The preciousness is off the scale with this look.

But you know? We wish Lea Michele dressed like this. We’ve always thought the cutesy urban girl look was exactly the thing for her. Granted, we wouldn’t call this the most put-together outfit in the world- the brown booties really bug, for some reason – but it’s adorable and it suits her very well.

But really, Lea. Take a page from this book.

    OMG. I need that coat.

    • Wendi126

      OMG. I need that apartment

    • Frida

I have this coat! Have had it for a couple of years now. I was wearing it yesterday and caught a reflection of myself and thought, ‘wow, it’s getting a bit ratty isn’t it’ – so I’m glad to see hers is also looking a bit ratty and she’s still wearing it too. :p

  • MilaXX

I thought I was the only one that didn’t like the brown boots. Seriously Tay, you got black & navy neutrals why add another?

    • BlairBear

I dont mind the brown boots because the accents on the coat are brown but I do wish they weren’t so clunky. I think boots like these look better with jeans tucked in instead of leggings or bare legs. I think they make the outfit bottom heavy

    • mlle

I hate chocolate with black. Other browns with black are fine, but this one always looks sloppy.

    • tereliz

Red with that deep brown always bugs me. It just doesn’t go. COGNAC, please!

  • crash1212

Exceedingly cute outfit and I want that bag. NOW.

  • ScarlettHarlot

Now that she has broken up with Selena Gomez, she can be friends with Lea Michele. They can sing many sad ballads together, and Taylor can teach her the art of highlighting your legs without looking desperate or trashy.

    • demidaemon

She can’t even keep herself from breaking up with her “best” friends now, huh? Next thing you know her entire next album will be devoted to her relationship with Selena G.

      • Jean Marie Downing

Apparently they broke up over Bieber, more specifically, Selena’s inability to kick him to the curb. I’m with Tay on this one.

        • demidaemon

I can kind of understand that from every angle. For once, Taylor, you are free from my fires of irrational dislike.

  • cocohall

Adorable. Weather appropriate. Nice Job Tay Tay.

    • MarissaLG

I assure you she’s freezing her ass off. Still, cute.

  • icm

Hate those boots on anyone, especially with tights . They have a very horsey hoovy vibe to them.

    • 3boysful

I’d prefer them with pants/jeans. But you gotta admit, they’re not a hoove-y as those monstrocities Gaga is always sporting!

      • icm

Yes Gaga does wear some horsey footwear for sure.

  • Anna

This is actually freaking cute, skirt’s a bit short for my tastes but at least she’s wearing the appropriate hosiery. I love the bag and OMG that sweater.

    • tereliz

I keep thinking that skirt is a short. Which would explain the length, but it’s hard to tell.

      • Anna

I’m not 100% sure that it’s a skirt either. I see some kind of pleating, which makes me think it’s a skirt.

        • makeityourself

I don’t care if it’s a skirt or shorts, the coat looks stupid with them. This girl has no sense of proportion whatsoever. The coat needed to be much longer or shorter to make sense. I’m not mentioning the hat.

  • @Biting Panda

I keep waiting for her to toss her hat up in the air, and spin around, with arms spred wide.

    • Noah

She’s gonna make it after aaaaaallllllllllllll.

    • formerlyAnon

Can she act? She’s got the wholesome on the surface, nudge & a wink underneath, work-ethic-try-hard all the way through vibe to play an updated Mary Richards, IMO.

    • Kayceed

If only those boots were flat, this would be 1987 and Miss Gibson here would be heading to the mall for her gig – Only in my dreams…….:)

  • Was everyone in the country given a pair of those boots for Christmas?

    • leahpapa

I don’t know about the country, but everyone in New York sure was. The thing about this look that I find tiresome is that it’s the way every white, young NYC-transplant dresses now (natives have a whole different wardrobe based on subculture and group affiliation). I just find the eclecticism to be so affected and commodified, like when Urban Outfitters co-opted the punk aesthetic a generation back.

      • Sarah

No one in the Capital of the Confederacy has those boots. I’ve never seen their ilk here. Perhaps its an above-the-Mason-Dixon-Line phenomenon. (Good)

      • Nicole C

THANK YOU. Not that I’m in NYC, but when I walk the streets of SF, I have to stop rolling my eyes or they could fall out.

        • leahpapa

Totally. And they’re never *from* the Great Urban Capital of Hip they currently inhabit; they’re always from Schaumberg or Terra Haute or Binghamton and are now constantly impersonating the new self they dreamed they’d be when they moved. Which, no judgment: I’m from the middle of nowheresville, but I don’t try to dress like my imaginary version of what a “native” urbanite looks like.

