Drew Barrymore and Ciara at the Safe Kids Day Event

Posted on April 07, 2014

And now, a short, one-act, two-woman play.

Drew Barrymore and Ciara attend the Safe Kids Day Event 2014 held at The Lot in West Hollywood, California.

Drew: Hey, C!

Ciara: Hey, D! What’s up?

Drew: Oh, y’know. Pregnant. You?

Ciara. Same. I love your flats.

Drew! Thanks! I love your slip-ons! They look fun. And comfy.

Ciara: Thanks! They are.

So… you opted for pants.

Drew: Yeah. I was feeling ambitious.

Ciara: Pfft. Girl, save your ambition for your career. I’m not dealing with waistbands at the moment. The rest of the world needs to just get in line.

Drew: You’re my hero. Panties?

Ciara: Up to my tits.

Drew: Awesome.

Considering Drew is due any day now and Ciara is not far behind. That conversation may actually have happened in real life. Bless them both they look as lovely as ready to pop mommies can.

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Doing the mommy to be thing right down to the ground, and I love them both for it.

      • Monabel

        Not much choice…

    • Tracy M

The only thing worse than being that pregnant is being that pregnant in August.

      • SewingSiren

Or two weeks overdue in August, don’t ask me how I know.

        • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Been there, done that. Spent every waking minute in the pool. Still hated it.

          • shopgirl716

Pregnant on Labor Day when it’s 107 degrees, horrible. And I admire them both for making it out to this event. When I was that pregnant I was far too bitchy to present myself at these sort of functions.

      • Ginger

Amen, sister. My oldest was born the last part of August….in Texas.

        • conniemd

I can’t imagine. Mine was born a couple of days before labor day. August was a horrible humid month here in the NE and my ankles and feet were so swollen from retaining water.

        • formerlyAnon

Yup. My son was born at the end of June. In San Antonio.

Thank the gods for air conditioning.

      • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Mine were June 10, August 25th and Sept. 22nd. I hear you in every way possible.

        • Ginger

I share a birthday with your June baby! ‘Twas a good day…

          • Meghan Kovelsky

August 21st. It was so damn hot.

        • Rhonda Shore

Mine was born August 25th as well…but i was lucky — it was an unseasonably cool summer.

        • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

          My sympathies….true misery…

        • Danielle

July 30th here. Swelled up like a balloon.

      • SugarSnap108

My friend was 8 months pregnant with twins in August. In NYC, with no AC, in a 3rd-floor walk-up. She’s my hero.

      • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

I hear you. Had 13 lbs. In the middle of June, in Florida. I honestly thought I was going to have stretch marks on my ankles because of how swollen my feet were.

      • Sarah

My oldest nephew was born August 27. After 10 months (that’s right! TEN MONTHS PREGNANT!) I was with my sister the week before, and she was like another person I’ve never seen since. A very nasty, bitchy person. I forgave her, of course, but it was frightening.

        • oldscrumby

I took ten months! Made all the worse by my aunt who at was pregnant at the same time with amazonian god-spawn, and bigger at eight months than my mom was at nine and a half. Aunty got all the sympathy much to my mother’s irritation.

      • zenobar

Preach. You kind of lose all will to, y’know, move.

    • RussellH88

Am I the only one who thought Drew Barrymore already had the baby?

Or is this a new one?

      • marlie

Her first baby is about one and a half (according to Wikipedia).

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

She’s been very pregnant for a few months and it has felt like a really long time, but not long enough to have had the baby and become very pregnant again.

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Just like my Mom. Or as the saying goes: “Irish Twins”. :)

      • Jacob Bowen

        The eternal pregnancy.

        • ScarlettHarlot

With the women in my family (even in-laws, not immediate family) they all took forever to form a bump during their first pregnancy, but with the second it was like someone had inflated a basketball under their shirt about 6 weeks in, so they seemed to be pregnant longer just because it was more visibly evident for longer. I don’t know if Ciara has had kids before, but since this was Drew’s second I suspect she might have had the same second-pregnancy-insta-bump experience as my relatives.

          • Jacob Bowen

Yeah, my cousin is 6’1″ and when she was pregnant with her first child she was proportionately REALLY small, but with her second and third she used to say it was an exercise ball under her shirt cause WOW they were big kids.

    • SewingSiren

Someone at Casa TLo listens to their sisters.

    • @Biting Panda

      Amazing!
      They are friggin adorable.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

They both look great and happy, and I don’t blame Drew for pulling that sue-me-I-don’t-care card now, but I have to give Ciara some extra points for how flawless she looks here. Amazing face, hair, nails. And if her shirt is wrinkled, you can’t tell the way you can with Drew’s.

      • Kayceed

I agree – her grooming is superlative. It’s a casual look but she clearly put thought and effort into it. She looks fantastic.

      • decormaven

Claps for sure for Ciara – love how the nails pick up the red of the skimmers. And kudos to Drew for making the appearance- her due date must be nigh.

    • FrigidDiva

I am SO glad to finally see some pregnant ladies on the RC wearing comfortable footwear and not stilletoes. I want both pairs of shoes, so wonderfully Springy.

    • Kelly

Nope. Drew’s wrinkled shirt is not coming across as an adorable moment of “look what an ordinary, real person I am.” It’s just coming across as sloppy and dismissive of the venue. “Can’t be fucking bothered” is never an attractive look to me.

