Zosia Mamet at the Alice + Olivia Fall 2014 Presentation

Posted on February 12, 2014

Oh Zosia. Absolutely nothing goes with anything else here. That’s so Zosia.

Zosia Mamet attends the Alice + Olivia Fall Fall 2014 Presentation in New York.

Alice + Olivia Resort 2014 Collection

Way to make a bunch of cute items come together like a “bag lady on the subway” ensemble, girl.

And yes, we do consider those crazy pants cute. They just need to be styled correctly. Also, that coat should probably be closed for pictures. It looks like it wasn’t meant to hang open like that.

I think she should consider getting in touch with a new stylist. Let’s remember the editorial she did a couple of days ago, she was stunning. Fire this useless stylist who is “working” with you right now Zosia and get a new and better one. I hate those palazzo pants with that coat.

    • kimmeister

I hate even more the long sleeved shirt with that coat!

      • Diego!

I kinda like them! I hate those pants!

    • Evan

I feel like this is a new stylist compared with how she look a few months ago…

  • newleaf1

    That’s a fabulous coat, though.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Forgive this Floridian, but I’ve always wondered what you are supposed to wear under those coats that have 3/4 length sleeves. Are you meant to wear long sleeves under them? I think it looks weird but its seems even weirder to have bare arms when it’s cold enough to wear a coat.

  • ewes_urn_aim

Her hair and makeup look nice.

    • heartsleeve

I was just thinking that her foundation doesn’t match her skin and makes her look oddly non-human.

      • ewes_urn_aim

I was just trying to find something nice to say. lol But I can see what you’re saying.

  • @Biting Panda

But we love it right? There’s so much thought and effort. There’s personality and personal style. It’s kicky and befitting of a young lady on a cable show.
If i were a younger, thinner Kitten, I’d be finding a way to make those pants work in my life. I think she’s adorable.

    • deelup

To me it just seems like real life clothes. You put on an outfit which is cute. Then you don’t have a million coats to choose from. So you just put on the one you like. And then you don’t bother changing your stuff into a different purse, so you just carry the one you’ve been using all winter even thought it doesn’t go at all. But it’s big enough for your ipad and a bottle of water and that’s why you always carry it.

      • kmk05

But then, the only thing clashing are those trousers: replace them with skinny black jeans (or even patterned black jeans, I’m not fussy) and both the bag and the coat would work. It would be a little preppy, though, especially with that collar.

  • Jessica Freeman

I should hate this, but for Zosia, I quite love it. Her head is looking fantastic these days as well.

    • Alyssa

Seeing her smile and look like she’s enjoying herself makes her look so much better overall! I love the crazypants.

  • Vickiefantastico

Personally, I HATE the pants. They belong as curtains, not clothing. Also, her makeup looks odd to me. It’s too white, and it seems to stop below her forehead. On the plus side, her smile in the last pic is adorable.

  • thecitysleeps

I love her to be honest. She just wears whatever she likes in the way she likes.

  • sagecreek

I do think the pants are adorable.

  • OneRing

The pants are fab. The coat worn that way gives me the sads; it would so cute worn buttoned up as a coat-dress.

  • amaranth16

I’m just so glad she’s trying! Her hair/makeup are looking good these days.

    I love the pants.

  • SewingSiren

I had a pair of pajama pants like that. My mother bought them at a garage sale in 1974.

  • KateMaryC

I actually like it on her. It’s like Zosia went to Neiman’s instead of Forever 21. It’s still her, but with fabulous things, plus gorgeous hair and makeup.

  • And I love how her face lights up when she smiles. Nothing really fits, either. Sigh.

  • Danielle

I am going to go ahead and say it- I love the cat eyeliner on her.

    • Sue Shea

me too! so cute! and i love the coat. the rest. ick.

  • Anna

As madcap Zosia looks go, this is one of her better ones. I’m partial towards the purse because I’ve been schlepping a similar one and I love the pants. Love her winged eyeliner too.

  • thesevenendless

To be fair, the coat is gorgeous. It seems that Zosia is good at picking out nice pieces (but sometimes of whacked out pieces too i.e.. mustache boob Emmy dress), but hasn’t gotten a handle on how to filter them to make a cohesive outfit.

