Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton at “Noah” Paris Premiere

Posted on April 02, 2014

We have a newfound respect for Miss Jennifer. She is really giving this poledance her all and doing everything she can to make sure she’s spotlight-ready, even when she looks kind of over it and exhausted.

Jennifer Connelly attends the Premiere of “Noah” at Cinema Gaumont Marignan in Paris in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton.

And discussable. She makes sure to give us all something to talk about, doesn’t she?

We no likey. Might as well get right to it. We can get behind the idea of an Elvis-fabulous top like that, but not paired with a relatively plain A-line skirt. It just looks weird and unbalanced to us. The top half and the bottom half (because we honestly can’t tell if they’re separates) are both nice in their own right, but they don’t blend very well, to our eyes.

But chin up, tits out, girl. You’re working that red carpet to great effect. Get through this one and then go order yourself a massage or something.

I was just thinking that brown-eyed girls are really the only ones who can work the “smoky eye” look. Looks hiddy on a blue-eyed girl, IMHO.

      Take note, SJP.

      • KinoEye

I thought Jen’s eyes were green?

        • Sarah

I dunno, but I has the blue ones and I look great with a smoky eye. You just have to do it in browns, not blacks.

          • KinoEye

Light green eyes here, and I agree. I used to do black, but my mom convinced me to switch to brown when I was a teenager on the strength of Bette Davis’s advice. Apparently she only used brown mascara/liner.

            • Sarah

Black is too harsh, especially when you are getting older. Sometimes I use grey, too, if I can find the right sort of slate color that’s not too blue.

            • alyce1213

I just wrote that to you, should have read down.

            • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

You must have been a very discerning teenager.

            • KinoEye

I wasn’t in the early teenage years. Then I realized how very cool it was that my mom watched TCM all the time, and how Bette Davis should have been elected Queen of the Known Universe when she was alive. I came around eventually :-)

            • Shug

Samesies. Harsh black liner on fair blue/green/hazel eyed ladies makes me cringe a bit. (I’m looking at you, Shug’s sister.)

          • The Versatile Chef

I guess I’ve never seen it done well on the blue-eyed gals – but I would think lighter colors would be the way to go. Smoky eye just makes me nuts on SJP.

            • Sarah

Oh heck yeah. She definitely needs to rethink that look. And like I mentioned below, the older you are, the more harsh black is going to look on your skin and it will actually highlight any fine lines you might have around your eyes. Nobody likes a cadaver raccoon, amirite?

            • MikeW_Vegas

Evidently Matthew Broderick likes a cadaver Raccoon

            • formerlyAnon

              Heh.

            • Sunraya

Duchess Kate, too. She already looks like a raccoon with all of that black eyeliner. I dread what she will look likein ten years! i just don’t get why these women, with all of the resources in the world, get it so wrong time after time?

          • alyce1213

Grey works too, if you can find it.

          • Sobaika

EXACTLY. Browns and greys for lighter eyes.

      • Mazenderan

Blue-eyed girls can do a smoky eye. SJP insists on tightlining with black liner – which is way too harsh and closes her eye up

    • lexilexi

Embarrassed to admit I love this. And she does look exhausted.

      • Kent Roby

I like it, too. For me, the plainness of the skirt helps balance the craziness of the top. Incidentally, this top could look really tacky on many gals (even without unzipping further), but JC is classy enough to make it work.

      • Anna

Count me in, I love this too. I wish I looked like this when I’m exhausted.

      • alyce1213

I love it and I’m not embarrassed.

        • Julie Parr

I love it too and think it’s all one piece.

      • Carleenml

why embarrassed? I love it, too! No shame, baby.

    • Kent Roby

With the first two shots, I thought we were still at the wax museum.

    • KT

First of all, I totally agree with you and also am very happy that she’s taking risks and doing interesting things, which can also be said for the film that she’s poledancing for, so kudos all around for that.

That jacket is crazy, and I would really love it if it didn’t look like the top half of a tracksuit. Maybe that’s what this look needs — a matching pair of pants (it doesn’t – I’m just kidding)! I really like the skirt, as well as the belt paired with it, but I agree that this is looking uneven. But then again, what else would you pair that jacket with? And the shoes are just plain boring.

I don’t hate this, but I don’t love it either. A for effort, and she can at least take solace in the fact that she’s still gorgeous.

    • gayle

I am going to disagree with you on this one, I really like this from head to toe. I agree in some of these pictures she looks tired and ready to be done.

    • BobStPaul

Have to disagree on this one. I think that top demands a comparatively simple bottom.

      • lundibleu

I think what it needs is a nice simple pair of tailored trousers, not that skirt. A bottom half with any kind of embellishment would just look too much I think.

