That’s a smidge short, young lady. Otherwise, carry on.

    • BayTampaBay

Dress needs to be four to six inches longer then all would be perfect.

      • MoHub

It’s a romper, not a dress, so the length is okay.

        • Kathy_Marlow

I read that later, but an inch couldn’t hurt. Especially since you can’t tell it’s a romper and it looks like you can see her underwear.

          • DailyDose

agree with Kathy, one inch longer actully would make the shape of her legs look much prettier.

      • Kent Roby

4-6 inches SHORTER, and Heidi would consider wearing it!

        • Fuchaforever

    • Sarah Jane

      Holy cow! I’ll say!

    • KC

Hahah, that’s exactly what I just said out loud.

  • @Biting Panda

Gorgeous. But a bit on the mature side of things. I’m not appalled or anything, but I would feel better if she were 16 or older, for this look.

    • Kent Roby

This makes me feel paternal; I want to throw her a pair of black tights and insist that she put them on immediately!

      • Rhonda Shore

It looks like she’s missing half of her outfit. Face looks fantastic though.

        • Mary Sinning Poole

…missing half her outfit? That’s what my father used to say when I wore a miniskirt back in the late sixties.

      • Lucía Gavello

That would make you quite a stylish dad!

  • Julia

A WAY too short quasi-version of the greatest dress Florence Welch ever wore? Questionable. But I generally approve.

    • Kate Andrews

The captions say it’s a romper, but it is still very short. I like the updo!

      • marlie

Hm. So is the shortness more acceptable since it’s a romper, or is it still too short, since it’s a romper pretending to be a skirt/dress?

        • charlotte

Well it is less dangerous when it comes to the accidental visibility of certain body parts, but in my opinion it is still too short because proportions.

          • Alicia

But more dangerous when it comes to the sitting down and slicing those body parts in half.

  • Sarah

Mini Gladiator Fierceness. It’s a little bit more severe than I think of for her, but I still like it. Good shoes for the look, too.

    • ballerinawithagun

Yes, gladiator was the first thing that sprang to my mind, especially with those sandals. One of Cleopatra’s very young hand maidens.

    • kbshee

I was thinking cocktail hostess as Caesar’s Palace but pretty much the same idea.

  • Allison Angier

Oooh this gives me an idea for a new sport: Ice Jousting!

    • Kitten Mittons

I would watch those Olympics in a heartbeat.

Two more inches on the skirt, and she would be perfection. That smile is just everything.

  • MightyMarshal

Belted and just above the knee, I’d be all about it. But at this length I’m not 100% into it. The proportions are off and SALLY DRAPER GET BACK IN THE HOUSE AND PUT SOME PANTS ON…oh. Sorry.

    • Darren Nesbitt

We all agree it’s too short but How close to the knee are we talking? Because When I think just above knee with belt, all I see is a futuristic Sally Draper. I think this really says Kiernan.

      • marlie

Yeah, I think this just needs a couple of inches, not half a foot. The dress that she was wearing in the Mad Men promos from a few days ago wasn’t much longer than this (although she was wearing tights with that).

  • alyce1213

Quite a bump up in ferocity for Miss Kiernan. It’s really striking and she loves wearing it.
I just wish it were a bit longer. Oh, our little girl is growing up before our very eyes, kittens.

    • Chickadeep

She’s been hanging out with that Taylor Swift girl (who is nothing but trouble) and getting all kinds of grown-up wardrobe ideas, apparently! tsk tsk

      • alyce1213

        Ruh roh.

    • sagecreek

I actually think you’ve put your finger on it. She’s going to spend the next few years negotiating the fashion DMZ between “Girl” and “Woman”, and I doubt this will be the last misstep. I still adore her.

  • barbarienne

I didn’t think it was possible to say this, but I think we’ve found a look Ms. Shipka can’t quite pull off.

And it’s entirely down to her youth. Not that she hasn’t got adult presence, but she’s just a smidge too fresh-faced for this look. Like Xena’s kid sister raiding her closet to find something nice to wear to the sophomore dance.

    • kimmeister

The only worse look I’ve ever seen on her was last year’s phallic-skirted dress. This is a swing and a miss. Those aren’t her hair, dress, or shoes.

