Sarah Hyland in Zac Posen at the “Vampire Academy” LA Premiere

Posted on February 05, 2014

When Jenna Dewan wore a similar dress from the same collection, we were more intrigued by a Zac Posen dress than we’d been in ages. The shapes and techniques work amazingly well for the red carpet.

Sarah Hyland attends the “Vampire Academy” Premiere held at the The Regal Cinemas in Los Angeles, California in a Zac Posen dress paired with Jimmy Choo sandals, a Rauwolf cluth, and jewelry by EF Collection and Marina B.

Zac Posen Spring 2014 Collection

It has just enough interest to it to not be boring, while at the same time remaining very much in the realm of the acceptable and agreed-upon. It gives the illusion of taking a risk without really taking much of a risk.

We think we liked Jenna’s a little more for its unusual color scheme and pattern. If this one didn’t have that seaming in the bodice and bust, it might’ve looked a bit too literally retro. She likes to keep her color, prints and shapes relatively simple, which is smart for her, because she’s so tiny and could get so easily overwhelmed by tricky clothes. This dress is a perfect choice for her, in a lot of ways. We just wish the bust was let out a skosh. And that she wore more modern-looking shoes. Other than that, this is a total “Attagirl.”

Oooooh, I couldn’t disagree with you more, uncles! On the model it is youthful and fun, but on Sarah it overpowers her: the bust is too small and her breasts are popping out in an unfortunate way, that inverse darting is just ridiculous, and the length is too long. The colour is great, and her face is cute, but i can’t even muster up hate for the shoes because the dress is eating her up.

    • AC Simons

      Inverted darts – very distracting.

      • kmk05

I was really tempted to type ‘inverted nipples’ bit tried to control myself. On this dress the darts are particularly unfortunate.

        • formerlyAnon

I did not try to control myself. That’s what it looks like.

      • SierraDelta

Looks like her nipples have been swapped out for dimples.

    • Nazzzy

Yeah, this is too much of a dress for her. Other than the color, nothings works here

  • ccinnc

Ouch, my chest hurts just looking at this.

    • Stella Zawistowski

Seriously. What did her ta-tas ever do to you, Zac?

    • charlotte

That’s a dress for Mr. Incredible.

  • Monica

    I see nipples

    • Wendi126

      I see depressed twin labia

      • Monica

        that, too…

      • Anna

        I can’t UN-see that now.

        • LipstickForPigs

I came here to wonder why Mr Posen seems so obsessed with vag. That dress looks like a plate of rare roast beef.
She’s really cute though. I like the sleeker hair and make-up.

          • Anna

Your guess is as good as mine! LMAO @ “plate of rare roast beef.”

  • @Biting Panda

I hope she can breath! Other than worrying she’s going to faint dead away, from lack of oxygen, I really like this. I see she’s done a little jewelry, but I would like to have seen a bolder piece for visual interest. Gorgeous color on her and I agree, this is a definite Attagirl worthy moment.

  • HM3

I cannot un-see the issues in the bust. Overall, though, she looks great.

  • Oh, I love this. A perfect little Valentines Day dress. She looks like she’s wearing a heart,

    • deelup

That’s why I don’t like it. It looks like a box of Valentine’s chocolates.

  • PlethoraofBooks

She is starting to look her age finally! Maybe she got a new stylist?

  • hyperionic

    Giving her armpit vaginas.

  • KinoEye

Fabulous color, but like Miss Dewan-Tatum’s dress — I see labias. Walking around like regular labias. It only sees what it wants to see. It doesn’t know it’s a labia. Bam, M. Night Shyamalan — there’s the premise for your next terrible movie.

    • Jessica Freeman

At some point…did one woman not stop him and say “Zac, you put a labia on all these dresses”. ? Obviously that answer is No.

      • Jacob Bowen

They would definitely have to, because he sure as he’ll has never seen one…or he did and is working through the trauma by subconsciously recreating them in his work.

ETA: This is not a diss of the female anatomy, but more of a gay man’s nightmare…

    • kimmeister

This one is so . . . anatomically colored, at that.

    • mickiemonkey

At a showing of our local community theater’s production of The Vagina Monologues, women attending were asked to dress like labia. It was hilarious; lots of ruffles and pleats. We were all shocked how many labia like items of clothing we had in our closets.

