Zosia Mamet in Peter Pilotto at the “Divergent” New York Screening

Posted on March 21, 2014

The shoes are just a little too on the nose, but we’re more than happy to overlook them because we love this outfit so much. And by “overlook,” we mean “mention in the very first sentence of this post,” of course.

Zosia Mamet attends the Marie Claire & The Cinema Society screening of Summit Entertainment’s “Divergent” at Hearst Tower on March 20, 2014 in New York City in a Peter Pilotto dress paired with Charlotte Olympia pumps.

Not that the shoes aren’t cute. In fact, their cuteness is fighting with the cuteness of the dress. A cuteness battle! Like a kitten in a bunny costume and a  bunny in a bumblebee costume fighting it out in a cage made out of pillows.

And doesn’t it say something about her style evolution that it inspires us to imagine kittens and bunnies? A year ago, we would’ve been referencing the honey badger. It’s always so gratifying when one of them finally gets what the red carpet is for after fighting it for so long. Our work here is done. We’re taking five before we move on to the next one.

So glad to see her in so much color. The dress looks cute and her makeup looks good. The shoes are a bit too much, but given that it looks like someone not only gave this ensemble some thought, but was willing to have it actually look like thought was given, the shoe issue is a minor quibble for what may be Zosia’s personal best.

  • @Biting Panda

Not only is Zosia giving us nearly perky personality, she is wearing a Peter Pilotto dress that doesn’t make me want to stab my eyes out. Personal triumphs all around!!

    • BLauD

I saw “Peter Pilotto” and prepared myself for the worst. How glad I was to be wrong! She looks adorable.

    • decormaven

      It’s a Christmas miracle!

    • SRQkitten

It looks like she (or stylist) improved on the dress by removing the hoops that you can see in the version the models wearing.

    • That collection is already on the clearance rack at Target. And everything is still a pass for me.

      • demidaemon

        Can’t say I’m surprised.

      • kimmeister

I just got 2 of the pieces for 70% off (both are tops).

        • Confession – later that night, I bought one of the dresses that was marked down to $14.

    • demidaemon

      I didn’t even realize it was a PP dress. It’s so…not busy.

  • PastryGoddess

Who is this and what have you done with our Zosia.

I kid. This outfit is cute and she looks amazing.

  • nannypoo

I like the dress and I don’t mind the shoes with it, although I think it’s a little too short. Her hair and makeup are good. Definitely a personal best. Now if she would just learn to pose and smile I would leave her alone. Unless, as it appears, she really is facing a firing squad. In that case I would say the pose is fine and a smile would be inappropriate.

  • Susan Velazquez

I agree, the shoes are a bit too much. Black pumps would have been better. And maybe a smile too? Come on, we know she can do it. Wasn’t her character on Mad Men a cool, upbeat lesbian type?

  • JasmineAM

I love LOVE full brows, but if she’s gonna rock them, she needs to fill them in just barely to keep them from looking patchy.

  • B_C_J

The fit is nice. The fabric is migraine-inducing.

  • JR Labrador

At least her expression still reads ‘honey badger’.

  • KinoEye

Wow. A Pilotto that doesn’t bring new meaning to the word fugly. The colors are great on her, but don’t count your chickens before they hatch, Uncles. Let’s see how well she sustains this over time.

  • Glam Dixie

I…….love this. Shoes and all. I’m so confused right now.

  • mmebam

I like the shoes, giant hoof shape notwithstanding.

    • alyce1213

I adore the linen and pink cap toe shoe, but I just can’t with the hockey puck underneath. They’s be so perfect without.

  • Alyssa

Looks who has figured out the red carpet goes along with the job description! Much improved.

  • jw_ny

I’m not even bothered by the pattens not lining up at the seams…in fact, I prefer it this way, in this case.

love the colors and print. 🙂

    • alyce1213

I think it was smart — all horizontal would have been widening. The staggering tricks the eye. It’s well done.

  • Anna

Wow. So impressed that they made the call to alter the toilet paper cover doll skirt into an actual wearable and very cute dress. The shoes don’t bug me as much as they should. Nicely done!

    • demidaemon

I know! These were my exact thoughts.

      • Anna

        Great minds!

