Chris Evans in Etro at the “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” London Premiere

Posted on March 21, 2014

Let’s start the day off with a beard and a smile, shall we?

Chris Evans attends the UK Film Premiere of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in London, England in an Etro wool pinstripe suit paired with a white shirt, a paisley tie, and Kurt Geiger Collection shoes.

Well. Sort of a smile. For an actor, he’s not very good at faking it.

Still, he looks good. It’s hard to screw up a black pinstriped suit. The tie’s a little too thin, though.

He kinda looks like he’s dying his eyebrows and beard. Whenever we see a man whose hair, beard, and brows are all exactly the same color, with no variation in it, we tend to think he’s been strolling down the Clairol aisle.

Captain America!! Brought to you by Just For Men.

      • jilly_d

Totally agree. I think it’s the smarmy expression.

      • imspinningaround

I promise you he has charisma for days in Not Another Teen Movie.

      • SugarSnap108

Tall, dark and handsome is everything I want. Yet he does nothing for me, either. I think it’s the trying-to-smile-but-can’t-quite-manage-it thing.

      • MartyBellerMask

Join the club, dear. I got nothing.

      • formerlyAnon

I dunno. Does nothing for me because he’s not my type and doesn’t – at least in photos – have that special something that draws you in irrespective of appearance. So, at least for me, lack of charisma works – but sooo many disagree with us!

      • jw_ny

His brother Scott is more my type…gives me “the feels” ;) Chris should by my usual standards…but zip now.

I made a similar comment about the “Just For Men” a few days ago…his use of it adds to his non-appeal, although when he had short hair and no beard, he was more rugged…never minded checking him out then. ;)

      • Danielle

This Chris does nothing for me, but the elder Hemsworth… hoo boy.

      • Kathy

I don’t know. When somebody here said he is painfully shy and has sensitivity to light, I found a place for him in the area where my heart should be (in the words of Internationalmodel).

        • gabbilevy

My heart just aches every time I see photos of him looking so uncomfortable on the RC ever since I learned that.

        • @Biting Panda

Well, that’s sweet. I may feel bad for calling him a grumpy asshole a few posts back.

          • Kathy

lol. I was “thinking” it a few posts back.

        • SugarSnap108

Awww, now I feel bad, and might possibly love him.

        • fursa_saida

I always get the warm fuzzies if he’s talking about anxiety, too.

      • Anna

Doesn’t do it for me either, especially from what I’ve seen during this Winter Solider poledance. Only time I’ve ever gotten the feels from him is his Gucci Guilty ads with Evan Rachel Wood. Think I’ll go look at those now…

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Not even in his Gucci ads?

        • @Biting Panda

Not even then. He’s cute when he’s clean cut (not my normal preference) but still only in a frat dude kind of way.

        • Jacob Bowen

          YESSSS

      • Katie Wolf

You should hear him on the “Doug Loves Movies” podcast. He never did anything for me either, but he is completely hilarious and bombastic and I really, really like him now!

        • Dandesun

It’s the sense of humor that got me. That combined with a real thoughtfulness… he just works for me. The Fantastic Four was on last night and I watched it marveling at what a difference there is between his Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers. I mean, there SHOULD be a huge difference but I don’t even see any familiar tics that the two share.

      • kmk05

He does nothing for me except when he’s acting. As someone else (specifically Cap or Jack Jensen from the Losers), I’m all over him

        • tereliz

Ditto on the Losers. It’s really a terrible movie (I love terrible movies) but he’s great in it.

      • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

I dunno…he doesn’t do much for me either. Granted, he is gorgeous, no doubt, but there’s no heart pumping or lust building. Personal thing, don’t send me hate email or say I don’t appreciate a hunky guy. I do. In these shots, and in some others, he looks like he’s incredibly myopic. Look at him…he has that sort of far away squinchy gaze people get when they can’t see but have to navigate life. Or maybe he’s going commando and is just so overwhelmed at his own daring…who knows…

      • Catiline

It’s funny because I am the opposite. Beefy blond dudes normally do nothing for me (I would trample Chris Hemsworth to get to Mark Ruffalo, if that gives you any indication of how I roll) but Evans really, really does.

        • fursa_saida

I am imagining this and it’s fucking hilarious.

      • http://thatswhatthemoneyisfor.wordpress.com/ lizlemonglasses

The whole look is giving off a Scott Disick vibe. Which, I assume, is not what he was going for.

      • lundibleu

I go hot and cold on him – sometimes he just hits all the right spots, others meh. I like him here, but think he looks better with stubble rather than beard. Also, I want his shoes. And am pleased that that’s now three hot men in well fitted suits.

      • fursa_saida

He improves a great deal when he’s talking, for me. He’s unusually thoughtful and something about the animation of his face helps. Also, if his Boston accent comes out at all I get a rush of hometown affection. But just standing there he’s sort of…boringly hot? Like, he ticks so many of the usual, conventional boxes that he stops looking like a person and starts looking like someone designed by committee. Even at best, though, I never get all that excited over him.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Lovely fit on his suit. I agree that the tie is a little narrow but the paisley pattern is beautiful.

      • barbarienne

And look at his perfect hems! If nothing else, he knows to go to a good tailor.

      • decormaven

        And the fabric- lovely drape.

    • Capt. Renault

Nevermind the Clairol aisle, he should pick up some Gold Bond, so he doesn’t need his hands in his pockets.

    • Lily

He’s dyed his hair back from his Captain America blond for the 1:30 Train filming, but I’m not sure why he’s keeping it up. He’s gotta go back to blond for Avenger 2 soon.
I love that suit on him, but you’re right about the tie being too thin.

    • marlie

Attaboy, Cap’n! I really like the suit and tie together.

ETA: And what a difference a more relaxed face makes, too!

