Renee Fleming, Queen Latifah and Bruno Mars at Super Bowl XLVIII

Posted on February 03, 2014

Darlings, we’re the last two people anyone should ever hit up for information and opinions regarding the Super Bowl.

Except what the famous people wore to it. You should definitely hit us up for opinions on that.

American soprano Renée Fleming sing the national anthem during Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in custom Vera Wang black long sleeve gown with pleated accent at the waist and an ivory silk faille floor length wrap coat.

We LOVED this. She’s like a couture superhero. We kept waiting for her to hit the final note and then fly off into the night. A fabulously bold look that also managed to bring some class and glamour to the proceedings.

Queen Latifah performs during the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Pregame Show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in a Moncler jacket.

The Queen went for a more practical look, but no less stylish, as far as we’re concerned. It’s not easy to make a puffy anything look good, but she’s well styled and everything suits her while being totally game day-appropriate. And her hair looked great.

Bruno Mars performs during the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in Saint Laurent.

We don’t know… way too literal a doo-wop retread. We never did like his style. Go ahead and hate us for it, fangirls.

Agreed on all counts. Ladies look fab. Mars looked a bit try-hard for my taste. He can dancw though, so props for that at least.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Well, if there’s ever a time one should try, it’s probably when performing at the Super Bowl.

      • Rhonda Shore

Speaking of, i re-watched Madonna’s half-time show right after, and that was how it’s done, on such a large scale considering the size of the venue. Everything since has been a bit lacklustre, as far as half-time shows go.

    • OhSheila

I actually hated Queen Latifah’s just for the skin tone pants. A black skinny jean/bootleg would have been preferable.

      • AwesomeMargie

Me too. It looked as if she had no pants on.

  • RussellH88

Whenever I see Bruno Mars, I just think how Miss Monae does it so much better.

    • Bridget Smith

I’d never seen him perform before, so all I could think last night was how much I want those two to do a duet.

      • Sobaika

They performed together last year at the Grammys, it was such a fun and talent-filled performance.

        • Bridget Smith

WELL. That’ll show me for not watching the Grammys! Let me see if I can go find it.

      • cbsays

they did one at the Grammys a few years ago and it was great!

    • Aerialgreen

    • They’re both talented in their own right. Bruno is more smooth and a throwback to that soul era. And while Janelle has that, too, hers is bit more broadway-ish; theatrical. I’m also basing it off their albums, as well.

I love them both. Well, Bruno slightly more.

    • Melanie

      so, so agree.

  • M_E_S

Bruno Mars keeps getting closer and closer to looking exactly like Janelle Monae.

    • d4divine

Bruno Mars has been around for some time now. He and Janelle Monae share a love of the retro look, but one is not copying the other…they both are uniquely talented individuals.

  • TrixieConQueso

Queen’s pants and boots get a pass and you diss my Secret Boyfriend Bruno? Uncles, we must talk.

    • TAGinMO

Queen’s pants bugged me because, while they were a couple shades lighter than her skin, they were far enough away from her face (i.e., her only other exposed skin) to create a “Sharpei-legs” effect at first glance.

  • alyce1213

I only watched the anthem and Bruno Mars. Renee Fleming was gorgeous, and so was Bruno. Literal doo-wop is fine for me.
Team-wise, the Seahawks also won for uniforms – very sleek, much nicer than Colorado.

    • Spicytomato1

Funny you mention the uniforms. I thought of T Lo as I found myself scrutinizing the Broncos jerseys with much distaste. The sleeves on Peyton Manning’s jersey were downright blouse-like. I can tell you that the sports fanatics in my house were not focusing on those details.

      • alyce1213

        Puffy orange sleeves = bad.

      • Constant Reader

I thought the Seahawks’ helmets had a Galactic Empire Stormtrooper vibe that went well with their relentless domination of the field. I also noticed that some of the Broncos’ sneakers had a spat-like quality that I found surprising in a football uniform. I mean, I’m all for the return of the spat that seems to be happening, I just question if they go well with football uniforms.

My football fan wasn’t impressed with my fashion insights, either. Sigh.

    • makeityourself

I don’t like the Seahawks as they are in St. Louis’ division and we may never beat them, but I covet deeply one of those silver jackets the players who weren’t active for the game were wearing on the sidelines. Those guys looked great.

      • Spicytomato1

Agreed, they caught my eye, too. Those guys looked stylish and warm. Winners no matter what the outcome of the game!

