January Jones in Schumacher at the Lucky Magazine FABB Conference

Posted on April 07, 2014

Darlings we are currently – like, at this very second – taking off our shoes in public and allowing strangers to touch us (aka, “flying”) so that we can get on out to L.A. in time for our reading and signing tomorrow night. In other words, we’re having a bitch of a Monday morning.

So we thought we’d start off with something sunny and pretty and spring-like and fun in order to get us all up and ready to face the dawn, so to speak. Since we couldn’t find anything like that, here’s January Jones, heading out to the curb to pick up the morning paper:

“Mad Men” actress January Jones attends the Lucky FABB: Fashion and Beauty Blog Conference in Beverly Hills, California in a Schumacher look paired with white Gianvito Rossi pumps.

She doesn’t believe in bedroom slippers.

I suddenly have an urge for oatmeal topped with fresh blueberries

    • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE that coat and I WANT those earrings, but she should have worn it similar to the runway with pants because those shorts underneath a long coat look stupid.

Also, I’m just pretending that her hair stylist had a death in the family (probably his 10 y/o chihuahua “Dixie”) so he was unable to be there, so she said, “the show must go on” and went with her workout hair.

    • deelup

I wished I looked like this in my bathrobe.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

If Betty had stayed in the suburbs, this would be the perfect duster for drinking coffee with the girls.

      • editrixie

And maybe skeet-shooting in the backyard?

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

That pattern is giving me a headache.

      • Ginger

It’s certainly not helping my Monday morning hangover. *BLERG*

      • Stella Zawistowski

I was going to say “I’m okay with it in small quantities,” but then I looked at the model photo and even just the pair of shorts by itself is enough to scramble my eyeballs.

        • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Its the visual feedback thing that is killing it for me, Maybe I might like it better if she wasn’t standing in front of a glaringly white backdrop.

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

It looks cheap, like Project-Runway-alum-for-Tarzhay cheap.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

      Her face is amazing.

      • Spicytomato1

I was thinking the same thing, she looks like she hasn’t aged a day since MM premiered however many years ago.

I like the ensemble, too, although I would have preferred the pants to the shorts, I think.

      • MM4321

Was just thinking the same thing! With that face, she can wear all the housecoats she wants! Gorge.

      • SugarSnap108

Her face is flawless. Like Photoshopped-magazine-cover flawless.

And I really like that coat, though I prefer it with the white pants.

      • sundaynightaddict

And that makeup is perfection. I heart a bold lip.

    • MilaXX

I actually like this on her I think the version with the white capris looks better, but I’m not hating this look.

    • NBG

Wow, if ever an outfit screamed “Monday Morning before coffee,” this is it. Try again, dear. From scratch, nothing here is salvageable.

    • Anna

      Safe travels!

Confession: This is pretty much my default hairstyle. My daily process being: getting up at 6:45, instead of 6, AGAIN, trying to eat breakfast and make my lunch at the same time, shit I snagged my tights and omg why don’t I have a clean pair, and the bus is going to be here in 10 minutes.

This is seriously the best her styling team (emphasis on TEAM) could come up with?!?!

    • Jessica Freeman

I thought, that coat would look so much better with white pants…scroll down and realize yep, I was right. The shorts look like gym shorts. No.

    • NMMagpie

Just because all the pieces are made in the same fabric does not mean you need to wear them together.

    • Alyssa_T_Robot

don’t be mad uncles, but i’m totally in like with this ;-) especially her head, her head looks great.

    • jw_ny

what fabulous way to do the washing and ironing….ah, the lives of celebs…

    • mrspotts66

i’d love to see this jacket with white cropped skinny pants and some cute flats.
      i’m intrigued by the earrings.

    • @Biting Panda

Is she going to shoot pigeons again?

      • schadenfreudelicious

She just needs a smoke dangling from her lips and she’s there…

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Cute earrings, but even my irrational love of all things polka-dotted cannot overcome the weirdness of this look.