  • MilaXX

This is pretty good for Lena. Hair and makeup look really, really good. If only she could stop wearing ALL the rings.

    • I know you meant Zosia, but yes, I think it’d be good for Lena too 😉

  • Grumpy Girl

I think she actually looks happier than the model. So there’s that: even if we can’t get a real smile from her.

Her jewelry choices suck. Earrings, necklace, bracelet, all the rings–just not wanted with this outfit. No jewelry would have actually been better–or just one item. The dress and shoes are outgoing enough to not feel the intense need for jewelry.

    • Janet B

It looks like it’s her personal jewelry not something picked out to go with the dress by a stylist.

    • SophieB210

I had to double check, they’re tiny dagger earrings. I love that for some reason; just keepin it Zosia.

  • alyce1213

I love the colors and the fit is wonderful. It’s looks much better from far away — does that make it a Monet?
For a Pilotto, it’s not too bad a dress, and for Zosia, this is a major achievement (except the shoes).

  • MannahattaMamma

why does she look so unhappy?

    • alyce1213

For her, this IS happy, comparatively.

  • lunchcoma

That’s shockingly cute. I’m so used to seeing her wearing hideous things that it’s hard for me to take it in.

  • marlie

Nice job all around. Good job, Z!

  • Sarah

‘Twas an excellent choice to fix the skirt so it doesn’t look like a windsock. And if I saw a kitten in a bunny costume and a bunny dressed as a bumblebee, I would faint dead away, so it’s a good thing there’d be pillows around in this scenario.

    • demidaemon

Once TLo summoned up that image, I wanted a Youtube video of it instantly.

    • kimmeister

Can we add a squirrel in a red panda costume? Then I’d be unconscious on the floor with you.

  • For once, I prefer the alterations from the runway! More like this, please.

  • random_poster

She looks good. Although it’s not as bad as his other stuff, the dress is still ugly. For once, she is actually making the dress look good.

  • colleenjanel

I would have much preferred the shoes without the blocks stuck to the soles. I assume those are supposed to help her reach the pedals?

  • MK03

Very wise decision to take in that ridiculous skirt on the original.

  • deelup

I just hope there’s not a padlock on the part of that necklace we can’t see.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Personal best for her. Now if she could just smile.

  • “Like a kitten in a bunny costume and a bunny in a bumblebee costume fighting it out in a cage made out of pillows.”
Lol, omg, you guys. Looks like this Friday is treating you very well.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

Someone needs to make this happen and put it on YouTube (with no harm done to the animals of course)

      • demidaemon

I just posted that same thought above!

  • Fuchaforever

Congrats Uncles! You’ve done it again! Saving the RC one post at a time! Now…if she would just fill in her eyebrows properly…I can’t stop looking at that crazy eyebrow….it’s the equivalent of Fred Savage’s big hairy mole in Austin Powers…..ugh what a distraction! I have a similar eyebrow issue (well not as extreme as hers) and a simple eyebrow pencil from smashbox does wonders!

  • kim bunchalastnames

    omigod. she looks GREAT!

  • Matt Wołoszyn

I prefer the drama of the runway silhouette but the alteration is cute on her.

  • Danielle

I really wish she had kept the hoop in the skirt.

  • NMMagpie

    Personal best.

  • MarissaLG

The dress is great for her. It’s hip, chic, and fits her well.

I HATE those shoes. To me, they look like what a former stripper would buy for her first office job interview.

  • beebee10

“Like a kitten in a bunny costume and a bunny in a bumblebee costume fighting it out in a cage made out of pillows”

YES uncles, YES!! That made my freakin’ Friday!!

    • Valdri8

Mine too. What a great post!

  • SugarSnap108

This is the cutest Peter Pilotto dress I’ve ever seen. So smart to simplify the silhouette the model is wearing. I just don’t like the addition of the lacy sleeves. And I hate the shoes–The view from above suggests a hot-pink duck bill.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

    A Peter Pilotto dress that I don’t want to shred-this is a first, fellow BK’s. Those shoes, though-I Just.can’t.

    • alyce1213

It’s a Peter Pilotto dress that doesn’t look like someone already started shredding.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        A true rarity.