LOVED that coat on the Queen…… mostly because as fellow “plus size” we often get told to avoid the puffy down coats but clearly, with the right cut and attitude, it can be awesome. Ms. Fleming did look amazing but not too crazy about what was going on with her hair. And Bruno was so entertaining I will give him a pass on the too literal doo-wop homage. And Anthony Kiedis looked fantastic shirtless at over 50. LOVE the leggings….

    • kimmeister

He was shirtless? Wasn’t it like 2 degrees? Wowzers.

      • alyce1213

No, it got warm(er), in the 40s maybe — for just yesterday. Today — snowy and cold again.

        • Bridget Smith

I briefly wondered if it would be utterly ridiculous for me to wear shorts yesterday. (Verdict: yes.) SUCH a nice day!

      • TRSTL

        Divinely shirtless……

      • patticake1601

It was close to 50 yesterday which made me wonder why Latifah was dressed that way.

    • Melanie

renee’s hair is getting a smidge too katie couric, methinks.

  • mlee

What, no comment on the outfits worn by the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

All kidding aside, Renee Fleming and Queen Latifah look gorgeous (and a nice nod to local/New Jersey superstars). And the classic doo-wop look suits Bruno Mars nicely.

    • YoungSally

given the uproar about how men over 50 should not go shirtless on TV….just wait until Iggy Pop decides to do it….and I think he has lived a much harder life.

      • Iggy Pop hardly ever has a shirt on! Even in his car insurance adverts.

        • YoungSally

And that’s how my friend D likes it…..In fact, he would prefer to see fewer clothes on Mr. Pop, Mr. Goldblum and several others of the really skinny men genre.

          • Iggy is also prone to whipping his schlong out on stage, so your friend D is pretty easy to satisfy!

          • boweryboy

I saw Iggy Pop a lifetime ago at the Berkeley amphitheatre – Jesus & Mary chain opened for him. Or at least I think they did since I couldn’t see past the insane amongst of fog that was on stage. Iggy was shirtless and hawked loogies into the audience and crownd surfed. Good times…

And speaking of schlongs, another lifetime ago I saw Love & Rockets at SDSU’s Montezuma Hall. I was sick as a dog and doped up on flu medicine. This little known band called Jane’s Addiction opened for them and halfway through their act the lead singer, who was performing in spandex shorts, rips off the detachable crotch and dances around for half the show with his schlon hanging out. I was certian it was the meds causing me to hallucinate because I must say I was impressed.

And that was the beginning of my unrequited love affair with Perry Farrell.

          • YoungSally

Well now I know why Don likes Iggy so much!!

        • fursa_saida

It’s always terrifying because his torso and his face look decades apart. (Less so recently, I think, but about ten years ago? It was really disconcerting.)

    • notterriblybitter

Flea wore clothes and that’s really all you can ask for.

    • Saturnine

I turned to my husband as Bruno came on and said “I guess less flesh shown this year, no?” Then the RHCP came on. It could have been much worse.

      • xmixiex

anthony kiedis looks amazing! 51 years old, ladies and gentlemen.

  • AC Simons

Renee Fleming has always had amazing taste and style. I bow down to her talent in all things.

    • ballerinawithagun

Renee looked and sounded beautiful. I’m so honored to have her as a customer.

  • MikeW_Vegas

Renee was DIVINE!!!! Best National Anthem EVER!!! THIS is how you do the National Anthem– with style, class, and a fabulous high A at the end! BRAVA!!!

and I must say, Queen Latifah’s America The Beautiful had me sniffling. I’d never really given her much props as a singer, but lady proved she has the chops last night.. (and looked DAMN good doing it!!)

    • Jessica Freeman

She proved that when she did Chicago. Still one of her best movies in my opinion.

      • demidaemon

Agreed. I think she was one of (if not THE) best parts of that film.

  • gabbilevy

As far as I’m concerned, Renee wins everything. Hell, give her the Lombardi trophy, she’s that kickass.

    • MoHub

And her solo in Chicago is a very difficult song to sing. She absolutely mastered it.

  • ralish

I think Queen Latifah could’ve picked a boot with a more flattering height (either shorter or lower) and smoothed out the bottom of her pants a bit. I love the literal doo-wop, and wish I could pull off that superhero cape. Awesome

  • Janet B

Renee Fleming knows how to dress for impact on stage. She was gorgeous.
Queen Latifah’s pants and boots didn’t really go together.