  • hughman

I have not seen this Hunger Games movie.

  • Jane Donuts

Nope. Too short, too complicated for this young lady.

  • Capt. Renault

Wait — she’s not in this thing, is she? Am I going to have to watch this now?

  • crash1212

    Gladiator Romper Chic.

  • Meg

Between her and Emma Watson I’m suffering from severe eyebrow envy this week.

  • JauntyJohn

    Too short.
I do not favor Ms. Shipka, a 14 year old girl, in what is in essence a cocktail waitress uniform for Caesar’s Palace.
    Good shoe though.

    • tereliz

Dammit, I was just thinking, “well, it’s a romper, but it’s a chic little romper”, and now that you’ve put that into my head I just can’t unsee it.

  • Emily Smith

The fact that this is a romper totally makes it for me. It would be too short as a dress but as a romper? Adorable.

    • conniemd

Yeah, but I think a gladiator romper is an oxymoron.

  • Alicia

If she aspires to be a hostess at a Gladiator-themed casino, she’s right on the money. Kiernan sweetie, this is a rare misstep, and I know you can bounce back!

  • msdamselfly

    Beautiful. Just perfect

  • Anna

Hem’s a bit too short and the hair’s on the mature side, but she looks more like the star of the movie than you know, the ACTUAL star of the movie.

    • charlotte

To be fair, that is not very hard.

      • Anna

        Sad. But true!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Huh. I think this is the first time I’ve seen her look not-so-good (which is not to say bad). The place the skirt hits her and the triple ankle-strap shoes combined are not doing her (lovely) legs any favors. The hair is kind of a WTF. Kiernan definitely has it in her to work this dress, if the waist were just a bit lower and the skirt flared a touch.

  • decormaven

It seems a wee bit short, even for a jumper, but props to the stylist who picked out a pair of sensible heels for her. I’m not quite ready to see her tottering around on some skyscraper heels.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

I want to like this more than i do

  • Kelly

No! Wrong on so many counts. She’s too young for all of it, really, but especially the hair, which makes her look like a kid playing dress-up. The outfit is too short — makes her look unbalanced, and it doesn’t flatter her legs at all. The shoes could appear in the dictionary under “stumpify.” A rare misstep for Miss K, but a misstep it is, at least in my book. Girl — this is not a 14-year-old’s look.

    • Nancer

I am so with you, she is way to young for this look.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

Hair and make-up look fine, but I think the dress is just too mature for her.

  • boweryboy

I’d say it’s a bit grown up for her. And too short!

  • Beardslee

NO! Too short for all that heaviness. And I think she needs a pike to complete the look.

  • JR Labrador

Apparently her gays are binge watching Spartacus.

  • cheekypinky

Actually, if she had worn a pair of short, black motorcycle boots, it would have made the proportions work.

    • MilaXX

it’s shorts, hence the back shot

  • Kent Roby

With her being so young and wearing a romper, my mind immediately connects to Romper Room. With my magic mirror I see……too much of Kiernan’s legs!

  • luludexter

Hmmm not so flattering. I agree with the “too short” consensus – it makes her legs look big. It also doesn’t fit and it’s too mature a look overall.

  • jw_ny

Where else and who else could wear this? She’s young, fun, and stylish, with a strong history of ‘getting it right’. I don’t really like it, as much as I want to, but whatever…it’s kind of cool. Perhaps it needed black tights, different shoes, and not-Joan-of-Arc-hair, to veer it away from costume…idk.

    • Kent Roby

I also mentioned black tights earlier. Then again, I still consider Veronica from Heathers a style icon for today.

  • Judy_J

I agree with the “too short” consensus. The style of this tunic (I won’t call it a dress) is too mature for so young a girl. She needs to be wearing something lighter and more fresh, not so heavy.

    • MilaXX

      its shorts

  • conniemd

The hair is the only thing I like. The dress is too mature, short and heavy and the shoes way, way, too grown up.

  • Danielle

Normally I would hate how high her hair is but it just looks so effortlessly beautiful that I can’t even purse my lips. Attagirl.

  • B_C_J

This is too much dress for a very young woman. It is also a bit too short.

