Gillian Jacobs in House of Holland at 2014 PaleyFest “Community” Event

Posted on March 27, 2014

Is PaleyFest like 3 months long or something? It sure feels like it this year.

Gillian-Jacobs-PaleyFest-2014-Communiyu-House-Holland-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (5)Cute look, though. Feels slightly on the fussy side for PaleyFest, but then again, it seems like the dress code there is highly variable. We’d probably recommend a little less hand jewelry, something less naked for the feet and something less fussy in a clutch. But the dress is really adorable and she looks great.

If you look close and long enough, you’ll see Kim Kardashian’s face (yea, that doesn’t make any sense but neither does this dress…or the reality that Kim is on the cover of Vogue).

      • kirkyo

I did that, but all that happened is I started thinking “Bam.”…”Bam!”…”BAM!!!”

        • Clash D

The dress is the pattern of comic book ‘POW’.

    • Glam Dixie

Definitely needs a different shoe but the dress is really cute and cute on her because one of those things does not always equal the other. Blue and orange are my high school colors, so it always gives me a bit of a pause to see a dress in that combo but this one I like.

      • barbarienne

I’m from Queens, New York. For a second I wondered if the Mets were thinking of getting a dance team for the 7th-inning stretch and this is their outfit.

        • Glam Dixie

Ha! You see the Mets and I see our majorettes out on the football field or whatever you call the girls that go in front of the marching band.

        • Bexxx

I’m all for the Mets getting a dance team. Maybe it would take some of the despair out of going to games.

        • conniemd

That’s why I hated the colors in the dress. It reminded me of the Mets. (I’m a Phillies phan).

          • Stella Zawistowski

DAMMIT! I loved the dress until you said that! As a phellow phan, I can no longer unsee.

            • barbarienne

That’s okay. Mets fans are completely unaware of this rivalry.

(Seriously. I moved to Philly 6 years ago and was all, “What? There’s a Phillies/Mets thing? We don’t hate the Phillies. We hate Atlanta!” I was thrilled when my new “hometown” team won the World Series that year.)

            • deliadee

I like the colors of this dress and the “zam/kapowie!” print, but I don’t care for her messy hair or shiny makeup. The shoes are OK, if a tad too bare. (I’m also a Mets fan and moved to Philly the year they won the World Series. I wasn’t happy when Philly won, but I still hated Atlanta more! Now I live just outside DC, and I still have unrequited love for the hapless Mets.)

      • MoHub

At least the shoes seem to be the right size.

      • demidaemon

I have to say that I prefer this version of blue and orange to the last one we got on Anne Hathaway.

    • Shug

I really like the dress. The print is adorable. Jewelry was good. The shoes…no.

      • leahpapa

Are they actually called “Nudist”? Because that’s actually almost tongue-in-cheek enough for me to like them.

        • Shug

I mean, they’re okay. I just generally dislike naked stilettos, mainly because my feet are shaped in such a way that wearing them is extremely painful for me. Pumps and wedges are great but those – ugh. Wore some high strappies walking for a Younkers event last Saturday and wanted to end it then and there. Woof.

          • leahpapa

Looking at her little baby toe and the blister sprouting there…oy. I agree. I sort of appreciated that the name of the shoes acknowledged their nakedness, but they also seem like the bare minimum for a shoe designer: a coupla straps, a buckle, and a heel. And you’re right – most of the time they hurt like crazy.

            • Shug

Yeah the name was definitely cute, and I agree about the lack of design involved. Though I tend to gravitate toward very simple, classic shapes/styles. The Uncles would be so underwhelmed by me :P

            • leahpapa

Oh, completely. At least once a day I see a post and literally wrinkle my nose, but then the commentary is glowing and the BKs go nuts for it. It is at those moments that I know, deep in my soul, that I have no taste, that my wardrobe is prosaic, and that we are all unknowably alone on this hot rock spinning through a cold universe. ;)

            • Shug

ha! They can say what they want but I do have a style that is distinctly me. Either that or I just live in fucking Nebraska and everyone else here shops at Kohl’s or the Buckle but me. lol/sob.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Navy and with orange Jem stars? I have a huge crush on this dress.

    • MannahattaMamma

Her feet make me want to weep. Actually, her feet are probably weeping too.

      • Ginger

I would weep if people were constantly taking close-up photos of my feet. I take very good care of them, but feet are feet. They’re gross. Period.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Maybe it’s the lighting, but her blush looks like it matches the spots in her dress, and that makes me want to slap her makeup gay.

    • Gatto Nero

Cute dress. Hair and makeup are fine.
      Hate the shoes.

    • marlie

Pretty girl, and cute dress. The shoes don’t bother me, and I like the clutch and the jewelry. That’s some bad DIY hair and makeup, though.

      • Jacob Bowen

That’s EXACTLY what I thought. I could deal with everything else, but her hair looks SO sloppy and the makeup seems to clash with the outfit.

    • Jessica Freeman

I think the naked shoe works here, but just barely. I love the dress on her.

    • Ediths_Head

Loved the dress… until I saw the zipper. And then, it was over.

      • PastryGoddess

Dear Designers, stop trying to make exposed zippers happen

    • Capt. Renault

This more than makes up for the total lack of Spring outside. Thanks, T-Lo!

    • Sarah

I loathe those shoes. Why? Because I’ve figured out what bugs me about them. Sometimes they look okay, so it’s not tortured toes, and sometimes they match fine, so it’s not that either. What it is, is, I think of them as a total copout. There is a WORLD of SHOES out there, and somebody had to have made ones that would have done something cool(er) for this look, and saved me from yet another “here’s what my foot looks like on a stick” shoe. I love her dress, also.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

LOL. “foot on a stick”. HAHAHA.