Bruno Mars and the RHCP dressed as I expected, nothing notable or offensive.

  • Claudia Fernandes

bruno mars maybe is honouring michael jackson thriller cover album

  • Judy_S

Renee looked classy–Latifah just looked beautiful. Anyway, glad to see the comments. When I go to the HD opera I am always trying to analyze the presenters’ style and thinking, what would TLo say?

    • lobsterlen

If you ever get a chance go to the Lincoln Center to see the Metropolitan Opera perform. Its magical.

  • boweryboy

I dunno. I think that first look is awful. It reminds me when I was a kid how I would wrap myself in a sheet, cinch it with a belt, and strut around the house pretending I was wearing Halston (it was the ’70s).

Words escape me for the Queen, but at least she looks warm. I give her that.

And Bruno Mars, I seriously thought he was Janelle Monae the first time I saw these pictures.

My partner and I spent three hours at the movies watching The Wolf of Wall Street to avoid the superbowl only to d ourselves thrust into the celebratory mayhem of downtown Seattle when it was over. Feh.

    • xmixiex

      awful? seriously?

      • boweryboy

Yes. Seriously. To me, it looks like she’s wearing a basic black floor length sheath with a giant white sheet safety pinned to it.

It’s all a matter of personal taste, right? This would be a boring website if we all agreed all the time.

        • Sophie

I liked it better when I thought it was a super-sized stole, rather than a coat – which does look like a bed sheet, honestly. It probably looked more striking to the people who sat there and saw her from further afar, whereas Queen Latifah looked like any normal person.

How cold was it there really? There is a rather large contrast between their clothes.

          • mlle

It was warm – I think in the 50s at kickoff, which is around when they were performing.

          • Sophie

Thanks! Though I wouldn’t call that warm, exactly… And I think it’s easier to sing if you’re not tense from the cold?

          • mlle

You’re welcome. It was warm considering that it’s the New York metro area in February… especially now that it’s been snowing for close to 10 hours without stopping.

          • demidaemon

I saw her on TV (one of the few parts of the game I watched) and I thought she looked stunning.

  • Anna

I LOVE the couture superhero cape. I’m amazed at how pristine it is. And the Queen looks stylish (and warm), full stop. Good styling call on cinching that parka with the belt.

  • Kelly

My only quibble with Ms Fleming is the gladiator-shield earrings — not chic enough for that fabulously-chic outfit. You don’t usually think of “elegance” and “over-the-top” as things that go together, but they certainly do here. That coat would be way too much in most venues, but it’s the Exact Right Thing for singing the US National Anthem to millions of viewers from a football stadium with a full military dress-uniform back-up. Glorious.

    • xmixiex

yes, it looked gorgeous with the military dress behind her.

  • It seems weird to choose a dress with all that detail when you literally can’t see the waist pleating from more than a foot away. I like the superhero cape but I object to it being described as a coat.

    • Anna

I didn’t realize it was a coat until I read the caption.

  • beebee10

Renee for the WIN! Look at that coat!

  • SugarSnap108

My only quibble with the Queen is her boot choice — this pair is more shovel-your-sidewalk than stagewear. But she looks great overall.

    Renee is a goddess.

  • Jessica Freeman

Watched zero of Super Bowl and sad I missed Bruno perform. Renee looks amazing. Love it.

    • Sobaika

Try and catch it on youtube! He performed surprisingly well, seeing him live is now on my checklist.

      • alyce1213

He’s now on my ‘to see’ list as well. I thought he was great.

      • Jessica Freeman

I have seen him perform before, so I knew it would be worth watching. The internet is the reason I will never have to delve into giving two shits about things like the Super Bowl again. Just catch it the next day =)

      • Same. I missed my chance to see him here in DC last year. He’s coming through to MD in a couple of months. Have to be there.

  • MilaXX

Loved the ladies and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Bruno. For some reason I like his doo wop style. He does a much better job of it than Justin Timberlake in my opinion. I kind wish you gad include Joe Namath rocking his fur coat.

    • random_poster

Joe walked out and I couldn’t help but smile.

      • StillGary

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s had it from 1977 — when he bought his & her versions with Shannon Tweed.

        • alyce1213

Great bit of celebrity trivia, thanks.

          • StillGary

joking of course — don’t know if they ever crossed paths 🙂

          • alyce1213

But TOTALLY BELIEVABLE! Very, very funny.