  • Alyssa_T_Robot

i feel like that lady in the last shot, staring adoringly at our pretty little roman gladiator.

  • kt

I need Lena to be wearing this and scowling, or for her to have it 6″ longer. I’m old, what can I say?

  • marlie

SO. FREAKING. ADORABLE. A teensy bit too short, but adorable nonetheless.

  • MK03

I’d like to think she walked past Shailene Woodley and said just loud enough for her to hear, “This is how you do it, bitch. BAM.”

  • sugarkane105

    “Where’d you get that skirt?”
    “I earned it.”
    “On what street corner?”

  • BlairBear

She is making that dress sing. it looks about a million times better on her than on the model

  • ojosazules

What’s going on with the back of this? Is this a short/jumpsuit type thing?
This look does not go with that fresh, young face.

    • MilaXX

      yes, its shorts

  • mjmiller77

I think the dress is adorable on her! Love the shoes. She tends to dress older than her years, but she can carry it off. however, I detest the hair – big hair is not back.. plz tell me it’s not.

  • MoHub

    Byzantine realness.

  • melanie0866

I hate the hair. Too mature. And yes, the skirt is too too short.

  • Nika E

    Entirely too short

  • Sabin

She is my daughter’s age. This is WAY too mature. Short, spiked, made-up. Fail.

  • Gatto Nero

I’d like the proportions better if this were a little longer. (Jumper? Romper? I don’t want to see a romper on anyone older than 3.) And I like the idea of swept-up hair with this look, but this style is a little stiff and old.
She’s beautiful, though, and I love that she takes risks.

  • Yolanda13

If this were two inches longer, I’d be snapping my fingers in a Z-formation screaming, “Baby Werq!” And a nod to JLaw’s hairdo.

  • judybrowni

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Kiernan!

Your mom should have vetoed the gladiator porn wear, as well as the stripper spikes.

  • appliquer

Like the shoes, but I think the dress and hair are too old for her.

  • MilaXX

This kid is good! I wish her hair was down, but I love everything else.

  • Carleenml

I am Spartacus, the Tween Years.

  • Monabel

    No, I am Spartacus!

  • quiltrx

Well, I didn’t complain that Russell Crowe’s was too short, so I guess I need to be consistent.
Those shoes are FIERCE. The whole look seems a little mature for her, but she looks really pretty and put-together, so I can live with the maturity.

  • Granny panties

I really like her hair, love volume! The outfit is pretty and interesting but I find it far too sexy.

  • Noah

She stole Florence Welch’s dress, but hey, I think it works.

  • suzq

How mini Roman soldier of Kiernan! I don’t mind the shortness at all, for some reason. Maybe I’m too mesmerized by the dress.

  • sagecreek

OMG Young Lady, go put on a longer skirt!

It’s official. I’ve turned into my mom.

  • nannypoo

This is a beautiful dress but it’s ridiculously short and just looks silly. And her hair is also ridiculous. She is fabulous and adorable so I will overlook this one indiscretion.

  • VicD

Get your BA before you go for the PhD.

  • Paula Pertile

Its super cute up until the shoes. Something … less hooker-y? OK. Gladiator sandals, but flat. Maybe.

  • Boop

March yourself upstairs right now, young lady! You will not leave the house like this. Too mature.

  • DominoEstella

I know strong brows are in, but I kinda want to tweeze hers a bit.

  • AnnaleighBelle

How in the world did they find a child actor who would look like the perfect mix of Don and Betty Draper, even as she grows up? Everytime I see her, I think, “She looks just like her mother (sorry Mrs. Shipka), no she looks just like her father (sorry, Mr. Shipka).

She’s such a composed little beauty.

  • Mothra

I feel like she could have done something more fun with her hair.

  • GeoDiva

It would be so much better, if you could actually tell its a romper and not a short mini dress.

  • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE her shoes and the fact that she’s wearing the PERFECT amount of makeup. From the front I’m not as scared about the length but when she turns around…girl you are JUST a Freshman in high school, slow your roll.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Yeah, no. Maybe if she were doing something with SCANDAL and she wanted to look like a gladiator. I don’t know what Divergent is (sounds like a laundry detergent) but maybe it’s all Helen of Troy or something that explains this foray into the fug for Miss Kiernan, who is usually so good at this.

