Making the neckline lower and wider than the runway version was a bad idea. That’s too much chest. Pretty colour though.

      • mellbell

I think it’s entirely possible that Ashley Judd has enough going on up top to give the appearance of alterations where there aren’t in fact any. For example, the distance from the bottom of the neckline to the waist seems proportionate to the model picture, and both necklines are slightly squared off in the same way. Some necklines just lose their demureness when they’re not on a runway model or someone of similar build.

        • berkeleygirl

Agreed… Also, the model shot is straight on, while all of Judd are the from side and back. I’m not crazy about the dress, but she looks gorgeous.

    • SuzyQuzey

Terrible dress, but I love how she looks so confident.

    • @Biting Panda

      Elie Saab for Target.

    • Sarah

Her face is looking very…tight. The makeup is not helping the harshness there. I like the color, but I feel like the dress is cheap looking.

      • RedRaven617

I sincerely hope she uses a different plastic surgeon than her sister or mother. Or maybe it is a natural process for the Judd women?

        • Sarah

I don’t know, but she is a lovely woman and I hope she knows that inside as she gets older.

          • barbarienne

Ashley Judd has been pretty outspoken about Hollywood’s sexism. It makes me sad to see her getting “freshened up” in a noticeable way.

    • Myra Amler

      Not loving the fit.

      • Sarah

Yeah, I like the skinny belt on the model, and I was thinking why does it bother me that she doesn’t have one with a gown, but it’s because it doesn’t fit right.

    • Gatto Nero

I think TLo should host a “guess-whose-sternum-this-is?” contest, featuring anonymous torsos from the red carpet.
First prize is the power to ban sternum-baring dresses forever.

      • alyce1213

Great idea — there are so many possible contestants from the past year.

      • Imasewsure

Yes but I would just keep guessing Naomi and eventually I would get it right (at least enough to get a C anyway)

      • MoHub

The sternum is the least of my problems. What I’d like to ban is visible underboob and sideboob.

    • alyce1213

Love the color, but the fabric looks very poly and it’s obviously too low-cut.
Her smile is radiant. She looks happy, and better than she has in awhile. I have fondness for her.

    • Danielle

All that sternum and it STILL looks frumpy. Amazing.

    • hughman

Add $3 zillion in diamonds, a turban and some geighs and she’s Liz Taylor.

    • israel8491

The dress looks very comfy, I’ll give it that. It also looks like the dress equivalent of sweat pants. Unfortunately, comfortable and the red carpet rarely go together.

    • sagecreek

Oh, no, honey. Doesn’t matter how thin you are, at a certain age you need some structure.

      • Little_Olive

Yes. To which batwing sleeves are a cruel enemy. They are nobody’s friend, really.

    • DominoEstella

      she looks very pretty

    • Miss Ruth

I’m meh on the dress, but it’s a lovely color for her, and her face looks uh-mazing.

    • MilaXX

Neckline is too wide, but that’s a great color in her & she’s doing her best to sell this look

    • hazel martin

That would be UK Blue in March;)

    • jilly_d

That’s too much Sternum. HOWEVER…..if my butt looked like that, I would enter all rooms walking backwards.

      • TwiddlyStun

I was going to make a sternum remark, but I see you have the anatomy covered already. Wish she did.

    • marlie

How I’ve missed Ashley Judd on the red carpet! The color is beautiful on her, and her makeup looks good. I wish she’d kept the belt because the dress is a little too shapeless without it, but I still like the dress on her.

    • Bozhi

That is not her neckline. Not really flattering. The color is good, but I liked the red better.

    • Lucinda Head

Looks like a NIGHTMARE to walk in. CAUCHEMAR.

    • formerlyAnon

She’s still pretty. Too much sternum. The dress looks as if it is awkward to move in. Whether or not it is, that’s not a good look.

    • AnnaleighBelle

She’s always had the definition of a perfect face to me. And her speaking voice is gorgeous. If I were a straight man or a lesbian, she would be on my laminated “to DO” list.

    • Jacob Bowen

      Blue, shapeless mess.

