Rashida Jones in Prada at the “Cuban Fury” London Premiere

Posted on February 07, 2014

We’re pretty bleary-eyed from last night’s NYC signing and subsequent celebratory dinner with our publishing peeps, so maybe that’s why the only thing we could manage when we looked at these pictures was one not-quite-a-word syllable:

Rashida Jones attends the premiere of “Cuban Fury” in London in a Prada dress paired with Kurt Geiger pumps, and jewelry by H. Stern (earrings and ring) and EF Collection (ring).

Prada Spring 2014 Collection

We don’t mind the print. In fact, we think we could like it under the right circumstances. Granted, it’s always dicey when one chooses to wear a gigantic face on one’s body, but  boldness is what Prada’s all about and we wouldn’t have it any other way. But that is the most fucked-up-looking bust we’ve seen in some time. It’s like Prada came up with a new and exciting way to make a woman’s chest look weird. The way the cups (and boy, is that ever a loose use of that term) are spaced so far apart is bad enough, but the way they’re peeking out over the dress makes them look like they’re embarrassed. And darling, we don’t care how fabulous the print is, no dress should make a woman’s boobs feel embarrassed.  We’re old-fashioned that way.

Bless her heart. We love that she’s got a funky, risk-taking aspect to her style, but she almost never gets it right, does she? Also: Girl, we’re pretty sure that’s Not Your Eye Makeup. She looks like a very tired ten-years-older version of herself. Also-also: greasy, messy hair. Rashida, go home.

  • That’s a beach cover-up, not a dress. How is it even staying up? The movie looks like fun though.

    • deelup

Exactly. It looks like an awesome, funky beach towel wrapped around her with a triangle bikini top sticking out.

      • Monabel

You are right. Although I still kinda like this.

    • KinoEye

That’s an excellent question. Double-sided tape? Sheer willpower? Meh. Looks like the cat-ear boob trend is here to stay. I like cat ears as much as the next person, but I question their use as a design element.

      • MoHub

There dress has clear plastic straps.

        • KinoEye

Really? That would make a great deal more sense than my other guesses.

        • decormaven

          Shudders…. clear plastric straps….

      • I suspect she’s just holding it up with her underarms. That’s why she has her arms clenched by her sides the whole time.

        • KinoEye

If she is, that’s sad. Surely her stylist could have found a dress that didn’t have her pressing her arms down for dear life!

      • MzzPants

There’s a chance that the dress is built over a corset or bustier. I can’t see any plastic straps with my admittedly aging eyesight.

      • MzzPants

And I was just about to type, ‘those aren’t cups, those are cat ears.’ Good call!

  • Mothra

I’m not comfortable with those orange shoes with that dress.

  • Judy_S

Still, I applaud her for eschewing the horrible green and orange thing that is supposed to hide the problematic top bits.

  • MilaXX

Indeed. I actually prefer the over embellished version the model is wearing because what Rashida has on looks unfinished. I have no idea what is happening from the neck up.

    • demidaemon

I’m with you. It seems quite bare. The actual “design” of the dress is not helping.

  • jspark

Did anyone else see spaghetti straps where there were none?

    • aeb1986

Wow, good call! It’s like an optical illusion!

    • @Biting Panda

Ah ack! Yes!! Does that mean she’s just holding this little towel up by squeezing her arms down? “Whut” is more and more fitting here.

      • scoobynacks

It looks like she’s wearing a pop art beach towel over a green bikini. That’s ‘just came from the beach’ hair. All she needs to complete the look is flip flops.

        • rs1201

Hey single digit IQ mo ron,
you responded to my post about the girl who died being given soda by her parents. You called me “rude” for telling my brother and his wife that it was wrong for them to eat grilled steak and their kids fish sticks.
Here’s my answer for you.My husband and I raised two sons to adulthood and into highly successful careers. One is a successful attorney on Wall Street and the other one is a breast cancer surgeon. Both my husband and I share the same ideas about children raising. They have to be treated as equals and very obviously we’ve been quite successful at it.
Mo ronic imb3cil3. You have backward third world child rearing ideas….I can imagine what your kids are!

    • Jessica Freeman

Yes, and I had to go and scroll back up and….that girl has more tupee tape on her tits than I care to know about.

    • Noah

Oh, Jesus. Yes! Phantom spaghetti straps!

    • SugarSnap108

I sure did. It’s never good when your hair is giving the illusion of spaghetti.

    • HM3

      Cat-eye boobs strike again!

    • Anna

Same. I was expecting to find those “clear” ones that come with strapless bras.

    • Danielle

Holy crap, I had to scroll back up.

    • jw_ny

I did press my nose up against the monitor in hopes of seeing straps…any kind…is that?…nope. I’d like this more if there were some, and if the seam didn’t cut right across her chest.

  • @Biting Panda

Why does she hate her boobs? Did they have a fight? Are feelings hurt? Do you think they’ll ever make up? How do you come back from such a public shaming? Maybe they’ll go into couples counseling. Godspeed, Rashida and Rashida’s breasts, you’re in our thoughts.

