    • clatie

she looks fantastic – and I am no big fan of hers or anything. love the hair

    • altalinda

This moved so beautifully on stage.

      • decormaven

Yes! This dress was made for the stage.

      • RuthGo

Yes! It was just so fun when she walked across the stage.

    • ashtangajunkie

I liked this a lot. It’s better than her usual choices, although I thought she could have used a necklace and a belt. Wish she hadn’t chosen a shoe from the Lady Gaga collection.

      • Introspective

jesus those shoes look like prom hooves from delia’s. they look flammable. and should probably be burned.

        • DagnyReardon

Lupita fired her shoe sherpa. The sherpa found new employment chez Affleck-Garner.

      • Ginger

I actually think that the waist sits a smidge too high on her body, which is one of the problems. I like the dress, but think a belt might’ve helped with the line. The shoes just need to go away.

        • ampg

It seems belts are out, now? Just as I was really starting to figure out how to deploy them to enhance the line of a dress, too. I agree that it would’ve helped the line quite a bit.

      • Janet B

I thought the platform was just high enough to keep anyone from hemming the dress.

      • AnaRoW

I those shoes were actually from the Gaga collection she’d need someone to hold her up. She actually appears to be able to walk on her own judging by the last pic. BTW this is the best I’ve seen her.

      • lundibleu

I think she looks great because it’s so different to anything she’d normally wear. I’d go with a necklace, but think a belt would look odd.

    • MaryMitch

This brought out the kid in me… I want a dress like this!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Personal best IMHO. She looks terrific.

    • Pennymac

I was underwhelmed by this. Seeing the movement pics changes my opinion a smidge, but standing still it (especially the bodice) looks cheap. Which its not. Not a fan.

      • Paigealicious

I also liked the flapper-ish skirt, but that bodice and the weird waistline really do scream cheap.

        • ballerinawithagun

          Basic sundress pattern with fringe.

        • demidaemon

Exactly my POV. Good skirt, bad bodice, so-so fit.

      • FrigidDiva

Exactly. I think if there would have been a belt to do something with that waist this would have been so much better. As is it just feels like an “ehhh” to me.

      • Carrps

I hate the bodice too. Too straight across and ill-fitting, and I wish she’d gone with a colored shoe. But the fringe when she moved very nearly made up for it.

    • majorbedhead

In movement, this is nice, but the hair. MY hair looks like that most days. And I’m not walking red carpets.

    • Sunraya

Face looks gorgeous!! I didn’t like this in a picture, but I heard that it looked great in motion. I don’t know. Still a “Meh” from me.

And thanks, you guys, for all your hard work. I have enjoyed every word of it.

    • Billie_Dawn

I like how, when Ben Affleck was the center of media attention, she wore a bunch of Serious Actress, Supportive Spouse dresses. But now, when it’s her movie that’s nominated, she’s all, “Fuck yeah, silver fringe!” I approve.

    • BayTampaBay

This is what you wear when you are “Oscar Royalty” but not nominated. A very classy choice.

      Did Rachel Zoe style her?

    • Coleen

I’m not usually a fan of greige looks, but she looks comfortable and gorgeous. Plus I am a sucker for beaded fringe.

    • @Biting Panda

I just love her. This whole thing works, for me. The movement, the lippy/nail color, the soft hair, the choice to leave the slouching, permanently sour hubby at home. J’adore!

      • marlie

I will always love Sydney Bristow.

        • @Biting Panda

Always. We’ve got them on dvd, I can’t wait for my youngest to be ready for them.

          • kimmeister

The Phase One episode is probably my favorite episode of anything, ever.

    • Blair Sylvester

beautiful dress, no to the platform shoes. Wish she had chosen a bag that popped more and maybe lose the big bracelet and add a necklace

    • Tracy M

Love it. Love the dress, the way it moved, the hair, the make-up. I will simply ignore the existence of the shoes.

    • RescueMe23

This was great looking when she walked out to present. There’s something to be said for a gown with some “fun” in it. Her hair & makeup look great too.

    • PastryGoddess

Top is bad. Bottom is fab. Shoes are horiffic. Hair and makeup look great

      • Introspective

yes. love the swingy effect on the skirt, but thinking this begs for a better bodice than a sequined version of everyone’s favorite h&m spaghetti strap tank.

the hair/makeup are a definite personal best. and for that, snaps!

      • DaringMiss

I agree. The top is shapeless and very mall prom dress. The waist is just a smidge too high making her look thick around the middle.

