I don’t understand the top. I don’t like the look of elastic at the waist. I hate the shoes.
And the skirt is so wrinkled- which does not help!
The volume under the waist is really weird. It’s like the skirt is draped over a hidden tutu.
Looks so fun on the runway but quite sad on the *mauve* carpet. Also, can something get that wrinkled from a car ride. It looks like it was crammed into her gym bag and then pulled out on the ride over.
Just say no to nipple darts! Also, the color of the bodice just doesn’t work for her. if she’s going to do white it has to be stark-anything in the cream or even ivory family is too close to her skin. And the prim putty pumps? No way lady. You had options here…
Skirt’s too long, but that’s probably because it wasn’t altered from the runway version and Miss Caitlin is much shorter than your average runway model.
Where’s the ransom note for all the jewelry in Hollywood? It seems to be missing lately. This dress is practically screaming for some obnoxious jewels.
wrinkled mess with bland shoes.
Whatever the opposite of realness is, this is Jessica McClintock/Gunne Sax anti-realness.
SOO TRUE that it’s scary. If you do a search under “Jessica McClintock” on ebay, a variation, if not this exact dress, will appear. Not that I just tested that hypothesis or anything…
Omg Jessica MCClintock! Haven’t heard that in years!!
Yup! Not since high school.
The bodice fits very oddly. This also has a bridesmaid feel to it design-wise. The color of the skirt is pretty but it needs to be ironed. The nude shoes were a total mistake. Her make up & hair are nice but I dislike the lipstick matching the skirt.
Girl needs a decent strapless bra.
All of that…both this and her look in yesterday’s T-LO featured these really strange and unflattering waistlines. Dresses that look like two pieces that weren’t meant to be worn together…it is some strange theme or what?
The one picture on the side of her hand with the clutch and then the other with her feet/shoes is giving me a serious optical illusion of her feet actually being that close to her hands. In other news, I don’t really like anything going on here.
Of all the fashion shows, fame-whore designers, and every Fall/Winter/Spring/Resort/Pre-Fall seasons each year…you managed to choose a poorly executed and generically designed frock. Congratulations, sweetie. You look like crap.
Word. This pile of silk, undoubtedly expensive, looks like a bad Home Ec project. And if I were a designer, I would contractually obligate the starlets to make a date with my steamer before they had photos taken.
I am not familiar with the Houghton label, so googled their most recent lookbook. They have some pretty interesting silhouettes and some nice pieces – not sure why anyone would choose this mess.
We’d had a bit of a reprieve from that horrible waistline for a few weeks and I can’t say I am pleased to see it back. The colour and shape of the bodice does nothing for her, I matched my lipstick to a dress of that same fuchsia in 1988 and it is still a bad idea and those shoes are ugly. I have other negatives about this look but this is enough for now.
If you were pricing this dress, how much do you think it would be? Not considering designer or anything like that–just on first impression?
$79.95. Possibly with a free set of steak knives.
Hmm, I was thinking clearance rack at Walmart: $14.99 maximum. Now someone needs to google and find out how much they are really charging for this dreck.
The website doesn’t have prices on it that I can see. So irritating.
That doesn’t even make sense. But it’s probably ridiculously expensive despite how it looks.
Would they even stock a dress this old on their website?
It’s featured on the season lookbook. I couldn’t readily see a way for purchasing garments online. You seem to have to make an appointment for one of her trunk shows.
This looks like a bad bridesmaid’s dress. Even the shot from the runway is underwhelming. I understand being attracted to the skirt on this dress; it’s fabulous and very pink! But it requires someone to follow you are around with a steamer to make it work. On the plus side, her face and hair look very pretty. I love the lipstick, though it would be better if she hadn’t tried to match the color of the skirt.
Wow is the fit off on the bodice of this dress. And that pale color is not her best friend either. With the colors switched this would’ve worked much better for her.
Looks very very very cheap. And flammable.
Yes, it probably has one of those “do not remove under penalty of law” tags stitched into the seam. While I appreciate her attendance to a benefit for a worthy cause, I can’t get behind this look.
Looks like something I would have made for my Barbie out of leftover satin and cheap ribbon when I was 8!
Wrinkled skirt, putty shoes. ugh.
This is one really white Whiteboard.
Oh dear, the fit on that bodice is terrible. And the entire thing looks hella cheap……
Love the clutch. Everything else is awful – the dress looks wrinkled/cheap, the matchy lipstick is making me twitch, the shoes are passive-aggressively ugly, and her posing makes her look like one arm is significantly longer than the other.
Was she aiming for blush and bashful as her event colors?