        • Saturnine

He was sporting a fur coat during his own Superbowl season, too, right? Sly reference there, Joe.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Joe flexed on all of us and there was nothing we could do but deal.

      • MilaXX

        Old school.

    • Joe was NOT playing. Stunting in that luxurious fur coat with a smile and glint in his eyes.

      • MilaXX

        Pimping like an old G.

  • Tatiana Luján

I think Queen Latifah’s hair is too orange and too light or pale for her, it doesn’t offer her skin any contrast and makes her look yellow.

  • Coco Cornejo

Am surprised that there’s no mention of Joe Namath’s fur coat. I got some buzz in the press. Would have been a bonus to hear the uncles’ take on that.

  • jonnyf8

What did you guys think of the Red Hot Chili Peppers? It was interesting to see Flea with clothes on.

  • nannypoo

I don’t hate you, but I am a shameless fangirl who thinks Bruno Mars is adorable and can do no wrong. I would hate that shiny little jacket on anyone else, but on him, well, I don’t like it much but I can overlook it because, well, it’s him. That’s the best I can do.

Queen Latifah and Renee Fleming are both so gorgeous and so fabulous. I didn’t watch the game so I didn’t see their performances, but I will be googling momentarily. And they both look beautiful here.

    • cheesebomb

Honestly, I thought the little shiny jacket worked here too because I found the contrast in looks and musical styles when he, his band, and the RHCP were all onstage interesting. Watching the band jump around in their little shiny jackets with shirtless Flea and Anthony? I thought the combination was neat.

      • Spicytomato1

I thought so, too. A new century twist on “I’m a little bit country and I’m a little bit rock and roll.”

  • filmcricket

Renee Fleming is an utter goddess. I’ll have to Google her rendition. That cape is amazing. I never realized how much she looks like Katie Couric, though – that’s kind of weirding me out.

  • Kate Andrews

Are you going to address Joe Namath’s fur coat? I just about lost it!

    • xmixiex

it was vile in every way.

      • Jaeda Laurez

Vile? I thought of it more as gloriously tacky.

        • xmixiex

i’m not a fan of skinning animals for the purpose of looking gloriously tacky.

          • Jaeda Laurez

Oh. Well that’s where you and I differ. *shrug*

          • Jaeda Laurez

Oh. I suppose that’s where you and I differ. I’m not opposed to fur. Or leather. I thought it was fun and silly and very Broadway Joe.

          • Alloy Jane

Yet another reason I’m glad I didn’t watch the superbowl. The idea that people can get on board with vaginally and anally electrocuting many animals just to peel them and wear them makes me livid. Or rather, it makes me want to go Buffalo Bill on them. No, actually, that level of cruelty makes me yearn for the alien invasion people are so terrified of when we aren’t eyeball deep in war.

  • marlie

Renee looked gorgeous, and Latifah looked practical and stylish at the same time. And I get that this is Bruno Mars’ thing. I like it. It’s nothing new or creative, but I like it anyway.

  • bxbourgie

I think I missed the memo that Bruno Mars was SUPERBOWL fabulous. So he’s up there with Bruce Springsteen and Prince then? When did that happen?

Now, onto his fashion. I agree it’s quite literal and BORING. There’s a way to do this Motown/James Brown thing and make it fresh for a new generation and this isn’t it. Sorry bout it.

    • filmcricket

Eh, they had the Black Eyed Peas a few years ago. I think after that being the half-time entertainment is kind of like taking over the Tonight Show after Leno: is it really that much of an honour anymore? At least Mars can sing, unlike the BEP.

      • I was going to reply with the BEP comment, too. BEP were absolutely horrendous during their performance. I remember a bunch of Christmas lights were used, too. And, mind you, I like BEP…but only through my earphones or radio. Live? Never been impressed.

    • lobsterlen

It will never happen but I wish they would have one of those marvelous college marching bands. A performance like that is perfect for the stadium venue that last only 15 minutes.

  • mhlmh

Do you ever consider judging the commentators? I don’t know if they get to pick their clothes or if they are told what to wear. In either case, I think there may be room for discussion.

    • mlle

I think they get to choose – just look at Shannon Sharpe on CBS. I think his suits are fabulous, but they’re not the sort of thing a tv personality could be talked into wearing by a stylist.

  • Yolanda13

Nothing about Broadway Joe Namath’s fur parka. My Lord! It’s like he borrowed it from Starsky & Hutch’s Huggy Bear. I cannot!