  • formerlyAnon

She’s cute. Skirt should be longer. (ETA: Even though it’s a romper, not a skirt. It gives the impression of being a skirt.) Those shoes are enough grown up sexy for now.

  • KendraMR

I was just talking about how no one over the age of 10 should wear a romper (although 10 is kinda pushing it) when one of the cast members of “The Real housewives of Atlanta” wore one; however, I love it on Kiernan. Yes, it’s too short, but print keeps it from being hoochie.

  • Pennymac

I flashed back to my elementary school days when my momma would make me wear shorts under my skirts. I was always climbing monkey bars and trees and she wanted “munchkin land” covered. (Yes, that was a real phrase in my house) I love this look, but hate myself for the relief I felt when discovering it was a romper. Another inch and a half of fabric would be nice. JUST SAY NO TO ROMPERS, PEOPLE!

    • Tee

I had to sneak my shorts on. My mom made me wear slips under my dresses. She told me if I didn’t want people looking at my panties, I should stay off the monkey bars. Stay off the monkey bars Kiernan and you’ll be fine. You look adorable!

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

    Adorbs. Love it on her.

  • shazziz

short but she’s young~ I say werq it NOW while it’s age appropriate- five snaps.

  • Pablo

    God I hate those heels

  • BLauD

Maybe it’s the shoes, I don’t know, but the proportions look all off to me.

  •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

This child is pulling off a goddamned romper. BLESS HER.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, somehow she has figured out how to work this, which is amazing. I’m not loving her hair here.

  • CT14

    Bad hair. It’s aging her.

  • livesarah

    Ugh, no.

  • d4divine

  • Lexistential

I hate the shoe. It cuts off her leg at the ankle straps, and the delicacy of the heel doesn’t play well with the huge pleats of the romper. A wedge would add height, make her legs look super-long without choking her ankles, and would be a much more playful choice.

I half-hate the romper- agree it’s something she can work while this young, love that it’s gladiator chic, but the hair is too mature.

  • Sophie

Too short! But I like the gladiator feel. Her face and hair look great.

  • Tanya Wade

The world’s tiniest gladiator. She looks like Baby Kylie!

  • OffToSeeHim

I could have gone for something a skosh longer on such a young girl. It seems more stiff on her than on the model, and I really, really hate those shoes.

  • KinoEye

The hair is a little old for her, but I like it. It’s dramatic hair for a dramatic look. You go on with your adventurous fashionista self, Miss Kiernan. And I hope you get a line as epic as “YOU MAKE ME SICK!!” this next half-season of MM.

  • Sally Spannagle

Too short. Not a fan (may be the 1st time I said this about Ms Shipka)

  • Fuchaforever

Jeez, Kiernan is such a fashion PRO. This is such a cool and refreshing look! I like the length. Usually hate super short but for some reason this works for me and it does not look tacky at all. Maybe it’s the GLAM GLADIATOR thang she’s got going (also helps: her age, the accessories, hair, that it’s a romper- I’m sure you can tell its a romper as soon as she takes a step). Perfection! For me it’s a WERQ or an Attagirl!

  • Sunraya

Are they shorts? Otherwise, that is WAY too short.

  • enchanted216

    Yikes! She forgot her pants!

  • Suse

She looks so much like Betty and Don’s kid!

  • Notasaltine

You are not leaving the house with a skirt that short young lady! Other than that, she looks very nice.

  • LaSylphide

If this were anyone but Kiernan, I’d say she looks like Russell Crowe in Gladiator. And I’m feeling a bit engulfed by eyebrows these days.

  • AutumnInNY

Hair and make-up gorgeous, but dress way too short even for her youth. You just know Don Draper wouldn’t let her set foot out of the house like that.

    • somebody blonde

I thought that exact thing… and then scrolled down to the comments and realized it’s a romper.

  • giddypony

Am I the only one thinking some high school production of The Ten Commandments?

  • MannahattaMamma

NO ROMPERS IF YOU ARE OVER THE AGE OF FIVE. And even five is pushing it.

    • understateddiva

thank you. Are you going to romp today? Then do not wear a romper.

  • SierraDelta

Valentino and romper are an oxymoron.
