Emma Watson in Wes Gordon at the “Noah” Berlin Premiere

Posted on March 14, 2014

The hair and face are magazine cover-ready and the dress looks fabulously elegant from the back, but…

Emma Watson attends the premiere of “Noah” in Berlin, Germany in a Wes Gordon navy and and black chiffon gown accessorized with Christian Louboutin shoes, Ana Khouri earrings, and Repossi rings.

It’s a bit of a big ol’ nothing from the front. We’re all for a good “walking away” dress, but she must’ve had to spend the night with her back to everyone, talking over her shoulder at them.

Killer heels, though.

    • Noah

“Killer shoes” in the sense that those shoes are “monstrously large” on her.

      • Beardslee

and cruelly hard to walk in

      • SugarSnap108

And could be used for homicide. (Single White Female.)

      • DominoEstella

yes, she’s a tiny thing. Those shoes must be horrible to walk in.

    • @Biting Panda

      DRAMA!! I love it.

    • Adrianna Grężak

The dress and shoes look are big, so she kind of looks like she’s playing dress up in Mom’s closet

      • cocohall

If your mom happens to be Angelina Jolie!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I am mostly digging this… she looks really grown and sexy – it’s the shoes working here for sure. The dress is definitely nothing special – I really don’t like just tying up the back with a bow – seems lazy.? like an afterthought to make sure the front fit better. I dislike that kind of hairstyle generally too…but for some reason she’s pulling it off.

    • Carrie

It’s so sad and wrinkled looking from the front. The back though, really is fabulous.

    • kaybee

This is like a baby Angelina look…She looks great, but definitely a mini “pulling a Jolie” IMO

    • WendyD

Testing the theory she could wear a sack and still look good.

      • formerlyAnon

        Testing AND confirming.

    • kalisa

Didn’t she just have a pixie cut like…yesterday?

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I’m pretty sure that was 2 years ago! I’m not saying this is definitely all her own hair, but it’s definitely had time to grow a lot.

    • CT14

Her hair is a helmet. Should have had it up or used less product.

Too wrinkly in front, but she’s young enough to walk around backwards without getting a kink in her neck.

    • Danielle

Whatever, it’s Emma Watson. Automatic pass from me.

    • marlie

I like it, but the dress is a little too simple from the front (AND from the back, IMO). Her hair and makeup are gorgeous, and I don’t dislike the shape of the dress, so it gets an “s’alright” from me. And her shoes are too big.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Who designed that poster and do they still have a job? That NOAH NOAH NOAH NOAH NOAH NOAH thing looks terrible . She looks very pretty, even if the dress is a bit of a sack.

      • Aidan B

Yup, I feel like the poster is yelling at me.

        • sagecreek

HOW LONG CAN YOU TREAD WATER?

(How many people here are old enough to get that?)

          • majorbedhead

            *raises hand*

          • decormaven

            “waves cane”

          • StellaZafella

            Mr Cosby would hug you…

      • Jecca2244

That is literally the world’s worst step and repeat. makes me dizzy.

      • Laura Renee

Lol, thank you for pointing that out. I wonder if the deranged designer giggled and celebrated his triumph of depicting A SEA FULL OF NOAH.

      • decormaven

If the poster is a harbinger of things to come in the film, I don’t foresee anything too imaginative. That’s not design, it’s Xerox.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I’ve seen a trailer. Actually, it is very *imaginative* if one thinks one is seeing something connected to the Bible story. All those Celts running around hearing the word of the lord.

    • Mrs. Julien

Killer heels in that I bet the did kill her feet.

    • Jessica Freeman

A bit of a shiny belt instead of a piece of black string would have been a major improvement.

      • ampg

Yes, it really would take very little to allow the front view to compete with the back.

    • Nancer

      She is just so beautiful.

    • Nancer

Add some killer hoop or long earrings and this would have bee fabulous. That would have added to the visual interest of an otherwise blank palette (the dress from the front) and brought all of the attention to her face, where it belongs.

