Everyone Wants to Be: Jennifer Connelly in Lanvin at the “Noah” Berlin Premiere

Posted on March 14, 2014

Interesting. She wore a really odd, totally focus-pulling gown the other day with no jewelry at all and very underdone hair and makeup. We hated the look. We don’t know if this is a course correction away from that or it represents some sort of style plan, but she’s doing the exact opposite here:

Jennifer Connelly attends the premiere of ‘Noah’ in Berlin, Germany, in a Lanvin dress.

VERY polished hair and face, some bits and dots of noticeable jewelry – and the plainest gown you ever did see. Result? Gorgeous. Let’s call this a lesson, Jen. This is your look: classic style to the point of almost being boring or too simple, with all the focus pulled up to your face, which is your very best asset, after all.

And you can tell she’s totally feeling it. She looked like she was facing a firing squad in that Givenchy, but the body language doesn’t lie. “I am feeling YUMMY at the moment, darlings!”

Jennifer Connelly’s body apparently sounds nothing like Jennifer Connelly when it speaks, but you get the point. It’s a total BE ME moment.

I imagine that if Lucy from Charlie Brown grew up to be an actress this is how she would look.

    • Justine

hahaha that is definitely Lucy’s hair!

      • Kent Roby

I keep seeing Snow White hair!

    • Ronald Charles Epstein

If Peanuts’ Lucy looked like that Charlie Brown would really need a psychiatrist.

  • RussellH88

She reminds me of the babe.

    • What babe?

      • The babe with the power

        • barbarienne

          The power of voodoo!

ETA: okay, I skipped a line, so:

          What power?

          • Constant Reader

          • Laura Abrahamsen

            You do!

          • SewingSiren

            Do what?

          • Sarah

OMG I LOVE YOU GUYS. Also: Earworm for the next MONTH thanks.

          • Remind me of the babe!

          • The power of voodoo 🙂

          • sojourneryouth

            Dance magic! 😀

    • KateShouldBeWorking

      What babe?

      • ChaquitaPhilly

        The babe with the power…

    • Do “As the World Falls Down” next!

      • RussellH88

There’s such a sad love deep in your eyes.

        • You charmer! You’re making me blush “a kind of pale jewel, open and closed”

          • fursa_saida

I’ll place the sky within your eyes. *eyebrow wiggles*

I too wear velvet gowns when I go to milk the cows in the barn.

  • charlotte

Demi Moore’s little sister is back!

  • Samantha Klein

And I do, desperately want to be her. Love love love.

  • gayle

    Simply elegant and gorgeous.

  • marlie

Just. Gorgeous. Her hair and makeup made me gasp. And even though it’s a simple dress, it’s still more successful than Emma’s because there are still some interesting elements.

    • alyce1213

      And velvet.

    • filmcricket

It fits her better, too. Emma’s dress looked like a silk sack.

  • teensmom99

Not in love with what that neckline/sleeve style does for her upper body. To me it detracts from the glamour.

  • @Biting Panda

Shades of Elizabeth Taylor. Had her jewels been more ostentatious, it would have been a “realness” moment.

  • Janet B

    Wow. Gorgeous.

  • TonyGo

Laura Petrie hasn’t aged a bit.

  • msdamselfly

    cant get behind that hairdo

  • hughman

    “Mirror, mirror, on the wall…”

  • KateShouldBeWorking

If I looked like that, I’d be feelin’ it, too.

  • MilaXX

total Be Me and she deserves it. Great job.

  • In_Stitches

Loved her in Wednesday’s Givenchy. This…the whole thing just feels like Dita cos-play. I mean, it is gorgeous, but the styling doesn’t suit her in my eye.

  • Cortney Dean

She looks like Lady Mary brought into current times. Which I LOVE.

  • Yeah…when you’re Jennifer Connelly, your main accessory is that you have the beautiful face and skin of Jennifer Connelly. The black velvet accentuates those points very nicely.

    • And eyes. Don’t forget those beautiful eyes!

  • MRC210

The shorter ‘do suits her perfectly. She should keep it at this length. She looks stunning.

  • shirab

Please please please can she play an American cousin on Downton? She looks like Lady Cora’s kin. And I’d love to see her in some Lady Mary-esque outfits.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

OK, she can be related to Lady Cora – BUT NO CRAZY FACE!!!

    • Vanessa Reyes

I was thinking the same thing! Would love to see her play the american cousin.

  • Danielle

  • Call me Bee

I love this. Elegant and understated, yet on her it’s almost youthful. Must be the darling shoes.

  • LipstickForPigs

It’s a bit Dita, and that totally works for her. Really lovely.

    • Jessica Goldstein

      Just what I was thinking.

    • kimmeister

The facial expression in the first shot is TOTALLY Dita, just less smug.

  • mjude

  • Jessica Goldstein

The dress is plain, but the lines are interesting and it flatters her enviable figure immensely. Hair and makeup are also fabulous. This is definitely her look.

  • Chickadeep

This whole look is making me think we need to sign her up for the next season of Downton Abbey—perhaps as Lady Mary’s finishing school frienemy? or Lord Whatshisface’s jilted bride to be?—so they can face off looking severe and pale and haughtily perfect in their soignee gowns and 1920s bitchface.

  • Bexxx

I’m so glad strong brows are in right now. You werk that brow, girl.

    • Trickytrisha

I’m just the opposite… caterpillar brows have always been a pet peeve.

    • Jacob Bowen

SO agree! I don’t like when they look extremely fake, but a strong, natural brow is SO face defining!