          • Guest

Sorry, that sounds really mean. What I mean is that I see a lot of aspirational dressing – and hey, maybe we’re all aspiring to something when we get dressed in the morning, even if it’s comfort – that feels pretentious and off-putting.

          • Constant Reader

I think I understand where you’re coming from. I agree that we all aspire to something when we get dressed, but for me, what bugs about this look is that people who sport it are utterly convinced they are being original when they’re dressing exactly like all their friends who also think they are being completely original.

          • I do know of people who plan for months what they will wear when they go to New York. I’ve never been, so I don’t know if I will become one of those people, but there is definitely a *thing* about aspiring to look like the fantasy urbanite.

          • mlle

The thing that amuses me about them is that on days when I feel I’ve come up short sartorially, my reaction is to shrug and tell myself “fuck it, I’m from here anyway, doesn’t matter what I wear.”

    • Imasewsure

They were on sale at Loehmann’s for months so I think they did make it under a lot of trees in NYC and SF for sure…

    • tereliz

Certainly not in NOLA. But of course, we’re not cosmopolitan enough (hmph). Our transplants don’t even know we have kale.

      • I can see why you’d keep that quiet.

  • gayle

She looks cute. I don’t know what it is but her street style, though typically very cute, usually feels costumey like she is playinig a part. I don’t mean this to sound negative it just does not feel authentic to me the way say Dita Von Teese’s style does. But I agree Taylor should help Lea out, that friendship would be fascinating to watch.

  • KinoEye

Gimme that sweater. I love a good plaid, even if it is slightly lumberjackish. This is super chouette, as the French might say.

  • I can’t really be on board with the My torso is in Buffalo and my legs are in Miami combo.

    • Rhonda Shore

Who’s wearing black opaque tights in Miami?

      • They don’t read opaque to me, actually. Ah well.

        • Rhonda Shore

They are…black opaques are one of my mainstays. It’s a really cute look, even with the brown booties…the only thing i find takes it into too twee territory is the fedora…and it’s windy in the northeast!!!

      • tereliz

I’m wearing black opaque tights today in NOLA. The weather’s almost the same even if the aesthetic isn’t.

  • formerlyAnon

Almost totally awesome. The brown booties bug because they should be black.

  • Camille Chapman

Why must all posts have something wrong with it?? The booties are FINE!

  • Jessica Freeman

I think the hat is far worse than the booties.

    • Tanya Wade

I want to burn the hat.

    • MilaXX

Yeah the hat reads a bit Electric Youth to me.

      • formerlyAnon

        Ha! Electric Youth! Involuntary snort.

    • SugarSnap108

The hat is the only part I don’t like. The brown boots don’t bug me at all, actually. Maybe I’m becoming too nice.

      • Jessica Freeman

Considering her typical granny footwear choices, I’ll let the boots pass even though with her legs they are reminding me of barbie boots…you know where they were just so big around to get them on correctly.

  • Janet B

I appreciate that Taylor looks like she dressed herself from her own closet.

    • Laylalola

Wow, the impression I always have is that nothing is thrown together from what’s in her own closet — she always looks Just So (even when she looks casual or her hair looks tussled or what have you it’s all so painfully, deliberately Just So). It’s too perfectly Just So that it never seems to me to be just dressed from her closet, it’s so … Just So to a calculated, contrived extreme or something. When I scrolled through the above photos, for example, I actually thought: She picked the coat as much or more because it’s called a Boyfriend Coat as any other reason and that’s part of the message she’s trying to convey knowing she’ll be photographed in it today, etc.

      • Qitkat

If I had a closet full of Just So perfect clothes to choose from, my looks would be a whole lot more calculated than they are. Doesn’t everyone look in their own closet and want to put items together that look really good? So I think your Calculated, Contrived, is just someone else’s Coordinated Quirky. The last thing I would knock anyone for. And if we all knew we were going to be photographed each and every day, multiple times possibly, I know that would affect my mindset.

      • Janet B

I thought that if this was done by a stylist, she wouldn’t have been wearing a blue jacket and brown booties with a black and red outfit.

      • Jean Marie Downing

I pretty much always try to look just so. I wear a uniform to work. So when I’m not? It’s very just so.

  • Clere Norrey

    Sooooo much makeup.

    • saintebeuve

Agreed. (Have more thoughts, can’t figure out how to phrase them.)

  • WendyD

Doing good work to keep herself on my Irrational Hate List. Especially with the hat and booties.

