Something if off about these shapes. I not crazy abut how some of these wide waist bands look on the models & I don’t like the fake furs in this collection. It’s not an awful collection, but I don’t love it as much as some of the others we’ve seen.

      • YoungSally

I like the wide dropped waistbands, but you are right, there is something about the construction that seems off. The waistband on the gold dress is all askew — as if the skirt slit is causing the whole dress to turn.

      • Snailstsichr

I couldn’t figure out whether a few dresses skewed oddly of if the models were caught weirdly in mid step. It was somewhat disconcerting.

On the other hand, my husband was looking over my shoulder and was quite smitten with the gold number that opened and closed the pictures of the collection. He thought the fabric was especially lovely and used well in the design. He rarely comments on what flits across my screen, so I was impressed.

      • Kayceed

I agree – many of his proportions are slightly off – not terribly, but just enough to make them not work.

    • understateddiva

      Instant Marchesa, just add tulle.

    • TrixieConQueso

Gold lame dress with black faux fur shrug – get in my closet! Rawr.

    • BobStPaul

Hate the use of fake fur but otherwise there are some really gorgeous pieces in the collection. Having said that, I can’t believe how the cut of the purple suit appears to add 60 pounds or more to the model.

      • schadenfreudelicious

        If it’s making a 6foot, size 0 model look wide, we mere mortals don’t stand a chance…

    • Daisy Walker

Some of the fabrics look cheap, no? And, like MilaXX said, the shapes are odd. I do like the red dress in the last row.

      • Kent Roby

The red dresses are especially “Marchesa” to me.

    • Margaret Grace

That gold, black and silver streaky-stripy-ish one is TO DIE FOR. I love it so so much.
Also, TLo – I just wanted to let you know that although my closet is pretty much entirely to J.Crew, I’ve realized recently that I’ve learned so much about couture fashion from you! You have no idea how good I feel when a friend comments on a magazine cover or editorial and says, “What a weird dress!” or, “How pretty is that!”, and I’m able to say “Oh, that? It’s that bonkers Gucci bird dress F/W 2013.” “Oh, that checker-board dress? It’s Louis Vuitton, darling! Let me show you how somehow Fan Bing Bing and Kristen Stewart (one a fashion goddess, the other a fashion WTF) can both look absolutely fab in pieces from that collection!”.
For a moment, I can pretend I’m Miranda Priestly. It’s awesome. Thanks, Uncles!

      • MK03

Seriously. When I shop or put together an outfit now, I’ll catch myself and say “put down the bridesmaid shoes” or “the red purse will tie this all together.”

      • quiltrx

Me three! I may look like a schlump at work, but I’ve got my fashion street cred when the subject comes up…all thanks to our Uncles!

    • lalahartma

      Shiny!

    • Pennymac

Capes! Furs! Feathers! Sparkles! Fosse, Fosse, Fosse!

      • Gatto Nero

All we need are jazz hands.

    • sleepycat

“Hi. Reem Acara? Blache Devereaux, here. I’d like to purchase the entire collection, for a young and sexy size-6 32-year old.”

    • KateShouldBeWorking

For a collection that’s clearly designed to be pretty (rather than edgy or whatever), there is a surprising number of unflattering silhouettes.

    • Danielle

I think the red pieces are the best part. Pass on the rest.

    • Dagney

It’s like their motto is “Must Have Shiny Object.”

    • NMMagpie

The striped gold and black gown: best of the collection.

    • AnneElliot

Wow, that’s a whole lotta shiny. And is it just me, or does the extremely low neckline on the red dress make the model’s neck look incredibly long?

      • kimmeister

That, plus her shoulders are slopey and I think her neck really is longer than average.

    • Gatto Nero

Though the aim is luxury, some of these textiles look cheap. It’s all a bit overdone, and we’ve seen similar designs before.
It doesn’t feel fresh, or rich.

    • smayer

This reminds me of Laura Bennett’s PR finale collection.

