Andrew Garfield Style Double Shot

Posted on April 15, 2014

You know what? We can’t give this look anything but respect. Oh, sure, from the waist up he’s nothing to write home about…

But when was the last time a boystar had the nerve to wear a pair of floral pants? It’s impossible for us to hate.

He should shave, though. Or grow a full beard. He’s not someone who can rock the stubble.

This is just okay. Love the suit, but the state of that shirt is appalling to us.

Tsk. Shave, dammit.

  • Mothra

Those pants in the second look look a little snug in the crotchal region.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Well, if he took his Hand Out Of His Pocket, perhaps it wouldn’t be so tight. But you’re so right. Too snug by a size. (ahem)

      • Mothra

Good call. Let me put MY hand in his pocket and see if it looks better.

    • SugarSnap108

That jumped out at me immediately. So to speak.

    • Kent Roby

Well, he does have a rather cocky expression in that photo!

    • Kitten_Mittens

Not that we were looking or anything…

  • LeelaST

Is it the same shirt as under the sweater? I mean, why pack an extra one?

    • melisaurus

It looks like the first is striped and the second is solid. My eyes/computer could be playing tricks on me.

  • Gatto Nero

Loving the floral pants and Chuck Taylors.
The suit’s great, too, but it’s calling for a sharp shirt.

    • decormaven

Truly a missed opportunity on the second look – the tailoring suits him, but that shirt looks like it was pulled from the laundry hamper.

  • Glam Dixie

I like the idea of floral pants more than those actual floral pants.

    • Watterson

Agreed. They look less like floral and more like sad charcoal camo.

      • melisaurus

Sad wallpaper in a funeral home.

      • Eric Stott

Great if you want to hide in a pile of dead flowers.

      • CT14

I liked them more when I realized they were floral.

        Camo is so played.

    • hyperionic

Well I can’t imagine how else floral pants on a man would work.

      • Glam Dixie

What’s the point of going there with floral pants on a man if you’re just going to grey them into a camo-esqe oblivion? I don’t know what I would like better, I just know I don’t like these.

    • Danielle

I think I’m in your camp. I love them, but I’m more in love with the idea.

  • Kiltdntiltd

Now, I must admit that Mr G is someone who’s charms escape me utterly. That said I give him major props for wearing floral pants, even though that are gray. Now when he sports some cabbage rose printed pants in lilac and puce, I might get on board with him. (kidding, really, just kidding).

    • Kent Roby

If he did wear such a pair of pants, I would assume that he borrowed them from the divine Alan Cumming.

  • Janet B

The pants are fantastic, but the beard and shirts are sad.

  • lunchcoma

I really hate the first look. The floral pants are cool by themselves, but I think they pair very badly with the baggy sweater, untucked shirt tail, and Chucks. It took me a few glances before I realized they weren’t jeans with a really dated looking stonewash.

  • Imasewsure

The shirt is awful but I love love that V&R suit and it fits him perfectly… those pants in look #1, just no

    • Imasewsure

Actually I think I like the first look too… it’s fun and the shoes make it work somehow… but I like this kid… he seems normal and kind of fun

  • @Biting Panda

Lady pants and a hipster suit. Next.

  • nannypoo

He always has that damn stubble. Ick.

    • juniper

he must calendar his shaving so that he has the. same.amount. of. stubble for each appearance. “no more and no less”

      • nannypoo

I’ve been wondering how that’s done. You would think that it would grow longer and at some point he would have to shave, but it appears to be perpetually this length every time we see him. Do you think he stays home on alternate days?

      • AnaRoW

I figure he’s either one of those that needs to shave more than once per day and doesn’t. Or it’s the opposite and that’s as long as he can grow it. Truthfully though, it doesn’t bother me. I wouldn’t have noticed it if there weren’t so many complaints on this board.

        • juniper

I personally like this look. My boyfriend has a short beard- but he maintains it that way and cleans his neck.

My real point was that this look may not be for RC. If women are expected to paint their faces to perfection then I think the least men can do is shave/groom their face hairs.

It’s really a non-issue for me except the thought of him saying “no- my trimmer flipped out and I am clean shaven- so I can’t be seen in public today” is amusing.

          • AnaRoW

I get what you’re saying although he doesn’t look as if he’s not groomed to me. I’m not as particular about how women are groomed either. I figure either I like something or I don’t. I struggle to get into particulars. I really don’t care that much about matchy shoes, a few hairs out of place, etc. I really have no business being on this site but I do love it.

  • Ashleigh

He’s an anomaly to me…in one outfit (the Valentino pants)(PS LOVE a guy who wears Chuck Taylors) he looks kinda buff. In the suit, he looks skinny. Which is it? I’m going to need to see him naked (or in undies, I don’t care) to advise on either of these outfits (parentheses).

    • demidaemon

I could get behind the naked part. My guess, though, from glances, is that he is skinny buff, as in very slim with defined musculature.

