Oscars 2014: Kerry Washington in Jason Wu

Posted on March 03, 2014

We wanted to love this, but we were tripped up by the color and shininess.

Kerry Washington attends the 86th Annual Academy Awards held at the Dolby theater in Hollywood, California in a custom Jason Wu dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes and Jennifer Meyer jewelry.

It seriously looks like sateen bedsheets she just pinned together. Which would be kind of hilariously awesome in a fuck-you-world, third-trimester-here kind of way, but we don’t think the effect was intentional. We do like the pin, though. And the drape and shape are lovely. Plus she gets all the points in the world for wearing those killer shoes at this stage in the game. But she’s wrinkled and satiny and that color isn’t doing great things for her. Makeup’s pretty but the hair looks a bit too complicated for its own good.

And if you’re loving our Oscars red carpet bitchery, you might consider checking out our new book, darling! “A hilarious critique of celebrity culture,” they called it! We’re proud. And shameless.

I hate to diss a beautiful pregnant lady, because she gets an automatic pass for pregnancy, but most of her other pregnant fashion looks have been much stronger than this. Shiny, dull color, uninteresting cut..just bad all around.

      • gabbilevy

Are you intentionally blocking out her gawd-awful two-piece Prada? If so, sorry for bringing it up.

    • alyce1213

In addition to the bad color and shiny fabric, the seams aren’t straight. Really, this is a sateen bed sheet clipped together.
This is not a good look for her, pregnant or not.
Great pregnancy look: See Olivia Wilde.

      • gabbilevy

See, I just can’t see Kerry dressing in the same gowns as Olivia Wilde and looking very good. Olivia has the impossibly tall, narrow thing going for her and the baby bump is there but doesn’t seem to be otherwise changing how she’s dressing. Kerry, on the other hand, is much shorter and seems to need to make more of an effort to accommodate her new shape. Not that this is working, necessarily, just that one gal’s approach doesn’t necessarily work for another.

        • alyce1213

Oh I did not say she should have worn Olivia’s dress, it’s not for her, just that a pregnant woman can be comfortable and event appropriate in something that doesn’t look like a badly-sewn together bed sheet.

        • heartbot

This. Being pregnant when you’re short is very different from being pregnant when you’re tall, and not just because of how much it limits your fashion choices. Although it definitely limits your fashion choices. When I was as far along as Kerry was, I sat around my house in leggings with a tank top rolled up over my belly watching Farscape and eating ice cream by the carton and downing an entire cheesecake by myself every other day, because it was the only thing that took the edge off how unbearably uncomfortable I was. Bless her for even showing up. Her face in these pictures is screaming to be allowed to go home, put on some fuzzy house slippers and leggings, and to have people stop analyzing her body, which she’s probably just about done with herself. It’s not a flattering dress, but I just don’t have the heart to rag on her about it too much. It’s a pretty color. She looks as comfortable as you possible can in an evening gown at the end of her pregnancy. Her make-up is lovely and she doesn’t have 5 chins yet. Girl deserves an award just for that.

          • demidaemon

I actually think pregnancy has somehow made her even more beautiful. Her fashion in this time frame, however, has been quite hit or miss.

            • heartbot

Her fashion is always a little hit or miss. She likes complicated clothes, which sometimes works really well and sometimes doesn’t. This doesn’t look like her trying to do something complicated, though, just trying to be comfortable. Can’t fault her for that.

          • kmk05

She does look slightly uncomfortable, doesn’t she. I can’t believe she’s wearing these shoes! Wonder Woman only could do it.

          • FrigidDiva

Ah, the joys of the third trimester. Leggings were definately my best friend and thankfully it was late spring so I could go for the maxi-dress. I would have really loved this look if it was in chiffon and was a different color. Major props to her for wearing the shoes though. She must be super human.