      • Julie Ree

Maybe she can’t see that far down right now.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Drew looks ready for the delivery room, and that day when once again she will see her very own toes.

          • demidaemon

Yeah, I can’t really rag on her for anything at this point. Instead, I will say that I like her shoes better than Ciara’s.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes,I’m all for cutting these ladies slack. I will note that Ciara has the advantage of her height. As one of my college friends who was 5ft 1inch once said, when you’re short, there is no place for that baby weight to go but out.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

I had two children and would never have gone to the market looking like Drew does. On my way to deliver my son. I stopped and had a manicure. (Granted, it was a c-section and I wasn’t in labor.) Did she just reach into her clothes hamper and pick something without stains?

    • marlie

If Drew’s shirt were ironed, and Ciara were wearing pants/shorts/a skirt, I’d have no complaints. Otherwise, a couple of cute mamas. I’d like to imagine that they’re already planning play dates for the future.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

If it isn’t crushed, how will people know it’s linen?

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I like to look at linen. It’s so pretty. I refuse to wear it, however.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I love linen shirts & dresses. Not pants, those creases that look like your crotch has whiskers bug me! But the more you wash it, the less it creases.

    • Anna

Freaking adorable, I need a pair of Ciara’s slip-ons. But I love the hypothetical conversation most of all.

    • Jessica Freeman

It’s nice to see a more realistic version of pregnancy clothes. They both look great. At least in some of the shots you can tell there is some sort of waistband to the shirt dress. All the credit to them for even showing up, especially Drew.

    • luludexter

I love Drew Barrymore. But I do wish she’d ironed her shirt.

    • Kent Roby

Is Ciara indicating that she’s carrying twins, or just giving a peace sign?

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Atta Mommies! At this stage, screw fashion, go for comfy and rely on the fact that you’re super cute right now.

    • teensmom99

I think I heard there was another line: DB: “Yeah, I had the cutest shirt on and then my 1 1/2 yo put her sticky hands all over it and i had to leave the house in seconds so I threw on this shirt from the top of the laundry basket. Yup, if it weren’t for the night nurse and 2 nannies, I don’t know how I’m going to manage with 2 kids so close together.”

    • Scimommy

If I were preggers again, I’d want Ciara’s face and Drew’s outfit (with shirt ironed by my minions, which I would have many of because I’d have Ciara’s face).

    • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE Ciara’s men’s button up shirt dress, that looks PERFECT for pregnancy…especially when she gets home, sits on the couch and unbuttons all of the buttons to relax. It would only be made better by snaps (which are what I’m giving for her and Drew). Drew needs no comment. I always love her, and always will. 50 First Dates FOREVER.

    • titaness25

Drew: “Ain’t nobody got time for ironing when you’ve got one about to pop.”

      Ciara: “Amen and alady.”

    • Kitten Mittons

Seeing them all glowy is working my baby alarm up into overdrive.

Love the shirt dress and the comfy shoes, and they are both troopers.

    • stubbornthoughts

The shirt Drew is wearing, from the side angle, looks like the biggest shirt in the entire world.

      They both look adorable.

    • JP

      *dying over the dialogue*

    • Fuchsiaforever

      HAHHAHAHA, love it Uncles!

    • unbornfawn

Love Love Love seeing pregnant celebrities in comfortable shoes for a change!

    • BLauD

All the mentioning of Drew’s non-ironed shirt… I just think it may very well have been ironed at one point, but getting a shirt on, then in a car and buckled, and sitting and standing and moving… yeah, that doesn’t last. I remember with all three of my pregnancies, it didn’t matter what I did, I looked a hot mess in about 3 seconds flat. So glad they both went the comfy and cute route, perfect for this time and event.

    • Danielle

Shoutout to the underwear up to the tits. That’s the TRUTH.

    • Khristeni

No, no! No compliments for utterly sloppy mom-to-be looks. Maybe the looks are ok for a regular, non-celebrity MTB to run to the store, but to wear to an event? With gobs of cash and stylists at your disposal? NO excuse. I looked better running errands in my Target maternity wear — and more stylish. Sorry, ladies. Y’all are making pregnant women look bad.

      • formerlyAnon

        Girl, you are STRICT! ;-)

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      AAANNNNND scene!

    • GeoDiva

      Amen for the flats Ladies!

    • Trickytrisha

      Drew’s given up.

    • deech_sea

Having been there and done that myself, I have to say if they feel like abandoning fashion in favor of comfort–especially when they are this far along–I fully empathize.

    • formerlyAnon

I officially will love Ms. Barrymore FOREVER. She is on the red carpet in an ensemble identical (though perhaps at a higher price point) to the one I wore during my pregnancies. AND it’s wrinkled. None of this standing around carefully not sitting or leaning shit for her.

    • macwell

God bless em’ both, but….ummm….does Drew’s face look different to anyone else? I can’t place it, but yeah….?

    • paintedfish

everything you just said regarding pregnancy is so true.

    • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

Ugh. As a mom of three that gained eighty pounds with each pregnancy (don’t judge – it’s ROUGH creating human life!) I feel these sisters’ pain. They look cute – but damn! They cannot WAIT to not be pregnancy anymore!!!

    • Carolyne

Ciara’s shoes are WAY cute for a pregnant woman. I hate seeing pregnant women in heels – it’s beyond uncomfortable and borderline dangerous. Her dress is also stylish and comfy looking and they’re both dressed just right for this kind of event. A+ for Ciara and Drew is close behind.