      • scoobynacks

Yeah the wrinkling in the top from how it fits is working against the lines of the fabric. It looks like it needs to be steamed or probably just swapped out with something more substantial.

    • jw_ny

A fringed silver dress, diamonds, and silver stripper shoes…and I still find her dull as dishwater. I almost don’t understand this phenomenon…

    • Liz

In stills it’s an OK, while moving she looked great. I didn’t notice the shoes until someone pointed them out-not good.

    • deelup

I love this. Her hair looks a little more like it’s already the end of the night though.

    • kmk05

CHANDELIER! I don’t know, Uncles. It looks a bit costumey. But she’s happy in it, her hair looks phenomenal compared to her usual (and so does her face), so… IN, I guess. But those shoes have to go. Sandals, Jenny darling! (Oh wait it isn’t an IN/OUT post, ha!)

    • Kate

What’s with the prom-gown spaghetti straps?

    • Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

I wished she styled her hair in a better way. Otherwise, lovely dress!!

    • Jacquelyn

I’m just excited by this dress at all. She’s pretty, of course, but overall I just feel “meh” about it.

    • Kelly

A dress like a boudoir lampshade or one of those shimmery hotel ballroom chandeliers, coupled with messy hair. This one’s a “no” for me.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Love the dress; hate the hair, too messy.

    • SugarSnap108

The dress is OK, especially when she moves. I think her hair is a mess, though.

    • marlie

The pros: I like the color, and the dress moved beautifully. Jen’s makeup and hair were pretty, though a little downplayed.

The cons: I HATE the bodice. HATE. IT. One strap must have been a teensy bit shorter than the other, because the bodice is imbalanced, and it was making my eye twitch while she was on stage. Plus, it’s not a terribly flattering or interesting bodice, anyway. Those DTM platforms should be set on fire, and I wish she hadn’t had a matchy clutch.

      • demidaemon

I agree with you on the cons, which make this pretty much a miss for me.

    • theblondette

I find this very boring. The neckline is so unflattering and it just looks… cheap, somehow. Not a fan.

    • Chelsea

      Those shoes are tragic.

    • WendyD

She had the best on-stage accessory of the night: Benedict Cumberbatch.

    • Kimberly Wilcox

Is lampshade from the 80s a style for dress now? I’m all for a flapper fringe dress, this is not that dress. The top bit of the dress looks like its fitted poorly (at best) or made totally wrong. Though I do like the idea of a silver dress…why….WHY would she carry a silver clutch and wear silver shoes?!

    • SewingSiren

The gown is beautiful. The hair doesn’t “go” with it. The shoes are horrid.

    • Lily

This looked really nice on the carpet, nice movement, but it was made for the stage. A real stunner under the lights. Her hair and makeup look great.

    • Lilithcat

Below the waist, yes. But that bodice throws the dress off. And she needs a hairstyle more suited to a formal event.

Oh, lord! I just saw her shoes. She’s wearing heavy platforms. Wrong, so wrong.

    • SportifLateBoomer

The spaghetti straps make me sad, for some reason.

    • boweryboy

From the waist down: stunning. From the waist up: tragic.

ETA: omg. I just saw the shoes. omg.

      • Aurora Leigh

        Yes, OMG shoes, indeed.

    • TigerLaverada

I liked the dress in motion. In stills it doesn’t translate well. Her hair seems casual, but many of the ladies of last evening had hair that didn’t seem up to the Oscars, so I guess it’s ‘on trend’.

    • Lizzy

I love fringe…. more than I probably should.
Not wild about the hoof shoe….

    • Lexistential

I love the flapper detail and its movement, but hate the color. And those are some clodhopper shoes. I thought it was underwhelming.

    • Lizzy

Anyone else think maybe the straps were added??

    • Mrs. Julien

What if they took off the top one or two tiers of fringe? I can’t believe I’m saying that. I am unconvinced there is such a thing as too much fringe.

    • Jessica Freeman

I really love the skirt. That’s about it.

    • bravobravp

      Very “styled by Rachel Zoe”.

    • Judih1

Wish she had worn her hair up? And where is her husband? Seems like they should have been photographed together just like Matthew MacConahany (sic) and his wife – who isn’t even an actress

      • Lucía Gavello

Why on earth should she be photographed with her husband? When did that become a requirement?

