Olympia Le-Tan Spring 2014 Collection
The book ones are really cute, but not for the price I’m guessing they’re sold at.
Didn’t she do these kind of bags before? Or is this her schtick? Either way they’re too twee and one note.
I would happily carry that Leonard Bernstein one, but holy cow! As Evan pointed out, that 7-inch bag is $1500 bucks (and sold out at one site I looked at).
In that case…Goodbye and thanks for all the fish!
I love you for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reference!
I love you for that reference too – so much so that I didn’t upvote you in hopes of keeping that number at 42!
Yea. Not for a formal occasion, but totally fun.
Meanwhile, I’ll continue pondering how the last name Le looks goofy when you hyphenate it.
The bags with handles look like portable record players. Gorgeous!
I was thinking lunch boxes.
I actually prefer Kate Spade’s book clutches. I think the leather looks a little more polished.
I have one of the Kate Spade one’s and it is very nicely made indeed. But I still covet these too.
Yay to the book clutches, nay to the lunchbox looking things (unless you’re between the ages of 3 & 12).
i would actually like them better if they were lunchbox-sized instead of tiny. But my inner kindergartner already comes out to play far too often, I think.
Yay to these! They are silly and fun. The pricing is ridiculous, though.
Buy the real book that an etsy seller has turned into a clutch! Or carry the real book and pretend it’s a clutch.
Or just carry the book and read it.
As accessories? Not so much. As objects that need to exist in this world? Oh yes. Especially the Fancy Free bag.
I like these, because I’m a Navy brat, and all this stuff speaks to my seafarer’s daughter upbringing. I also support anything that is made to look like a book. I would, however, never carry any of these, because they are Twee, and I’m a grungier sort, who is mean to bags and gets them dirty.
Personally, I imagine myself owning only one of these, which I use only on very special, dressy occasions. But I don’t have enough money to even really imagine it.
YEA! They’re cute
Too Twee by far. And on the PETA side – should anyone be featuring whale hunting?
I have to say that I kind of love these. Boho chic whimsy! Yes please!
Kind of bewildering. Nice to look at but to actually use? Doubt it.
I am going to say NAY based on the cheapness of it all.
I don’t really understand the aesthetics of these bags. I literally have no frame of reference for their “style”, other than just generally old-fashioned. I usually like offbeat items, but literally all of these leave me cold as handbags. Kitschy kitchen or bathroom decorations, sure, but handbags–NAY!
I think they were going for some sort of cross-stich effect, but when you are paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for a bag you could have payed twenty bucks to do yourself, there is a major problem.
For the obscene prices these will probably go for, I expect something nicer than craft-store felt cutouts.
i think these are stunning. as someone said below, i wouldn’t want the whalehunting or hemingway deep sea fishing one, but other than those, they are really beautiful. wish i had the bucks to buy a bunch!
Yea! I’m a sucker for anything book-related. Also love the round caviar purse. Would love to own one of these and leave it lying around artfully!
These are so cute but I could totally DIY this if I found the right Pintrest board.
WANT that Mariner’s Compass one in the small pics. And someone to buy it for me.
Yes, that one is the best,
I say yea because I believe they repurpose old books so I think that is pretty cool and they look kinda cool. So they may not be practical or easy to style but I think they are cool
Yea. I want several of these.
These are cute but I am a grown woman. NEXT.
I like the books and the Leonard Bernstein one. Obviously not for myself, since i don’t have$1,500, but for famous people… yeah.
These are really cute! Hopefully they’ll be executed correctly on the runway. And when I hit the lottery, I might have to get one of them.
LOVE the book clutches, and LOVE some of the ones with handles!
Really love them.
As a grown woman, I like a little whimsy and nerdiness added into an otherwise serious look.
13-year-old me would have loved these
Amazing. I want that Virginia Woolf one NOW.
That’s the one I want too.
Me too! I have a copy of the book with that exact cover, in fact!
Adorable and could probably work with an outfit if deployed correctly! Give me the pink a de la cote one and the round one with the fish, please.
Nay. Way too twee, even for a person who can appreciate some nautical fiction.
Yay to everything about this
Many sailors in my family, so I have a fondness for them all. But – where is “How To Avoid Huge Ships” by John W. Trimmer? Because that’s a cautionary treatise worth commemorating.
YES PLEASE ALL. I just got an adorable new pair of sperrys for my birthday (the leather is embossed with little anchors!) and I could use an adorably nautical handbag to go with it. Alas, moneys.
Love them, want them. One doesn’t have to pull a full-out Zooey Deschanel and ManicPixieDream girl their entire outfit, including one of these. I think they could be a nice pop of colour/whimsy to an outfit.
I want them all. The embroidery is exquisite. I love them more than the sequined versions she did before.
YEA and I want a few. That compass rose one, for starters…
Yay to all of them. <3
Whale hunting as fashion? Not so much.
I like the idea, but some of these (especially the lunchbox ones) are just ugly. Yea-ish?
YEA! So adorable!
I love them. The illustrations are so witty and colorful. But I would probably create my own.
What you said.
Mild yea. There are several I think are clever or cute, but they’re not my style in a hand bag. I know people who’d love them. No one I know can afford them, but there are lots of people out there who can, I suppose.
I look at this array and think, my, she has been busy, hasn’t she? Look at all she’s done! Can I have one to put up on the refrigerator?
I rather lust after the compass rose purse.
There used to be a BK, don’t know if she’s still around, that did this and did it better.
NAY! Let ‘um go down with the ship.
YEA. Cute, silly & fun.
As a lifetime purse addict and crafter, it delights and angers me to see these pieces. Delights because it’s wonderful to see these kinds of things finally considered High Fashion. It enrages me that it took so long for High Fashion to stop looking down its nose at the ‘handmade’ look and that they’re too expensive to own by 99% of the people who would love and use them. Kittens, if you want to see how to make them inexpensively or find folks who do, they are out there.
Um, how shall I say this?
Yeah, that sums it up.
Nay. This stuff has been on Etsy for quite some time, and Kate Spade has been doing the books for a while now too.
Gorgeous, I love them. I like when high-end stuff actually looks like it required work to make.
YAY. Lots of YAY here.
I usually like book clutches, but these aren’t doing it for me. The round ones, however, I JUST LOVE, especially the one with the pink fish and the compass rose. In.
Totally Yeah! Though I wish the material were leather instead of fabric, because it is easier to keep clean.
I want every single one of these!
Oh I like these, especially the round one with the tiny fish!
On the right girl with the right styling, this could be really cute.
One of each, please? They’re so very Wes Anderson
I actually really love these bags, but I think their price tags would be steep even for hand embroidered items, which I am guessing (literally guessing, was too lazy to google and find out) they are not. I look to these more as inspiration for a DIY bag (because unlike most fashion, a DIY here could be at least comparable and at most much more personal and fun).
The right edgy ladystars could make these work. Yes they are juvenile but I like them! YEA
Yea. Off the beaten path for sure, but what a great vibe to be carrying one of them.
I’m not big on whimsy, but I really like these.
If I could get a custom book cover one, I’d totally dig it.
LOVE. For smart girls who love fashion.
cute, though inching toward Pinterest/Etsy. Petsy!
Take my money!
I LOVE these. The one with the little pink fishies is my favorite.
The look like extremely well made craft purses. Very nice, but not at all worth the designer price tag.
These would be a good investment
Look at that etsy realness
I loathe Hemingway in general and TOMATS in particular, but damn me if I don’t covet that clutch!
Is “Something About A Sailor” a vintage instruction manual of hooking?
I’ll take one of each, thank you!
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
