WERQ: Darby Stanchfield in Carolina Herrera at the 2014 NAACP Image Awards

Posted on February 24, 2014

This is just perfect:

Darby Stanchfield attends the 2014 NAACP Image Awards at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California in a Carolina Herrera gown paired with a Judith Leiber clutch and H. Stern jewelry.

The color, fit and shape are all perfect for her. The hair and makeup are flawless. The earrings are super-glam. We’d say she and her team knocked this one the hell out of the park. You WERQ that perfection, Miss Lady. Snaps of FLAWLESS EXECUTION.

I LOVE Carolina Herrera. This is beautiful. The dress is simple & executed to perfection.

  • Sarah

YEAH! As a redhead (for now) I give total snaps up to the grey added to the standard green & ginger-haired combo. It really makes it modern. And it fits her like custom-made, in addition to making her eyes look like gems in her head. Divine.

    • tereliz

Personal best. Her makeup has never looked so good AND THAT HAIR.

    • KinoEye

I was thinking the exact same thing. Green on a redhead is nothing new, but the gray gives it a wake-up call. And that shade of red is absolutely perfect for her coloring. Her eyes are like technicolor next to it.

      • Lucía Gavello

Her eyes are seriously alien pretty… that’s totally a good thing.

  • Heather

I actually gasped at how pretty that is.

  • hunt3002

    Take note Amy Adams.

  • Glam Dixie

This look just took Lupita’s look and bitch slapped it. THIS is gorgeous. (except for scrolling back up I see that I wish it didn’t have that grey band, sigh)

    • Kent Roby

And I think that the grey band is what makes this otherwise basic dress really special! I always find it interesting to see how even us Enlightened Ones (the Bitter Kittens) have completely opposite reactions to looks, like when I think a dress looks “junior” and someone else finds it “matronly”. Anyhoo, it’s all good! And we’re pretty much all in agreement that Darby looks stunning here.

  • hughman

    She’s magically delicious.

  • @Biting Panda

  • Go get it, Ms. Helen Bishop.

    • Heather

I’d like to see Betty try to take her in THIS getup.

  • Yolanda13

Perfection! Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how it is done. I love, love, LOVE Carolina Herrera!

  • She looks incredible. Well done, team.

  • Fits her like a glove and suits her to a T, what more could a star ask for? She looks like an Art Deco illustration, and that is my highest praise.

  • The princess seams not lining up on the panels is causing me pain. Why, twinkie, why?

    • Lower L

I hadn’t noticed that at first, but now that you mention it, yes, that’s a problem. As soon as I win the lottery and can afford to buy this dress for myself, I’ll make sure that detail is taken care of.

    • Mismarker

      Can’t unsee it.

    • I thought it might be an intentional design choice to create the illusion of her waist being that much smaller.

    • formerlyAnon

Curse you for bringing that to my attention! I wasn’t looking carefully enough to see it on my own, now it’s bugging. I’m actually okay with how they miss the skirt seams, but they are too close to meeting the bodice seams for that to ever look right to me.

  • Anna

Simply stunning. It’s blasphemous, but I like it (love it, in fact) better than Lupita’s.

    • KinoEye

I was thinking the same thing. It’s simple, bold and striking, and a perfect look for Darby. Nailed it.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Bam! There’s your timeless Hollywood Starlet look right there. Lovely.

  • Danielle

  • gabbilevy

Oh, yes, Darby looks great too.

    • Jacob Bowen

OH THANK GOD! I have been wondering when it would return!

  • ralish

That color is gorgeous on her, but the gray panel looks a bit like shapewear to me.

  • Ceur

I don’t know who this is, but I want her cheeks. Gorgeous dress. I wish they went a little lighter on the mascara, but I’ll let it pass.

  • MilaXX

These Scandal folks know how to represent. I love that one half went to the NAACP awards and the other half went to the
16th Costume Designer’s Guild Awards. CANNOT wait until Thursday night. My thirst for Scandal is real!

  • jw_ny

Very Pretty. Her hair, makeup, earrings, clutch, and rings are really what makes this sing…perfect. The dress is nice, and fits like a glove, but it’s rather ordinary, however that scoop neckline is really lovely on her.

  • Michael_Jones

Do you think she purposely wore something so fitted and that shows off her figure so well at an event where she knew her glamorous co-star would look uber-pregnant? (Probably not, but it’s fun to imagine…)

  • lexilexi

    The simplicity. Perfection.

  • lillyvonschtupp

Imagine Christina Hendricks in this, or Lupita.

    • alyce1213

I’m not feeling this dress for Christina Hendricks — the color, sure. But that wide waistband is not for her.

  • KinoEye

WOW. Nothing like green for a redhead, and her eyes really pop with that particular shade. Absolutely gorgeous!

