Oscars 2014 Pairs Division: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Posted on March 03, 2014

They win the “cleans up nicely” award for the night.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie attend the 86th Annual Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. Angelina is wearing an Elie Saab couture gown accessorized with Robert Procop jewelry. Brad Pitt is in Tom Ford.

Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture Collection

We coined the term “Pitting” for men who put no effort in on the red carpet and “Pulling a Jolie” for beautiful people on the red carpet who rely on their looks as a replacement for style. Well he’s not Pitting, that’s for sure. And while Angie has every reason in the world to continue to rely on her looks, it’s nice to see her in something other than a funereal basic black gown. We don’t entirely love the shape of it – seems kind of blousey through the top – but the sparkle, combined with a beautifully made up face (which is itself kind of refreshing) made her look every inch a movie star.

As for him, he’s doing just fine. The jacket seems a bit big on him, but he looks so much better with short hair and a groomed face.

And if you’re loving our Oscars red carpet bitchery, you might consider checking out our new book, darling! “A hilarious critique of celebrity culture,” they called it! We’re proud. And shameless.

  • The Versatile Chef

That dress is borderline matronly on her. I agree about the blousing.

    • livesarah

It could have been worn by someone 30 years her senior. I still count this as pulling a Jolie.

      • Eric Stott

I agree- that is a dress for someone more like Helen Mirren. Still, it’s a beautiful dress and she doesn’t detract from it.

        • Carleenml

I don’t even think Helen Mirren would wear this. So mother of the bride. Meh.

          • JacyJul

Agreed! Helen wears some pretty sexy outfits and looks amazing for her age.

    • Kristen

So matronly. I didn’t care for this look. I can only think of one really great Jolie red carpet appearance…. at Cannes in 2008. Every other time she has pulled a Jolie.

    • kmk05

It’s blousy because she actually has boobs (as opposed to the model), and it changes the entire effect. I wish she had left the belt in, though.

      • jspark

It’s been killing me! The pattern gives her the appearance of droopy booby. She doesn’t have droopy booby, but the dress makes it seem like the go down to her bellybutton. Bad fit.

        • kmk05

I’m happy I don’t see droppy booby so much (because when you actually look at the pictures, those boobs are defying gravity), but man the blousiness makes her look wider than she is and thicker around her middle.

          • JacyJul

Those “boobs” are “defying gravity” because they’re made of silicone (and yes, she had a major boob job way back before she did the movie “Gia”). Regardless of boob status, this gown was ill fitting and I wonder if she chose it to look less thin since there has been so much controversy over her extreme weight loss. Still, have seen her in much more flattering gowns in the past…

      • calimon

I’d like to add that it appears that she has gained some weight. She looks so much more healthy and not anorexic here, which also means that she doesn’t have so much of a “model” figure (ie size 00).

    • merciblahblah

I don’t think it’s borderline matronly – it IS matronly. Totally agree with the comment below that it is because her boobs are bigger. On the model, it looks completely different. Still, the beading and color is gorgeous, but I WISH she would just show up sometime in something completely vampy and full of color. C’mon Angelina, you are so serious all the time – you can have a little fun once in a while!!

    • Kent Roby

Oddly, I though she looked better in this while sitting in the audience than she did standing.

  • …all I could think was, “They are fake but they look spectacular.”

    • Judy_S

I thought it was a crazy sexy dress in the glimpse I got on TV (I tuned out early)–and only now, staring at the photos, did it dawn on me that she doesn’t have her own breasts any more. I like it, blousiness and all.

      • anneland

As someone who has had breast reconstruction, I think she looks great. But there is this thing where the reconstructed boobs are always a bit far apart in the middle and a bit out to the side by the armpit. I don’t know why they have to be like that.

        • Evan

I think Kylie Minogue had a good reconstruction job. She and Angelina have similar body types other than Kylie being a lot more petite, but I think Kylie’s look more natural/are less obviously fake.