  • cocohall

I think we need to factor in “David Mamet’s Daughter” into whatever equation we use to judge this little pixie. I can’t imagine growing up with Mr. M for a dad (pretty much the king of snark with little patience with the trappings of celebrity – State and Main, anyone?) and find yourself schlepping the red carpet and appearing in gossip rags and fashion blogs. How they must laugh over the the Thanksgiving turkey about the ironies of life. YET, and this a big yet, you can have all the edge and snark you want, but secretly most of us want to look good, especially if cameras are involved. She looks caught between those impulses here. I care so I have a fabulous haircut and expensive pieces, but not really, so I will go as dressed as if my four year old cousin selected my outfit. I think in time she will figure out a look for herself that doesn’t look like she is trolling us, but also doesn’t appear as if she has hired Rachel Zoe and gone full tilt celebrity.

    • demidaemon

It’s a hard balance, but I’m sure signing up for cable TV shows already caused some tension. Maybe she should just go full-tilt rebellion against Daddy, now.

  • KinoEye

I adore the pants. However, I think they’d look best if the wearer had some substantial height. My best friend in high school was 5’10, and she could’ve rocked these pants, along with the badass black jumpsuit she used to wear with sky-high heels. I think Zosia is closer to my height of 5’6, and I’d look about as overwhelmed as she in those pants. Still fabulous though.

ETA: I’m seeing it more and more with every appearance of hers, but girl’s got some serious fashion potential. If she could find someone who can help her channel her good instincts into better ensembles, she could light the carpet on fire. Love the way her makeup and hair are styled here.

  • Emily Giovanni

Re: the “nothing goes with anything” theme, is she wearing mismatched earrings?

  • I had pants in a very similar print in 1991, but they were gathered at the cuff. I think her hair and makeup are doing so well at the moment that I don’t really want to criticise the rest, so let’s just say I love the coat and rings.

  • MilaXX

I hate those pants and I doubt I would like them even if styled better. I see her love of wearing all the rings continues. That said her hair and makeup looks fantastic! It’s everything South of the neck that’s wrong.

  • boweryboy

I think all the stars of Girls are pulling an epic performance art trolling of the red carpet. There’s no other way to explain their consistently poor sartorial choices.

But hey, at least she’s smiling in the last photo. I like her so much more when she does.

  • EveEve

Let us not forget how far she has come from the scowling sourpuss hot mess to this.
So, she’s at least heading in the right direction. I mean, she’s cut her hair and combed it (yay) and put on make up, and isn’t messing with us with the clothes. I think with the coat buttoned up and a different bag she’s have look great.

  • marlie

I like her haircut, ad I love the coat. And that’s about it. The pants should be set on fire, and I don’t like the bag either. And her makeup isn’t working for her; it doesn’t “go” with the rest of the look.

  • Janet B

The list of coats that look better open than closed is probably very short.

  • Kent Roby

I think that Zosia is from the Kate & Ashley School, where she’s been immersed in show business since birth and therefore is determined to show a nonchalant don’t-care attitude (to separate herself from the desperate body-baring attention-craving newer starlets), even when throwing on designer clothes. Though the entire look is a bit of a mess, I think that this works pretty well for her, and is about the best we can hope for.

  • mjude

I like the coat. agree it should have been buttoned up.

  • nannypoo

The model couldn’t figure out what to do here either.

  • prettybigkitty

Her hair and makeup look good. Points for that!

  • SugarSnap108

I love and need the coat. And as a Wearer of Too Many Rings, myself, I like that part of her style.

  • MoHub

Cropping the jacket would have made it work better with the full pants. Or the longer jacket with a kicky knee-length skirt.

  • Tatiana Luján

if the pants were a fitted above the knee skirt and she ditched the bag, I would be on board with this look.

  • I also like those crazy pants. Please send them to me, Zosia, I know what to do with them. I have it all planned out…

  • pookiesmom

Am I blind? I think this all goes together very well. What about white, floral, and blue (of a shade that appears in the floral) doesn’t go together? Is it that the styles don’t go together? Like…to my eyes, the shirt that she chose goes better with the pants than the sweater on the model. What am I missing?

    • Tatiana Luján

I think the colors and print of the clothes go very well together. Not so much the shape of the coat with the sape of the pant, nor the print of the bag with the print of the pants.

    • Cheryl

To me, it’s not the colours that are the problem, but the silhouette/shape of the garments. Big voluminous pants, and a wide A-line coat is too capacious. She could go camping and use those clothes as a tent. Both items would be totally cute paired with other items.

    • It’s the combination of shapes and styles – a big python print bag with enormous spring-like floral trousers with a beautiful, severely-tailored grey coat and white shirt. You lose the shape of the coat having it open like that, and you lose the detail of the neckline having the shirt collar over it. You lose the main design feature of the shirt cuffs coming down over her hands by having them stick out of the bracelet-length coat sleeves, ruining the proportions of both the coat and shirt. And you lose the fun, billowy shape of palazzo pants by having them weighed down by the severe, kneelength coat.

