WITFU: Adam Lambert at the 2014 Family Equality Council LA Awards Dinner

Posted on February 10, 2014

Attaboy:

Adam Lambert attends Family Equality Council’s annual Los Angeles awards dinner at The Globe Theatre in Universal City, California.

It seems odd to be praising Adam Lambert for Willising It The Fuck Up, since he’s never been the type of guystar who needed to be told to put the effort in on his style front. And we’re sure to piss off some of his fangurls, as we tend to do, by bowing down for this, the absolute most conventional look he’s ever worn in public. This is praise-worthy to us not because it’s fashion-forward in any way. In fact, we’d probably yawn if some like, say Bradley Cooper wore this out. What makes this so great in our eyes is that it’s absolutely, top-to-bottom, laser-sharp impeccable. The fit on that suit is to die. Of course we’d recommend a different tie and shirt, but the ones he chose still work well for him. We’re just grateful he didn’t wear a black shirt.

    • Danielle

      Snaps of respect!

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

He has such pretty eyes. I assume it’s a trick of the light that is giving the glitterball effect on his shoes?

      • Lucía Gavello

Oh I’m assuming it’s not, and I kinda like them! I wish they didn’t have the big rubbery platforms though.

      • Janet B

Those are some terrifically shiny shoes. I’m seeing stained glass.

        • PatAfan

I think they’re just black patent leather and are reflecting light.

          • Sherry

Yes you are right. Patent reflects light anyway as I used to wear black patent shoes years ago. I love the heels it gives him some extra height and comfort.

            • PatAfan

Easter = patent leather Mary Janes when I was a kid. Adam’s addiction to footwear and jackets never ceases to amaze me. Forbes Mag said he earned $5mil last year, the majority of which, I’m sure, was spent to indulge his fashion needs. Good for him!

          • NYCGlamourpuss

            Yeah, it’s a cool effect.

      • Eric Stott

I think they’re reflecting the spotlights above him – a mix of red blue and white.

      • marlie

I think they’re supposed to be iridescent or something similar.

      • Danielle

With Adam Lambert, it’s probably safer to assume those shoes are shiny on purpose ;)

      • Glam Dixie

I saw them in close up somewhere else and they are silver and iridescent.

    • Carrie

It may not be fashion forward, but damn does it prove why the classics are classic. He looks amazing here!

      • Trent

He looks fantastic, and he’s been getting cuter and cuter for some time now. Love the haircut and the toned-down makeup. I do worry that he may be getting a little TOO thin, though…Hollywood-itus?

    • MikeW_Vegas

As much as I don’t like Glambert on general principles, I have to give him respect for event appropriateness.

      • PatAfan

Not being confrontational, just wondered what “general principles?” He’s generous, talented, articulate, smart, fashionable, and funny. Seriously, just curious.

        • MikeW_Vegas

Nothing in particular.. he’s just one of those that’s on my “irrational” hate list. I have nothing against him personally.

          • PatAfan

Haha, well that makes me feel better. I feel the same way about Celine Dion and Alec Baldwin, tho Baldwin has done plenty to earn my dislike. Poor Celine just makes me want to do something ugly to her, but being a grownup, I just spit out an expletive and turn off the TV. Ok, been nice being irrational with you. Have a good life.

    • bhl_1123

Not to mention this look makes him look YEARS younger than what he normally sports.

      • Eric Stott

He appears to have lost a little weight and his hair color is normal (or at least realistic) and if he’s wearing any makeup it’s very light. It’s all very Hot Boy Next Door and I love it.

        • rkdgal

I agree — it’s nice to see him step back from the BLACK hair towards his natural gingerishness (particularly in the beard). We need more hot gingers, Adam; embrace it!!

          • kmk05

More beard is needed, though. This is a little too ‘Shia LaBoeuf’!

            • SierraDelta

The facial hair is neat and neatly trimmed, but I don’t think it suits him. He looks kind of like a chubby-cheeked pre-teen who got into his parent’s makeup and drew the beard on and was interrupted before he finished.

            • kmk05

YES, ‘PRE TEEN’! That’s what I meant. I mean, who am I to judge facial hair choices, but it’s not coming out at ‘suave’ but more as ‘sweetie no’.