    • marlie

Some gorgeous pieces. The only problem is that I feel like I’ve seen a lot of this before. Still, I really like this collection.

    • Ashleigh

There will be a lot of this at the Oscars

      • decormaven

        The gold gown for sure.

    • Guest

My first impression: it’s like humpty dumpty and the queen of hearts had a baby. Second impression: that twisted love child has some good ideas.

    • quiltrx

Yes, please! (I’m sure those are faux furs, right?) Loving both capes, especially the one in the small pictures.
And I LOVE the last gown in the small pics! The blush pink lining is a really nice touch.

    • hmb

      I’m in 60% on this.

    • Mi

      YAWN.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Nothing new, and it makes me think tailoring is not really his thing (that purple suit *shudder*). But there are some very pretty pieces that we will definitely be seeing on the red carpet and I like the branch motif – the black dress with the fur collar and silver branches I love, but for everyday wear I’ll take the black sweater.

      • kimmeister

Reem Acra is female. I get her name confused all the time with Naeem Khan though, who is male. I think it’s the double e’s.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I just fall into a trap of assuming all designers are male! Bad feminist! Bad! Thank you for letting me know.

    • MzzPants

      Meh. Feels dated.

    • Mrs. Julien

    • Diego!

STRIKING! Love this collection. My favorite so far! :D

    • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

I expected to love this collection and I feel it’s just kind of meh. I do love that rich purple color but as a whole it feels been there, done that.

    • javajunkie

      DEB circa 1991.

    • KinoEye

Eighth from the bottom. Line that and send it off to Lupita. It’s her Oscar dress.

    • Jackie4g

Pretty, feminine and mostly wearable. Nice fabrics, love the purple but the purple jacket doesn’t need to be double breasted AND have all those pockets. No one seems to edit these days.

    • Imasewsure

Love the last few gowns and that gorgeous short gold dress but the rest is way too 80′s for me (mostly the shoulders I guess which is straight out of Dynasty)

    • kimmeister

I really like the cream blouse with the black and gold vertical ripples. (Not sure if it’s a separate blouse and skirt, or one piece.)

    • LeelaST

The blossom-patterned looks are stunning, gorgeous collection in general. Hate, hate, hate the use of fur/feathers.

    • boldprint

I’m seeing a lot of Kruger and Theron in these gowns.

    • colorjunky

I see a Jlo and a Bullock too

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Lovely. Two makes me wish desperately that I could pull off a high neckline, fourteen is a work of art. I’d love to see it on Elizabeth Banks.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

I have reservations, too. Many of these looks read as “Grandma Does Vegas”, non?

    • LJCdoc

Am I losing my damn mind, or does the fourth one from the bottom look like it’s bottom half is made partly of shower curtain liner?

    • save_the_hobbit

      Besides the gowns…..nah.

    • ShaoLinKitten

The red dress… the way the illusion netting goes down so low, the model’s neck looks unnaturally long. It reminded me of the scene in Alice in Wonderland where she has a snake neck. I’m sure the model is a normal human being, so that dress is a big NO. Also, the shimmery numbers all had a very Krystle Carrington/Alexis Carrington Colby look to me.

    • demidaemon

I’m pretty certain that these are all drag queen clothes, possibly stolen from some well-to-do NY queen.

    • lrhoff

      These are Oscar-worthy dresses…..lovely.

    • Nikki

I don’t understand many of the reactions… I always think Reem Acra does a great collection (maybe my horsey set bias), but I am really drooling over this collection. All of these models look like confident, alluring women- and I swear it shows in their faces too. I’m sure they were coached in some way to not look like they were pissed off like in every other runway, but here they look pleased. I want at least half of this collection.

    • ankali

Wow. Not wild about the entire collection, but the pieces that work? Work like gangbusters. Some of these are going to be amazing on a ladystar who can handle high impact NOT YOU AMY ADAMS.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

How did that boxy, ill-fitting, mother of the bride purple mess end up in this collection?