            • heartbot

Agreed. Less stiff fabric would have been really pretty. :)

    • Samantha Ann Mauro

I worked at a bridal salon in the early 2000′s and this grape cough syrup inspired color was wildly popular for bridesmaid dresses at the time. In fact, this looks similar to the dress we used to sell to bridesmaids in the family way.

      • Danielle

NOW I know why that color looks so familiar. It’s Julia Roberts’ MOH dress in My Best Friend’s Wedding.

      • alyce1213

I remember that color in bridesmaid wear — it was supposed to be “sophisticated.”

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

The secret to the sheet toga is one knot tied on the corner – you can convert it to many styles and fashions that do not say “just got out of the shower and I have no towels”. (I love her lip color and hair.)

    • Mismarker

Attending the Oscars while 7-8 months pregnant would be my own personal nightmare.

      • makeityourself

Remember CZJones? I think she gave birth during the drive home.

        • MilaXX

Marcia Gay Harden & Annette Bening also came to the Oscars insanely pregnant.

          • makeityourself

Yes, correct on both accounts. Good question for my next trivia night.

      • FrigidDiva

The shoes. I just can’t get over the shoes. How on earth are her feet even able to fit into those shoes? Maybe she’s one of those fortunate women who’s feet don’t swell very much, but I can’t even imagine the torture her feet must have been going through.

    • Janet B

When you have a difficult time seeing the ground it’s time to ditch the ‘killer shoes’. My feet hurt in sympathy.

    • butterflysunita

I actually think she looks gorgeous. Yes, it is a satin bed sheet but it’s an especially lovely one. And the dress also looks comfortable for a pregnant woman, which is important.

      • surfergirl70

I agree. I actually really liked the color on her, and however bedsheet-y it may have looked, it worked with her belly. Plus the utter gorgeousness of what was going on north of her shoulders made everything work. Great skin, hair and makeup.

      • Sobaika

Me too! I love that she brought out the dark lip. She looks chic and comfortable. I wish it weren’t satin and didn’t wrinkle as much, but I thought she looked fab.

        • kmk05

I think part of the problem is that satin is coming back into fashion. That bedsheet dress would have been a lot less offensive in some other fabric.

OTOH, she’s in because look at her belly, then her shoes, then her perfect face. She should be commended! (Like you, I really loved the dark lip).

    • JauntyJohn

Some of the BK’s will remember SNL’s first season running gag on Weekend Update: “Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!”

I’m beginning to say to myself, in the same newscaster voice, every time I see her now, “Kerry Washington is still pregnant!”
No disrespect to the lovely lady, but the Awards Season coverage has been such that it has telescoped the pictures of her to such a degree that it feels like she’s been pregnant forever.

      • alyce1213

I do believe the longest recorded show business pregnancy in history was Jessica Simpson. She had the baby after about 20 months, and the next day, she got pregnant again.

        • Coolekat

I remember it happening that way, too.

        • demidaemon

          HA! Yet so true.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I was pretty sure she was giving birth to an elephant after that gestation period.

      • Beth513

I think she and I are probably due around the same time and I wake up every morning and think “still!” and that’s with almost 2 months to go. It takes a long time to gestate a human being.

        • demidaemon

Just imagine if you were a horse or an elephant. I know there are animals out there who are pregnant for 24 months.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

On this occasion I would have missed one of the bracelets! I like how the pin echoes the shape of her earrings though, and I like the hair.

    • sugarkane105

I thought she looked like a very ripe eggplant.

    • marlie

I like the color, and I’d like the fabric if it wasn’t wrinkled, but I do hate the shapeless bedsheet-y-ness of it. Her makeup looks pretty, and I might be trying that hairstyle on myself tomorrow.

    • Introspective

Just not good in color or shape…And the satin is wrinkly and seeping up the residual dampness from the LA rains. So not good. Kerry can do waaay better.

But maybe she’s so preggers shes over it. I remember getting to that phase in the 3rd trimester and I dont have the stiletto type of wardrobe requirements in my job that she has in hers…

    • Jessica Freeman

While never having been pregnant, I would imagine at her stage, she may have asked for a glorified bed sheet. One cannot blame her. I didn’t notice the shoes before, but they are gorgeous. I would have loved her more for wearing flats though.