  • OhSheila

True Bruno Fans/BKs would never hate your opinion. We just don’t care lol. Truthfully, I do prefer them coordinated but current, but it’s the SUPERBOWL. And he’s little, so I get it.

  • d4divine

I agree on all counts…but I love Bruno regardless. It just goes to show that Heidi Slimane’s YSL look ONLY works on wafer thin folks, Bruno is small, but he has a healthy bottom…most of his band members are muscular and not built for the YSL look either.

  • StillGary

Sorry, no. Queen looked great if she were going out for a latte — maybe she could have traded with Namath,

  • unbornfawn

The women looked wonderful. And props to the Queen for showing how to dress stylishly for the weather! Bruno – stage costume, it was fine. The Red Hot Chili Peppers – shirtless – I kinda love them them for that, considering how often we are treated to half naked women during half time.

  • Remember when Madonna came out as She-Ra? Never fails to make me happy.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Sorry, Bruno can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned. Stylistically, that is.

  • judybrowni

Little Richard called, Mars, and he wants his style back.

    • Catiline

What I like about Bruno Mars is that he would probably take that as a compliment.

  • T. Lo. Don’t make me disown you as friends in my head. I am a Bruno Mars stan. Yes, stan. Since this is my first time reading about your take on his style, I’ll overlook this error.

Don’t try it again. *smiles sweetly*

  • Walburga

More coverage of fabulous opera divas, please!

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

What about Joe Namath? I loved his coat! He looked so stoned/drunk/senile, I replayed it over and over.

  • Granny panties

Love queen’s outfit. Perfect for everyday here in canada.

  • Mars Tokyo

I resent Bruno Mars deeply. There is, was, and always will be only ONE Mars– and it’s TOKYO! so there.

  • JauntyJohn

  • Kent Roby

Madame Fleming won the style battle among these three divas as easily as Seattle handled Denver in the game itself.

  • For some reason, all I thought during Bruno Mars’ performance was, “80s sounding songs, performed with 50s/60s styling. Mmk.” Which is to say, the combo could have been interesting but it felt to me like stale retreading of ground Michael Jackson thoroughly explored 30 years ago. But I’m also curmudgeonly about music, so maybe it’s just me already acting a fogey about pop music. KIDS TODAY.

  • Jacob Bowen

Bruno has CLEARLY been studying Matthew McConnaughottie on the Red Carpet!

  • Stoneyjack

Regal, ravishing, resplendent super-soprano Renee Fleming would look fabulous wearing a cotton sack. She is all about class, style, dignity, grace & talent.

  • housefulofboys

I think they all looked just dandy and appropriate for their purpose in the event. Bruno has so much talent and shows so much charisma, and his backup guys are so stellar, that was all I could see. Fabulous show!

And I’ll probably get flack for this, but I did not care for Renee’s version of the national anthem. She has a gorgeous voice and total control of what she sings, and she sang a beautiful aria…but it wasn’t the national anthem. I’ll give her credit for staying on the notes as they were written and not warbling all over the place like some, but she didn’t keep to the timing as it was written, so that it was impossible to sing along with. Which – to my mind – is the whole point of singing the national anthem at the beginning of a sporting event. I think it is thrilling to hear the a beautiful voice lead a whole stadium of people singing it. I always compare newer versions to Whitney Houston singing it at a previous Super Bowl, and no one has done better yet.

    • alyce1213

I gotta disagree with you about Whitney — she did a great job, but she riffed plenty and made a number of tempo changes. It really wasn’t an arrangement that the crowd could sing along to, even in their heads.

Factoid: The melody was lifted from an English drinking song.

    • demidaemon

I’m going to actively disagree with you (heh, actively disagree, what a phrase) and say that I thought that her rendition of the national anthem is one of the best I have heard in a long, long time.

      • housefulofboys

That’s ok, my husband “actively disagreed” with me, too!

  • lobsterlen

And that lady pop stars is how the national anthem is song. I am looking at you Christina, Beyonce and whoever else that has butchered the song with their ridiculous verbal gymnastics and painful expressions like they are giving birth.

    • alyce1213

Preach. Sometimes the yodeling has been painful.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Renee Fleming looked and sounded fabulous, and the Queen did practical proud. No opinion on Bruno.

  • Coolekat

Regarding Bruno Mars, during the first part of the show I thought I was at a 1970 fraternity party.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

      OMG, yes!