    • lexilexi

Yes, she enlarged them considerably… but why not?

      • Agreed.

      • Evan

I think that they kind of look disproportionate because they don’t really fit her body type, but what she did was very courageous, so I guess she can do whatever she wants as far as I’m concerned.

        • makeityourself

There’s also the possibility that they are bigger than she would have preferred. That type of reconstruction is an art as well as a science and even though advances are being made all the time, the results are never completely predictable.

      • Dam_Angel

No, they distract from her beauty. I wish she had replicated her original shape.

      • Faerie Nuff

My thought was “Good for her.” If it happens to me, I will do the exact same thing.

        • MoHub

My sister did it 20 years earlier—as did many other women—but since they weren’t movie stars, no one went crazy publicizing how courageous they were.

    • Kristin McNamara

“They” the people? Or “they” her breasts?

    • jen_vasm

The dress is not for a busty woman. It puts undue attention on them instead of her overall form. Plus, the silhouette makes her look like a Barbie doll.

  • imperfectlaura

The first thing I saw when I looked at her was “illusion droopy boobs,” and now that’s all I see.

    • MaggieMae

Absolutely! The pattern on the dress pulls DOWN.

    • FrigidDiva

I thought the beading on the dress made it look like her breasts were melting. Really not a fan of this dress.

  • Tricia

Thought she looked fantastic and beautiful last night. Love that they had her present with Sydney Poitier.

    • Scimommy

The amount of awe and respect that she had for him was touching. She was getting pretty verklempt.

      • butterflysunita

I love that you used the word verklempt! Makes me miss the early days of Project Runway, sigh.

      • Evan

Linda Richman worships you for using that word. She thinks your legs look like buttah.

    • formerlyAnon

And she very graciously smoothed over the bumps that arose due to his age or eyesight.

      • Tricia

Yeah I thought it was very sweet. I’m frustrated by the lack of respect given to old actors when they show up at award shows. My friends were making mummy jokes about Poitier, and I just wanted to yell, “It’s Sydney fucking Poitier!! We should all be standing!”

        • “We should all be standing!”

          I <3 you!!

        • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Seriously! When Sidney Poitier appears in your presence you STAND THE FUCK UP RIGHT NOW. There is no other option.

        • Skippymom1

THIS, THIS and THIS! I teared up when I saw him. I thought Matthew Mconaughy also treated Kim Novak with due respect. It was touching, both times.
Thanks for your comment. Spot on.

          • gloriana232

Yes, totally. I noticed how he was pretty gentle with her. The organizers did a good job there.

          • Tricia

Agreed. I was a bit surprised that Mcconaughey didn’t try to steal the spotlight from her. Their presentation was awkward, but respectful.

          • Skippymom1

Seeing how loving Mcconaughey was towards his own mom, I didn’t even think about him upstaging Ms. Novak. Does he really do that? Whew, so glad that didn’t happen.

          • formerlyAnon

I wasn’t. That “I love my momma” Texas boy schtick he (over) does is based on his real personality and raising, I think.

        • JacyJul

SO TRUE. This man is a living legend. It’s absolutely sad that our (Western) culture shows such disrespect and a lack of consideration for the seniors in our population and especially those who have made such a positive impact on our society such as Poitier has done!

      • decormaven

Yes, I think it’s important to remember that the lighting for a television event- particularly in the HD age- is probably much more than theater stage lighting or film settings. I’m not up on Sidney Poitier’s schedule these days, but it may have been a bit since he’s been in front of those kinds of lights. Plus, this pair came on later in the show, and the producers were probably running on fumes. Who knows how kooky it was backstage? That would rattle almost anyone. I loved how she interacted with him- that’s grace indeed.

  • MilaXX

I appreciate the effort, but his suit is slightly too large and needs a when and the bodice is a bit too blousey on her making her boobs look saggy hen they aren’t. Still I love that they glammed it up.