    • webslice33

and she forgot to have it dry cleaned too..the garment is too wrinkly…

      • alyce1213

I noticed when she got on stage to present, it was less wrinkled. I imagine they have an industrial-strength steamer backstage.
        Still ugly, though.

    • bertkeeter

Could it look any worse? Probably…but wow what a dog of a color and dress to put on such a gorgeous woman ! I don’t think strapless is the most flatering line on someone whoe’s pregnant…at least not this contraption!

    • hughman

That pin looks like she was between doing pin curls on customers at the Salon and needed a place to hold a clip while she took a phone call.

      • demidaemon

        Exactly.

    • ashtangajunkie

I loved this when I saw it last night. It’s a little lackluster in photos – the photos also shows the wrinkles, which I didn’t notice last night – but I still like it.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

Sorry all, but this was by no means the worst pregnant look on the carpet last night. This look, compared to the.. I don’t even have words.. by Chris Hemsworths wife Elsa Pataky.. egads, I do not know what to say about it, but I know I gasped when I saw it and not in a good way.

I think Kerry looks classy and pretty. I feel like both of these are a huge accomplishment for any normal human but when you are pregnant, it is like climbing Mount Everest, in heels. ;) So I give her 6 thumbs up.

      • alyce1213

I saw that atrocity. It looked like a transparent insect sac.

      • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

Your comment had me going over to Google Elsa Pataky since I missed her Oscar presence. Holy crap.

        • sojourneryouth

Me too. Normally I love sparkles, and the color green, but something about the vulgar way the belly is being hugged by the dress–it should be any color but green! It kind of made her look like some alien queen about to birth the next overlord.

          • heartbot

It’s the overhang. I remember being horrified when my belly started doing that.

        • Introspective

ok elsa looked a right mess. but to her credit, unlike the other preggers stars, she’s carrying twins and is obviously in her last trimester. so basically she’s got a bowling ball’s worth of weight in her midsection.

so while that dress was hiddy, i give her a pass for the dropped waist with the band underneath that belly. cause im sure she needed all the wardrobe help she could to hold her up during that neverending ceremony.

          • Erica

Yeah, I have twins, and when I read that she is pregnant with twins, I showed my husband the photo and said could you imagine? I was stuck on the couch per doctor’s orders in too short sweats at that point. It did look like her cervix was going to lose the battle at any moment, though.

      • Kitten Mittons

Elsa’s was definitely worse, but I felt like both gowns did the same thing: obscured and distorted their beautiful pregnant figures. Would have loved to see both in something that defined the belly and showed off their curves instead of obliterating them.
I’m all for comfort when pregnant, and I can’t even imagine having to go to something like the Oscars being THAT pregnant. Having said that, I wouldn’t have ever gone out in a dress that looked like a sheet at that late stage of pregnancy, mostly because looking like a mass of fabric would have made me burst into tears and eat a blizzard. Probably simultaneously. And probably two blizzards. But that’s just me.

      • Jessica Freeman

Bless Elsa for being pregnant with Hemsworth twins and still showing up. But that certainly was not a good dress for her.

      • FrigidDiva

You know, I don’t mind the dresses that hug the belly, but with Elsa’s there was no definition between her bust and her belly. It was just one huge mass. I like the idea of the waist support, but that design was just horrid. Plus, I don’t think it helped that her and Chris really clashed color wise. I don’t think couples need to match perfectly, but I do think they need to coordinate looks somewhat since they’re going to be photographed together.

    • Gatto Nero

The color, wrinkles, and seam puckering really derail this — and it’s such a shame, because I think she should get a pass just for showing up.
And the heels! My feet ache in sympathy.
I hope she can take a long rest now.