Oh, wait, were you saying that like it’s a bad thing?

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Little RIchard has always done it better, Bruno. Try something a little less mimicky next time, mkay?

  • DeniseSchipani

I gasped when I saw how wonderful Renee Fleming looked. I stood and put my hand over my heart for THAT, as much as for garden-variety patriotism.

  • MartyBellerMask

He’s ok. I like his funky stuff better than the ballads. Everyone said he did a great job at the halftime show but I didn’t watch.
Rene’e looks silly. That first picture looks like the “toilet paper bride” game at a bridal shower. But Queen looks awesome.

  • Gatto Nero

Renee Fleming showed them all how it’s done.

  • traceyishere

That belt on Latifah was weird

    • Spicytomato1

I noticed that, too. It looks like someone decided she needed to cinch her waist in and all they could find was a random luggage strap.

  • Sam Smith

Where is the critique of the Peppers, they probably won hands down so you didn’t want to embarrass the rest? I actually enjoyed the Bruno show way more than I thought I would. But more Peppers please.

  • crash1212

I totally loved what Renee Fleming wore – it might be my favorite Vera Wang in a looooong time. The Queen looked great also. However, as much as I find Bruno Mars inoffensive in the area of his talent, his clothes do not do it for me. At all.

  • suzq

Bruno Mars and his band looked a damn sight better than the RHCP.

  • Tânia

Bruno can do no wrong in my book, I love him so much, he could wear anything he likes. Or be naked.

  • Carolyne

As a Denver native, I don’t think the Broncos will ever get it right until they ditch the orange part of their orange and blue. Give me lime green and blue any day. I suspect Denver lost because of their fashion color crisis.
Oh, but I DO like Bruno’s hair.

    • lrober03

That’s how I’ve always picked my teams. Probably at least 50% of the reason I’m a Yankees fan instead of a Mets fan

      • Carolyne

I find shot pants in baseball terribly appealing so I decided a long time ago that the team on the field that has the most players in short pants will win. But hey, I’m a Cubs fan, so that should tell you a lot.

  • lrober03

I love that color blue on Queen Latifah, but I don’t love that her gloves and pants are so matchy matchy with her hair/skin

  • ShaoLinKitten

When McConaughey wore that gold suit, I said, “Give this to Bruno Mars.” I feel a bit vindicated now.

Very typical look for Renée. I think she’s worn some version of that flowing wrap every time I’ve seen her in recital.

THANK YOU, TLo, for covering this sort of thing. Now, whenever I watch ANYthing, I am wondering – would TLo like this dress? And, as usual, I agreed totally, although I think Queen L just has such a gorgeous, genuine smile that she probably gets away with fashion we might pick on much more in others. Signed, the person who danced til she couldn’t breathe anymore while Bruno was performing. There are certain advantages to watching the SuperBowl at home w/ no one but your spouse!

I don’t know about Queen Latifah’s look here in her puffy coat. Granted, Renee Fleming is an impossible act to follow. But when I scroll down past the opera superstar and get to the Queen wearing nothing special, it’s something of a let down.

Love the women’s outfits. As for Mars’ look–although he’s not my favorite, after watching the show, everyone in my family (from age 7 to 92) decided that we all need gold lame jackets. Derivative, perhaps, but well-done nonetheless.

Queen looked gorgeous from the neck up. But that was one hella-unflattering coat…and the almost-skin-tone pants made it look like she had really bulky bare legs from a distance…that was bizarre.
Ms. Fleming was gorgeous (anyone else think she looked like a super-elegant Katie Couric?), and Bruno was adorable (those who didn’t watch, the whole band had matching suits, so it was kind of ‘a thing’). And everyone who performed did a great job–100% success with that is rare!

I totally forgot she was performing but that’s why there’s youtube. Also, I LOVE that she looks like a super hero. I would like to know what is up with these weird arrangements of the National Anthem. Why is 3/4 no longer good enough? Great performance though. And that high note? Pfft, she could held it for five measures while filing her nails and hit one a third higher lol! Queen Latifah needs pants in a color other than skin. I don’t know you, Bruno Mars, and I am not yet ready to care about what you wear.

Sorry but the white cloth in the first photo looks like something you’d tie a dead body in. The other two look okay.

TLo, this sports fan is grateful you thought of us… but no NFL Honors pics worthy of BK-ment this year? OH WELL…