            • Eric Stott

I tend to agree- this is a beard with some potential. Shia’s is very “OK, you tried, now shave”

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

          And no neckbeard!

        • filmcricket

He’s been on Glee lately (yes, I feel shame, please throw rocks, I’m still watching it) and except when his character is in performance mode, he’s just been rocking the clean-shaven college-guy-in-a-henley look and it works sooo well on him. I had no idea he was so attractive under all the guyliner.

          • MilaXX

            Psst, I’m watching too!

            • filmcricket

We’re both bad and should feel bad.

          • http://raistlinsama.tumblr.com/ Raistlinsama

Add me to the pool of people still watching… Adam Lambert was a nice addiction to the cast.

        • irielle

You nailed it. This photo could be in an encyclopedia under Hot Boy Next Door.

      • Wooley

        My thoughts exactly!!

    • lovetheusa1776

      Quietly smashing.

    • alyce1213

Are you flirting with me, Adam Lambert?
He looks fantastic in a regular suit like this, although I do like his more flamboyant style as well.

    • Joyce VG

*swoon* I love me some Adam Lambert

    • DinaSews

He looks like he lost a ton of weight! Did I miss a post when he got so thin? Even his skin looks healthier. Way to go Adam.

      • DinaSews

Also, the WITFU posts have become a favorite of mine. Probably because I’m going to see a well dressed man!

        • Sartorial_She

Every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man! (I couldn’t help myself, even though I surely should have.)

      • funbunn40

Adam’s been lean and fit for quite a while now, especially during his time with ex bf Sauli, who’s into excercising, juicing and a healthy life style. I saw Adam at a M&G at the Fontainbleu in Fl. and he looked magnificent, drop dead perfection and hot as hell!

    • imperfectlaura

I’m impressed by two things with males on the red carpet: guys who step outside their comfort zone and look good and guys who stay inside their comfort zone but look absolutely amazing and I can’t deny it. This is definitely the first one. Like you said, it’s not necessarily memorable if another guy wears it. But on Adam, it’s different for it’s mainstream-ness(technical term). And it’s done really well.
On a side note, I like how WITFU, is very close to WTF. Nice juxtaposition.

    • marlie

He looks pretty great. It’s a pleasant surprise to see him in something so toned-down. I think his hair looks great, and personally I think he’s cuter without the heavy eyeliner. Plus, he still gets to add a bit of his usual style with the shoes.

      • Anna

The first thing I noticed were his eyes. I always thought he was good-looking, but I also found all that heavy eyeliner distracting. He looks so much better this way.

        • Sherry

Anna he doesn’t wear heavy eyeliner anymore and hasn’t since Glam Nation Tour in 2010.

      • Sherry

Adam seldom wears eyeliner and realizes that there is a time & place to wear it i e. on stage at a concert not at an event like this. Personally, I think a little eyeliner looks great anytime. There r women that don’t look as good as Adam wearing it.

        • AnnaleighBelle

Are you his mom? Did he call you and let you know?

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Sometimes, when you’re known for outrageous looks, an occasional foray into the standard becomes noteworthy because it is such a departure. The colors look amazing on him and as you noted, the fit is great. He looks fantastic.

      • PatAfan

Ha, Adam moved into the standard over a year ago. He’s so p c now that we sometimes look back fondly on the crazy train days. ;)

    • adamluv1000

Can’t remember who the shoes are by, but remember they cost $500.. He looks amazing these days.

    • TigerLaverada

He looks great. Love the WITFU posts, by the way.

    • Mallory2696

No one can wear a suit like Adam Lambert can.

    • Rand Ortega

San Diego representin’!! What I love about this ensemble is it isn’t so focus pulling it takes away from how good looking he is. Usually he’s got so much going on style wise I don’t notice the smile or the gorgeous eyes. When he’s stylishly all over the place, my attention moves from 1 ridiculous detail to the next with “Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves” playing in my head.

    • Let it out

      George Michael realness!

    • DKBB

I do love a man willing to spend money on a tailor. That suit fits him PERFECTLY.