    • MilaXX

I don’t hate this even though it really does look like a fancy bedsheet. It also appeared less wrinkled when I saw her later in the show, so perhaps someone had a steamer backstage.

    • Julia

      Bridesmaid.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

Didn’t hate this, but thought something was missing.

    • Akemi

She looks like someone who is really, really happy that awards season is over.

    • tessasouthworth

I am such a Kerry Washington fan, but like the guys, as much as I wanted to like this dress, I couldn’t help but think that it looked like a shower curtain. Her face does look glorious, and major props to anyone who can maneuver a red carpet in such a late stage in pregnancy on heels to boot. I know I couldn’t.

    • Judy_J

This looked prettier on the pre-Oscars red carpet show. In these photos, the color looks like putty, and the fabric looks really cheap. It almost looks like she was in the delivery room, wrapped a sheet around herself, and got up to put in an appearance at the show.

    • mickiemonkey

I thought she looked gorgeous and I loved how she lit up when the pizza came around.

      • butterflysunita

Maybe she was having a craving!

    • Jacob Bowen

I actually like the color and shape but not the shine of the fabric. I think had it been a different fabric this could have been splendid. Those shoes are KILLER though!

      • ballerinawithagun

        I love the color!

    • HeisenbergHattie

I heard one TV commentator say that the red carpet was pretty damp and that some gowns (this one was mentioned) soaked up moisture and got wrinkled. Later, she must have gotten “steamed” because when she was onstage as a presenter, the wrinkles were gone and the dress looked a lot better.

      • GillianHolroyd

I see a couple dark patches near the hem but those wrinkles further up? That’s from sitting down. Cheap shiny fabric, that is.

    • KayEmWhy

      Awww girl…….. She’s a beautiful woman though.

    • http://timjonesyelvington.com Tim Jones-Yelvington

The pin looks like a pen cap. Seriously, pull out a felt tip pen, that’s xactly what it looks like. I know because I keep them clipped into my clothes half the day when Im at work.

    • majorbedhead

She looks exhausted. Who can blame her? I hope she went straight home, put her feet up, and ate some ice cream.

I FINALLY started watching Scandal. What a good show.

    • decormaven

Props for presenting, but not the best look for her. I’d rather see the fabric tied over one shoulder. This is just too close to wearing a sheet for me.

    • SophieCollier

Very bedsheety. But far better than the strange pod thing Chris Hemsworth’s wife was wearing.

    • SailorLuna

      I NEED that lip color.

    • Kristina Sadowski

She looks gorgeous, but that dress is quite literally the color of my bedsheets. The wrinkle in the gown makes it look like a used bedsheet.

    • Victoria

I disagree. I LOVE this color. My nitpick is that she shouldn’t have gone with such a dark lipstick.

    • Warrior89

I thought she looked lovely, and I liked the dress. Yes, it was wrinkly, which detracted a bit, but I liked the simplicity and the color.

    • ms_kat

I am not a fan of the posing. The foot out to show off her laboutin shiny shiny shoes looks…. like a Jolie-gambit.

    • Lilithcat

Why, why, do pregnant celebrities always pose with their hands under their bellies?

      • theblondette

So you don’t possibly think for even 5 seconds they have got – gasp!! – fat!

    • Victoria Anzalone

Agree on pretty much all counts, but I still think this is her best maternity look so far. Greater than the sum of its parts.

    • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

This is one of my favorite colors to wear as a woman with coloring similar to Kerry’s! (This, Lupita’s sea blue, and gray are my faves.) The shiny satin-ness may be too much, but I love how she paired it with matte fingernails and, as @Sobaika:disqus mentioned, the gorgeous matte-ish dark lip. I think gold with this color would have been so warm and beautiful, but that’s my main quibble.

