Cat Deeley at LAX

Posted on March 13, 2014

We’re fascinated by this … thing Cat’s wearing.

Cat Deeley grabs her luggage after arriving at LAX carrying a Burberry tote bag.

Is that a leather poncho? Or is that considered more of a capelet? Either way, leather? That’s a little weird, right? Although that reaction seems silly, since we wouldn’t bat an eye if she was wearing a leather jacket or leather pants. Still… it’s an odd little garment. Having said that, our initial reaction, before we realized she was wearing serial killer couture, was that this was a really cute little getup for dashing through an airport past photographers. The boots are killer.

Not gonna lie, I want a leather capelet now. This is cute.

  • nannypoo

I’d wear that cape. It’s gorgeous. Leather apparently makes a slippery cape, though, as she seems to be holding it closed so it won’t fall off.

    • YoungSally

There should be some sort of nap on the inside if it is just a piece of beautiful leather (assuming there isn’t a lining)..but maybe it is finished smooth on both sides….

  • @Biting Panda

My bias towards her may be effecting my opinion forming abilities, but I like it. I have a little sweater shrug, scarf with arm holes, thing that I live in. It’s warm but leaves my arms free. I can see how this would be perfect for the plane but is elevated past the Pashmina type wraps many ladies use to cover up mid flight.

  • One part hoodie!cape that Leelee Sobieski was wearing a while back, one part Camp Fire Girl at the Council Fire rehearsal chic.

  • AzSportsGirl

I can only say I *never* want to be the unsuspecting photobomber in some pap’s snap of a celb. It would *not* be pretty.

    • annie

Definitely not. Nor do I want to accidentally utter the word “bomber” in an international airport in this code-orange world.

  • Julie Skipper

Love. Love a cape, and love leather. And I think it’s a perfect travel outfit! Must go search the interwebs for one, now.

  • FrigidDiva

Kind of reminds me a little bit of the cape you wear at the stylists when you’re getting your roots touched up. However, the outfit as a whole is fab.

  • Emily Dagger

It’s great when she can stop herself clutching it closed. Then it transforms from Kicky Leather Capelet to Smock From Extraordinarily Fancy Hair Salon.

  • elirt

This reminds me of a black capelet I used to have and drunkenly left at a friends house. Must get it back (if they didn’t toss it… it’s a bachelor pad…). *tear* The fact that I have something similar that I adored makes me say “yes” to this.

  • decormaven

Hmm, that’s an interesting take on a travel wrap; I’m more of a Secret Sweater kind of gal. But I do love her booties, and that gorgeous red polish she’s wearing on the nails.

    • kimmeister

      Secret Sweater?

      • decormaven

Google it; it’s like a pared down shrug to wear under a jacket or coat. Good for layering on a plane.

  • lobsterlen

Is it more shawl than capelet? I always think a capelet as being able to close it somehow. Definitely not a poncho.Whatever I want one!

  • Jen

It kind of reads leather christmas tree skirt, and yet I think it’s a pretty chic little airport getup.

    • tereliz

      My thoughts exactly!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Count me among the Cat lovers… and I love this. The booties with the white jeans are perfect!

  • oatmealpie

That cape is great for travel. Once you’re on the plane, it doubles as a blanket.

  • hughman

It’s a widow’s shawl for retired Super Heroes.

  • lobsterlen

Is it too late for New Years Resolutions? I want to look like Cat when I am running through the airport.

  • Capt. Renault

My barber has plenty of those in nylon, but no leather ones.

  • Introspective

Loving every bit of this. Fierce indeed

  • Youbeguilemenot

    *Major hair envy*

  • deelup

If I wore that outfit on a flight I’d have spilled soda on my leather capelet and probably gotten some pee on my white jeans in the miniscule lav. How do normal people (aka not me) keep light clothes so pristine?

  • mjmiller77

love the capelet. and really really love the boots!

    • MilaXX

They look like Isabel Morants I foolishly priced once and got my feeling hurt.

  • Kent Roby

I now have this fantasy about Leather Capelet (also spelled “Capulet”) being Juliet’s hot 30-something gay uncle who urged her to date Romeo “no matter what our silly family thinks about it”. I must need coffee and/or vodka!

    • formerlyAnon

Or a block of time and a computer. There’s a farcical take-off, starring Very Attractive People, in that.

  • colleenjanel

If that’s leather, I desperately want to stroke it! It looks so soft and flowy and buttery

  • MilaXX

Looks like a leather poncho. Either way I think she looks cute and realistically dressed for travel

  • Judy_J

Looks like she just came from the hair salon and forgot to take the cape off when she got up from the chair.

  • Imasewsure

I need those boots… cape/throw is awesome (on her)

  • Alyssa

Love this…whatever it is. I now want a cape even moreso than I already did!

  • GorgeousThings

Looks like a leather ruana, but in a very odd length. And the leather kind of defeats the point of a cape/poncho/ruana, but it does so in a rather unexpectedly chic way!

  • Sarah

Hurrah for capes! Although I’m not sure if you need the little pocketses on it. Her arms look about a foot too long to use them.

  • kimmeister

She looks like she’s wearing a sting ray.

    • pookiesmom

OMG. I love it the shawl/cape/ponchket, but your comment made me laugh out loud.

    • kerryev

Yep. Stingray with a zipper where its spine would have been.

  • Rand Ortega

A Ponchlet? Whatever it is, she looks impressively chic.

  • Gatto Nero

This is fine — but I just came from the Tilda page, so everything else looks mundane in comparison.

  • Kate4queen

Tablecloth from 1st class on plane???

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t love the capelet. I have a history of not loving capelets unless they appear in politically incorrect fur. Hence, I own none.

I AM in awe of her white jeans-wearing ability and the way she’s approaching iconic-cool-British-blonde-in-airport here. (A category I invented from my youthful admiration of rock bands’ retinues – mostly Rolling Stones – photographed at airports).

  • Constant Reader

Can we talk about the hair? Roots, color… it’s awful.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I love capelets even though I cannot wear them (too chesty). I love this outfit.

  • Belle239

I seldom get too excited about shoes, but oh my. Those are fabulous.

I love this little leather capelet and I imagine it was a very easy and comfy on the plane. Like a little blanket and you don’t have sleeves to struggle with in a smallish space. And, she is tall and willowy enough to wear it.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I would call this a shawl, not a hand crocheted or knitted shawl, but a fabulous, tailored, classy shawl. Perfect for travel as it’s not constricting and drapes nicely over the shoulders which is especially nice when you’re seated for a long period of time.

  • The boots are great- she looks cute.

  • TwiddlyStun

Do you suppose as stars rush through the airport showing off the labels on their free items they are having an inner monologue about how they are working on selling those products?

  • pookiesmom

Is it a shawl with pockets? I don’t know what exactly to call it, but I love it and I want it on my body right now.

  • JynxTheCat

Maybe she ran out of the salon mid blow out to drop some coins in the meter? I kinda like it.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

It looks like it could be a nice little covering, on a flight?

  • Jacob Bowen

PLEASE don’t tell me the poncho is back in!!!! My sister’s ex-boyfriend’s mom wears them EVERY DAY. And they are ALWAYS the knitted ones with the fringe and WAY too big on her.

  • quiltrx

Obviously she can’t keep the thing on without holding it…so I think it’s a pretty wrong thing to wear when luggage-wrangling.

  • Sarah Caponigro

    I love this all.

  • MannahattaMamma

you know how when you go to the hairdresser & the stylist wraps you in one of those capelet thingys before you get your hair washed? Yeah. That.

  • allcapsERINN

I have a girl crush on her. She can wear whatever.