    • Hermione

I like the earrings. Anyone know anything about them?

      • Sarah

No but they are neato, huh? I am intrigued….

      • Darva Sutra

Dior, fabulous and expensive! They also come in pearl, rose quartz, onyx, malachite, etc., and you can mix match fronts and backs! I’m hard-core coveting and this is high on my DIY list this month!!

      • MilaXX

I’ve seen them on a few fast fashion sites. They’re fake ear plugs.

      • colleenjanel

Mise en Dior … and a few enterprising folks on Etsy have already jumped on the style. ;-)

      • LiddyM

I will confess, I have these earrings and wear them all the time to my fairly conservative office. I love it – people see them and do a double take, I assume thinking they are plugs. If they dare to ask, I struggle to not haughtily say (sometimes failing…) – “they’re Dior, bitches!”

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

It’s a cute and expensive morning ‘greet the poolboy’ outfit. I actually like it and wish some of the rich ol’ biddies in this town dressed like this more often. I am so tired of pricey running clothes everywhere I look! Anyhoo, I covet those earrings.

      • Spicytomato1

“I am so tired of pricey running clothes everywhere I look!”

Your comment reminds me of a fellow mom on the school playground a few years ago who apparently decided she’d had enough of the fleece and athletic wear uniform and decided to “glam” it up a bit with a nice coat, nice jeans, makeup and a fresh new hairstyle. It seriously upset the usual order of the playground and it was interesting to note that within a few weeks she as back to her old look. Too much effort, I’m guessing, to keep it up.

    • Gatto Nero

Her face looks fresh and relaxed. I actually don’t mind the hair here.
And I don’t mind the coat, but (as others have noted) it would be better with the white pant and a different shoe. The shorts under the longer coat look odd, like she forgot to get dressed and just threw on a pair of pumps to make herself presentable.

    • par3182

She’s at the Fashion and Beauty Blog Conference – she probably thought everyone would be pale and in their pjs.

    • Lori

These pieces shouldn’t be worn together. I have no idea why she thought that they should.

    • colleenjanel

That coat with white skinny capris (but not the texturized pair on the model) and a pair of cute bright flats (lime green? hot pink? a bright unexpected color). LOVE the earrings (WANT!) and really like the Barbie pink lipstick on her. .

    • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana F.

      I don’t know… I think I weirdly like this.

      • TwiddlyStun

I like it, too. I felt like I shouldn’t like the print shorts matching the print with the jacket (instead of as shown on the models with solid pieces), but it turns out looking less streetwear and more fashion to me with the long over short. In other words, while I would never wear it like this, I like that she did.

    • ScarlettHarlot

Solid blue shorts and this would have been better, to me. I love the print, though! Lichtenstein realness!

    • Vanessa Reyes

I think she should have kept the white pants. It’s almost like a modern 2014 take on Betty Draper. Kind of like what the Uncles said about Jessica Pare at the Mad Men Season 7 LA Premier.

    • decormaven

The pants paired with the jacket would have been a solid win for me. I keep flashing on an old commercial for natural gas where the illustrated spokesperson had a blue flame for hair. This hairdo closely resembles that.
Bon voyage, dear uncles! We should have chipped in and gotten you a vintage Pan Am carryon to get you ready for S7 of Mad Men. Safe travels!

    • amanda siegelson

i think she looks amazing. i love all of it. and i can not wait until sunday! i’m positively giddy!

    • lbl

Pairing two things with the same print together and calling it an outfit is so damn lazy. Stylist, this is your job. Put some effort into it, please.

    • marlie

The jacket is cute, but not with the shorts. I also really like her earrings, and her makeup is ok, but I don’t like her hair color or the topknot. And white shoes are awful.

    • Denise Rambo

I only like January Jones when she channels her inner Betty Draper.

    • FrigidDiva

Neck up makes me think of Gwen Steffani, neck down looks like something I’d have worn during the last few weeks of my pregnancy, minus the white heels.