    • formerlyAnon

Oh he’s just adorable when he’s dressed to soothe the old folk. The mother in me just wants to take him somewhere and show him off saying “See? Didn’t I tell you just how handsome he is?” (all terribly nonverbally, of course) to a roomful of women more-or-less my age whom I think of as biddies and who have the mistaken impression that my little ugly duckling doesn’t just outshine all of theirs put together.

Ahem. Not that that’s not a little disturbing AT ALL, oh NO.

      • Leah Elzinga

I have an absolutely perfect visual of this in my head now, so thank you.

      • marlie

“I TOLD you he cleaned up nicely!”

      • AnnaleighBelle

Awwww…that brought tears to my eyes. Although I have been drinking.

        • formerlyAnon

A friend used to have a saying to the effect that emotion that surfaces before the bottom of the third glass is real emotion released, after that it is emotion manufactured. (True or not, his version was catchier.)

    • 808glam

Looking classy with an edge! And the shirt matching his eye color… brilliant look! And appropriate for the event. Also love when he glams it more up on other occasions. Oh, and let’s not forget his magnificent voice!

    • Glam Dixie

I have a hard time being impartial with him, I love all of his attempts at fashion because he’s a man who loves to play with clothes and you’ve got to love that. The result is sometimes he hits it out of the park and sometimes he misses but he always has fun doing it and I love it. This is a WIN. Those flirty eyes are killing me.

      • formerlyAnon

I have a weakness for guyliner and would have loved just a subtle touch. But I realize this is an idiosyncratic view.

        • Glam Dixie

I think he actually has on just a little bit of eyeliner. It looks great, I think it suits him.

          • formerlyAnon

Could be. I was crediting dark (or dyed) eyelashes.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I love guyliner. I regret that my husband’s New Romantic period was before my time and left no photographic evidence.

          • formerlyAnon

            Life, she is not fair.

    • largishbearishAtlish

Going out on the ledge here but….ick. Smarmy/creepy bordering on stalker-y. Sorry, rings do NOT belong in noses no matter where they are. Mustaches should touch the beard. if you can’t do it, don’t grow it.
<> going to scroll other T’lo reviews to find some nice pics of non-creepies.

    • luluransom

He looks really sharp. Sans the usual gewgaws, I finally had the chance to notice his gorgeous blue eyes.

    • Chuck Barthelme

And he shaved the neckbeard! That deserves a WITFU by itself.

    • MilaXX

I think he deserves to be commended not only for Willising It The F*ck Up, but also the maturity this look demonstrates. It shows he’s learning the difference between when to wear his typical glam rock stage wear looks and when to tone things down a bit. I also like that he kept a few notes of his own trade mark style with the franken shoes, and piercings. Well done, Adam!

    • Sherry

OK who wrote this piece? First of all, Adam Lambert is a walking fashion icon with impeccable taste in clothing and accessories. He is bringing back the thin tie but only man that can wear it and make it current. His shirt is perfect for this suit and don’t get why the critic. The shoes are unique and Adam wears them well. Some of these Adam Lambert wannabes should take lessons from him. Many of the other male pop singers wear jeans, white tee shirts to events like this.

      • Trickytrisha

Uh, you ask who wrote this piece? Hahahahahaha!

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

What on earth is your problem with this post? It was nothing but compliments.

        • stagmania

Check out some of this poster’s other responses. Definitely a super fan.

          • filmcricket

Gotta love Disqus. I’m pretty sure it sends the equivalent of a Google alert to people if they want it, so they can go to any article about something they love (or hate) and comment, regardless of whether they know the site or not. The AV Club has seen a huge influx of commenters with an axe to grind for the same reason.

        • Glam Dixie

How dare you say his shirt and tie are too dark!!! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!! (haha, sorry, I had to)

        • MilaXX

Pretty sure this is a BSC ‘stan that gets offended at even the slightest hint that their beloved is less than perfect.

        • H.A.

She is a known troll. She’s a sad middle age woman who doesn’t have a life.

        • AnnaleighBelle

This seems to be happening more frequently – the obsessive fans running defense. You two crazy kids have made it! I guess.

Plus, critique is a perfectly cromulent word…

      • @Biting Panda

WITHFU is a compliment. The people who wrote all of the pieces here coined the phrase last year. Go get your righteous fangirl indignation on elsewhere.