    • H2olovngrl

This reminds me of when I had to be the matron of honor for my best friend’s wedding while six months pregnant. Everyone had their burgundy satin gowns made with teeny little sparkly straps, sweet heart necklines, fitted at the waist, and there was I, with what could only be summed up as a giant satin sheet wrapped around me, Grecian goddess style, barely held together with bits of rhinestone, no support in the boobage area, whatsoever and just all around unfortunate. The worst part, is with my auburn hair and coloring, I should have been able to work the color, but no. None of the seamstresses had any clue what to do with my giant shapeless mass, so I ended up getting my mother in law to reinforce all the work and correct some of the errors. At least Kerri doesn’t look that bad.

      • demidaemon

I really feel for you. Please tell me you sequestered all the pictures of yourself at this event and had them ritually burned.

        • H2olovngrl

I thought more about sequestering and burning all the other bridesmaids! ; )

          • demidaemon

            That bad, huh? ;)

    • Truthiness2U

I disagree about the colour. I loved it, and loved it on her. I thought it was flattering to her make-up/lip colour especially. I liked the top part of the dress, the pin does make it. But I didn’t like the skirt, which is where the fabric choice just killed it, by making it so wrinkly, so quickly.

I liked the hair, but it looks like she might have gotten some of the dreaded frizz from the weather with the ends there.

    • empath

the assymetrical bodice is giving her major titscrepency… that adds to the bedsheets look. do not like. she’s been a goddess the entire pregnancy until now…

    • enchanted216

I think it’s gorgeous, and I love the makeup and the shoes.

    • theblondette

Whyyyyy would you put a pregnant woman in a strapless gown? Ugh. Let her boobs be properly supported, poor dear.

    • KES4K

I think the rain and humidity did her a disservice. In her red carpet interview/step-and-repeat, she looked really good – no wrinkles and no frizz.

    • Corsetmaker

      That side seam looks awful!

    • Jecca2244

all i could think was how hungry she must have been last night!!!

    • Beth513

I am 8 months pregnant and feel terrible for saying this because I couldn’t even begin to look this good or wear those shoes, but she looks wrinkled and I wish she’d stop posing with her hand under her belly – get a maternity support belt and some supportive shoes!

    • Wendy Kaufman

You forgot the awful puckered side seams. Looks like it was a class project. It had promise, but the execution…

    • Pennymac

Whatever color that is, I don’t think its very flattering. Plum? Mauve? Greyish tan?

    • Jacqueline Wessel

The jewelry and the shoes are fab. They and Kerry deserved a better dress.

    • formerlyAnon

I like this. Not love, but gal’s on the red carpet very pregnant. Also she looks as if something is hurting or she’s just at the stage of vaguely uncomfortable all the time. Hair is underwhelming me, props for the shoes.

      • livesarah

Looks as if something is hurting? First bet would be the shoes…

    • Judy_S

Ha. I liked the color and shininess but hated the big old safety pin or giant ballpoint clip or whatever.

    • crash1212

Looked like the steamer person got to her before she presented because she wasn’t wrinkled on stage. I thought this was lovely. I really like this color and the shoes are fierce. Also, she obviously retains the dominant gene for being able to choose the perfect red lipstick, because that’s looks great as well. Good hair. I think she did very well for herself.

      • Qitkat

I thought she looked great on stage. These stills aren’t that flattering though.

    • Alyssa

Love the makeup, love the shoes. That’s all.

    • gracedarling

Dear God, is her pregnancy never going to move to her face?!!

(Says a woman whose cheeks ballooned in the 38th week. Either that’s immaculate contouring or she’s just a beautiful freak of nature.)

      • livesarah

The only thing I like about the 50lb weight gain last time around and this time around with my second is that my face looks a bit softer! She has a decent amount of contouring going on here though, and I’m quite sure she hasn’t gained 50lb :P

      • Qitkat

Oh I totally think you can see more roundness in her face, which is perfectly normal at this stage. Just look at pictures from a year ago. She’s just so naturally slim that there is only a subtle change.

    • Sunraya

I worry about Kerry in those shoes!! I thought I liked this at first last night, but looking at it now, I wonder how much those bedsheets cost?? Really unimpressive.