    • ampg

I suspect she hasn’t quite learned to dress her new shape yet; I think that bodice would’ve worked on her pre-surgery body, because she used to wear drapey gowns with good results.

      • marlie

She has “people” to worry about that. It’s the stylist’s job to make sure the dress is the right one for her figure, and that everything fits correctly.

      • Glammie

Yeah, I think you’re right. Depending on how much tissue was removed, it can be hard to have a natural looking decollatage. I’ve noticed she’s tended to wear higher-necked things since the surgery. I think the embroidery doesn’t work for her. Oh well, at least it’s not black.

      • MilaXX

I don’t think she got a new shape. She appears to have gotten implants pretty close to her original breast. It’s just certain looks don’t really work with fuller breast.
I also think it’s why the looks Julia Roberts has been wearing this season haven’t really worked.

  • Glam Dixie

I don’t like that dress at all. It makes her wide and just no. He looks fine.

  • Imasewsure

I was hoping for some positivity for our girl here and got some from our dear uncles at least. I didn’t love it but I liked it and I thought it was very pretty on the stage in particular. Love me some sparkles – and she looked happy and glamorous. I don’t mind matronly since that’s just her thing

  • Loren S

The hair is much better, but I’m still concerned it dips too far into Macklemore territory.

    • Evan

That’s the cut I have right now. I got it without even realizing that I go the Macklemore cut. But I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone says it is.

      • Loren S

On the right person, I think it works! I’m just not sure Brad Pitt is that person.

        • Evan

I think it looks better on him than it does on me. He has the face and bone structure for it.

          • Loren S

But is it a fit in terms of personality?

          • Evan

            Probably not lol

        • AnaRoW

It makes him look more like his father than he’s ever looked before. I find it a bit unnerving because every time I see his father, he comes off as if he might be the most un-fun person ever. Either way, I got the impression after the Golden Globes that Brad’s not thrilled with the cut either. He was very clear that it’s for a movie role.

    • Kristin McNamara

I actually said this to my friend last night while watching… It seems quite a few of men in Hollywood are getting the Macklemore cut (or close variation of) these days. In last night’s audience alone, I spotted three guystars sporting this ‘do (Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and I know there was one more but I can’t remember who it was). I don’t hate it (not even close), I’m merely pointing it out. I feel like men’s hair styles have been somewhat static in recent years, so it’s interesting that there seems to be a fresh ‘do in the neighborhood.

      • decormaven

“Fashion! Turn to the left. Fashion! Turn to the right. Oooh, fashion!” Love a new trend.

      • fursa_saida

Women, too. Not necessarily both sides, or super short, but more and more of us are gravitating toward what Pink’s been doing for years. I’ve got the left side shaved myself (but the rest is long, and I can actually cover the shaved part up if context requires). It’s fun!

  • deelup

The dress makes her look curvy and voluptuous when she usually looks so sleek and slender. I love that effect. They are just too good looking to even believe.

    • Agent Sculder

I legitimately think she is curvier that she was before, and not in a fake way either. After all the crap she went through, she’s a in a much better place health wise, and I think she’s filled out a bit. She looks great!

      • anneland

Also, I like that it’s blousey. Does *everything* have to be so tight on the RC?

  • butterflysunita

Brad has taken a shower and shaved. Angelina is wearing something other than a black shapeless sheet. That’s all they had to do to look great.
    Was that so hard?

    • Introspective

word. when you have a bazillion dollars, dammit all we ask is that you clean up nice. and try a little effort.

  • Chris

That dress looks like the type a 60 year old star from the golden age of Hollywood would pull out to wear back in the late 70’s or 1980’s. I can see Ginger Rogers or Marlene Dietrich wearing a Nolan Miller version of that dress to make a guest appearance at the Oscars back in the day…or on The Love Boat where they had a romance with David Niven or something. It just seems way too matronly for Angelina Jolie. Also: why does she hate color?

    • Pennymac

Matronly seems to be a default of hers. But her makeup and hair are beautiful.
LOL’d at David Niven Romance on the Love Boat!

