Zosia Mamet for S Moda Magazine

Posted on February 04, 2014

Zosia, honey! You’re a model!

This is, we may have mentioned once or twice, the phrase each of use to buck up the other one when they’re trying on an outfit and they’re not sure how it looks. You have to say it in exactly the same voice that Samantha Jones said it when Carrie Bradshaw was forced into a pair of sequined Dolce & Gabbana panties by Alan Cumming for a charity fashion show.

Gayest sentence we’ve ever written or gayest sentence EVER?

Anyway:

“Girls” Zosia Mamet covers the latest issue of S Moda Magazine photographed by Eric Guillemain.

She really does look fab here. Hats off to the stylist, who kept her true to her own earthy alterna-hipster  style while making her look picture-ready at the same time. She’s never looked this chic.

She looks AMAZING!!!! FLAWLESS Look in picture #3. I’m in awe! Bravo!

    • kimmeister

      I covet that cuff!

  • gabbilevy

The cover and the second of the inside images are really good, but she just looks PO’d in the black and white shot, and not in a good way. Still, baby steps.

    • mshesterp

The crossed arms don’t help. Cranky toddler is what I got from the 2nd pic, but loved 1&3.

      • decormaven

Cranky toddler FTW! You nailed it.

      • littlemac8

        Cranky toddler without a neck!

  • ballerinawithagun

She looks fabulous! Love the diagonal knit dress. Cleavage??? Weird. She is one person who looks correct with a non-color lip.
Also a laugh when I first glanced at the cover…Now Horny slithered through my brain.

  • nannypoo

She’s been showing more personality and looking less gloomy lately. She looks really pretty here.

  • Glam Dixie

Clothes wise she looks pretty great, facially she looks so dead eyed and has no change of expression. Ever. Do not get that show or the interest in these boring ‘girls’.

    • Adrianna Grężak

Exactly what’s bothering me. If she doesn’t want to model, then why pose for the magazine?

      • Glam Dixie

Perhaps she actually does want to model and thinks she is serving up serious face. Then it’s just sad. Tyra would have sent her home the first week.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

She’s a hipster, and hipsters can’t admit to ever being excited about anything as commonly exciting as modeling for a magazine.

        • Constant Reader

Maybe she was going for Existential Dread and this is the face she makes while she’s thinking “I have no idea what existential dread even means.”

  • lobsterlen

    Her eye makeup is stunning!

  • KinoEye

Brava! She’s really very good at the pissy, doesn’t-suffer-fools modeling. The natural set of her face helps. Coveting the last dress and silver cuff.

    • lobsterlen

She should buy that last dress. It really is perfect for her.

  • Jessica Freeman

Uncles, I think you both know the GAYEST thing ever said was the meringue pie disaster.

This is really how she needs to try and style herself more often. I love it.

    • Kathy Monkman

Ohyeah I’ll never forget that meringue fiasco. Monumental.

    • formerlyAnon

Thank-you for reminding me of that.

  • Little_Olive

Agree with TLo re. pictures # 1 and 3. Picture #2 is so “I don’t care what you think, mom. You are not the boss of me and I’m not going to read at your cousin’s funeral”.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

“I don’t care what you think, mom.” Perfect! It is exactly that.

  • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

Why did they have to cover that gorgeous dress on the cover with TEXT?

Thank the Jeebus if you click through on that link just below there is a shot without the text. :)

I am so mad in love with that first outfit, pairing the leather jacket and belt with that dress.. LOVE.

  • Anna

The scowl to end all scowls. Don’t hurt me Zosia, I like your cover.

  • Danielle

How about “gayest sentence I wish I had thought of first”?

  • @Biting Panda

    WERQ Miss Lady.

  • sagecreek

    She looks amazing!

What I want to know is, what’s the thought process that led a European fashion magazine in search of a cover face to say, “Pues claro! La Zosia!”

  • Isabel

Question on no.2 – Does she have a tat on her foot? Is it painful to get one there? I would be wiggling my foot the whole time.

    • Sarah

It is. It’s worse if you wiggle!

    • Jessica Freeman

Its not pleasant, I found the healing to be worse considering my foot tattoo took about 20 minutes. My foot swelled twice its size for a few days. I recommend getting one during the warm months. Flip Flops are your friend.