    • colleenjanel

I am NOT a Glambert fan at all, but I have to admit that he looks pretty damn sharp! This may be my favorite look of his!

      • Sherry

Why are you even here then? Just had to say something negative didn’t you?

        • Glam Dixie

Sherry, cool your jets dear, this isn’t the place for it.

        • marlie

There was nothing negative about what Colleen said. Please dial it back a notch.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

She came for the fashion and stayed for the cocktails. And you?

        • H.A.

You’re a BSC Adam fan who posts on every Adam article embarrassing yourself and his fans. Do you do this on purpose? Get a life.

          • Glam Dixie

            Love your avatar!

        • Rand Ortega

          Uh, is this performance art?

          • demidaemon

            SHADE. Love it.

          • decormaven

And when do we clap? Or do we clap? [wanders off, muttering and confused...]

        • colleenjanel

HUH?? I think I said something quite positive. Are you sure you’re responding to the right person?

          • colleenjanel

Oh nevermind. Apparently by saying that I’m not a Glambert fan, I have mortally wounded his #1 BIGGEST FAN IN THE WORLD EVAH!11!!!1!!

Clicking on Sherry’s profile reveals that she trolls the internet commenting ONLY on AL stories. Silly me for thinking I was replying to a fellow BK.

        • colleenjanel

SInce my comments were deleted, I will try again by replying no, I actually said something quite positive. And I am here because I am a regular on this forum, and understand that it is a fashion blog, not a Lambert fan site.

    • Trickytrisha

Dang, he’s purty. And really really well put together here.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I’m not a fangirl, so I don’t expect him to look a certain way. I think he looks great in this, though I could do without the nose ring

    • Matthew Davie

I know he’ll never truly give up the pompadour, but this hairdo is SUCH a step in the right direction. Yay.

    • mjude

      he looks great.

    • stellamaris73

He does look extremely good – this is a more natural look for him. No guyliner, spackle, dyed hair, etc. He looks young and healthy.

    • Imasewsure

I love it that he’s mixing it up by not mixing it up! He looks great and also still has that AL edge.

    • nannypoo

He is so handsome and so talented. I am a recovering American Idol fan, having finally given it up this season after that cruel and manipulative stunt where they put kids on two buses and made them find out if they made it to Hollywood Week by discovering where their bus was going. But anyway, he can sing in any style and sound good. I wish he had chosen a genre I like better for his career. Oh, and I think he looks fabulous here.

    • Nonnah

And unlike B.Coop. the facial hair looks purposeful. No neck beard. Applause all around!

    • lovetheusa1776

Hey – don’t keep us in the dark, T&L – what kind of shirt and tie would you have liked?

    • KinoEye

The shoes. If they’re iridescent on purpose, that’s awesome — a great way to subtly inject some flamboyance into a fairly standard outfit, keeping it true to his personal style. If not, that’s a neat little effect. Excellent all around.

    • jw_ny

it amazes me the effort he must go thru in his grooming/dying of hair, eyebrows, beard, etc…since he’s a natural redhead. He really looks quite polished.

    • irielle

I think he looks chic, which isn’t a word I would have used for him before. I don’t know if it’s haircut or what, but I don’t remember ever noticing what beautiful eyes he has.

      • Snailstsichr

I think that shirt sets off his eyes nicely.

      • TRSTL

His eyes really shine when not weighted down with 5lbs of mascara……..

    • Shawn EH

There’s something Young Elvis about him to me.

    • LeelaST

Total Adam fan here (but not a “Glambert” – yikes!) and although he looks great I just can’t stand the facial hair, or the new addition – that nose ring. Just no.

    • duneboi

I have to say this is pretty much the way I dress for work, and there’s a reason I stick with neutrals. The focus, then, is on the face – and when engaging in conversation, there is no distraction from a colorful article of clothing. That said, I do mix up the neutral color palette with cool blues, navy, pale pink/purple, but in subtle ways. Looking at these photos, your eye immediately is pulled to his face – which I think was the intent.

    • TRSTL

He looks soooooo much better without all the goth makeup and overly done hair. Boring or not, this is a great improvement in my book. I no longer feel that if I took him home, I would have to count the silver the next morning.

    • understateddiva

I like the hair; I’m getting a little George Michael from it.