  • Kimberlini

How strange that someone so thin could actually look wide and/or droopy (although she did look better walking across the stage). In any event, I wouldn’t touch that dress with a ten foot pole. And I don’t see a clutch…where does she keep her lip balm?

P.S. Her makeup is gorgeous and I really like the fact that Brad’s tux doesn’t look too tight as so many others did.

  • Kate Andrews

    Needs a belt, big time.

    • Spicytomato1

Yes, I like the model’s version. It seems wrong that a couture gown would have an exposed elasticized waistband, doesn’t it?

  • webslice33

she has sucked the hotness in brad pitt, or he is just getting old…but still looks good..angie for me always looks fake, she comes off as insincere to me, dunno why…

    • eowyn_of_rohan

What, she’s a succubus? Come on. He has six kids now and that’ll make you look exhausted quicker than anything else.

      • webslice33

Lol ur that naive to think he’s that handson and he personally takes care of those kids? Cmon now..

        • eowyn_of_rohan

No more naive than believing that women can “suck the hotness” out of men.

  • That dress would have been so much prettier somehow if the sleeves had stopped right under the embellishment at the elbow…

  • Nikko Viquiera

Oh honey, you’re a movie star!

  • allcapsERINN

She looks lovely . . . and healthy for a change. I love the holy halo that just happens to encircle her head in the fifth pic. Angelina Jolie is the Virgin Mary.

    • ballerinawithagun

I don’t care for the dress but she does look sensationally healthy! He’s clean and was adorable handing out plates for the pizza!

      • Kristin McNamara

Yes, I loved that plate moment too! Throughout that whole bit, I found myself wondering how much was scripted/planned for everyone involved (besides Ellen), and how much was all of them just going with it. I wish I knew!

        • Lisa_Co

The camera people had to know to have the cameras in the right place. That means the producers knew.

          • Kristin McNamara

Oh, well that I assumed. I’m sure the BTS people knew what was going to happen, but I mean the celebs in the audience who were participating (Bradley, Jennifer, Meryl, Brad, Lupita, Kerry, Jared, etc.) I wonder if they knew that was coming. I prefer to think they didn’t 🙂

        • Spicytomato1

Yeah, people elsewhere have commented on the seemingly improvised nature of that moment, however my impression has always been that the Oscars are a highly orchestrated and rehearsed production so my feeling is that it was completely planned. They are actors after all so they probably were given cues to make it look off the cuff, I’d guess.

  • Most improved! They honestly look incredible.

  • alyce1213

I know it’s for a role (or so it’s been said), but I hate his hair that way. The tuxedo is fine.
Her dress is a bit matronly, but there’s quite a lot of beautiful work and it’s probably gorgeous in person.
She’s starting to look like a bobblehead to me, something about the fix of her face atop her body.
I’m not a big fan of them — they seem to take themselves too seriously.

    • Jessica Freeman

No I really hate that hair. My guy friend wanted it so bad, he ran out and got it done the next day. He looked ridiculous.

  • amanda siegelson

i can’t believe no one has mentioned how terrifyingly scary thin that model is – i mean, when someone is making angie look chunky in comparison, there is truly something wrong going on here.
that being said, i don’t like this dress on either model nor movie star, but her face looks really lovely.
i hate his hair beyond words.

    • It’s not surprising – we don’t bodysnark here. And “terrifyingly scary” is just a concern-troll way of doing it.

  • GeoDiva

I wish the top of her gown was more form-fitting, then it would have been perfect.

  • enchanted216

I think she looks beautiful and healthy, for a change 🙂

    • kimmeister

Her face looked really gaunt in the clip they showed of her accepting that other award, even my husband commented on it. She looks much healthier now. My goodness, that face.

  • Fred Vaughn

The 1980s want that dress back (If it was tighter, MAYYYBE…). Otherwise, not bad.

  • H2

The dress looked better on stage than in the still shots. In the stills it comes across as a bit matronly, but on stage it was much more elegant.