    • Sunraya

And when did the constant cradling of the fetus become a “thing”? My youngest is 19, and we never did this!!!

      • embers618

I don’t think she’s cradling the fetus so much as holding up her belly for support. Depending on the type of foundational garments she’s wearing, she may actually have to hold her belly like that to keep her balance as she’s walking. My youngest is 2, I clearly remember holding my belly in the center of my body as I walked so that the swaying motion wouldn’t get too out of control, and also to support my lower back.

      • Alloy Jane

I have never known a pregnant woman to not hold her belly. I know most of them are filled with the “I LOVE MY BABY” ecstasy and can’t help but hug their belly the way they would hug their children. Other times, it’s like @embers618:disqus said, logistics require you to hold on for dear life. I see pregnant ladies all the time since I live by an elementary school.

    • sarct

I will never understand why people continue to make dresses out of shiny satin. Does it EVER look good?

I do like this color, though, not necessarily on her. And I think her makeup looks great.

    • SketchyCat

I stopped watching PR many seasons ago, though I’ve avidly followed T & Lo since their Blogger days and read their recaps for each season. Have they ever done an episode with pregnant women? If they did, I suspect that this Jason Wu “design” would be auf’ed.

Having given birth three months ago, I can vouch for the need to be comfortable at the late stage. But if someone truly desires to be comfortable–enough to wear a fancy bath wrap on the red carpet–why wear killer stilettos? Does not compute.

      • demidaemon

They did do one, in the LA season (1st season at lifetime). However, it was just the regular models wearing pregnancy bellies, so I’m not exactly sure it is what you are thinking of.

        • SketchyCat

Ah, that explains why I didn’t remember. I completely blocked that season from my memory. It’s funny: looking at some of the designers’ actual names, I only remember them because of their TLo names (Nicolas = Peppermint Patty, Christopher = Chin Strap, etc.).

Models with pregnancy bellies is not in the same area code as non-model pregnant women. While I think that, from a design perspective, such a show might yield interesting results, I also fear that such an episode would be a total train wreck of Drama and Heightened Emotion. Not to mention that half the ladies would probably end up in the fancy bath wraps like this dress. And this dress would win the challenge, and we’d all be up in arms, throwing pillows at the TV and saying things like, “Those judges have been passing the crack pipe again!” and “They’re overpraising the dress because that designer is their pet, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep her/him in the game!”

Huh. That vision made me kind of miss PR…

          • demidaemon

HAHAHAHA! So true, so true. You know what, I think we should cower in fear, because now your idea is on the internet for all to see, including the wayward producers of PR. Real pregnant woman challenge coming in the 12th (is that the number? I’m not sure) season of PR.

            • SketchyCat

Oh, I can *totally* see the contestants being challenged with designing a dress for a pregnant celeb to wear. (I like to think that Lifetime wouldn’t be cruel enough to subject non-celebrity pregnant women to that experience.)

Frankly, I’m surprised they’ve never had to do so for Heidi. Hey, she hasn’t been pregnant for what, like five minutes? So she’s overdue to make that happen. Do it for the viewers, Heidi! :0)

            • demidaemon

You believe Lifetime has much higher standards than I do.

    • ampg

Someone please explain to me how a custom gown can be two inches too long? Did they actually think she would be wearing HIGHER heels?

    • LadyKateC

Those shoes in late pregnancy? No. Even if it is the Oscars, you get a pass when you’re in your third trimester. I think she looks ill at ease, she must be so uncomfortable.

    • lizajane1776

I don’t get how her hair is complicated. I looks like mine did almost 30 years ago when I was pregnant.

    • LeelaST

I honestly thought she had a pen clipped to her dress – nerd chic.

Completely disagree. Loved the color on her and the hair. Looked terribly chic from this seat.

      • AViewer44

I agree. I the ought she looked stun ing and animated, and I loved the color and her lipstick. (Also her face was one of the few whose face didn’t look botoxed to eternity, which was a real plus.)