    • Victoria Anzalone

first day as intern at Elvis Impersonators, Inc.

    • Grumpy Girl

If she didn’t look so tired, and was instead exuding an energetic vibe, i think this would be an undeniably cute outfit. It fits her really well–the sleeves and hem both fall to the right place; the zipper is open enough, but not too much. It’s not something I would have picked for her (or my paper doll of her), but it actually looks better than she’s selling in her exhausted-looking state. (And darnit, why can’t i look that cute when I also look clearly in need of a nap?)

    • Trickytrisha

That top is pure Vegas showboy, so yeah…Elvis is an appropriate reference methinks. Her style choices recently have been heavy, highly ornamented, and dark. Kinda like a another Vegas icon – Liberace in a funk.

      • leahpapa

Elvis, yes, but this is also what I imagine the French Evel Knievel wears.

        • Trickytrisha

Yes! I thought of him too. It’s very showbiz jumpsuit glitz for the guys.

    • Imasewsure

Again she just doesn’t have the PhD fashion chops to go for something like this… that top is interesting… could have been really fun on the right person (or even on the wrong person with capri ladypants)

    • colleenjanel

I don’t hate the outfit, but damn Jen … give us some posture … energy … life!! Something! Even your hair has given up.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

A tight pencil skirt would have done wonders.

    • jw_ny

The zipper is perfectly inline and the same, between top and bottom, so looks to be a dress, not separates.

She should’ve saved this getup for the Las Vegas premiere.

      • ballerinawithagun

You are correct, definitely a dress. But that much money for fun and tacky? I don’t think so.

    • marlie

What offends me the most is that this ugly dress/outfit is Louis Vuitton. But I give the ladystars props for continuing to go all out (for the most part) to promote this movie. They’re making a serious effort.

    • Evan

She looks like she’s ready to go to the disco.

    • Janet B

Jennifer wore her clothes better a couple of weeks ago. She needs help working on the “I’m fierce” attitude while exhausted.

    • Ashley Ellen Wilson

It’s one piece–the zipper goes all the down. So really it’s not her fault….it’s that wretched LV.

    • @Biting Panda

It’s the huge collar that’s hanging me up.

    • KinoEye

She is making me like all kinds of weirdness I probably wouldn’t like otherwise. Even though she’s been in tricky outfits this whole poledance, I haven’t thought any of them have overwhelmed her. She has learned how to WEAR clothes, that’s for sure. It helps that her hair and makeup have been spot on for the most part. She looks gorgeous here, if a bit wan and Elvis-like.

      • alyce1213

I feel the same. I’m admiring her daring choices, she’s making them work. A breath of fresh air from the usual.

    • formerlyAnon

Trade the shoes up for roller skates and it’s the gal at the roller rink who found The Most Amazing Drill Team Jacket at Goodwill. In maybe 1979?

But when she flashes that big smile it all works for me. Perplexing, but true. Perhaps my endocrine system is preparing me for the Crone/Grandma phase of life where I walk around telling everyone under 45 what a beautiful smile they have.

    • Sarah

Cigarette Pants and Jazzy Sandals! And a Nap!

    • Jessica Freeman

Can’t unsee Elvis pantsuit reference now. In need of coordinating bell bottoms.

    • decormaven

It’s sort of Funky Majorette to me, but dang if she hasn’t been pulling the yeoman’s weight in shilling for this movie.

    • quiltrx

That top is Elvis-tastic! I wonder what the bottom of it looks like. I think it might have looked better with pants.
      And I love the clutch.
ETA: I see it’s all connected, now. Totally the designer’s fault that the ‘top’ and ‘skirt’ don’t quite mesh!

    • uprightcitizen

I’m seeing more Evel Knievel than Elvis. Doesn’t she looks like she’s got a matching helmet and as soon as her bike is ready she’s going to jump the Grand Canyon?

    • hughman

“Look buddy, just make a decision ok? It’s either french fries or a salad. I’ve been working this shift since dinosaurs roamed the Earth and I don’t have time for your lallygagging. So what’s it gonna be?”

      • Sarah

Salad. And I totes want to go to this restaurant.

    • Sophie

Ooh, shiny! I’m glad she chose a plain skirt to go with the disco ball, or it would have been too much. She looks lovely, if tired. The clutch seems to have golden edges, I’m not sure they go with the rest.

      • Wink

Totally agree… head-to-toe shiny would have been way too much! She looks gorgeous. I just wish she’d go back to a short hairstyle. She and a few others (like Sharon Stone and Halle Berry) really look best with shorter hair.

    • Fräulein K.