        • demidaemon

  • sagecreek

At least the shoes suggest the tiniest bit of giving a fuck, which she doesn’t normally have, so there’s that.

  • queeniethebold

But … why can’t she smile? And stand up straight? She looks unhappy.

  • Jessica Freeman

The shoes would have been so much more acceptable without the hot pink hockey puck glued to the bottom.

    • willworktomorrow

I totally agree. The pucks ruin the shoes for me. (I”m trying so hard to not say “they puck up the entire look” because that is way too obvious a pun.)

  • Andrea

Her posture is now the final frontier…

  • Jacob Bowen

Would a smile kill you Zosia? I don’t even think I could frown this much if I looked that cute!

    • demidaemon

But, if she smiled in this cute of an outfit, the paparazzi would have burst into a spray of rainbows, kittens, and bunnies. It would have been Lisa Frank come to life. (I am still on my need for BRIGHT COLORS after yesterday!)

      • conniemd

Egads, a Lisa Frank reference. My daughter was totally into everything Lisa Frank from stickers to do it yourself jewelry to accessories ( I particularly remember a lunchbox that was a yowa of rainbow colors. Thanks for the memory

  • demidaemon

I actually don’t mind the whole look, and, amazingly, I am so glad she made the alterations to the skirt. Who knew she had it in her?

  • NBG

Hope you are sitting down for this, kittens, but I actually like Zosia’s look better than the model’s. The shoes actually work with her personality. Anything more sedate would have been needle scratching. No complaints.

  • Shawn EH

She and Lena both get so much better at exactly the same time? Did somebody go hire Patricia Field or something?

  • Chartreusite

A Peter Pilotto dress that isn’t tricky as hell? That’s the bigger surprise for me!

  • melanie0866

It is a cute dress. I just wish she wouldn’t always look so slouchy and resentful, like a 14-year-old on a family vacation.

    • Lilak

Indeed. When she smiles, it’s like the sun coming up.
(And from what I understand, her personality is definitely lively/smiley, not at all leaden/attitude.)

    • sagecreek

Oh, Melanie, that is the PERFECT description.

  • Glammie

Like the dress alterations–the skirt would have been impossible on her, but I wish it were about an inch or two longer–it cuts across the thighs in a way that makes them look bigger than they are. Waist could also stand to be an inch down and skoosh tighter. But good enough that I actuallly notice those sorts of things.

  • Sunraya

I know Pilotto isn’t popular here, but I do like some of his stuff. Glad she changed the silhouette of the dress. And I do love the shoes!! They pick up two of the colors, I know I would have been tempted to wear them with this dress if I were a multi-millionaire!

  • If she could just look like she was having fun…for a minute. Cause if I was wearing that dress, I would be having fun. And I’d look it.

    • conniemd

Yep, that’s why I’m totally bored with seeing her. I feel like I could do better than her on the red carpet, simply because I would enjoy it and smile and look like an interesting fun person. She looks to me like the downer at the party who only has complaints and negative things to say. I wouldn’t want to spend 5 minutes with her.

  • LaSylphide

Mamet and Lena Dunham must be giving each other slouching lessons. Great dress, though, especially considering it’s a Peter Pilotto, who usually ranks somewhere down there with Stella McCartney.

  • Tee

Cuteness battles in pillow cages . . . I cannot stop smiling. Thank you for making my day.

  • ShaoLinKitten

Now if she could only do something about that resting bitch face, she’d be all good.

  • SierraDelta

    Explain it to me:

The runway dress has short sleeves and a stiffened hi-low hem. Zosia’s has longer sleeves and a shorter standard hem. If designers who loan dresses out don’t permit alterations, how did this happen? Is Zosia’s dress an alternate version? Is it her personal dress, with changes she requested in the original version?

    Questions, Kittens, I have questions.

    • RuthGo

Could it be that they made a more out-there version for the runway and then simplified it for actual retail? That’s just a guess.

  • quiltrx

Look! It’s a wearable Pilotto! And Zosia’s rocking it! Obviously there was some special planet alignment that day.

  • murt

Like the dress but I don’t like any of those Charlotte Olympia platform shoes – they all look so ridiculous.

  • mdcoon127

Colors are good, dress is hideous – shoe is just ok

  • Judih1

    Does this woman ever smile?