    • Alloy Jane

There is just so much bad hair to hate today. The color of the dress is lovely but it def does look like she rolled outta bed and wrapped herself in a bed sheet so she could go all Cookie Monster on a bucket of blackberries. That’s the only reason to explain that chola lipstick. The shoes are nice though.

    • LadyLuck777

I’m not sure if it’s the shoes or the parasite, but she looks profoundly uncomfortable.

    • Erica

But this woman can rock a sateen toga like no one else, amirite?

    • Karen Clark

She was my one mis-hit of the night

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

She wrapped an old parachute around herself and held it in place with a ballpoint pen.

      • AnneElliot

That pin just looks like a pen stuck in her cleavage. Can’t unsee it. However, her face is ethereal, so who’s looking at the dress?

    • Kimmu

She looks like she’s wearing dirty bedsheets. Who thought that was a good idea? There were several other heavily pregnant women at this show and they all looked light years better than her.

    • Kelly

Cue Tammy Wynette — “Satin sheets to lie on. . .”

    • Gloriana Reginata

No, *no* points in the world for wearing utterly unrealistic shows while so pregnant! Dear heavens, if there was ever the time in your life to have an excuse to wear decent shoes – you know, the walkable kind men get to wear every day without criticism – it should be when you’re lugging an entire other person around in your midsection. If only more beautiful women at high-fashion events would wear beautiful, striking, *flat* shoes, perhaps a trend could start that would have fewer women landing up needing foot surgery later in life.

      • ShaoLinKitten

And fewer women tripping over traffic cones and almost taking their friends out with them.

        • Gloriana Reginata

Heh, that sounded like the voice of a bitter experience :)

          • ShaoLinKitten

People were saying that Jennifer Lawrence faked her second fall, but I gotta tell you, I doubt it. She damn near took the woman in front of her out, and did you see the height of her heels? Even with practice, there is no way I could successfully walk in spike heels. None whatsoever. The expectation that one must wear such dizzyingly high heels is pain-inducing. I know these are Hollywood stars so don’t cry for them Argentina, but for us mere mortals (which JLaw still has pretensions of being)… tres dangerous.
ETA: to say nothing of walking in such heels in the third trimester… my ankles were like tree trunks… unthinkable.

    • EEKstl

No no no no. When are ladystars going to learn that satin is NOT their friend on the RC? Unless you have a minion available to follow you around all night with a steamer step AWAY from the shiny!

    • smh4748

I really like everything about this, except for the “moldy grape” color. But she looks comfortable, pretty, and stylish, none of which are particularly easy to achieve at that stage in the pregnancy game.

    • susu

I actually love her hair and the shape of the dress… hate the color and how wrinkly it is.

    • demidaemon

That pin is so distracting. I can’t really see anything else.

    • CarrieBaby

Aside from the wrinkles in the dress, I loved this look and the hair. Anything is better than the too-tight crop look she sported a couple of weeks ago

    • rhymeswithorange

Kerry! Alas, she is a mere mortal, with non-good looks in her pregnancy!

    • suzq

Live and learn. Next time when the stylist presents the outfit to you, grab that fabric in your hands and crumple it the hell up. If you see wrinkles, DEMAND BETTER FABRIC or at least a darker fabric, so they don’t show. I like the idea of the dress. On stage, she looked beautiful. Close up, however, not so much.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

You may be right about the color, but snaps of respect for looking so awesome (and with HEELS) when you’re pregnant.

    • conniemd

I believe she said in her red carpet interview on ABC that it was Jason Wu’s first Oscar dress. It was a lot less wrinkled then, too.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

When she came out to present an award, color, shape, and shine were all perfection. Maybe she should have changed between RC and giving the award, but THIRD TRIMESTER.

    • peachy

her hair style often gives her the oddest shaped head, as it does here. fire them all, rehire a nanny, a stylist with some sense, and for god’s sake, a decent hairstylist.