      • demidaemon

That sounds like a fashion nightmare in multiple ways.

  • This reminds me of the motorcycle mirror bodice from that George Michael film clip.. too funky.. and yet I could not tell you why. Maybe because it looks like it moves separately from her body. In fact in that first photo it seems like the dress is about to push her over backwards.

I do not like what this Zac Posen does to the bodies of women. There is quite a titscrepancy here which is not at all helped by the “here is the position of my nipples in case you weren’t quite sure” darts. At least there is no hemscrepancy like there is on the version the model is wearing..

I would have thought Anne Hathaways Oscars dress would have been enough for everyone to steer clear of nipple darts in future.. 🙂

    • marlie

Now that you pointed it out, the hemscrepancy (nice word!) on the model really annoys me.

  • marlie

Sarah looks pretty darn cute! I really like the color of the dress on her. The shoes don’t bother me; I like the retro vibe. Her hair and makeup are simple, but pretty (though the cat-eye makes her large eyes look even larger). The only think I don’t like is the way the bust darts are kind of inverted. That’s just weird and distracting.

  • Anna

Cute look and strikes a balance between youthful, yet grown up enough but that bust is making me gasp for air for her.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Happy to see that she has toned down the makeup, a drastic improvement…

  • SewingSiren

Too bad about the fit at the bust, because otherwise it’s perfect for her.

  • Kelly

I like the shoes and the 40s reference; the labia dress is fun. I normally hate variations on maroon/orange, but it’s not too intrusive here. What I really *do* hate are the nip darts and the fact that the bodice is breast-squeezingly too small.

  • boweryboy

I like the vagina dress in this color much better. Jenna’s fleshy pink version was a bit too literal for my tastes.

  • Danielle

Let’s just all declare fabric labia a Bad Idea.

    • livesarah

I don’t know, it’s pretty labia-tastic, if a bit prommy. But there’s no denying what it calls to mind!

  • artgirl9

YOUCH! That’s quite a little boob squisher of a dress.

  • Betsy

I love this dress. She looks fresh and pretty, boobie issues aside. I sometimes feel as though her face looks so young, that she comes across as a little girl playing dress-up. Here, she somehow managed to strike a balance.

  • Nipple darts bother me at the best of times. Inverted nipple darts bother me even more.

    • Lori

Inverted nipple darts on a bust that’s too tight are yet worse. Anyone who is going to claim to be a fashion professional ought to know that and should have either fitted this dress correctly or loan her a different one.

    • livesarah

I don’t mind them. I compare everything to the Stella McCartney stuff I’ve seen, and somehow that makes it look great.

  • Alex Palombo

She has babyheads – it’s a pretty dress, but it’s not fitted to her properly.

  • It’s like a satin covered box of Valentine chocolates in dress form. Meh.

  • Myra Amler

Glad to see her for once without the clown makeup. Totally agree that a better fit in the bust is needed. Not loving the shoes.

  • MilaXX

This is a pretty good look for her. In fact I like it better on her than on the model. I wish the bust was a tiny bit less tight, but she got hair and makeup right for a change so I can overlook it. I think this poledance for her vampire movie may do her good.

  • Cheryl

Pretty, although looks a bit uncomfortable.

  • Jessica Freeman

I can’t like the dinner napkins on the skirt. Not in love with the color. Also, breathing shouldn’t be limited just to wear a dress.

  • nannypoo

It’s a little bulky and a little too long but a beautiful color for her. I hate the shoes.

    • 3boysful

Oy, the shoes. The dress is a 50’s silhouette, but the shoes are 1940s. And fug.

  • SugarSnap108

That bodice is steamrolling her poor breasts. I’m with the crowd who cannot un-see the walking labia here.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I love that color and it works very well with Sarah’s coloring, but I hate the shoes and I hate that she defaulted to the black clutch and shoes. Some more delicated accesories were called for this look.

The earrings, on the other hand, are perfect.

  • stubbornthoughts

    Bridesmaid nipples.

  • BazoDee

The bust ruins it and I do not care for her makeup here at all.