    • teensmom99

I see this as a fun play on early Betty style. Kind of her wackadoo-overly modern fashion-y clothes mixed with 1961 Betty . . . & on those terms, it works. On any one else, it would just be wackadoo.

    • MaggieMae

Swap the shorts out for the white capris, change the shoes, and I’m in love.

    • Richard Harper

When, oh, when will exposed zippers stop being a thing? It makes everything look like it came from a charity shop — although granted, nothing could save this schmatta.

    • jilly_d

Yes, it’s a house coat, but I like it anyway. Kinda wish she would have kept the white knickers.

    • http://www.beautifymylifeblog.com Jessica

I actually like both of the outfits on the models, but the combo of the two is no bueno. That said, her face is stunning.

    • Kent Roby

Polka dots often look too “precious” to me, but I love this version. Also, I assume the no-white-shoes-between-Labor-Day-and Easter rule has been completely discarded?

      • IMNAngryLiberal

What! Discard the only fashion rule I learned growing up? I hardly think so, Mister! And those particular white shoes with that particular outfit should be banned year ’round.

        • Kent Roby

I asked because I always get all Serial Mom when I see the rule violated, but I wondered if the rule got skewed with the advent (religious pun!) of “winter white”.

          • IMNAngryLiberal

I loved that movie and instantly knew that Patty Hearst was a goner when she took the witness stand in those shoes. (My mom and Serial Mom had an uncomfortable amount of things in common.) Seriously though, that fashion rule is also a goner…although I rarely see a positive comment here about white shoes, no matter what the season.

    • flamingoNW

The color and pattern suit her like crazy, but with the shorts instead of the pants….not so much.

    • Janet B

I love polka-dots, but I’m not even liking this.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

OY!!! This could have been such a cute look if only it had been styled correctly.

    • kategs

      I love that coat!

    • Fuchsiaforever

      She looks comfy

    • Danielle

That’s some porcelain skin, miss Jones.

    • rissa42210

I love this. She is serving some Litchenstein realness! Someone get her a beach ball and a distressed facial expression STAT!

    • helene

i think it’s hysterical that the italicized caption to the photo is “January Jones….in a Schumacher look” like they weren’t even sure what it was – bathrobe, housecoat, dress, hot pants, whatever. I think i might have liked it better if the waistline (dropped?) was somehow accentuated more.

    • Sophie

I rather like the coat with the trousers, not so much with the shorts. Blue really suits her well.

    • KT

Haha, you bitches. I think this is cute!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Call me crazy, but even with that big ass zipper – I love everything about this. Even the white shoes are working.

    • tonibaloney

Those earrings creep me out. Great color but the backings look like tumorous.

    • MartyBellerMask

Uh-oh. I think they sprinkled Carpet Fresh then forgot to vacuum it up. WHOOPS.

    • BrooklynBomber

How weird. But kind of cute. If not exactly right.

    • Dagney

      She looks adorable. IN.

    • Leah Elzinga

Yellow hair elastic? For real? Why do myself and JJ have the same hair today? That is NOT a good thing.

    • RawrArgh

I don’t know if this is reaching or not, but that print makes me feel like the outfit is an ode to Lichtenstein.

    • Trickytrisha

Cute, though cheap plastic looking, earrings. Nice face and hair. Silly as hell sleep shorts. Jury’s still out on the housecoat.

    • snarkykitten

She looks like how Betty Francis would look now if she was preggo with Eugene.

    • demidaemon

It’s a look. That hair, though. Another bad hair week, it seems.

    • deech_sea

I love the polka dots. She looks cute!

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

Loving her hair and makeup last few weeks… Vert current / retro Tippi Hedren vibe!

    • somebody blonde

      What an odd pairing.

    • Columbinia

Good call, T Lo. It *is* jammies and a house coat. Time to fire the stylist.

    • formerlyAnon

I like the coat but, irrationally, the hair is making me think of the Cyndi-Lou Who child’s hairstyle in the Jim Carey version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

    • AutumnInNY

      Breakfast with January.
