Oh, HELL, no. She’s looked so fierce all season, and with one swoop of Stella’s Evil Wand, she went straight back to Matron.

    • @Biting Panda

      So very MOB.

      • sagecreek

But I did coax our resident downvoter out of hiding, so yay me?

        • Glam Dixie

I’m gonna up vote you just to spite them. (And because I agree with you)

        • @Biting Panda

Stella McCarney has no stans, only celebrities who never read The Emperors New Clothes. My guess, someone accidentally clicked down, instead of up. Notice there is not the rash of down votes on all the other comments? Usually the delusional go on a full on clicking spree.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I saw it as pro-Oprah rather than pro-Stella. Or maybe it was the HELL?

        • kittenwithaquip

S/He is probably on Stella’s marketing team. Stella def seems to adored by fashion insider-y people who maybe like Stella herself or her vibe, more than the aesthetics of the brand.

    • kittenwithaquip

I feel like Oprah is one of those women who thinks super-fitted = slimmer. I’d never really noticed that before, so maybe it’s just me or a recent thing. I would like to see her try something flowy or relaxed. I do think her hair helps take this look away from full-on matron, but the satin bow, heavy lace and traditional jewelry all work to skew it MOB.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

That was a down-vote-accident with the iPad!! How do I take it back? Serves me right for trying to see who the original down- voter could be! What the antidote?! Antivote?

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Love the hair, love the colour, not in love with the skirt, sash or matchy accessories.

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Hair looks a little bit like she drove over with the top down. I’m loving her big curly hair these days, but this looks a little unintentional.

  • @Biting Panda

Leave it to Stella to fuck up Oprah’s nearly perfect red carpet season.

  • sugarkane105

The hair’s not working for me here. It looks like it lost some of its shape and turned to frizz.

  • hughman

I love Oprah’s “Diana Ross Performs In Central Park” hair. It’s all “I don’t care about no rain, bitches! Say what you want, I AM A DIVA!”

    • JauntyJohn

“If you love me, leave the Park now…!”

    • decormaven

“It took me a lifetime to get here, and I’m not going anywhere.”

    • vitaminC

I thought Chaka Kahn, but this too.

  • hunt3002

Bosoms. All I see are bosoms.

    • Guest

I’ve always wondered why Oprah didn’t have the girls reined in years ago. Hell, she has access to the best plastic surgeons in the world. I speak from personal experience when I say that it is a GAME-CHANGER. Wish I had done it years before.

      • demidaemon

I don’t see a p[articular problem with the size. My problem is that the high-waisted skirt, belt, and bodice details draw your eye straight too them. All I see is awesome hair and BOSOMS.

      • Kent Roby

Re: “Access to the best plastic surgeons”: I wouldn’t be surprised if she gave each audience member their own personal plastic surgeon for one of her “Oprah’s Favorite Things” Christmas shows.

    • YoungSally

And the grey-ish lining/netting whatever it is isn’t doing her complexion any favors — I wonder if that bra is truly Oprah-colored or just some random color for all-persons of color.

  • KinoEye

Sigh. The hair is everything. The dress is nothing. Love the candids of Dame Helen in the background.

  • Sarah

So many nearly-matchy but not quite burgundies. I am sorry, O, but this one ain’t workin’ for me. (Love your hair, still, though! Please don’t smite me!)

  • Susan Velazquez

This is SO mother of the bride.

  • Judy_S

I think she looks good. The dress is a bit boring but it leaves the fireworks to her hair and face. Could be worse.

  • Danielle

I absolutely love her hair. Not even Stella can ruin this for me.

  • Alyssa

    Stella strikes again. *shakes fist*

  • Glam Dixie

How does Stella do it? It’s a gift to be so consistently off at all times. This is a no.

  • marlie

It’s a nice dress, but it’s not perfect. The bottom of the lace section hits her bust at a weird place. That seam needs to be firmly UNDER the bust. The color is great, and the sash thingy had the potential to do wonderful things to accentuate her figure, but it too is a little off. This is a miss, considering we know Oprah can do so much better. And I love Oprah’s hair – LOVE it – but I wish she’d do something different with it now and then.

    • jen_vasm

I don’t know why there had to be a sash at all. Satin can be a dicey proposition, but maybe just a band placed lower than right under the bust might’ve been a better move. The fussy lace + the tied sash is a bridge too far.

    • Sofia Bentivoglio

you are so right about the bottom of the lace section. it’s too high up and makes her bosom looked cramped, which is distracting and makes her bosom look even bigger. as an equally well-endowed woman, i generally try not to make them look bigger. give those curves the additional bodice inches downward that they need to bloom!