    • Jaeda Laurez

      Yes, it moved beautifully.

  • Call me Bee

I hate this dress on her or anyone. Dumpy. And it’s an ugly color.

  • frannyprof

    Oh how I wish she’d worn a belt. A small quibble, I know, but…

  • jmuns79

    • Spicytomato1

Seriously. I would imagine it would be hard to look directly at them in person for fear of being blinded by such intense good looks.

  • ashtangajunkie

I’m not crazy about the way this gown fit her, but I cannot argue with her from the neck up. That is gorgeous.

  • Adrianna Grężak

I think she looks beautiful. I love that she decided to wear such a bold dress

  • kalisa

Don’t like that boxy shape on her but she keeps selecting it. The dress is for a woman 20 years her senior. But her makeup looks pretty.

  • dash1211

They both looked wonderful on the telecast. I’ve never had much regard for them one way or the other, but her gentleness with and respect for Sidney Poitier may make me a fan.

  • nannypoo

    This is Angela Lansbury’s dress.

  • The dress looks a little old for her – like a Meryl Streep dress. But my God she is absolutely stunning. And Pitt is just damn gorgeous. I loved how he gave her a kiss when her honorary Oscar was mentioned, and she looked at him so warmly. Lovely.

    • Laylalola

Yeah, but she’s a pretty good actress. I remember her and Billy Bob Thornton at an awards ceremony all googly-eyed and cooing to each other for the cameras right before they broke up. Not that that will happen here, just saying.

      • marlie

A lot of the celeb couple DO break up not too long after the award show season (Sandra Bullock & Jesse James, Hillary Swank & Chad Lowe, Robin Thicke & Paula Patton). Not to say that Brad and Angie will, but that’s often when celebs break up.

      • The boys go through that process in the book!

  • sarct

I’m just so pleased that he cut his hair, I hardly notice what they’re wearing.

  • Sunraya

I’ve never found her beautiful. Interesting looking, but not beautiful. And I don’t think they have earned the right to not give a damn and get away with it, the way Bette Midler, or Meryl Streep or Whoopi have. I’m amazed they washed!! Did you see that dress in red??? Stunning. I wish she had worn it. As it is, it is both almost-too-revealing and Grandma at the same time, which leaves me bemused. I can smell the mothballs from it.

  • BobStPaul

I actually hate that dress – at least on her – because of how ill-fitting it is. It may be nice to see her in something other than black but why can’t she find a more figure flattering gown? Hair and make-up are great, however.

  • Jessica Freeman

She looks healthy and is glowing, even if top half of the dress is a bit wonky in the fit. I’m glad to see Brad with a shave, now if he could continue on with his head, I’d be even happier.

  • KayEmWhy

This gown looks matronly to me and doesn’t fit her well. Not loving it at all. Him meh.

  • JauntyJohn

They always look still and genuinely in love when I see them together in pics at events. Look at the way she is looking at him in that one shot… together they are magnificent.
I don”t mind the looser fit up top at all for her — honestly, it struck me that with the world watching maybe she didn’t feel like having the girls be so “on display” for a change; maybe she was more comfortable with a softer silhouette.
    He looks dynamite.
And how g.d. cute was he jumping up to help Ellen give out paper plates to serve the pizza?
Love or hate them, I think they still have true IT factor charisma.

    • yes to all of the above. Also, could someone please have her makeup artist head over to Ms. Viola Davis and do her eyes? Please and thank you.

    • Evan

I read that as “together they are maleficent” lol

  • NinjaCate

I have been reading TLo for three years now and I’ve only JUST realized that this feature is called “pAIrs division” and not “pARis division”. And suddenly the world makes more sense.

    • quiltrx

LOL I love you for airing your clarity! I do this at least a few times a year…something dawns on me that I feel incredibly silly for not realizing ages ago. So I feel you!