  • Susan Velazquez

The lighting is so harsh on her though. She looks too pale in some shots. I do love the retro 40s vibe this is giving me.

  • Alyssa

This is truly fabulous! Although, I’m wishing for a necklace. I’m very into necklaces right now apparently, because I keep having that critique!

  • webslice33

    she’s really fabulous

  • alyce1213

Gorgeous from head to toe. I would normally wince at a wide ankle strap shoe with a gown, but a) these are art, b) the dress is so simple, and c) velvet can stand up to a prominent shoe, anything too delicate would be wimpy and disappear.
I have a love for good velvet that borders on crazy. Whenever I wear it, I feel like I look good, I feel like myself, I feel Be Me — just like Jen!

    • filmcricket

I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable.

      • alyce1213

        It isn’t? . . .

  • littlestars

Something might be wrong with me, but I totally preferred the other look. She’s obviously gorgeous no matter what, but the dress is kind of boring and I really , really dislike her hair.

  • random_poster

Wow. It’s total night and day to the previous premiere get-up. Well done Team Jennifer. Keep this one going!

  • Camille Chapman

  • Everyone wants to be Jennifer Connelly, period. Full stop. Well, maybe just me. The makeup I’d wear with those green eyes, the things I’d do to Paul Bettany!

  • KinoEye

You could get lost in those eyes. I wish this was rendered in a fabric other than satin, but this type of look is definitely hers.

    • alyce1213

My dear fellow kitten, it’s velvet. It’s lined in satin, which she’s clearly stepping on in pic #4. xo

      • KinoEye

Agggh, I meant to type velvet! My brain had already gone home for the day, and I suppose it used the satin lining to describe the whole dress. Thank you doll!

  • Shawn EH

I dunno, the Do Me aspect is pretty prevalent, too! Movie star charisma since she was a tween!

  • decormaven

There you go- full stop gorgeous.

  • Blue

It’s a little too Dita Von Teese for me. But she looks beautiful.

  • Dreamwr8tr

Beautiful but her foundation looks slightly too pale for her face. Could be my monitor, though.

  • VELVET! YAAAAY! Super dress…minimal AND interesting!

  • KT

I aggressively hate the hair – it’s so aging and stuffy looking. Like a Republican congressman’s wife, ugh. The dress and face are nice, and she does look very soignee, but I’m a bit bored by this whole look. I kind of enjoyed seeing her let her hair out and put on something weird for once – even though she looked like a Candyland character come to life.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

That’s some serious Dita von Teese drag and I love it.

  • Krysta

That is, for once, a cool backdrop.

  • Granny panties

Stunning!! Beautiful velvet dress. I’ve always loved her. Mr grannypanties refers to my ‘twin’ in career opportunities. (We are simalar age, but im closer to the size she was back then).
I have simalar colouring, but can’t say my face is That beautiful.

  • rebeemoon

Love the shape of those shoes.

  • cider12

I never noticed it before, but she looks like a female Daniel Day Lewis. So elegant!

  • cocohall

Does Dita Von Teese have a little sister? The sister with the “athletic build?” She looks great.

I will say, that despite the fact that they are her trademark, does anyone else wish she would shape her brows just the tiniest bit? They are so straight that I always feel like someone has taken a sharpie to her face and the pointy van Dyke beard is just seconds away.

  • Belle239

Total bed head hair…..ugh. The rest is gorgeous.

  • SophieB210

I have never wanted to be her nor have I ever understood my boyfriends who wanted to do her. We did not last, those gents and I.

  • Therese Bohn

Totally giving me an Elinor Donahue vibe here! Must be the hair. Great Gown.

  • CT14

    I hate the hair.

  • quiltrx

I’ve said before, I’ve always thought she was incredibly beautiful. If I could be transformed into anyone’s appearance, she is definitely on my short list.
My hubby loves her too. This is a great, polished look for her!

  • Sly

Have you seen Jennifer Connelly in Balenciaga when Nicolas Ghesquiere was there? She rocks it’s and looks absolutely confident, beautiful, radiant, etc… in it. And those are the most complicated species of clothing one could ever wear.

  • Annistella

“You have no power over me” *echo* power over me, power over me.

  • Gatto Nero

Really not loving the retro hair.

  • Esz

It’s like she got ready at Dita’s house. Love the look 🙂

  • Corsetmaker

I think it’s a lovely look but I don’t think it’s quite her. Or rather the hair isn’t. that very groomed retro hair and to some extent the make-up doesn’t work with her natural brows. I like her brows, I like the look, but I don’t like them together, Dress is great though.

  • EEKstl

  • sagecreek

Ugh, I hate the Paula Prentiss hair.

  • LaSylphide

I like everything except the lacquered hair: unflattering style and too much hairspray.

  • jabes

To whom do I have to sell my soul to get skin like that on my legs? (Or is there a make-up/powder routine that these pale ladies use to get that porcelain look?)

  • anotherkate

Maybe it’s the “Berlin” in the background, but she looks like the brunette version of Diane Kruger here, doesn’t she? They could play sisters (or Jennifer could be the “evil” twin, never mind that I HATE the trope of making blondes good girls and brunettes evil.)

  • guest2visits

I almost forgot how beautiful black velvet could be….she looks gorgeous.

  • melanie0866

Beautiful, except I think the hair is very aging.

  • Diane Bellora

She looks great, except the dress is too long. She’s standing on the bottom of the dress in the fourth photograph.

  • I love her. So stunning. I have to agree with the rest that the hair is kind of severe.

  • NBG

Dress is fine but it needs more interesting jewelry.