      • Bexxx

But then there’s the sun exposure issue. Foot tattoos are definitely one of the more difficult pain- and care-wise!

        • Jessica Freeman

Yes, that as well. It does sting when the sun hits it. I am a vampire in regards to the sun since my skin burns easily. So I can say for me, that part wasn’t hard.

        • TobiannReinhard

No doubt!! I’ve been needing to get mine touched up for quite some time now but have been putting it off because it is such a pain in the ass to deal with while it’s healing. I had mine done in two stages and each time I’ve had issues while it healed…foot tattoos are a bitch!

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Anywhere that the skin is thin and there isn’t a goodly layer of padding over the skeleton hurts more. And if you have form for kicking your pedicurists in the face, as I do, foot tattoos probably aren’t going to work for you.

  • Lilithcat

    She has simply gorgeous eyes.

  • CatherineRhodes

Not sure how matted hair counts as chic.

  • Lorelski

I hope it’s okay to say this: What is going on with her cupid’s bow (above her lip)? I’ve looked at previous head shots of her and nowhere else does it look so off-center (doesn’t align with her nose) as it does here. At first I thought it was a botched Photoshop job in the top pix, but it’s the same in all of the shots. Anyone else notice this?

  • Kathy Monkman

Wow she really looks great here. It gives her personality some personality too.

  • JauntyJohn

Until this shoot I hadn’t realized that she had such a Sixties countenance going on — she looks amazing; simultaneously current and of another era.

And I’m sorry, TLo, I absolutely revere you, but I accidentally uttered the gayest sentence ever one night, in my apartment in the Castro in 1997, when in a panic I cried to a gentleman caller: “No! No! Don’t [heavy slang term for male orgasm] on the drapes!”

    • Rand Ortega

When I first saw the pics, I thought, “Channeling Ali McGraw”.
I have no comment about the gayest sentence since I can’t stop laughing about it.

    • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

Wasn’t she on Mad Men too? You may be sensing the residual sugar from that.

      • Sue Shea

Zosia plays Joyce Ramsay, a lesbian friend of Peggy’s. Joyce works as a photo editor at Life magazine and serves as Peggy’s spiritual guide through the beatnik underworld of New York in the 1960s.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s the clear element of panic that has me grinning widely.

      Chuckling, even.

  • Rand Ortega

Love her face. She looks so much like her mama here. The pics are flawless. PB.

  • marlie

The bitchface is the same, but it works for these photos. Zosia looks pretty good; kudos for her!

  • Kate Andrews

    Wow, I want that jacket.

  • Sam Smith

Cover shot is leaps and bounds forward.

  • boweryboy

Granted, they’re nice photos (love the silver cuff), but the bitch face is getting old. Why can’t she smile more? She looks so great when she smiles.

  • Clash D

The styling is brilliant but she needs to learn how to relax her face. Third photo is win.

  • Randy Noak

    Hipster girl is over it.

  • alyce1213

These are good photos, but I’d like to see more personality, some light in her eyes. Her expression here carries a flat affect that says nothing about her.

  • Kat

Love the last look. That silver cuff is perfection.

  • MilaXX

Well done. She’s not smiling in a single shot and these are still possibly the best pictures of her ever.

  • Tatiana Luján

I WANT what she´s wearing in the cover. I would never hd thought I would ever want something Mamet was wearing.

  • bizarro

I’m just gonna say it- I want to BE HER on the cover! The sullen face bothers me not. Clothes, makeup and hair – she is owning it. Love.

  • rkdgal

I hope she paid attention to whatever the makeup artist did to her brows — they are rocking for the first time in EVER.

  • Kate4queen

    She looks gorgeous!

  • Paula Pertile

    She looks great.
I had to look up ‘hornada’…

    • kimmeister

I was happy to learn that new word as well. I vow to use it the next time I’m talking about baking (in Spanish).

    • sekushinonyanko

I didn’t make an attempt to read the cover, so when I was scrolling and saw this I was like !!! because on the show “Don’t Trust the B____ in apartment 23″ Dawson calls Chloe “whorenado” like whore-tornado on the phone once and I was thinking “this outfit’s not THAT bad!” Now I realize that is not even sort of what you’re talking about and I’m laughing at myself. Of COURSE my brain goes directly to the passive aggressive place…

      • Paula Pertile

Its totally innocent, yes. But my mind ‘went there’ too, which is why I had to look it up.