I liked the top so much better as Adrian’s gown on Katharine Hepburn.

      • Jackie4g

That was my first thought. Then I thought no one would get the reference. Thank you!

    • Patrick Cleary

That clutch is fabulous, and with a maxi-skirt, the top would have been perfect.

    • MYCN

The top is a copy of Katharine Hepburn’s (Tracy Lord) dress in The Philadelphia Story.

    • mjmiller77

I actually like to top and bottom together, but can’t sign off on the huge elvis lapel. eek! and her hair looks like she just crawled outta bed.

    • alyce1213

I’m surprised — I like it more than I think I should. And I really like that she’s trying interesting fashions on the RC and she’s taking risks.
She’s the one to do it, with her poise and beauty.

    • Windswept

That top is a absolute homage (rip off?) of the dress Katherine Hepburn wore in The Philadelphia Story. That dress was designed by Adrian but it was a full length gown and it was gorgeous darlings. Gorgeous.

      • vitaminC

        Woah, great catch and mega-like.

      • KinoEye

Good eyes! That makes this look, and her, even more awesome.

    • MilaXX

I agree with everything the uncles say about this outfit and yet I still like it. I’m not crazy about the Elvis-y lapel but I don’t mind the glittery top.

    • vitaminC

I just can’t with that vagina dentata zipper.

      • KinoEye

Ahahahaha. “Vagina dentata zipper.” Love it.

        • vitaminC

          :^E

    • Kbear

That top is a COPY of the dress Katharine Hepburn wore to her wedding party in the Philadelphia Story. Gown was by Adrian. Sheesh.

      • Myra Amler

        Katharine looked fabulous

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I have to say I really like this, but I think the belt is what’s throwing it off.

    • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

      What tits?

    • Ginmaru

What if she had Elvis inspired granny panties under the skirt?

    • conniemd

The top would look great with a pair of skinny black pants or a floor length skirt. But I don’t think the problem with the skirt is that it’s A-line, but rather that it’s got a dull matte finish.

    • LaSylphide

I like it, which is a surprise because I don’t usually like cheesy glitz, but this is fun and it fits her well.

    • Ashleigh

      love it!

    • what not

I love this! It’s the red carpet version of business casual.

    • Sunraya

I actually don’t mind the clothes, but she needs to brush her hair and put on some makeup that helps her look awake!

    • kat89

She always looks over it and exhausted. And depressed. Always depressed.

    • altalinda

Her hair looks like a wig, so that’s not good.

    • SierraDelta

      Ugh. Too much shininess.

    • Judih1

Despite all the sparklers, she looks dreary not cheery. From the waist down and neck up is just plain boring. The shirt coulda been if paired with the right bottom. OUT

    • Robin

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
      You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear

    • demidaemon

This looks like something you wear to an expensive country western bar. In other words, I hate it.

    • Gatto Nero

I like the top on her. Would have been better paired with a cool pant and a killer pair of shoes.

    • andi56

That top looks like it’s from Elvis’ Vegas days.

    • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

Third pic down where she is smiling – girl, do THAT.
Top is FABULOUS and I WANT.

    • CT14

      Her hair needs life.

    • GeoDiva

What’s with the knot in the belt with all the LV outfits this past few weeks? Its annoying that everyone who wears their clothes is doing that same belt trick.

    • St. Ace

Petition to have Jennifer Connelly’s and Lily Collin’s eyebrows star in a movie together.

      • Rachael G

That already happened – it was called Stuck In Love, and they play mother and daughter (though Jennifer, imo, looked more like her big sister).

    • SorayaS

      LOVE IT!!

    • Dagney

      70’s chic…LOVE

    • Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

      Those are Skeletor’s legs

      • Sylvia

Really? I see muscle tone in the thighs and calves, she clearly works out and has good legs for her age. Can we please not body-snark in either direction, it’s mean and counter-productive.

I love the outfit, not so much the belt though. I think it would look better matte, the shiny top and shiny belt are a bit too much.

    • RussellH88

I love this, embrace your inner Jareth.

Next, I want big hair and a codpiece!

    • Lani A. George

I love the look. If you put a stronger bottom with that top, it would be clashing and overpowering, wouldn’t it?

    • MartyBellerMask

      This would be a no.

    • Shawn EH

Love it! Only the hair needed Diana Ross cascades of curls to really sell the disco fabulous vibe.

    • melanie0866

      Disagree. I likey.

    • holla

this is a dress. you can tell from the close up shot of the clutch, where the belt sits is the seam of the top and bottom, and the zipper running through it.

    • Clash D

Love the dress. Not loving the head, something’s off with her hair or make up.