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I love everything about this look, but following this blog has made me realize how few fabrics photograph well — this is clearly expensive fabric and it looks really creased in the full-frontal shots.

  • Missy

Wow. That is one impeccably fitted dress. Gorgeous color, too.

  • decormaven

Love the earrings and clutch! Style team knocked it out of the park – kudos.

  • Rand Ortega

    WERQ, IT, TITIAN GODDESS! Wonderful!

  • GeoDiva

  • Lower L

I’m an artificial redhead with eyebrows so fair they are almost non-existent. I want Ms. Stanchfield’s eyebrow makeup, because all I ever see in the cosmetics department is shades of brown!

    • Jessica Freeman

There is a company that makes cosmetics for red heads. Perhaps they have something?

    • MilaXX

I’ve seen people say they’ve had good success with Bare Mineral or Illamasqua

  • Jessica Freeman

    Flawless. Loves it all.

  • Mismarker

Simply gorgeous. Scandal is back this week. Yippee! After devouring House of Cards over the course of two days, I am ready for some more Washington intrigue. Granted, Scandal is House of Cards’ crazy, drunk Aunt.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

If I may add just a teeny bit of preening, one of our nephews has gotten some work as an extra in Scandal. Yes, I”m proud of the lad-sure, it’s just an extra, but he had fun.

  • alyce1213

    Ginger perfection!

    • Mismarker

Check the title of the post! ; )

      • alyce1213

I had no other words. 🙂

  • kimmeister

My only wish is that she’d had a necklace, but everything else is amazing.

  • SierraDelta

I’m having serious earring lust. I want Darby’s and Lupita’s. NOW.

  • stubbornthoughts

Now THIS is a WERQ. That is so her hair and styling!

  • Jacquelina La Bomba

Quick, someone make a Nancy Drew movie and cast Darby as Nancy already!

  • Janet B

Never seen her look so beautiful

  • kt

That grey band and the athletic shaping on her enviably lithe body take this straight to super hero for me, but pretty super hero

  • Snailstsichr

    I swoon over the earrings.

  • Miranda

  • AnneElliot

Perfection. And snaps up to her for not defaulting to mermaid hair like most starlets would!

  • Joey Melliza

the hideous grey needs to be re-thinked

  • colleenjanel

I’m so happy to see lips slowly returning to ladystars’ faces. The nude thing was well past its expiration date.

  • judybrowni

If the dress didn’t make her bosom look a little boxy, this would be a vA VA VOOM moment.

  • formerlyAnon

Yeah, it’s a WERQ. And while that Herrera is lovely, she shows the dress off and the dress shows her off – it is that elusive synergy. Love the earrings.

  • marlie

Gorgeous. Simple and elegant and a beautiful color. And her figure looks KILLA.

  • quiltrx

I would say this dress is the closest to a perfect fit I’ve ever seen. Seriously, a quarter inch and it would be too tight.
And I’ll take those earrings when she’s finished!

  • kategs

oh boy…I am not seeing this the way most are. I mean it’s fine but it’s not taking me away…

  • Kaybegene

She looks fantastic! Where are the rest of the ladies from NAACP?

  • JenR

Beautiful, but I wonder how she can sit in a dress so tight.

  • Sunraya

    This is lovely!
Totally or somewhat unrelated, I thought it was Herrera who had the polka dot chiffony dresses in the most recent collections, but it wasn’t. Does anyone remember who it was? Thanks!

  • Claudia Fernandes

so…Carolina Herrera dresses Scandal? Good for them!

  • Alyssa

She looks timelessly elegant. This color is perfection on her, and I love her earrings.

  • Qitkat

Prettiest I’ve ever seen her. Love that smile and earring bling in the headshot.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Satin that doesn’t look nightgown-y. Werq indeed.

  • WittyCism

    God, her eyes! Beautiful!

  • KES4K

Sigh. This was the exact silhouette I wanted for my wedding dress but a.) couldn’t find in my price point and b.) would’ve been far to heavy for a tiny dockside wedding, anyway. Oh well, gorgeous dress, although I might’ve loved it more with a slightly narrower color blocking, or maybe just a less-contrasting color?

  • E. D.

WERQ. The dress Amy Adams wishes she could pull off.

  • heartbot

WOW. I can’t remember the last time I saw a dress this perfectly fitted.

  • AzSportsGirl

Satin that is not *too* shiny
    Seaming that is not puckery
    Hemline that is not puddling
Satin that did not create nary a wrinkle
Perfect decolletage with nary a babyhead or sideboob
The proportions on those straps and placement on her shoulders are exquisite

  • Oh, the glory of a redhead in green!

  • Lilak

That’s a blade of grass in human form right there.
