Natasha Lyonne at the 2014 PaleyFest “Orange is the New Black” Event

Posted on March 17, 2014

We’d love to get a hold of this girl and train her, like a princess. A princess who does red carpet tricks. It’ll be a Pygmalion for the modern age, darlings.

Natasha Lyonne attends the 2014 PaleyFest “Orange is the New Black” event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.

We almost literally bumped into her at the Christian Siriano show in New York last month and marveled as she gave good interview to an array of lights, cameras and recording devices. She’s the very definition of “game.” We found her instantly likable from afar, in that way we all fall in love with celebrities we couldn’t possibly know a true thing about.  But one thing we noted then (and which is fairly SCREAMING AT US in these pics) is how much she could use just a little bit of poise training for cameras. Our impression of her is that she’s all personality and rapid-fire commentary, which means it’s pretty much a certainty that she was running her mouth off loudly while these pics were being taken. We saw her do the same thing at Fashion Week and we remember thinking, “Natasha, STOP. Your mouth is going to be open in every picture!” The thing is, she gives the distinct impression that she finds the whole celebrity poledance HILARIOUS (hence our blossoming love for her). Our take is, go ahead and delight in the absurdity, but don’t ever give anyone an opportunity to take a bad picture of you, dear.

So: chin up, tits out, smiles on. But keep your opinions to yourself until the cameras go away. .

Also: cute skirt, but that top is all wrong for you, hon.  And the white pumps take it straight to trashy. Sorry, girl. Dropping truth bombs left and right; that’s us.

Yeah, I think she gets away with having no poise. It would look too forced from her.

  • Gatto Nero

Nice makeup, tho, and she combed her hair.
    Shoes need to burn.

  • Cambel

Well remember, she has seen it all go up and then crash and burn once before, so maybe she knows how thin the entire Celeb thing is.

    • Kitten Mittons

I had to look up who she was. I didn’t recognize her at all!

Not crazy about them with the outfit, but I do like those white pumps more than most others I’ve seen.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

My friend and I LOVED But I’m a Cheerleader! Great movie!

    • Lucía Gavello

Exactly, and I have to say -as a side note- bitch don’t age.

    • KinoEye

Nailed it. Natasha herself said the following: “When you go as deep into the belly of the beast as I went, there’s a whole other world going on and something like show business becomes the dumbest thing on planet Earth.”

  • @Biting Panda

I will always cheer for her. She’s had a bumpy road and I want her to be one who comes out on the other side, giving great advice to the young ones behind her. The outfit is a little Dominatrix Casual Friday for me, but that’s neither here nor there.

    • Yeah – every time she goes out looking healthy and happy she gets a pass from me! The facts that she is still endearing and is working are just bonuses.

    • MilaXX

I think it’s because of her history that she has such a what the heck attitude. I kinda love her for it but I still want her to look good.

    • littlemac8

What history? Fill me in. I’ve only seen her on OITNB where I loved her. That top only works on a long-torsoed flat-chested girl!

      • AnaRoW

Her career nearly bottomed out due to alcoholism and several arrests for DUI among other things. She also had a few health problems one of which resulted in open heart surgery. The only thing I’ve seen her in was Slums of Beverly Hills with Alan Arkin.

  • Imasewsure

I like the necklace. Not liking anything else here but she looks fun (and kind of like Drew Barrymore)

  • dschubba

The top’s all wrong, but I can see what she was going for with those Whitesnake pumps.

  • Sofia

awww. it’s difficult to not want more for the celebs we are fond of (e.g. meryl streep, christina hendricks) we want to protect them from bad looks!

  • sojourneryouth

The top could be better, but I like the skirt on her. The shoes, however, belong with the November Rain wedding dress, and nothing else.

  • As the girl who was all “White Pump Power!” a few months ago…I’m stepping down. Bought a pair a few weeks ago, been wearing them with black tights and hot orange tights and have not really been pleased. (Yes, hot orange. It matches my Camp Fire Girl scarf.)

  • Kent Roby

She’s so memorable (and done up so harshly) in OITNB that I had forgotten how cute and youthful she is in real life. She could slay the RC with the tiniest bit of help with styling and posing.

  • Carolyne

I love her so I’m going to have to give her a pass regardless of any fashion no-goes.

  • fursa_saida

My main response to this is a desire to watch But I’m A Cheerleader again.

  • MilaXX

If this was a dress I think I might like it. As a 2 piece it feels like GINYD. The white shoes are pure trailer park

  • elemspbee

  • Jacob Bowen

That top is cute and would be so much better with pants!

  • KinoEye

Love this lady. Must admit to a crush on Nicky in OITNB. But the pumps are bad. And I’m not a big fan of the rest of it. Head looks a-OK, though.

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

I was all ‘oh, leave her alone…she’s so cute…’ And then I saw the unforgivable; the shoes. Honey, those have got to go….

  • nannypoo

Here’s another pretty young celebrity I’ve never seen before, so I have no opinion about her behavior or personality, but she is the perfect person for the Pygmalion job. Her style choices clearly can only get better, so you have nothing to lose. I’d start with the tacky jewelery, even before the unflattering outfit and inappropriate shoes.

  • Jessica Freeman

The boxy shape of the top is not being kind to her figure. I miss her red hair. Her head looks great though.

  • msdamselfly

Also the hairstyling is out of date

  • Clash D

I almost flipped my monitor when I saw those shoes. WTH…if you’re gonna go all Spartacus – at least go all the way and wear gladiator sandals.

  • Dan_In_NYC

It’s like she and Laverne went to the same wig stylist. (Oh yes I did.)

  • Nicole Little

She looks so natural here though… the shots all read like in-between moments and it makes here more likable. Girl’s got no-game game.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She has personality all over the place, but open-mouth shots when you’re wearing heavy eye makeup always read ‘drunk or baked’ in photos. Never good.

  • I hate white shoes. There. I said it. Don’t care for this entire look, but it’s PaleyFest. Who cares?

  • E. D.

I actually like the top more than the skirt and shoes. Her hair and makeup do look good.

  • Dagney

When bad sillouettes, makeup, hair extensions, and shoes happen to good people…

  • I’ve loved her since But I’m a Cheerleader. I was delighted to see her again in Orange is the New Black. She’s awesome.
But yeah, I don’t love this top. A basic black t-shirt would have worked better, and let the skirt shine better because the detailing is really cute. Then straight up capital-F Fierce shoes.

  • prisma

I can’t hate on her. It’s nice to see her around.

  • quiltrx

I’ve always enjoyed her. Her hair and face look great, and she looks healthy. She’s talented, and I hope things go well for her.

  • Ginny

Dear Lindsay Lohan, This could be you in 5ish years if you would actually try to get it together – you could reemerge as a brassy, charming butterfly. (But no to the shoes.)

  • webslice33

i’m just so glad she’s able to get into the right track nowadays..

  • Michelle my belle

I need her and Orange is the New Black back in my life asap.

  • tereliz

Her head looks so good here I don’t even care about how stumpy the dress makes her look. I love it when she embraces the texture in her hair instead of trying to go pin straight. Great necklace, too.

  • melanie0866

It’s too many horizontal lines for someone that short. The crop top, the waist of the skirt, the trim on the skirt, all chop her up and make her appear shorter. And the bright white shoes are the final stumpifying touch.

  • Michelle Gennari

    Outfit is okay…shoes are uggo.

  • Judy_J

The top part of that outfit is OK….bottom half is hideous.

  • Hot mess.