        • Judih1

Not that it is a requirement. Just wondered why Matthew is almost ALWAYS photographed with non-actress wife and since both Jennifer and Ben are award winners (Jen for TV roles), they are more of a power couple than Matthew and Camilla. Beyonce and JayZ, Angelina and Brad etc. I guess the question really is why is Camilla always photographer with Matthew?

          • demidaemon

Because she is only there as his date. Jennifer is there on her own status.

    • Lilyana_F

I love the skirt part and the movement of it, but the bodice is weird. Great hair!

    • Janet B

I think this is one of her better RC dresses. She usually looks as if she’s trying to hard, this was more understated (if silver fringe can be understated).

      • Lucía Gavello

I agree, it’s a great non-nominee dress, glamorous but not showy. I find myself wishing for a pop of colour or a belt (even though I’m not exactly sure how that would work).

    • Little_Olive

Hmm not loving the bodice, the way it hits the waist, the effect when the fringe moves (which should be the best).
Hate the shoes with a passion.
Nice color for her is all I’ve got.

    • Qitkat

I did like this on her, and she looked very pretty. But all us BKs have been schooled, and we know she missed the boat. Matchy shoes and bag. Crying out for some COLOR.

    • decormaven

The shoes are too heavy for my taste, but she looked great on stage.

    • Maya

i thought she looked lovely, except for the shoes. clodhoppers, my mom would have called them.

    • Stubenville

In some of the stills, the bodice reminds me of an apron. For reasons I can’t articulate well, the dress falls flat, despite all the tinsel.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I loved the movement on that dress and it looked amazing on her.

    • H2

I like the way the dress moved, but I’d love to see her in something sexier and more mature. This is a dress that my tall teen daughter could pull off and I would consider very appropriate. The hair is a little blah to me. Hate hate hate the shoes.

    • B_C_J

She is a beautiful woman. However the dress is odd due to the fact that the top looks unfinished & not flattering at all. The skirt is fun although certainly not new. Her shoes are atrocious.

    • MsC

I wasn’t sure about this dress, until I saw her onstage. It just made her sa-SHAY.

    • MaggieMae

Thumbs down on the bodice. Want her hair to look more like Sandra’s. She looks great though!

    • Danielle

She looks like the giant chandelier in the Cosmopolitan hotel in Vegas.

      • Nice_Shirt

I thought everyone would be saying the same thing – giant chandelier. I’m actually surprised people like it as much as they do, because I can’t see anything else.

        • Danielle

We got back from Vegas a month ago, I still have it on the brain.

    • AMartel

The hair is not good and the dress makes her look wide.

    • Christopher

hated the dress on her…. big miss

    • A Shiny O’Connor

How can that much sparkle be so boring. If Lupita was wearing this, she’d be shaking the shit out of it for effect.

    • Brittany

I thought she looked like she was having fun at least.

    • belfebe

This is probably the best she’s ever looked. Attagirl.

    • Jacob Bowen

Those shoes are TRAGIC. But the bust area/straps of that dress are ehhhhh. Not great. The swinging fringe though elicited several gasps at my party.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Loved this! Her hair looks fantastic too.

    • Akemi

This is gorgeous! Not sure about the shoes, but now at least I understand how she was practically as tall as Cumberbatch on stage.

    • Cassidy Olsen

Ugh, gown-length flapper lampshade. And those shoes are making me cringe. Her head looks nice!

    • formerlyAnon

That gown was a triumph on stage when she was walking. Her hair is good, too.

    • Twostarzz

To matchy… match… Promoliscuous worthy… all that was missing was her corsage

    • Sally Spannagle

Not a fan. I like the bottom of the dress but everything on it from the waist up (not including her beautiful face) just looked awkward and a little frumptown.

    • Talia

Horrible boring color, meh dress. Thumbs down.

    • Cheryl

Standing still, this is kind of meh, but when she walked on stage and the it moved in such a wonderful way to accelerated to oooooh.

    • MartyBellerMask

Not loving it. The shoes kill it (in a bad way) for me.

    • mickiemonkey

She got a collective gasp from our roomful of bitches.

    • MilaXX

Hair and makeup look good, but the dress works better in motion. When she came out to announce an award, I got a new found appreciate for this.

    • Aidan B

Beautiful movement and sparkle. No complai- nope, she saw the shoes. One complaint.

    • Ashleigh

      This is so Deco-fabulous!

    • elirt

Lovely! She usually dresses and is styled too severely. She looks great and you can tell she’s feelin’ it.