  • nowlo

re: complaints about the bodice. It was clearly designed for a flat-chested woman. It’s gonna look like this on any woman who is above a B cup.

  • nicky

In the fourth picture of her, I love how the “O” from the Oscar sign is making it look like she has a halo.

  • DominoEstella

I hate her makeup and the trend of dark eyeshadow all the way up to the brows bugs the hell out of me.

  • bertkeeter

Other than the sleeve length and beading design…love it!

  • The sleeves on her dress look too long–the wrist line is hanging somewhere in the middle of the back of her hand. 3/4 sleeves would have taken away some of the matronly vibe, I think. PRAISE JESUS Brad cut his hair and groomed his face. He looks SO much better–younger, far less douchey.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Mad Queen of the Moss and her bodyguard. I am not loving that color or the fungus/moss/whispery growth look on her. He’s ok, certainly better than the Overgrown Snowboarder look he seems to like so much, but this haircut is making him border on stormtrooper. So, no, I’m not down with either of them.

  • Andrea

I just can’t get past the Alfred Kinsey hair on Brad Pitt.

I liked the dress, she was there not as an ingénue but as the producer’s wife who is noteworthy in her own right. To me with the character framing in mind she is even more picture perfect.

    • embers618

I agree, she’s dressed not just for the venue, but for her function there. I think that this – stunning but still subdued – is much more appropriate than something more blatantly sexy.

  • majorbedhead

I think the photos of Angie and Brad noshing on pizza in the front row has gone a long way to redeem both of them in my eyes. Don’t ask me why. I know it makes no sense whatsoever.

They both look good. He no longer looks like Truck Stop Jesus, which is a good thing indeed.

    • Alloy Jane

Truck Stop Jesus, I love it!

  • Oh man, she looks like an ultra sultry Alan Davis pinup. His hair is kind of lame though.

  • marlie

On the whole, there’s no denying that they both look pretty great. I do have quibbles: I don’t love the way her dress fits in the bodice, I think I spy satin platforms on her feet, and his jacket is too long and too loose. And I’ll always be annoyed by their perma-smug expressions.

  • ElaineMarie34

Something about the dress proportions just isn’t working – the hem on the model is not quite as overlong and it has some movement that we don’t see on Angelina. And the weight of those beads might be making the bodice seem unflattering. A tough dress to wear. She has good posture! And I love the earrings and hair. I wonder what it’s like to look that beautiful every day.

  • Jenna621

I wish she had done a belt or something with the dress, just to define the waist and make it look less…droopy. I think it looks better close up, though – it’s a total reverse Monet for me. Also wish she would lighten up on the eye makeup every now and again. It’s like she got past her weird/freaky/goth phase, but just can’t let go of the dark eyes.

  • LeelaST

I’d rather have Brad with long hair than this Forest-Gump-ish shaved sides, slicked back look. She looks lovely if a bit matronly in some shots. She was so wonderful with Sidney Poitier, very sad to see him like that.

  • Liz

So glad that he’s cleaned up, he’s almost hot again. She looks OK, but I swear since she had surgery, she looks so much happier.

  • CPK1

She is supernaturally beautiful, just about making the dress work

  • Alloy Jane

I actually really love the dress on the model, but it’s only ok on her. She should’ve sent that dress to Mayim Bialik and worn something a touch more fun. I hate his hair.

  • Guest

It doesn’t seem like a dress for someone with tits and hips under the age of 60–it is for a haute couture model or a women in her post-50s.

  • Monkey Toe

It doesn’t seem like a dress for someone with tits and hips under the
age of 60–it is for a haute couture model or a woman in her post-50s.

  • Goldie

I may have said this before, but the older Brad Pitt gets, the more he looks like Clark Gable.

  • sienna elm

My favourite thing about Brad last night was when Ellen got the pizza and he jumped up to hand out plates and do whatever he could to help out. I fell a little bit back in love with him again.

I wasn’t crazy about the dress until she walked out on stage. It worked far better under the lights than on the red carpet.

