every now and then. Grab a scarf, darling. Stand back, in the middle of your room.

In fact, that’s the only thing this look is missing: a scarf. Or forty, to be more accurate about it.

But it’s Stevie-Lite, really. The tank top and jeans don’t really go with the funky coat and hat, but who cares? She looks relaxed and happy. Or as relaxed and happy as you can be walking a sidewalk in stilettos.

She’s definitely someone that looks better off of the red carpet, she seems a lot more at ease.

    • LadyVimes

Love the skinny jeans with those shoes, and I like the texturing they’ve done with her hair. Wish mine would hold that.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I am not on board with peeptoe booties, but I am glad to see that even Oscar winners get shit hat hair.

    • sugarkane105

Damn, it seems like her hair has grown a lot since we last saw her. I love the whole outfit except for the shoes. Toes don’t really go with the rest of this.

      • Spicytomato1

It does seem much longer, but then I was looking at shots of her shorter hair…it wasn’t a super short pixie with tons of layers, more like a super short bob that maybe was strategically cut to allow for ease of growing out. She seemed to style it to make it look more cropped than it really was, I think. In any case, I love this longer, choppy look on her, looks younger and fresher than the shorter ‘do did to me.

    • Tricia Rose

I would normally hate that coat… but when my virtual bestie wears it on our virtual shopping spree I am all about it! High Five Virtual Bestie!

    • Ms. Schmidt

I love that hat. LOVE it. I would hug it, pet it, squeeze it, and call it George.

      • kimmeister

I am predisposed to like hats as it is (I am wearing a fuchsia fedora right this second), but this is a particularly good one for her.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

          Fuchsia fedora! Amazing!

        • ShaoLinKitten

Prince should write a song called “Fuchsia Fedora” as a follow up to “Raspberry Beret.”

          • kimmeister

OMG I totally have a raspberry beret too! I hadn’t even made the connection to that song.

      • rockin robin

The girl can work a hat! Who would have thought it?

    • @Biting Panda

JLaw has copped my choppy bob!! I win everything!!

      • gabbilevy

The world thanks you! It seems much more her.

      • Spicytomato1

You do win. I wish I could pull off a choppy bob! I don’t have the right hair texture. Or face shape. Or sassy style. Or much of anything, I guess.

      • SierraDelta

I KNEW she reminded me of someone! ;-)

    • Eva_baby

Honestly, I think she’s channelling Zoe Kravitz more than Stevie Knicks.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

        Or Dianna Agron.

    • MilaXX

Not loving the shoes, but I otherwise I don’t hate the look.

    • sagecreek

She looks great, and happy. The anti-Reese, if you will.

    • decormaven

The tank seems a little relaxed for the rest of the look, but it’s an acceptable style.

    • jilly_d

HOW is her hair that long already. I am growing out her haircut and it’s taking an ETERNITY! And my hair grows fairly fast! I’m telling myself that all that hair is just attached to the I side of the hat.

    • http://sleepingfoxstitchery.weebly.com CLoverleaf

I like the bob she appears to be going for with her hair.

    • latina fey

every time i put on my silky robe, i spin around singing, “staaaand back staaaand back!”
      oh, i hate those shoes.

      • Kitten Mittons

That made me laugh. And I love your name.

    • Kate Andrews

I like her hair. she even looks good when it’s growing out!

    • http://www.beautifymylifeblog.com Jessica

Cute overall, but I hate the shoes. Hate.

    • amf0001

she looks like she just broke up with her true love and hacked her hair off in penance

    • xmixiex

she really doesn’t look *that* stevie… i don’t think i’ve seen stevie in skinny jeans. and why wouldn’t the jacket go over basic jeans and tank top? this is a cool basic day look. but stilettos to shop in… i ache for her. i thought they were wedges at first.

    • Danielle

This is the hat Zosia should have opted for.

    • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana F.

Those have got to be extensions, right?

      • Alyssa

Pretty sure. I started growing out a similar cut around the same time as her, and mine is nowhere near that long yet.

      • macaroni

Possible, but I have a friend whose pixie grew out roughly as quickly as hers has appeared to. Some people’s hair just grows astonishingly fast.

        • Sarah

Especially when you’re young. I remember my hairstylist being shocked that my hair grew about three inches a month when I was in my teens but now I’m lucky for half an inch, and I can’t even get it to grow longer than shoulder length.

    • teensmom99

I didn’t think I oculd be more in love but this is a great example of dressing like people in their early twenties dress–except with a lot more money. Somehow it’s not pretentious on her. Perhaps that’s JLaw’s special magic–things look down to earth on her even when they are not (but that explains why Dior is not a good fit in case you thought that needed explaining).

    • marlie

The shoes are not my thing because I hate open-toed booties, and I’m not crazy about the jacket, but overall the whole look works for her. That hat is great, and I love her necklace.

