Love the jacket. It’s nice to see him on TLO!
He may be a nice man, he may be a nice dresser, but I swear he always looks seconds away from murder and mayhem.
It’s the classic movie villain face.
My thoughts exactly.
If you see him in interviews, he is the loveliest and gentlest of men. But he also taps into that scary intensity so easily! A great actor.
I fondly remember Dafoe as the most genuinely chlling of vampires in “Shadow of The Vampire”.
Indeed. And I vividly remember his first screen appearance, in that weird classic “Streets of Fire.” Just looking at his face, as he gazed at the Star he was going to kidnap, told the audience he was TROUBLE….
I still love that movie. Michael Pare, soooo hot!
I just saw that this week!! Hilarious, weird and creepy-loved it. Dafoe nailed Max Schrek. Love this look-kudos to correctly hemmed pants.
There are interviews with Christopher Walken where you get the same vibe, lovely, funny, happily married for a zillion years, and completely down to earth, however, there is still that THING, ya know?
He’s in my “I’m worried they are creepy” actor club along John Malkovich and the always a little scary Christopher Walken. But each an amazing actor.
I think that’s great.
Awww, I was just thinking he was looking particularly elfin.
That love letter to Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the earlier post today? Willem clearly has the same “it’s my face, this is my age, deal with it” ethic, and he too deserves a shout-out for it. Maybe his hair is a little too sculpted and short, though. If someone makes a biopic of Peter O’Toole in the next couple of years, Willem would be a great casting choice. And I love the jacket!
I gasped when you said “O’Toole biopic.” Of course. My Crazyscaryman is the only choice.
I think the known character actors get a real pass. They’re expected to age and get craggy. So again, not only ageism for women, but tainted with sexist too. You’re right though, he’s looking great and real.
The thing about Willem Dafoe is he’s looked exactly like this for 15 years – I think he is now reaching the age he was always meant to be.
It’s all well-fit and event-appropriate but some contrast was needed here.
“with Willem Dafoe as Dame Judy Dench..,”
Is that a corduroy jacket? I’m not sure I can get behind a corduroy jacket.
I don’t see any wale to it in the closeups; I think it’s velveteen or something in that family?
Such a pretty Mephisto…..
I think his eyebrows are drawn on. They may be much fainter IRL. S’okay – it makes his blue eyes that much scarier!
I think I like him with lots of hair. The Julius Caesar look is not for him. But man, that FACE is amazing
His face is one of my absolute favorites, always has been. So much character!
Him teamed with Wes Anderson – I cannot wait!!
As much as I love the pieces, and his haircut, the jacket seems a little too long. It’s making him look shorter, and a bit Frankenstein’s monster-y. Or Herman Munster-y. He needs some color to take it out of Halloweentown. Maybe a great two-tone wingtip in slate blue and black or a navy tee (though the tee itself is a bit too casual, Mr. Dafoe.) Can’t do a pocket square with a t-shirt.
Y’all take a listen, you’ll hear the deep sound comin’ down from Bobby Peru…
I think he’s hot. Should I seek treatment?
That is one of the greatest faces.
I like this, but I can’t tell if it’s because the outfit is good, or because I just love him so very much.
Likely it’s both.
a lovely man
Those beautiful eyes. He radiates intelligence.
Looks good to me. Wouldn’t change a thing.
He looks like a real person who’s lived a real life – and who one would be fortunate to call friend or relation. Since he’s also a good actor, what more praise is necessary?
Love him. Not crazy about the haircut.
Looks healthy & happy- glad to see him on TLo.
I like him with a bit of a wavy mane…but I love him no matter what. He has such a fascinating face–which makes him such a great non-verbal actor (along with the excellence when he opens his mouth!).
And I don’t know how I missed all this…but with him and Ralph I had to go look at the cast list. Man, my heart picked up the pace just reading it. I hope this movie is as great as the cast list!
That’s a great face.
If only he would have worn jeans or some other color T-shirt and pant…otherwise, love the jacket, haircut, and those eyes!
Off topic gossip, but Liam Neeson said Mr Dafoe deserves the prize for best endowed.
Love Dafoe, but he needs to step away from the hair dye.
What I really want from these “Grand Hotel” shots is the model of the hotel.
Gurl is making me thirsty just by smiling and having that haircut.
I love him. LOVE HIM.