    • deelup

I have a feeling this looked simple and elegant in person, while it looks like a matte trash bag in photos.

    • B_C_J

Aside from the wrinkles, I think she looks chic, elegant & understated. This young woman is a fashion goddess.

    • kmk05

I really don’t like the hair (too gelled) and makeup (a bit tired). Also, that dress is really wrinkly in the front, which makes it worse. If it were smooth and maybe in a slightly heavier fabric, it might work.

    • SewingSiren

The belt looks like an add on. The dress would hang more elegantly without it.

    • Sobaika

It’s a bit overly mature and funeral-esque from the front. Love the back and her head.

    • LipstickForPigs

      I just love her.

    • halleygee

The photo from the waist up is stunning. That bow is way too long for me to like the back but it is better than the front.

    • Jacob Bowen

Her head looks FANTASTIC (the sides are a BIT over gelled but not too bad) and that back is killer, but GTNTFYD (Girl that’s not the front of your dress).

    • msdamselfly

I think her makeup and hair makes her look too severe, very Kristen Stewart. And the dress is so wrinkled.

    • siriuslover

I love the navy lining. It give the dress some interest. I love her styling. Hair is gorgeous.

    • MilaXX

It’s also a ball of wrinkles. I don’t mind the simplicity of the dress but you can’t wear a simple dress like that unless it’s perfect.

    • Alyssa

While I love a good walking-away dress, this is not one. Keep the hair/makeup, find a better dress.

    • Danielle

The hair could have been saved by pulling it into a low ponytail. It’s amazing how beautiful the back of that dress is compared to how blech the front is. Someone along the line should have told them to keep the back but scrap the front and try again.

    • Lilak

Earrings with a little more interest would have helped nudge the gown out of boudoir territory. Points for avoiding the still-too-popular pale lip, though.

(Re film: Check the feature on Aronofsky in this week’s New Yorker. I might be willing to see the film just to hear what he got out of Nick Nolte as the voice of a big ol’ CGI character.)

    • Missy

If the hair didn’t look sort of greasy from the front, I think I’d dig this a lot more.

    • rosie5215

Did she pull the dress out from under her bed?

    • Monabel

How about a necklace with a stunning pendant? Boring dress could be good backdrop.

      • Shawn EH

Nothing a strand of diamonds wouldn’t fix, I’m thinking.

    • jw_ny

So pretty from behind…so Angelina Jolie from the front.

    • OffToSeeHim

I love her. She’s all giving lady-star face and looking so sophisticated, and then she runs off the platform with that big smile on her face, and I just want to give her a big hug. Fuck the haters girl, stay happy! :)

    • ChristyDee1

      Could jewelry have saved this?

      • Shawn EH

Like a big 20s necklace or something like what J-Law wore to the Oscars?

        • Clash D

Nope. I’d say a statement cuff works better.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s underachieving, maybe, but I like it anyway. Probably just because she’s young and pretty and movie star slim without looking gaunt, anywhere, and the uber-simple lets me focus on all of that.

    • Terri Ellis

I have seen so many stars in heels that look too big. It makes me ask, are we supposed to wear heels that way? Is that why I have issues with heels rubbing at the base of my Achiles? Because I’m wearing too small a size? Or are these stylists just lazy and force too big shoes on their clients?

      • Hermione

I hear you. But do you think they can really walk in those shoes, especially if they are too big? I don’t watch generally watch red carpet shows but even on the ones I have seen I never actually see these stars taking steps in these shoes. If the shoes have ankle straps, they probably would stay on and walking would be theoretically possible. But pumps like these? Seriously, do these stars walk off camera and shed the heels and get into their Birkenstocks, or Clarks? No, I really would like to know!!

      • Susan Velazquez

From what I know, a surprising amount of a star’s wardrobe is actually borrowed, especially for events. Stylists can wheedle designer clothing from people but not everything is available in the correct size so they have to make do with what they have since the name is so important. So I assume for a step and repeat, they wear the shoes for the brand name and secretly change later if possible.