  • Julie Ree

That dress is wearing her. And eating her boobs.

  • crash1212

I must be in a really good mood today because I’m not hating any of this. I actually love the dress, which is unusual for me because Prada usually bugs, and I prefer her version over the runway Halloween version. That shade of green up top is beautiful with her skin and eyes. I love the pop of orange at her feet and I think her hair is pretty, shiny and tussled. She also seems to be sportin’ the “clean face” craze successfully because of some definition for eyes and lips. My only quibble is I wish she was selling it a bit more, but that’s not her style.

    • @Biting Panda

      “Good mood”. Uh-huh. I’ll have what you’re having. ; )

    • Cheryl

Way, way better than the runway version!

  • MarieLD

    Kitty cat ears.

  • Jessica Freeman

Rashida does seem to have the personality and vibe for these funky outfits, but she mostly looks completely uncomfortable in them. The shoe choice was all sorts of wrong, as was the dress, I suppose.

  • KinoEye

The cups are embarrassed. Brilliant. My not-quite-a-word when I saw this getup was “muhh.” It’s too early.

  • nannypoo

I like it. It’s strange but I think she looks cute. The only thing I don’t like is that random collection of cheap looking rings.

  • Tatiana Luján

I like the hair and the makeup.
The shape of that dress, on the other hand, is a crime.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Yes, the shape of the dress is awful. But I do love the print.

  • clatie

further proof that Prada is waging a covert war on women.

    • kimmeister

I’m pretty sure the Minnie Mouse boobs dress that Michelle Dockery wore recently is from this same collection. Now the Minnie Mouse boobs are looking fabulous in comparison to these.

      • demidaemon

It’ amazing how we’ll give a pass to one design element when we see what could have been.

  • Diego!

Honey, you look swollen. And THAT is NO GOOD. I think you should reconsider wearing shapeless dresses and also your hair… what is that? You look as if you just woke up and put on anything that was on hand. This is a mess.

  • SugarSnap108

The makeup is fine – I don’t think it ages her by a decade. But I agree on all other judgements, uncles.

  • HM3

Respectfully disagree. The bust looks fine to me; the dress is delightfully whacky and youthful (as is her hair), and the shoes are neat. I really like this.

    • jspark

      Are you Rashida’s assistant?

      • HM3

🙂 No, though I would love to work as her stylist. Even if this was a hit, girl’s got some misses lately. The daughter of QUINCY FREAKIN’ JONES has got to have more spunk to her style than she’s had lately!

        • jspark

  • Lynn Landry

The original top part of the dress would have looked better. Instead it looks like she wrapped herself in a towel.

  • Monabel

The top doesn’t bother me, it is not heavy or crass and provides a rather pretty neckline.

  • It’s such a funky dress, though the cat ears make no sense but without them it’s just a cool beach towel. I guess all I like here is the print. I hate hate hate hate the bridesmaid’s satiny shoes with it. Maybe a funkier shoe would have brought it closer to working.

  • cocohall

I like Rashida and am impressed that she is the daughter of two famous people and yet seems to have successfully forged her own path. So I will confine my comments to the fact that she has very nice looking knees. The rest of this is just tin-foil hat crazy. Oops, I let that slip out. Damn. Snarky is hard to suppress.

    • Yes, she has lovely knees. And a beautiful smile.

    • boweryboy

After reading your post I had to look up her parents. I had NO CLUE she was Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton’s daughter.

    • Imasewsure

“tin-foil hat crazy” is a fantastically descriptive phrase! Brava Cocohall!!

      • cocohall

Thanks! I wish I had invented the phrase! I’m stealing from a friend of mine. I think we all should wear our tin-foil hats sometimes, but just not on the red carpet. With cameras everywhere.

  • Anne

“No dress should make a woman’s boobs feel embarrassed.” Perfection.

  • Janet B

    Put on a coat girl.
It’s cold and raining, why wear a silly summer dress?

  • VioletFem

I don’t hate this as much as I do the runway version. She got rid of all the glittery froo-fraw and opted for a simpler neckline. I’m not convinced that the really spaced out cat ears was the best way to go, but the dress still looks pretty good on her. Although, I do agree that her hair and make-up are not great-looking.

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

    It’s those cat ears again…

  • boweryboy

If the boob flaps were replaced with a simple band of fabric, and she paired it with some cool sandals (flats, not heels), and it was the middle of summer this would be a werq for me.

I’m really loving the print. It translates well to ready-to-wear because the runway version is a hot steaming mess.

    • marlie

Those mods might make me dislike it a little less. And yes, *summer.*

  • Marina Togneri

    I think she looks great!

  • Anna

I’m sending Rashida the bill for my vision care expenses.

  • marlie

This is a whole lot of “NO.” I dislike everything about the dress – the print, the cat-ear bust, and the way they’re spaced far apart. On the positive side, it’s not as bad as the version on the model.