  • Joanna

I am actually thrilled to see as starlet dressing weather-appropriately. It’s frickin cold here.

  • Betsy

She’s looking very Joni Mitchell with the hat and the lipstick. I hate the brown, black, and navy all together.

    • formerlyAnon

Reminded me of Joni, as well. Glad I wasn’t imagining it.

  • The whole time I was scrolling down I thought “This is how Lea Michele should dress.” I see I wasn’t alone! The brown boots create an odd effect when the look is so blocky up-top and she’s wearing tights darker than her footwear.

  • twocee

I love this whole outfit. I’m at least 15 years too old for it (probably closer to 20), but I think it’s perfect for a young star who wants to actually acknowledge it’s still winter in NYC.

  • Fuchaforever

When in doubt I always remember what Coco Channel said once about keeping the outfit to 3 shades of color. Obviously there are many exceptions but I think that is a good general rule. Here: red, black, blue. Black booties would have been better.

  • clatie

I would like to say I hate it but the sad truth is I wish I were young enough to wear it.

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

All she needs is a Corgi on a leash…

  • RescueMe23

She is EXACTLY what her fans expect her to be… and for that she gets props. I’d rather have my girls emulate her style-wise than half the others (Miley I’m looking at you!)

  • Reine Bron

I love taylor’s outfit and well I might be alone in this but I also like lea’s everyday style because it’s very simple she basically just wears jeans/tights, tshirt and boots or slippers. I just wish she could incorporate that into her red carpet style or fire her stylist

  • Jessica O’Connell

I also REALLY HATE that she’s wearing black boots, so I’m glad it’s not just me!

    • enchanted216

But she’s not wearing black boots. I believe those are brown.

      • Jessica O’Connell

Whoops, I meant to type brown. It’s the brown that was annoying me. I edited my comment. Thanks.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

The hat was a bridge too far.

  • MzzPants

    Modern ‘That Girl’ realness.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      “Diamonds, daisies, snowflakes…”

  • VicD

That hat is ridiculous on pretty much anyone, but especially so here. I can deal with the boots, but not the hat.

  • Gatto Nero

Make the boots black, and take off the ridiculous hat that she has to clamp to her head with her hand, and this is fine.

  • Imasewsure

I think the BKs would pay to see LM in this type of look. I’m ok with it for TayTay as long as I pretend that hat doesn’t exist. It’s precious but s’allrite… especially it is serves a greater good and inspires our dear girl Of Course… I mean Lea

  • Harry

Actually HATE that sweater, so not feeling it. That type of plaid is so ugly to me, rest of the look is fine, I don’t mind the brown booties

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Isn’t she done being famous yet? Le sigh.

  • Qitkat

Cute. I’ll give her a pass on the brown booties because they seem to match the unidentified brownish black skirt, and thank goodness she wore one 😉

  • decormaven

This is utterly pegged for “Get Taylor’s style for less!” in the fashion mags.

  • Sophie

This is really cute, I love the coat and the bag.

  • melanie0866

  • Jacob Bowen

I could forgive the boots if they were in black or if her hat was brown, but who mixes blacks/browns? I understand in subtle ways like buttons, but as a man if I wore brown shoes with black in my outfit I would be stoned (and not in the good way).

  • ThaliaMenninger

It’s the hat that puts it over the twee top for me. But I’m still ok with it. It’s her.

  • Viviennne

Hats have the ability transform to a higher level – this hat does the opposite. And…..as Jacob Bowen says….she mixes her blacks and browns…..sheesh…..have we lost ALL decorum in the 21st century?

  • Yay! I wore that in 1990. Nice to see everything I donated to the Salvation Army has come back to haunt us all.

  • Columbinia

Love the purse. The sweater can be cute on the young and thin.

  • Sunraya

I’m confused – is she wearing pants or a skirt???

  • Jean Beaton Leavitt

It looks like a faux NYC look…toss the hat in the air Tay.

  • the red sweater annoys me with the entire look. I actually like the brown boots. It would have more of an appropriate fit if the sweater was a pastel color or like a light brown.

  • SylviaFowler

    She tries SO hard.

  • FridaStaire

Meanies! She looks great, apart from the stage make-up.

  • littlestars

That hat’s really annoying, but everything else is super cute. I like the brown booties with this….but then again, I always think she makes really cute footwear choices.

  • irielle

The last time I visited London at the end of November and early December all of the pretty young ladies were dressed in tiny skirts like this with tights even though it was very cold for them. And the coats were so beautiful! This look is really reminding me of that trip, and I love the sweater.

  • LambeeBaby

    She looks like Madeline.