      • Ashleigh

This is basically a really stupid comment on part seeing as he has made a living sporting the TIGHTEST jumpsuit ever!!

  • Julie Parr

It’s a pretty manly floral though, right? I thought it was camo at first.

  • kimmeister

Those skinny burgundy pants would look so much better without the cuff. Or the stain on one knee.

  • TwiddlyStun

And while we have your attention, Andrew, one other thing. Shavity shave shave shave.

  • LadyVimes

The socklessness makes the second look for me. The sweater in the first is…unflattering. Total agreement re: shaving.

  • deltabronze

Re his shirts. He has a very long neck and would look ever so much better in collars that were not so narrow. The contrast just makes his neck look longer.

    • Qitkat

He probably could have rocked that turtle on the model. Ixnay on all limp white shirts.

  • Lex

Re: maroon suit. I think it’s the brown shoes that make my eyes twitch. I just think black shoes would have pulled it together better. Obviously the shirt is a nightmare- that goes without saying.

  • Eric Stott

I Googled Andrew Garfield Beard…….and believe me, the stubble is preferable. His beard is pure Slacker Frat Boy.

    • Alicia

      I suspect clean-shaven he looks about 14.

  • MilaXX

I like both of these looks. The first look is a pretty bold move for someone who is not RDJ or Alan Cummings. Second look needs a better shirt, but I like the shoes and suit.

  • Amelia Ross

With that stubble he’s starting to look like Joshua Jackson. If joshua jackson wore floral pants. Which I wish he would.

  • gloriana232

Ugh, LOVE the suit. The jacket looks pretty much like perfection, but the fit of the pants is … off.

  • deelup

These looks give him a little bit of personality which he isn’t normally able to project in photos. So well done.

  • demidaemon

I’m enjoying the hint of chest in the second look and the overall combination in the first. YUM.

I’m obviously feeling very shallow at the moment.

  • TM

I wish he would pair those phenomenal pants with his co-star Dane’s printed shirt. Just for fun.

(I saw Boy A in high school. Since then, Andrew Garfield can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. He’s a precious puppy and I can’t even.)

  • GeoDiva

    Ho Hum……

  • marlie

No way to the pants in the first look. NO. I love the suit in the second look, and if the shirt situation were fixed, this would be a solid A for him.

  • quiltrx

Agreed on the shaving…it must be done. Love the suit, and I like the floral pants. He needs some SERIOUS shirt-training, though.

  • icm

It is a constant amazement to me when someone of rather average looks is stratospherically catapulted to the level of hotness merely by their association with a hit movie or two. Don’t get me wrong he is kind of a cute guy in his own way (a little dweebish). But lets be honest. Most of these boy stars and starlets would hardly garner a passing glimpse if they were working at McDonalds or folding sweaters at the mall.Seems to me popularity in Hollywood makes you sexy.

I’ll kill for those floral pants. And the Converse.

  • ThaliaMenninger

  • MannahattaMamma

Floral pant Fabulosity. And love the color of the suit and that he wants to wear it (or let someone talk him into it). But my 9 year old son knows how to deal with his shirt under a jacket better than this tootsie pop. God gave you buttons for a reason, son. Use them.

  • kmk05

I like the floral pants, but not with that fuzzy sweater or those Converse.

Is it terrible that I am really attracted to the flash of ankle we can see in look 2? I WISH FOR A FLASH OF ANKLE WITH THE FLORAL PANTS, JENNIE.

  • Patrick Cleary

I think the stubble is the boystars’ way of saying, “Please give me a grown-up role, Hollywood!” Same as the girlstars’ getting pixie cuts after a few teen roles in their 20s.

  • Jacob Bowen

I think the neck area is weird on the first outfit; I don’t like how the collars play together. The solution to the shirt problem on the second outfit is to just button one more button, easy fix.

  • cocohall

I should have better things to do with my time, but I googled him to find out his age and stumbled across a photo where his hair was brushed down and across his forehead. (He is 30 by the way. I wouldn’t have pegged him a day over 23.) He looks completely different, and having his hair frame his face makes him quite a bit cuter (but even younger). There was also one photo of him with a buzz cut and I think we can all agree that’s not the route to take. I think the problem with his penchant for appearing unshaved in public is due to the fact that it is at odds with what must be a massive amount of hair product and effort to get his hair to defy gravity. This same issue extends to his clothes. He gets it halfway right with some interesting pieces, but fails to go the distance and put together a complete adult look. I’m sorry, but Chucks on a 30 year old man sporting floral pants with a rumpled mess of a sweater and untucked shirt is not cool or effortless. It is just half-assed. The boat is leaving sir. Jump aboard or wave from the dock. You are fronting a major action hero franchise and pocketing a big check.

  • twocee

I like the suit but this boy just oozes “douche.”

  • Liza Ortiz

why is he wearing lady pants?