  • JauntyJohn

Someone looks a wee bit jet lagged.
Personally I wouldn’t call this a ‘swing-and-a-miss’ — she got a piece of the ball here.
I do love the color… the overall look doesn’t go far enough or something. Needs some zing to pull away from MoB turf.

    • demidaemon

      It’s definitely a clip.

  • lamamu

LOVE the synergy between the hair and the bodice: earthy, fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously. Usually can’t stand Stella McCartney, but this is a case of the right dress + the right wearer.

  • lunchcoma

Something about it makes me think of a mother of the bride dress. I think it’s the lace and the sash. Anyway, she still looks decent because Oprah can get away with a lot on pure confidence, but this could have been so much better.

  • Alfred Cox

Its still SO ODD to talk about Oprah’s fashion choices. Its like smiting a religious icon or something. I think she looks really good. People are talking about how fab her face and makeup is, I think its the worst part of this look. The dress is nice. I like the widow’s weeds on the top. Its a bit boring, but its very Oprah: no nonsense but still very diva. Low key diva lite this time, but still.

  • JP

    No. Just a resounding no.

  • jw_ny

Saw on tv earlier today Oprah having 2 men sewing her seam under her bust…a wardrobe malfunction on the RC. Stella’s head will surely roll for that. :)

    • FrigidDiva

I think that’s the internal dialog going on in the first picture, and she was tapping her finger on that clutch thinking of all the ways she would make someone PAY for that mistake.

    • MilaXX

She posted that on Instagram. I thought they were sewing her into the dress pre-show

      • jw_ny

you’re right…I guess I wasn’t fully paying attention when I saw it. just googled, she posted a short vid on instagram…

Oprah jokingly narrated the short clip: ‘It’s an hour to go and this is
Raj and Giuseppe who are literally stitching me into my gown for the red
        carpet. Hello Stella McCartney!”

        • MilaXX

I’m playing catch up and watching my recording of the BAFTA’s now. Apparently she had only gotten in the day before and that was her first fitting so the guys were sewing her in making last minute adjustments the day of.

          • demidaemon

What a great job Stella did there! *rolls eyes*

  • FrigidDiva

That bodice and that bow-type belt thing are just hideous. I think the color is fabulous on her, and the skirt fits well but the rest of it should just be burned.

  • xmixiex

So sweet that she threw Stella a bone in London… Ugh.

  • Ashleigh

My mother calls this hair “dragged thru hedge backwards”. I think she looks good, tho. The skirt is a little bleh

  • butterflysunita

    Gorgeous color on her.

  • muelonil

I actually think this is a pretty dress but something about the way this fits her (probably the placement of where the bodice ends) so all I notice when I look at it is boobs.

  • MilaXX

I like the dress, but the hair is verging close to closer to God territory. It’s really big.

  • Akemi

    :(

  • Sabin

The first thing that popped into my head with the very first photo was that she looks like a troll doll. Scroll down ws a bit better, but still…not a good look. She’s too Oprah to elicit images like that.

  • Dennis

I know she probably does not care about it, but if I had her money, I would do something about those bags.

    • scraig096

I remember her discussing having a true fear of surgery on an episode of Oprah where she talked about having her batwings done. She was pretty candid about it.

  • lobsterlen

Its a bit mother of the bride.
What I find off about it all is the color of the sheer fabric under the bodice. Its this odd grey black cement colored material.

  • bouionice

Why does anyone ever wear Stella McCartney? if she weren’t the spawn of a Beatle she wouldn’t even have a career. This thing is straight out of an episode of Say Yes to the Dress – MOB Edition.

    • PastryGoddess

Well she did make these cool pants that one time

    • Courtney

Some of the tennis wear she does for Caroline Wozniacki is actually quite good. Maybe she needs to stick to actual sports wear.

  • PastryGoddess

Even Oprah can’t save Stella McCartney from herself

Also, is there only one lining color in the whole world? You make a dress for Oprah and you can’t even get the lining color right?

    • cocohall

I know, out of all of it, the color of the lining seems the most egregious mistake. It just looks tacky. We’ve all watched Project Runway and the dash through Mood. I can’t believe that the lining section in any fabric store has just one bolt of fabric labeled “Flesh Colored: One color suits nearly no one.”

      • PastryGoddess

I’m pretty sure if someones flesh was that color, they’d be dead…or a zombie

        • cocohall

That’s pretty funny, actually. Zombie fashion. Is that what our girl Stella was hoping to achieve you think?