    • Victoria Anzalone

I MUST find that paisley tie for my husband.

    • SugarSnap108

It looks like the jacket is a smidge tight in the shoulders/upper arms. But yay for properly tailored pants!

    • MartyBellerMask

He ditched the vest, the suit is well tailored and grooming is impeccable. So major props for the effort. But… just not working for me. Loosen up, have some fun.
Of course, I am not the target audience for this movie, so maybe the fangurls and fanboys are digging it?

    • CPK1

that is a thin tie. What’s up with that? (Also, strolling down the Clairol aisle if my new favorite expression)

    • CT14

      Handses in pocketses!

Brown shoes with a black suit bother me. Even if they do pick up colors from his gorgeous-if-too-thin tie.

I’m not loving the beard. But properly tailored pants? Who knew they were so damn important.

Nitpicks. That’s all I’ve got. Looking good, Cap.

      • MilaXX

I’m getting charcoal grey/off black as the suit color. Not a true black.

    • FrigidDiva

I’m really not a fan of him with the beard, it just doesn’t look right on him. I still think he looks like Scott Disick (sp), just drape a Kardashian on his arm.

      • Imasewsure

That is why I keep seeing him as swarmy and douch-y… The Disick is strong with this one! Hopefully it’s just temporary!

        • FrigidDiva

It gives me a serious sad, because I don’t think he’s like that at all. He really needs to ditch the beard ASAP.

    • Danielle

A PAISLEY TIE I AM FILLED WITH GLEE

    • formerlyAnon

A trimmed beard! A shaved neck! They must have lifted the red carpet prohibition on such grooming!

Tie needs to be wider, yes. But at least it’s snugged all the way up to his collar.

      • colleenjanel

Amen! He really doesn’t do much for me, but I’m so tickled to see well-groomed facial hair! See boys, it CAN be done!

        • Leah Elzinga

I am all for the return of facial hair on men, but dudes seem to think that ANY beard is a good beard. Annnnnnnnd no. A full, neatly trimmed beard is a good beard, not that patchy, uneven, often too long crap that seems to be gaining popularity with the boys.

    • msgypsy

Sorry, Chris, that is one unfortunate beard

    • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

Once again, from the neck down yes. And I agree, he should lay off the Grecian Formula.

    • MartyBellerMask

I think I might like him casual style. We need a Chris Evans Man on the Street post. Preferably in summer.

    • kmk05

WHY HELLO THERE. You can get your scruff on me anytime.

    • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

In the last shot, WTH is that blue print thing hanging out? He’s got that “Yes, I am a truly gorgeous confection, aren’t I ?” Look..

    • Jessica Freeman

Love the suit, hate the tie.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

      Captain America’s Evil (fun) Twin.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      I think he looks great.

    • Qitkat

In that second shot, he has that ‘deer in the headlights’ uncomfortable demeanor occasionally associated with men about to walk down the aisle. Or, as someone else said, he’s myopic and shy. Nevertheless, that’s a beautiful suit and tie. I’ll take too narrow paisley over boring any day. Nice grooming. And I haven’t the vaguest idea who he is, lol.

    • MilaXX

I like his look here. Considering some of the trainwreck male celebs we see so often I’m not going to complain over tie width. Facial expressions are a tiny bit relaxed. I guess he’s trying.

    • Eric Stott

S’okay, but even the beard lover in me finds him boring.

    • Susan Velazquez

I give him points for trying a paisley tie. Very interesting choice.

    • KendraMR

Not bad, but I’m not feeling his hair and the color, or the black and brown combo. In photos he does nothing for me; but on screen, I can’t resist his hotness.

    • Imasewsure

OOH I love this suit and tie combo…. perfect neck to toe for me… the swarmy looks he’s giving on the RC don’t help, but I’m warming up to the face as well

    • CatherineRhodes

Did you really say “it’s hard to screw up a black pinstriped suit”? If history has taught us anything, it’s that no suit is unscrewupable. Try: bad fit, too long hem, too-wide lapels, too-thin lapels, cheap fabric, double-breasted, to name just a few.

    • Dandesun

For some reason, that last picture where he looks about a second away from selecting someone during his lecture works for me like whoa.

But I have a serious weakness for all Avengers named Chris.

    • MannahattaMamma

Is anyone else seeing swinging Ken (of Ken-and-Barbie) circa 1978…?

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I am in favor of this improvement.

    • Jacob Bowen

That first picture’s smile is good enough for me! Has this been two Sausage Friday’s in a row where he has appeared???

    • Jecca2244

don’t know if it is because he is from Boston too, but I adore him.

    • Clash D

I love the whole combo of what he’s wearing here. I COVET THAT SUIT AND THOSE SHOES. I only wish he’d had used a larger tie knot to balance out the shirt’s Forward-Point collar.

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

Is he annoyed or confused? It’s hard to tell.

    • Monabel

Oh, I LOVE a skinny paisley tie!! (Showing my age…)

    • fananafanafophalec

Captain Ameridad in disguise as Chris Pine. Ugh. Shave, free you hair from its gelled confines, and find a look that belongs in this century

    • somebody blonde

Why does he keep furrowing his brow in pictures? It looks so weird.

    • KT

No, he does not look good. Something about this is so… retro dad. Retro gangster dad, specifically. That is a bizarre title to give someone, but that’s what it looks like to me.

I cannot deal with his goofy ass facial expression that he always gives. I think this suit is unflattering and makes him look bigger than he is – not in a good way. I want him to shave his hair and dye his hair darker so that he looks more like he did in Not Another Teen Movie (shut up). HARRUMPH.

    • Melissa Mendes

Is Scott Disick his style icon? If so that would make so much sense.

    • e jerry powell

I have no complaints, even with the hair color.

Ladies and gentlemen, dinner is served.