    • demidaemon

Impressive! It’s nice to see he has range and knows when to adjust his style for the occasion.

    • AnnaleighBelle

      Mad sexy. His eyes POP!

    • fursa_saida

I’m sort of sad for the lack of flamboyance because I love that about him, but I won’t argue that he doesn’t look good here. I’m freaked out though because without his usual approach I’m seeing a Zac Efron resemblance.

    • Montavilla

I’m assuming he did the shirt-smoothing and pant-leg fluffing this time around? If so, I guess he’s listening to your tips. :)

    • LambeeBaby

It’s nice to see him looking so beautiful without the glam-fare. I forgot how handsome he is. Well done!

    • Nancy L.

But this is what I truly love about Adam Lambert- he is so unpredictable! Just when you think you have his style figured out, he changes it up. Goregeous, talented man no matter what he is wearing..

    • KT

I’m just grateful he isn’t showing me up in the makeup department, like he usually does.

      • lovetheusa1776

        Usually?

    • quiltrx

Love the hair, and he looks very handsome! I like that the shoes still make it very “him”.

    • Jacob Bowen

Gosh, he is SO cute, not my type, but SO cute. I think I am going to WITFU and emulate this outfit!

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

        Definitely get those shoes.

        • Jacob Bowen

FOR SURE. I would wear those to Gay Men’s Choir and make ALL the boys jealous…

    • Sherry

Well it looks like on this site it’s ok to criticize Adam but not to defend him. I’ll never come here again. Sad that a journalist has to encourage ppl to comment negatively.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

You didn’t defend him; you attacked anyone who said anything you didn’t like. You acted reprehensibly and you owe several people apologies.

        And we’re not journalists.

    • JLE12

I love this look! He is so handsome. I do like that he pushes the envelope sometimes but yep, he is looking better than I have ever seen him in this last year. But the nose ring? Not a fan. It’s distracting.

      • funbunn40

Not a fan of the nose ring, but have aways thought the clip at the top of his left ear is very sexy. Adam’s face is so classically handsome, too much embellishment can be a distraction instead of an enhancement, but he gets easily bored and enjoys trying different looks. I just hope he doesn’t pierce that perfect face, leaving scars if he tires of the look.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i seriously thought this was one of the jonas brothers…

    • kimmeister

That is literally the skinniest tie I have ever seen. Any smaller and it would be a bolo.

    • funbunn40

I actually like the shirt and tie, the shirt picking up the color of Adam’s eyes and thought he looked impeccable. His suits are always designer, perfectly tailored. I’m glad the shirt wasn’t gray and he didn’t wear the mauve, paisley suit that he recently wore. I thought he looked elegant and appropriate for the occasion. Adam is never boring and wears men’s fashion so well and must be a photographer’s dream. He’s also old Hollywood, handsome with an edge. Best looking man I’ve ever seen!

    • ModestYChild

That suit wears him, it’s absolutely perfect! Adam looks divine, very classy and those funky colorful shoes have that added ‘punk’. He enjoys playing dress up and it’s a joy to see him wearing different looks at events. One thing’s for sure, he is fashionable and has impeccable tastes in clothes. He is very fashion-forward and he’s not afraid to venture with more bold and outrageous wear.

    • Jessica Freeman

Its nice to see him tone it down once in a while. He looks fantastic.

    • Patrick Cleary

When “bad boys” (or bad boy wannabes) clean up and do it so well, it’s even sexier.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Love him! Even if he’s dressed crazy, I love him, but this is really sharp and handsome! And I love the new “shorthand” – I was wondering what it was when I clicked on the post, and then I remembered the Willis post!

    • 4JJ

Adam Lambert doing an updated Cary Grant look. Beautiful.

    • aahlife

He looks like a younger version of himself. And his eyes!

    • murt

Too funny that the Adam Lambert stans are coming out for this post. He looks good though I’ve always wanted to see what his real skin looks like under all of the pancake makeup.

    • Kent Roby

Thanks for doing the necessary and important research on AL’s shoes! Incidentally, I have some pants out of the same fabric that I’ve worn as part of a costume.

      • Montavilla

You’re welcome. I wasn’t exactly doing research. But I happened on it and remembered that it was a question on this forum. :)