          • demidaemon

Zombie fashion is WAY cooler than this.

  • VicD

Just focus on the diamond earrings. They are real, and she owns them.

  • Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

    I think she looks fabulous.

  • d4divine

I love you Lady O. Change nothing!!

  • Tracy_Flick

Love: her hair, the silhouette, the color, the makeup.
Hate: matchiness, weird lining color. I see all the BKs went straight to MOB and I agree.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Stella McCartney does mother of the bride now? Why, Oprah, why?

  • Dan_In_NYC

Stella strikes again… but fair credit, we can’t blame Stella for that mess of hair.

I believe Oprah was always a bit of a diva (understatement), but she’s in diva overdrive more and more as the years of the Oprah Show are farther behind us. This is feeling very Disney Evil Queen to me for some reason.

  • Aurumgirl

Stella’s rising victim count. All the money in the world can’t protect you from her.

  • Just Me

That is Texas sized hair…me thinks her hair gay took one look at the dress and went for distraction.

    • formerlyAnon

      Plausible. Very, very plausible.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Matchy-matchy shoes and boring-ass diamond earrings?

    OPRAH. NO.

  • crash1212

Her hair is giving me life! I love this color for her and I think she looks great. It’s not my most favorite of her recent looks, but I don’t hate it.

  • kat89

No. Not the dress that makes her look stumpy and dumpy, not the Diana Ross Hair, not the dull (on her) color. Just no.

  • Dany

    NOPRAH

  • alyce1213

I’m mostly bothered by that the lining is too light and the sheer black illusion over it looks odd. Overall, it’s very MOB.
Love her big hair (NOT with this dress) and those earrings – damn, those are some big diamonds.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Oh sweetie, no. That’s a great color on you, but no.

  • The Versatile Chef

I’ve always wondered why Oprah didn’t have the girls reined in years ago. I mean, she has access to the best plastic surgeons in the world.

I speak from personal experience when I say that reduction surgery is a GAME-CHANGER. Wish I had done it years before.

  • icm

While all the red carpet girls borrow or are loaned their jewels Miss O. owns hers. She has been wearing these stunning earrings for years. Does anyone know if there is story behind them. She has worn them on the red carpet many times as well as on her show. She looks beautiful though her hair is a bit crazy.

  • melanie0866

She looks tired. If I was there, I would go up to her and say, “Is everything OK?”

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Poor dear looks like she’s been crying! I would too if I broke my winning streak with a Stella McCartney.

  • antonialee

So David’s Bridal! Just say no to Stella!

  • Dagney

    M.O.B

  • quiltrx

At first glance it’s not bad…for Stella (groan). But as I look more…it’s a great color, but it makes her look like she has NO waist (or even torso!), and the hair is a little too cray.

  • Clash D

Scary as hell. She looks like an orgress from Nox. Don’t really hate the dress (shocking cos, well it’s a Stella McUgg), I think the problem here is styling.

  • boweryboy

She looks fabulous but that hair is Out. Of. Control. Did she ride over in a convertible at 90mph?

  • formerlyAnon

Not awful, but the color and lace combine to skew, as has been noted, Mother-of-the-Bride.

In other news, like the glimpse of Ms. Mirren’s do from the side. Makes me feel better about the moments when I look at my hair and think “it really ISN’T as fab as I think, is it? Just Another Middle Aged Mom.” I still like that hair for her (and mine) but just a reminder that it’s all about the angle, sometimes.

  • Jessica Freeman

The shape is nice for her, but the color is not the best. The top is not flattering to her. And her hair is cuh-razy.

  • Constant Reader

Leave it to Stella to put Oprah in the first outfit she’s worn this season that makes me believe she’s 60. Up to now Oprah has looked ageless.

  • EEKstl

She looks extremely uncomfortable so the dress is a fail for that reason alone.

  • suzq

If the skirt were a bit more flowing and the wearer a bit less Oprah, this would be a Stella McCartney I could endorse. And by a bit “less Oprah” I’m not talking about the size of her body, but the size of her personality. It’s kinda boring and fades her into the background. And yes…mother of the bride.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

    Oprah needs a new bra.

  • Sweetvegan

This isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty. I think a lot of the negativity is from people who automatically hate anything with Stella’s name on it. I just wish they had changed the lining under the lace to a color that more closely matched Oprah’s skin tone. too often, these linings are supposed to be close to the wearer’s skin tone, and they assume that a white person is going to be wearing it, so anyone with coloring darker than a sheet of paper looks wrong in it.