I appreciate how she tried to pull out one of the colors from the print, but these orange shoes weren’t the way to do it. Her makeup is non-existent, and that’s some “I just got out of bed” hair.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I like the version that Rashida is wearing much more than the runway model-that version, to me, is aggressively ugly. Then again, I’ve never been a great fan of Prada, either.

  • GillianHolroyd

Several people in the background are sporting umbrellas. Maybe her hair is just wet? Being generous here.

  • Zombiepeep

Her hair always looks dirty and greasy. Sad, as she’s a lovely woman.

  • Erica Woods Tucker

The model looks sooo much better.

  • paintedfish

    it’s more kitty-boobs

  • bertkeeter

Not sure why that dress needs to be strapless…put straps on it and call it a sun dress!

  • Ann VerWiebe

And, thus begins Prada’s year of giant heads.

  • traceyishere

Is that a manicure or did she dip her fingers in tar?

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Her face is saying loud and clear “yeah, sorry guys, I forgot I had a red carpet today”.

  • Imasewsure

I don’t know… I think it’s cute but looks unfinished and a little bit boxy… I think I could get behind this look between April and October…I like it but don’t love it. The hair is definitely weird though.

Runway version = fab!, Rashida altered version = WTF?

  • Sofia Bentivoglio

i love those shoes on her. the color and style are perfect for her. i want orange pumps now.

  • ShaoLinKitten

I love her as an actress and think she is gorgeous. That said, Rashida Jones is a black hole of fashion. Everything she wears just looks horrid, even if it should be fab. She needs to hire a good stylist.

  • sagecreek

    Well, I like the shoes.

    • tinyredlocks

That is exactly what I said.

  • AnniNoone

She looks like she thinks she looks ridiculous. Even when you do look ridiculous (as now), you’ve still got to sell it, dear. Then feed your stylist to sharks.

  • another_laura

    My one-syllable-not-quite-a-word is “yeeps.”

  • decormaven

Isn’t this from the same collection as the dress Lady Mary wore a week or two ago?

  • fashion4ever

I think we can blame her bad hair on the rain. If he look behind her we can see a man holding up an umbrella. This is definitely ‘i’m under the rain and didn’t want to be covered up by an umbrella so i’m getting wet’ hair

  • Hetha Innis

This is NOT Polar Vortex appropriate. AT ALL.

  • LambeeBaby

The print would have made a fab pencil skirt but as it is, it looks like she pulled her beach towel up over her bikini. She also has the beach hair to complete the look. I wish she would let the bangs grow out. Her hair is just too limp to pull it off.

  • elzatelzabelz

    Whut? Why? How? Nuh Unh.

  • Lilak

What on earth is her hair drenched in??
C.mon, RC people, no matter what else is going on with your clothing, shoes, etc. please have the good sense to show up with clean (or clean-looking) hair.

  • Gatto Nero

How can someone so beautiful get it so wrong every time?

  • suzq

The runway version was so interesting. It’s too bad she didn’t wear that.

  • jw_ny

love the print and at first glance it is eye catching, but yeah, upon closer look that bust is weird and not flattering! I’m trying to figure out how it’s actually staying up since there are no straps nor is the dress fitted around her mid section. Looks like it gets tight at her arm pits…idk. And, yeah again…that hair is a mess!

  • SierraDelta

Freckles! She has freckles! And they’re cute! Really, really cute!

    That’s all I’ve got.

  • Jacob Bowen

On the model the woman’s face looks like it is saying “Get me out of here!” I don’t understand the orange harness, two watches and LEG WARMERS with a mid-thigh length dress and heels?!?!? If it is warm enough to wear that dress WHY do you need the leg warmers?

  • Dagney

I really want to like her style, but, it seems like….i don’t know. She has the wrong stylist or something. She always looks halfway done. In this photo, she is wearing this aggressive dress and aggressive shoes, but her hair and makeup read as casual morning beachwear.

  • I’m pretty sure her hair has been rained on and wind-blown rather than actually being dirty. Otherwise, “whut” pretty much sums it up for me, too.

  • KT

“no dress should make a woman’s boobs feel embarrassed” — amen. Tit-ular pride, bitches!

  • quiltrx

    Beach cover-up.

  • d4divine

Love her, but she has terrible taste in clothes. That is all.

  • sekushinonyanko

If her hair and makeup were better, it might be okay, in spite of the wacky boobs. But they’re not, and really her hair just points a big, greasy arrow towards the bust issues…which is unfortunate.

  • Pterodactyl111

    I love those shoes though.

  • anotherkate

I…like the shoes? Sorry, that’s all I’ve got.

  • Hayley

    Pretty rings.

  • andi56

oy vey. That’s all I got.

  • demidaemon

Yeah, no. That would be a cool towel, but it is so not a dress.

  • kathrineb

This kind of look really calls for a short chic hair cut, or hair tied back at the very least. Because it is such a statement dress long greasy hair makes it look bad!

  • Congratulations, your team made it look worse than the runway. Go home, indeed.