    • Errick Loyola

That shot of her back looks like it is straight out of a fashion editorial. She’s flawless.

    • webslice33

      she looks elegant..

    • decormaven

She’s making this work solely through her own power. That’s some flimsy-looking material with a craft store ribbon belt. Props to her for killing it with her beautiful style.

    • alyce1213

I like it, she’s wearing it well, but I’d add an unusual bracelet.
I look forward to seeing this girl for years to come on the red carpet. She’s already a champ in her age category and I’m betting it’ll only get better.
Emma’s been my son’s movie girlfriend for some time now — I approve. He has good taste.

    • Aunty_Stephy

Is it wrong that I love it? There’s just something striking in its simplicity. Especially with that hair and makeup. And the lining? To die for. (Which the shoes appear to be attempting to help her out with)

    • E. Sevilla

she’s channeling old testament with a sack dress omg i love it

    • majorbedhead

The hair is giving her a KStew look, which is unfortunate, but she makes up for it with that killer smile.

The dress is just meh. However, she’s Hermione, so she gets a pass.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

The front is underwhelming, and it looks rumpled, as if it was one of those PR challenges where the designer became obsessed with one element in the dress and forgot about the rest of it.

    • Ashleigh

ME LIKEY – not sure why. She looks good

    • JauntyJohn

I think the simplicity up front is very strategic. This look is all about FACE. Bam!
The hair slicked back, the excellent make-up (strong lip but not overmuch)… the whole front is about highlighting that face, and girl is giving it to us.

      • Clash D

I think the idea is valid (with Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar speech stuck in my head) – but the execution of this idea hit some stumbling blocks. IMHO, the dress material is too crinkle-ly for such a thin little potato sack string and her hair would have benefitted from some hairspray to keep it in place.

    • Akemi

I actually like the dress, but not loving her hair, mostly because it isn’t staying in place.

    • suzq

What (or who) does a starlet have to do around here for clothes steamer, people?

    • Sunraya

I don’t understand why I can get shoes that fit and millionaires can’t. And hey – at least she doesn’t look as snippy as she usually does. That’s something.

      • Imasewsure

Yours aren’t free and supplied by designers in cahoots with stylists

    • Imasewsure

Wait til Angie sees that Emma took her summer frock!!

    • AEditor

The dress has drama in the back, and her face has drama in the front. Win-win, I say. And, she looks confident in it, much like Jennifer Connelly in her black dress. Lovely.

    • KinoEye

Wow. The front is so incredibly disappointing, I actually hung my head.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

It’s a brides maid dress in BLACK!

    • quiltrx

It’s kind of a sad sack from the front, isn’t it?

    • http://sharialbert.com shazziz

DID NO ONE STEAM THIS DRESS BEFORE SHE PUT IT ON?????? #stylefail

    • Gatto Nero

She seems to favor these plain, dark gowns with one dramatic element. The deep armholes are the only interesting part from the front.
The shoes are at least a size too big.
The hair looks good in the first shot but then seems kinda lank and stiff in the others. Good for a fashion shoot, maybe, where it can be adjusted every second. But not great in action.

    • MaggieMae

Has she ever showed up, pulling a Jolie? I don’t always like what she wears, but I appreciate that she considers herself a fashionista, takes risks, and puts in the effort. I get a distinct “I’m a professional and expect you to take me seriously” vibe from her RC appearances.

    • murt

I like this – normally her looks are way too overstyled. Wish it wasn’t as wrinkled though. Love the makeup and hair.

    • guest2visits

I still like it on her, even with the wrinkles. And maybe the hair would look more interesting & young in a fishtail braid.
I also thought her sleek grey Oscar gown was one of the best of the night.

    • LambeeBaby

Her face looks beautiful. The dress looks like a cheap Halloween costume from the front.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Man, I miss her pixie cut–would have elevated this whole look.