    • clatie

Great color. Her new face has finally settled in.

      • Trickytrisha

You mean, perhaps, that her face is no longer puffy from medical steroids?

        • clatie

          If you say so

    • MinAgain

Great color, and she looks very pretty, but that is a little too much sternum for a woman her age.

    • kimmeister

The draping on that bodice is ghastly. It makes all wearers look like their boobs are swinging around near their elbows.

    • Trickytrisha

Too long, too clingy, too low cut (another member of the dread Sternum Club), and too blue. Second from the bottom pic, looks like she’s about to trip. Beautiful woman, just not her best moment.

    • ballerinawithagun

I think the dress would fit her correctly if it didn’t have the mermaid train dragging behind it. That knit would grab onto every inch of carpet and eventually pull the dress right off of her… I can’t imagine all of the lint that she picked up on the inside of that train. She is gorgeous and that blue is beautiful on her.

    • Pennymac

The short red version is better.

    • beebee10

I wish she’d run for Senate in Kentucky. That would have been great!

    • cocohall

Naomi Harris called and wants her dress back . . .

    • quiltrx

Looks like her face has calmed down (or she got off the prednisone, if that was the truth).
The fit is a little off, I think, but that may just be the silhouette in general. It’s so nice to see her on the RC.

    • Skippymom1

I’m sorry, but when you can see the thigh [muscle] definition and show a great ass in a not so great dress, looking this confident? You can pull the sternum baring V, especially at her age. Confidence shows in spades for Ms. Judd. And the smile? Beautiful!!!

    • ScarlettHarlot

I like the color so much, and she looks happy, so I consider it a win, even if it is too long.

    • mickiemonkey

Droopy fabric around the boobage is just not a good idea. That fabric look very elastic, like if it got caught on something, it would launch her into the balcony.

    • Crystal

Is exposed sternum a thing now? Sigh.

    • uprightcitizen

I think she looks gorgeous, but then I’ve always thought she was cool. But when did she become a grande dame of the Industry? She looks positively Streep-ish all of a sudden. It seems like five years ago she was an ingenue. God, I’m old.

      • OffToSeeHim

Don’t think about it. The other day I saw a commercial for Cougartown, and I thought, “Geez, Courtney Cox looks so OLD! Ha ha, I guess those Friends reruns keep her young in my mind.” Then I remembered we’re the same age.

    • SewingSiren

Overall it is a very elegant look. It could be improved with a higher quality of fabric.

“Oh hey guys, I’m just here to work it.” – Ashley Judd

    • BLauD

Representing UK True Blue. And by UK I mean University of Kentucky, of course. Really a gorgeous color on her, but the fabric and the train look as if they are clinging to the carpet for dear life.

    • MarissaLG

WOW. Show the kids how it’s done!

    • Patrick Cleary

It’s not a great dress, but she looks fantastic in it. That’s a star.

    • decormaven

Minor quibbles on the mermaid train, but the color is great on her and she is working the look. This is appropriate RC wear.

    • B_C_J

Movie star! Just wish the dress wasn’t getting caught by the carpeting

    • Bert Keeter

Ditch the train and make the neckline a tad more dramatic…win!

    • boweryboy

The shorter length is better and it definitely needs the belt. I love the color

    • amaranth16

I… really like it. Interesting color.

    • therealkuri

I think this style looks better with the knee-length hem that the model is wearing.

    • KT

The train is too complicated, and really needed to be more fitted when paired with that blouse-y bodice, but the overall effect is good. Nice color, and she looks chic and striking – especially in that first shot. And kudos to her for still looking almost exactly the same as she did 20 years ago – give your face and body team a raise, honey.

    • EEKstl

I love this on her but wish she’d worn the shorter version. But she looks stunning.

    • MartyBellerMask

Oh, I wish she’d worn the belt!! But she really looks fabulous.

    • VicD

Shailene, let momma Ashely show you how it’s done. I don’t love the dress, but that’s the BEST that dress is ever going to look.

    • Mojone

      It’s a Carmindy dress.