  • That is the worst dress that I have ever seena beautiful woman wear. Her boobs look like they’re just about to come unmoored and slowly slide down her torso.

  • Christopher

Angie Dickinson wore a similar dress by Bob Mackie to an Oscar show in the 70’s and it was MUCH better than this MOB gown

  • xmixiex

God, she is just stunning. It never stops being striking.

  • Kelly

Oh, I was so disappointed in this dress. On the plus side, there’s no slit, and it’s not black. But it’s so matronly and shapeless and MOB. Any dress that can make this bone-thin woman look thick around the middle is not doing its glam-movie-star job. So aging.

  • Sabin

Never, not in a zillion years, did I ever conceive of the dress that would make Angelina Jolie look matronly.

    And yet, here it is.

  • Gatto Nero

A little staid for her, but it looks better on her than on the model. And it’s refreshing not to see her flashing a full length of leg.

  • Truthiness2U

The dress was kind of boring here, though it looked much nicer onstage, so there’s that. But I really liked how pretty Angie is looking with her hair and make-up. She looks healthy, and lovely.
Brad has horrible hair for a movie…again, but at least the rest of him is groomed and well turned out.

  • judybrowni

Who, over the age of 25 and not straight out prison, wears their hair like that, Brad?

And, no, I’m not accepting the “for a movie” excuse yet again.

    • MilaXX

Why not if it really is for a movie?

  • Comfy

They’re pretty but it’s all a little too Madame Tussauds for me.

    • Spicytomato1

Agreed. I had to look twice at a couple of photos of them (not here) to make sure they weren’t wax versions. It was kinda hard to tell!

  • Nexli B

I liked this dress on her until I saw it in red, now this just disappoints me that it’s not red.

  • supri_supri

Ghost hands grabbing her boobs. It can’t be unseen. But lucky ghost because she looks f***ing gorgeous.

  • The dress looks too big on her. The white belt the model is wearing really ties things together. He needs to get his pants hemmed about a 1/4 inch. Although, short haired clean shaven Brad Pitt refreshes my memory of why people think he’s hot.

  • crash1212

He looks great. She should’ve kept the belt and gone down a size.

  • Skippymom1

He looks like he’s wearing his Dad’s suit. The clean face/hair is a nice improvement tho’.
She looks so pretty. I thought it was a lovely gown and if you can’t wear an Oscar dress as AJ, then when can you? I liked it.

  • demidaemon

I will say this dress looks much better in profile than straight on. Brad is Brad, I guess.

    • Trickytrisha

Brad used to be Brad. Not so sure he still is.

      • demidaemon

        Fair enough.

  • I have to say it.. black is really her colour. No wonder she relies on it so often.

She is just stunningly gorgeous and her gorgeousness fights with the sparkle on this dress, and she wins. The dress fades into the background.

She really does not need any frippery or glitz, she brings that herself. And her arm candy looks pretty awesome too. 🙂

  • Trickytrisha

Dare I say that dress is a tad too matronly? The bottom part of the bodice reminds me of the pigeon breasted dresses of the 1800s. She’s beautiful, of course, but he seems not to be aging all that well. The icky hair doesn’t help.

    • wisdomy

My first thought upon seeing it was “In a hilarious mix-up, Angelina Jolie was sent Betty White’s dress.”

  • Has anyone seen Jane Fonda recently? Is she running around Hollywood in her undies because Ang mugged her for her dress?

    • Spicytomato1

Nailed it. Now imagine Angie with that frosty Fonda hairdo, lol.

    • MilaXX

I saw a pictures of Jane I think on Fug girls. She wore a white dress to one of the after parties.

  • decormaven

I think the dress read better under the stage lighting, but they both look glamorous- befitting the red carpet.

  • Cassidy Olsen

The entire bodice needs to be hoisted up a few inches or shrunk a few sizes or something, it’s doing terrible things to her chest. And her waist seems to disappear? That shouldn’t happen to Angelina Jolie. Her face does look amazing, though.