Everything is… off. Try again, sweetie. And don’t match your lipstick to your skirt next time.
She apparently lost the repurposed bridesmaid dress challenge….
Oh, dear. That’s very McCalls Make It Tonight!, isn’t it?
Heck, it’s Make It In One Session of Home Ec Class.
She has doobie hair sans hairpins
My kingdom for a decent garment steamer!
Yuck. She’s too short for this dress.
The top doesn’t fit, the skirt is wrinkled and looks kind of cheap and those shoes are awful. To say something nice, I like the purse.
It’s a wrinkled bed doll Barbie..
Skirt’s too long, nude shoes are too ugly, and lipstick is too matchy (though, thankfully, it IS a color). Oh – and the fit in the bodice is wonky, and girlfriend desperately needed to steam that skirt.
ETA: THe clutch is really cute, though.
Bodice looks wonky on the model too. Design fail.
GAAAAAAAA! Nude shoes. ’nuff said.
The gown reminds me of one of my vintage Barbie’s dresses, right down to the look of it having been stored squashed in a box for 40 years and the belt has gone missing.
Sad little dress and horrid shoes.
Yes, the dress and shoes are ugly and cheap-looking, but my first reaction was horror at her clavicles. I have to look away. Seriously, I have a thing about skinny women and their clavicles. Hers are more upsetting than Keira Knightley’s. (Sorry–too weird, I know.)
The color of the top is wrong, too close to her skin color. Matching the lips to the skirt is twee. That hairstyle makes the worst of her hairline (her widow’s peak makes this look like a freaking comb-over).
She would be better off barefoot than wearing such boring, boring shoes. Those are PTA-meeting shoes. Those are shoes worn by a middle-manager at an accounting firm. I hate those shoes and want to pull them off her and set them on fire.
The dress is limp, the cream color does nothing for her (nor does the style of the bodice), and the shoes are not only putty-colored, but they appear to be sport shoes rather than dress shoes. And why no earrings? (Of course, I don’t know who *would* be flattered by that darts-get-in-your-eyes bodice.)
The skirt is an awkward length on her. Should be a bit shorter, as on the model. Hate the nude shoe. Wish she had not matched the lipstick to the skirt so exactly.
She’s beautiful and slender and should have endless choices in clothes. Why does she so often make bad ones?
Those bustline/darts are something else – and not in a good way. She’s too pale for that cream color and those shoes – YIKES!
So cute on the model but ooooohhh not so much on our girl here. She is dead to me (once I figure out who she is) because of those hideous shoes!! Oh Masters of Sex.. .got it… dead to me!!
Go home Caitlin, you’re drunk. You obviously rolled around in the dress for a while before you got to the RC, too.
Ugly shiny satin. Hate the stuff.
Girl has some killer collarbones! But that dress is awful on her and those shoes further take it into fugly territory. The clutch is cute.
Looks like a “the look for less” knock off of the dress the model is wearing.
I’m sorry, this does not look like a designer dress, but an eighth grade home ec project.
So much better said than my thoughts but in the same vein. It looks like it was made from fabric purchased at Walmart.
No kidding! It looks like that on the model! What the…
Cute head. Too bad about the cheap dress.
GGHASO. Girl, go home and start over. Ugly prom dress.
I love the clutch, but she needed to steam her dress and wear a belt.
Man, that schmatta doesn’t look good on the model. Waaay ugly. Cute clutch though. And the less said about the unfortunate shoe choice, the better. If we ignore them, they might go away.
Neck up is fine, even good. The rest is sad, except for that cute as a kitten clutch. The shoes are puke-worthy.
Cute purse. That is all.
Looks like she raided my girls’ dress-up bin; how bizarre and cheap-looking.
This is a textbook example of what NOT to do with what could have been a decent look. The bodice doesn’t fit right and the cream color is sad next to her skin tone, the skirt is wrinkled, too long and the shiny fabric makes it look cheap. She is desperately in need of earrings and/or a necklace. Hair is too severe. Your eyes go right to her shoulder bones. Say no to the nude shoes. They are bringing the look down. Somehow that matchy lipstick is looking clownish. Keep the clutch and start over.
The skirt looks SO heavy, and even the carpeting looks OLD!
Hideous in just too many ways
Suburban housewife stepping up in class for the evening… (The best description I could come up with)
Hmmm. Looks beautiful on the model, colour and texture-wise. Needs a belt, and a dark skin tone.
This dress is tragic: the colour, the length, the fabric, everything sucks here.
Ewwwwwwwww. That is awful.
GURL…learn how to cut a bodice!
In the words of the great Karen Walker: Honey, what is this? what is going on?
Oh, honey. Bless your heart.