    • LJCdoc

1972 called. They want their beaded door curtain thingee back.

    • ChristopherM

I think that considering that she has used the last five years to have about 20 of Ben Affleck’s babies, she looks remarkable. Work that fringe, girl!

    • LeelaST

Pretty, but this was a bit too cha-cha, much better for me when she was standing still. And now that I see those shoes…

    • Sabin

I love the bottom of the dress (anything hinting Deco is okay by me), but the top looks like a different dress.

    • http://ediblecville.blogspot.com Libby

LOVE this dress! Especially the way it moved when she walked. And she was the ONE STAR who didn’t have frizzy hair. Not sure about the drag queen platforms though…

    • Clash D

Agree with the posters saying that she needed a belt. And those shoes are awful. But I’m also not in favor of her make up, which is aging and is giving ‘butter face’ here.

    • traceyishere

      Stunning

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

It’s probably just me, but that doesn’t seem like the right color dress for her.

      • Gatto Nero

Agree — it looks a little washed out.
With darker hair and lips, maybe.

    • Kim Albrechtsen

Im not a fan of the top of this dress. If it had continued from the bottom to the top seamlessly it would have been magic! I like that she picked a dress to have some fun in though. :)

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I’m a silver girl (Seriously, all of my jewelry is sterling silver.), so I love this. Yeah, she could have picked better shoes, but at least these keep her from stepping on the fringe. The movement of the skirt is so fluid and sexy.

    • KT

Very very pretty — one of my favorite looks of the night. Slightly unique, suits her nicely, looks fun to wear. But dear GOD those shoes must be burned immediately!!!!!

    • kim bunchalastnames

i think this is the best she’s looked in a long time. the hair, especially, is just perfect. after seeing all the “running errands” or “playdates” or “walks around town with ben,” you get used to her looking a little … well, plain. it takes a moment like this, a dress like this, hair and makeup like this to remind us that she’s a stunning beauty.

    • nowlo

The shoes make me cringe, but the skirt on the dress is fun. I’d be twirling and shaking my hips all night.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      Oooh, I LOVE this dress!

    • E. D.

Loved everything but the stripper platforms. Can that die now PLEASE??

    • ThaliaMenninger

I like her hair. But the dress isn’t a good color for her in my eyes and those shoes are hideous. Meanwhile, where was Ben? He got the big win last year. Shouldn’t he have been there this year to hand somebody else the trophy?

    • Trickytrisha

Lordy, lordy Miss Jen is looking angelic. Face, hair, and that dress… all fantastic! Notice I didn’t mention the shoes. What shoes? I don’t see any.

    • Karen Clark

      She was lovely

    • bertkeeter

Mitzi Gaynor wants her dress back!

    • e jerry powell

So somebody told her to turn on the car wash in that last photo…

    • Alfred Cox

Glamorous. She’s finally embracing some glitz and glamour. Good for her.

    • LambeeBaby

I don’t like it at all. The color is awful and dreary. The waist hits in an odd spot and the shoes… I like her but this is a total miss.

    • Mrs. O

Love the swing in that fringe!

    • pdquick

It needs something above the waist. A bolero, maybe?

    • guest2visits

So surprised to hear this dress got slammed on a few shows; I loved it! She looked terrific last night; it brought some lightness and fun into her style and for some reason I was incredibly happy for her.

    • Bokharitt Kinantahz

A million times better than last year.

    • somebody blonde

Well this sure looked better last night than it does in the photos. In these, it’s underwhelming, but it looked great on my TV last night.

    • demidaemon

I like the skirt better than the bodice, but I think it’s a bit on the enh side. I understand she was just a presenter and all, but she could have picked something with better fit and a tiny bit more pizazz.

    • EEKstl

Bodice is too big and would have looked much better without the straps. But it shimmied when she walked on stage and looked great. A presenters dress, for sure.

    • KinoEye

This gown was great in motion, but this is the first time I’m really looking at the shoes. ICK. Shooves for sure.

    • mlle

This is the awards show version of a dress she wore during one of her escapades on Alias.

    • Daktari100

Oh no she better don’t do her own hair for the Academy Awards!

    • GillianHolroyd

Judging by these stills, a palpable miss. Unflattering color, dated hair style, unrecognizable makeup.

    • peachy

this dress was spec-freaking-tacular to watch as she walked. the absolutely perfect dress for her. pssstt…. jen, wear a belt honey. sometimes it’s cool if you look at the runway style and, um, take a note.