  • Little_Olive

He cleans up nicely, yes, but something has been lost forever. The white part of his eyes has certainly disappeared.

I know she went through surgery and all, but that is entirely too much boobage -especially since it’s a non-decolleté dress. Nice to see her done up, but her face is becoming more and more plastic somehow.

  • BayTampaBay

Could the choice of cut (blousey) for the top of the dress be due to her recent surgery & resulting reconstruction?

    I think she looks great.

    • MilaXX

My BFF has similar surgery and reconstruction, at this point she should be back to dressing as she normally did

  • lalahartma

I think that dress looks terrible.

  • Mars Tokyo

Hate the shaved sides of Pitt’s head.

  • Dave Hime

I love the phrase “Brad Pitt is in Tom Ford.” Because I picture exactly that.

  • suzq

Angelina’s dress looked matronly. And with the men wearing the jackets so gosh darned tight these days, even if Brad’s jacket had fit just right, it would have looked big in comparison. Funny. The tight jackets on men have become their version of Botox. Ladies can’t move their eyebrows. Men can’t move their arms. No wonder they need so much security. They’re frozen and defenseless!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I love the dress itself, just not on her – it’s creating unnecessary bulk around her midsection. Other than the poor fit, she looks gorgeous. And he looks amazing!

  • Cathy S

I think the gown looks better with the belt. She looks way too serious. He looks very good.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I still can’t believe Ang got the Humanitarian Award. Jen Aniston must have been sticking pins in her Ang voodoo doll all night.

  • stubbornthoughts

I think this is a GTNYD for Angie. She should ship it off to Helen Mirren, who would make a more fitted version of this sing.

  • She looks beautiful, and gets points for not wearing a black caftan but I hate this dress on her. There were much better dresses in that collection. For example, the one Pink wore.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Yes, they clean up nicely, but that dress looks like it has an elastic waist. I think she should have kept the belt. Her face looks beautiful though, and he looks so much better with short hair.

  • kategs

I remember seeing this and thinking hmmmmm, it needs something and scrolling down, it needs that belt. Defines and breaks up the expanse of gown. And I would kill for those earrings!

  • Jean Beaton Leavitt

Maybe Jolie is shy about her boobs..because the press will make a big deal about them.

  • My favorite, hands down. It’s a bit “Gibson Girl” on the top but I think I like that, esp. since the back plunges like a MOFO. Love them, love her.

  • CBMH

That dress is too matronly looking on her, her hair should have been up off of her shoulders as well. She looks drab this year!

  • KinoEye

Her makeup. Seriously, that’s the best face I’ve seen on her in ages. Gorgeous. The gown is fashionable retiree. Brad looks, as you said, just fine.

  • Ann VerWiebe

That bodice seems a little too 1890 for me.

  • GillianHolroyd

I am in awe of her face. That makeup artist needs to be canonized.

  • PeaceBang

I think they both look glorious. Alive and happy and sexy sparkly glam. Applause. It’s been a long time.

  • She’s wearing a beaded gunnysack instead of her usual matte gunnysack.

  • peachy

not borderline matronly. full on matronly. and it makes her waist look much larger than i’m sure it is… unless she’s preggers – which is always a possibility with those two child producing machines. hated it. with a white hot, sparkly passion.

  • Mousentrude

I think she looks lovely. I want that dress.

  • JacyJul

So many comments about her boobs and reconstruction but Jolie had fairly large breast implants done way back just before she did the movie “Gia,” just look at her in movie, “Hackers” and then afterwards in “Gia.”

So, reconstruction or not, the implants have been a part of her shape for a long time. Personally, I loved the way she looked before the boob job and plastic surgery on jaw, nose, and eyes – she was a unique and natural beauty back before the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” era.

The dress is ill fitting though and that’s what gives the matronly look more than anything. Would like to see her in more color such as the beautiful green dress she wore when she was pregnant with twins…