  • mewesley

European/Latin American stylists are more simpatico with the Zosia Mamets of the world than Norte Americanos.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

The cover is amazing and the third shot is perfection. The second has that weird floating head effect, but I’ll happily forgive that as long as they give her the stylist/hair/makeup people to follow her around forever.

  • Chuck Barthelme

Wow. Every time I see a picture of her lately she looks better and better. Great shots.

  • scoobynacks

On the cover, the messy hair looks like it’s on purpose. The third picture she just looks like she needs a hair brush.

  • MzzPants

I hope she walked away with some solid advice, or at least somebody’s card, because she looks fantastic.

  • judybrowni

    She cleans up nice.

Zosia also look good in her Mad Man role of Bohemian ’60s lesbian, so that’s another style to shoot for.

    • formerlyAnon

I think the ’60s eye suits her.

  • Mismarker

Zosia Mamet is the fourth Haim sister, right? Strap a guitar on this girl and get her in the band.
But, seriously, that cover shot is amazing and all involved should be praised. Love it!

  • Kent Roby

I do love her in the cover shot and the last one (not the B&W). She has interesting features that, I think, could go over-the-top editorial modelesque with the right styling. In other words, I want to see what Mister Jay can do with her!

  • crash1212

Best eye makeup ever. Cover is beautiful. I still like her hair in the shorter version she’s sporting now.

    • Lilak

      Check, check, and check!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I want that wonder woman cuff in the third picture. In fact I want 2 of them. And this is the best she’s looked.

    • Danielle

Plugging my friend’s business: Rustic Cuff has a ton of cuffs like that.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

        Oh the pretties!

  • Betsy

    She looks gorgeous and unconventional.

  • Nancy Karpen

She never looks this good is right. She should hire the stylist.

  • venusvelvet

Kinda reminds me of young Keith Richards pics. Her face, I mean.

    • formerlyAnon

Weirdly, I get it. Never would have come up with it on my own.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Isn’t by default the gayest thing you guys have ever said automatically the gayest thing ever said? I mean, seriously, are there gayer gays? Certainly not more well spoken ones. The trophy is yours. (It’a a tiny golden Alan Cumming wearing the pink D&G panties).

  • YoungSally

actually I would like to see Alan Cumming being forced into sequined short shorts by SJP….but not sure he would have to be forced.

  • formerlyAnon

Hat off to whomever did her makeup.

  • Chaiaiai

Uncles, my dream is that you get to say that exact sentence TO Alan Cumming AT a charity fashion show. dear flying spaghetti overlord, please make this happen.

On topic, I like her toughened up look!

  • LaSylphide

Love her expression: not bored, but bitchy. Bitchy is your look, girl.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I hope she took notes! She looks phenomenal in #3 and in the cover shot. #2? Zosia, leave bitchface to the January Joneses of the world.

  • bravobravp

How am I supposed to feel when I read that sentence in samantha jones voice before I even read your follow up sentence?

  • understateddiva

I heard it in my head that way without being prompted. But I’m glad to have read the gayest sentence ever anyway!

  • roche

TLO, the Sex and the City episode you quoted just happens to be my favorite episode of all: from the music to the clothes to the splat that Carrie takes on the runway, it’s SO good. By the way, I got THE BOOK, and will see you this Thursday at your NYC gig downtown. I’m going to run over from work and hope that the line’s not too long for me to get to you guys before my lunch break is over.

  • hmb

    Meh.

  • Joanna

She still looks miserable. I am losing patience.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

I think she’s so interesting looking and these pictures are fabulous.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

me too! i’m becoming quite the fan. i bet she’s fun to hang out with, too.

  • ItsDicey

    Effing fabulous!

  • MaggieMae

Great. They really played up her strengths and avoided making her into someone she isn’t. Love the 3rd pic and I want that cuff.

  • megohd

She does look gorgeous. However, has she had a nose job? Her upper lip crevice (what is that thing called? Essentially the taint between the lips and the nose) is slanted.

  • suzq

Brava, Zosia! All that Spanish fashion becomes you. Spanish women tend to look that pissed off, too.

  • demidaemon

She looks so pleased with herself.