      • Sarah

I dig the hat too. And maybe if these were YELLOW open toed booties, you’d like them? Hehe. (I don’t care for these either)

        • marlie

HA. I consider that a momentary lapse in judgement. :)

    • Sarah

Stevie would certainly not constrain herself with skinny jeans, and that is Mick Fleetwood’s hat. JLaw looks fine, though. I feel like she needs a big boho belt.

      • demidaemon

Did you know that Fleetwood Mac is going back on tour? :) If I had the money and they were in my area, I would so go.

        • Sarah

Yeah, I heard. They’re coming to Philly/DC area, which I could make, but the cheapest seats are $60 plus the standard Ticketbastard upcharges, which is like my water bill, and then they move on up to $480+, . So, I’ll be missin’ out. I have them oozing through my hippie veins, though, at all times, so I can deal.

          • demidaemon

My mom used to have a video of them doing a a concert for PBS, which I watched a kajillion times before one of my uncles stole it. My mom is a Fleetwood/Stevie Nicks fan for life. Did you see her performance with Lady Antebellum at the ACMs or whatever they were. She was the only one of the four on point (and on pitch) throughout the whole performance.

But, man, on my budget, those tickets are clearly out of my range as well.

            • Sarah

Nope, didn’t see it. I grew up belting their songs from the backseat of the station wagon, and stealing my sister’s ballet-class legwarmers so I could be Gypsy. I also like hip-hop and I used to keep my FM predilection to myself for street cred purposes, but I ain’t ashamed anymore. I’m over 30 so I can like what I want.

    • TLJezebel

I think she needs a better bra.

      • kimmeister

Or a bra fitting. That one is clearly too small for her.

    • formerlyAnon

Goddamn, but this is my morning for the girl looks. With different jeans & shoes, this coulda been me in 1978. Well, if I’d had money. Before my boyfriend borrowed and LOST the vintage Ray Bans my dad handed down to me. (Even through the haze of love that irritated me deeply.)

BTW, publicity persons: I don’t actually give a darn about her accessories. Where did the COAT come from?????

      • alyce1213

Your story pierced my heart. I gave my dad’s vintage Ray Bans to my husband many years ago and he broke them — unfixable. I do still have them, sitting sadly in their original case, though.

        • formerlyAnon

Yay for cool dads! I forgave (& married) the boyfriend, but I kept the empty case for years. I don’t know if I still have it, but if I do it will have outlasted the husband.

    • macaroni

I love everything about this, even though I don’t think the booties really go with the rest of the outfit. I wish we knew where that coat was from!

    • colleenjanel

GTNYB … Girl, that’s not your bra.

    • Imasewsure

She Zosia-ed her head… gawd can we just bring back the baseball cap for starlets pretending to hide? I hate this stupid hat trend (but I love everything else about this even if it doesn’t match)

    • msdamselfly

      Ridiculous. Her friend looks lovely

      • OmegaMu

I agree. I’d like to know more about the jacket the friend/assistant/security detail is wearing.

    • kmk05

I love everything about this, especially her lips.

    • aahlife

I suspect she is wearing the hat because her hair is at the awkward stage. Would like to see her head without the hat.

      • ShaoLinKitten

I was just going to post that I want to see her without the hat. The hair looks promising, actually. I hope she’s growing it out. I loved her long hair and did not dig the pixie on her.

      • Jessica Freeman

There is one out there…on People I think. It’s not great. We have all been there. Bless.

    • BeeBeauNYC

      Her assistant looks uncomfortable.

    • nannypoo

I’m imagining that the hair is attached to the hat and it’s supposed to be a disguise. I hate it.

    • Miss wks

Initial glance I thought it was Christina Hendricks in a wig….. with small breasteses…..

    • ThaliaMenninger

I hate the hat. I can’t get past that. There is also the fact that I just watched American Hustle and hated it and hated her in it, so… I am in a hating mood when it comes to Ms Lawrence.

    • Austen Jane

Those shoes look like those boots they use as replacement casts. With heels. Liking the rest, though.

    • MannahattaMamma

those shoes on an nyc sidewalk are just dumb

    • FibonacciSequins

Those are the wrong jeans and the wrong bra for her. Everything else looks great, even the hat (for once).

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

But where is the coat from? I want it. Or a downscale knockoff.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

I don’t see Stevie Nicks in this look. But impressed by how fast JL’s hair is growing.

    • Sophie

      Nice necklace.

    • Granny panties

Those stretch pants are not flattering on her lovely figure.

    • nicewilliams

      Mom jeans!

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

She’s growing the pixie cut rather nicely.

    • ladybane

That girl has a got a Body. I hate her.

    • quiltrx

First picture…what is going on with her right boob?
Anyway, cute outfit, great coat, cool necklace.

    • lbl

      How does she look happy…

    • Jecca2244

yay she’s growing her hair out

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

      MAUDE wants her coat back!

    • Vtg Fashion Library

Am I missing something, or is that a typo in the title? (Sorry, editor’s eye.)

    • Nicole

love the whole outfit <3 although I would probably change the hat and shoes.