  • another_laura

You’re right, T Lo, it’s a little too long and those shoes are too 1940s revival for me. I just wish the ladies could get these dresses tailored; a touch here and there and it would be so so very good.

  • halleygee

I like this because she looks better than usual, but wish the length were a little shorter.

  • madge

what is that color — puce? blergh

    • alyce1213

I’d call it russet. I like it.

  • quiltrx

The bust looks REALLY uncomfortable. I don’t care for the colors, but they are working fine on her. I like the shoes, actually.

  • jw_ny

I really like this, and think the shoes are just right for it…especially with that length and fullness. I wish the bust darts would’ve been covered with the fabric folds tho, and agree that a skosh more room in the bust was needed. One other wish would’ve been for the contrasting color of the inner skirt fold to not be satin…too shiny. A semi-matte finish, in the same contrasting color and same type of fabric as the base dress, would have been more refined. Zac likes satin for some odd reason.

  • paintedfish

cute, except for the nipple dimples.

  • Carrie

Her boobs are crying out for help. But she still looks pretty cute aside from that.

  • Imasewsure

No to the babyheads but the dress and everything else is definitely Attagirl-Worthy.

  • beebee10

I really don’t like those titty darts.

  • decormaven

Bust bubble over. Not attractive- a size up could have avoided this issue.

  • Constant Reader

I usually dislike anything that is too on-point for a holiday, but this is Valentine’s Day done in a pretty way. I do wish it had been hemmed a little shorter and that her boobs weren’t so squished. I’d even give her a pass on the shoes in that case. Guess I’m feeling benevolent today.

  • MM4321

I know she’s a bitty thing but that dress is wearing her and not the other way around. It looks like someone poked her with their fingertip and pushed her nips inside out. Not to mention the obvious labia references. Wow.

  • Shawn EH

Don’t like the mascara, but love the vampire chic color of the dress.

  • Trickytrisha

Can she breathe? Tightest bodice in forever.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I wish the bust fit better because this is a cote dress on her.

  • CatherineRhodes

I thought we didn’t like Jenna Dewan Tatum’s “vulva dress.”

  • Dagney

Beautiful young lady, and every time I see her photo I want to strangle her make up artist. Tooooo much eyeliner, ugh..

  • I think I’d actually be ok with it if it didn’t have those unfortunate ‘nipples go here’ darts.

  • E. D.

This seems too long and I agree with the bust.

  • unbornfawn

It is a great dress and Sarah looks pretty darn good. Except the dress seems to be a little too much for her.

  • LeelaST

The best she’s looked in a quite a while, love this silhouette on her. Love that the dress is knee-length on the model and tea-length on Sarah.

  • nycfan

She looked great until I saw the proportions on someone model tall and realized how off the fit really is …

  • snarkykitten

  • VicD

This one does not have the JDT little kitty-eared boobs, which is a major plus. And this one is kinda showing the Valentine love, so it seems very seasonally appropriate.

  • heartbot

  • formerlyAnon

I like this way better than the one Ms. Dewan wore. It may not be so evident in person, but I would like it better without the inverted nipples effect at the top of the center two darts.

  • Joanne Abrams

I thnk it’s one of her best looks

  • KT

This is so far from my personal tastes, but I can’t say she looks bad. Good color on her, and it’s doing wonders for her figure — all I can see are BOOBS. I guess she wasn’t going to let her younger colleague take the titty trophy.

  • demidaemon

I always think she needs a bit more interest near her face to combat her doll-like face. She’s very pretty, but I think she needed something up there (fabric, jewelry, etc.) to combat her extreme youthfulness.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Very nice.

  • Ros

My bosoms are hurting just looking at that.

  • DesertDweller79

Man, I hate the nipple darts so much. SO SO SO MUCH HATE. What woman wants the dress to imitate her nipples?

Like the color, like the shape. But the bodice is too tights. And just say no to nipple darts.

  • pookiesmom

    GTINYD x1000

  • yethica

It’s cute, but what’s with the unfortunately-placed-nipple-dart trend these days?

  • NBG

Great color and shape but the bust fit is sooooo bad. And while this shade is an excellent choice for a brunette, she needed a more elegant do.

  • giddypony

Love this, and her head doesn’t look as as it usually does