  • Candigirl1968

If the coat was closed and she put the bag down, the outfit might have looked pretty great (provided you ignored the makeup and jewelry)

  • Cheryl

She’s one of those people that I find hard to separate from her character. I have to look at her and repeat, Zosia, not the super annoying Shoshanna. That said, this is an annoying combination of kinda of cute elements. I’m envious of those pants, but couldn’t wear them in a million years (severely vertically challenged).

  • TigerLaverada

Actually, I like that outfit. I’d say the stuff they’ve put together in that model shot looks far worse.

  • melanie0866

what a cute coat, though. I want it.

  • Shawn EH

Like trying to be Sophia Coppola, but failing.

  • Qitkat

But we all think she is genuinely trying harder, amIright?

  • I want the pants to be knee-length skirt and for her to have a different bag, and I think it would work.

  • Tracy_Flick

I like the coat and her hair/makeup are adorable. I really don’t think this is that bad, except for the 90s mall bag.

  • I don’t know if she should fire her makeup artist, or GET one. I like the hair and eyeliner, but her foundation is about 10 shades lighter from the forehead down.

  • suzq

Coat and pants belong in two different outfits.

  • jw_ny

Sure, kinda baglady-ish, but I think this suits her quirky persona. I’m not finding anything here that doesn’t really go together, except the bag does clash with the pants….it goes well with the coat tho. The backdrop exacerbates the pattern clashing issues, imo.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Let’s all sing it – “I’m only happy when it raaiinns!”

    • kimmeister

I think Shirley Manson’s style wipes the floor with Zosia’s.

      • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

I was referring to Zosia’s near-contant piss face.

        • kimmeister

          Ah, got it.

  • tallgirl1204

I do like the cat-eye eyeliner very much.

  • Imasewsure

Ditch that hiddy bag and I could live with the rest. Still think she looks so much better overall lately so I’m fine with giving her a pass on this one. Would love to see those pants featured rather than hidden though

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Hey there, Sister Mary Sofa Print! How’s it goin’?

  • Therese Bohn

Glad she abandoned the center part, at least!

  • quiltrx

This is all so confusing and causing eye pain. I’ll give her that she looks pretty good from the neck up.
But what I keep coming back to…where does one even FIND a Snakeskin Grandma Purse?

    • Guess used to be pretty good for tacky snakeskin bags. Not sure about now!

  • ScarlettHarlot

Somewhere, Mayim Bialik is seeing these pictures and coveting this outfit.

  • Dagney

You are right. Nothing goes. But SHE is wearing it I love this. Weird, unconventional, and totally her. IN.

    • i’m glad somebody besides me liked it. the hippy in me is crying out for those pants! i love the bag, too, although it’s sad the reptiles who gave their lives.

  • Trickytrisha

So, she or her makeup person decided that only her lower face needed powder, and lots of it? It’s so distracting to see Caspar the Ghost on the bottom and au naturel Zosia on top. Like the hair though, and parts of the eccentric 80 year old aunt’s outfit.

  • snarkykitten

“Look at me! I’m so over the hollywood scene! Let me show you by wearing clothes that cost more than most peoples’ mortgages! Whateverrrr”

  • didgerdoni

I just wish I could wear eyeliner like that without looking like a freshman at clown college.

  • dash1211

    She makes me tired.

  • housefulofboys

Wow, all those rings drawing attention to…seriously chipped nail polish? Sorry, one of my pet peeves, if it’s chipped, take it off! I like all the pieces, but they sure don’t go together.

  • Little_Olive

That pitiful bag carries 70% of the guilt of the whole ensemble’s offense, IMO.

  • save_the_hobbit

I’m sort of in love with those pants.

  • That bag is perfect for my client meeting tomorrow. Wonder if she’d let me borrow it, since it doesn’t work with the ensemble (mess-emble?) at all.

  • VicD

I hate this FAR LESS than most of the things she wears.

  • somebody blonde

The outfit is bad, but her head looks good!

  • demidaemon

I could maybe sort of like this with editing, but the fact that those pants are resort makes me think they are horribly season-inappropriate. That picture with her smiling and happy is adorable, though. More of that please, Zosia.

  • cmb92191

Give those pants to Florence and all will be forgiven

  • lillyvonschtupp

Bag lady, you gon’ miss yo bus!

  • Needs more rings and her eyeliner is insufficiently quirky. /snark

  • papillon

    I love the coat.

    • NBG

And she should have to pay a fine or do some community service for what she did to it.