      • Constant Reader

I agree. A funkier shoe and better hair would have reduced the twee factor of this dress considerably.

    • KayeBlue

      She didn’t Britta it!

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Didn’t Hailee Steinfeld wear this a while back? It’s really cute, but it feels familiar.

    • Hysterectomypants

I think this is adorable and really suits her. Agree that the shoes are not right–I’m thinking that something a little chunkier and more substantial would have been a better choice.

    • JP

I like the dress. I actually also like the shoes. OK, they’re a Naked Shoe, but she doesn’t look like her feet are suffering in them the way most ladystars do.

      • J. Preposterice

Right? Is that what it looks like when a Naked Shoe fits? No desperate toe-grip? Just normal-looking feet? I think it might be.

    • jw_ny

I’m surprised that so many women wear these naked shoes knowing that there feet are going to be zoomed in on and photographed. Her feet aren’t bad, but still…feet take abuse and get blotchy, callused, dry spots, etc…pedicures and foot therapies can only do so much.

      • decormaven

Yes, if a shoe is this “naked,” the eye automatically goes to the foot. And whle there’s polish on the toes, there are evident issues with the feet. Totally expected after a winter of boots, socks, etc., but if you’re going to go to the effort of getting a designer frock and jewelry, get the luxe pedi, please.

    • butterflysunita

I must be a very bitter kitten today because everyone seems to like it and I’m kind of meh.

      • B_C_J

        I side with you.

    • Dagney

This look appears…..incomplete? The dress had some whimsy, but she doesn’t. The hair is cute but it’s very Point Break. She needs a shot of Pee Wee’s playhouse.

    • Qitkat

Cute dress, but I don’t love it.

So we need an unofficial poll. Do BKs hate the naked shoe or the Minnie Mouse clodhopper more?

I’ll vote for the naked shoe. More potential ankle breaks, almost no style, little toes often make a run for it, exposes bunions and other normal foot oddities, AND requires a perfect pedicure.

      • mlle

I’ll also vote for the naked shoe. The Minnie Mouse is prima facie ugly, so you know what you’re getting when you see one. The naked shoe has more potential upfront, and thus more potential to disappoint.

      • demidaemon

It’s a hard call. I’ll go with this answer (which was not available in the original poll choices). The shoe should go with the outfit, whatever that may be, trends be damned. Because we all know what is really pissing us off: the fact that stylists are lemmings.

      • Loramir

I’d say MM clodhoppers, on the basis that they’re ALWAYS ugly (IMHO), while naked shoes are usually badly executed but CAN on occasion be done right.

    • B_C_J

The fabric is too stiff making that skirt flare too much & transforming her legs into sticks. The hair is a bit limp but she is a very pretty young woman which is what I think is saving her & this look.

    • MilaXX

Agreed, cute dress, maybe a few minor tweaks could make it better.

    • suzq

It reminds me of the Smithsonian sun logo.

      • kimmeister

It reminds me of old Batman comic sound effects – BAM! POW!

        • wisenhar

This is clearly a Comic-con dress. Dress, that is not your venue? (DTNYV?)

          • Dagney

            Ha! Yes….

        • Molly

Reminds me of Roy Liechtenstein prints (same thing)

    • kt

great dress. I always find it hilarious when their face is no where near the same color as the rest of the body. That is a yellow face on a decidedly pink body

    • Akemi

I LOVE the dress, but would have gone with different shoes and a less sparkly clutch.
Also, she looks like she would rather be anywhere else. Maybe the shoes hurt?

    • Dagney

It just occurred to me that Katy Perry could really rock this dress into something….which made me think, that could be a good mantra for a ladystar who needs help rocking her look. WWKPD?

    • Heather

I want to own that dress. It’s so cute.

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

Not loving the dress, at least not on anyone over the age of 10 or who is not a cartoon character.

    • Trickytrisha

Nicely put together, which is more than we can say about a lot of ladystars lately. No idea who she is, but that’s the case for me with a lot of people from television who are featured here. No matter, I can appreciate the fashion and the remarks.

      • Tanagra

She’s hilarious on Community. I have so much goodwill toward her for that role that she could pretty much wear anything and get a pass from me.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

Very cute. Perfect for Paley. Low key yet classy, yet fun.

    • SierraDelta

Why is she STARING at us?

    • Imasewsure

I’m seeing this as a SJP dress…. might even prefer her ugly shoe collection shoes to the naked ones here (which bug me even when appropriate). Of course SJP would screw this one up with a million necklaces but still it seems like a good wheelhouse for her

    • formerlyAnon

Cute dress. Not loving the makeup. Looks to me like too much lip & cheek on a pale ground. Maybe that’s just the effect of camera flash, though.

    • mickiemonkey

This is Adele’s dress and no one’s shoes.

    • Fred Vaughn

This nude shoe shit is getting tired, ladies. The dress and the clutch are everything, though.

    • VanillaLuzon

From one RuPaul superfan to another… you look SICKENING, hunty! Now sissy that walk.

      • Chartreusite

LOVED her on RuPaul, hope she becomes a regular fixture like LaToya has on the judging panel.

    • FridaStaire

Fabulous dress, sad shoes and poor cold little legs.

    • littlestars

So cute. I want this dress! I don’t know who she is, but she looks really fun and pretty. And naked shoes aren’t so bad when they actually fit…they look fine here.

    • Fuchaforever

Love the dress! Not so into the close up of her feet :/

    • Cate

      She’s such a cutie pie.

    • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

Isn’t the print on that dress the logo for “The Smithsonian Channel?” Weird…

      • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

        Enh..close…

    • Sam Smith

Really like the print, the colors, an the shape of the dress. But seems a bit to stiff.
