Naomie Harris in Gucci at the 2014 BAFTA Awards

Posted on February 17, 2014

She’s showing a healthy amount of leg and chest area, but she’s one of those gals who knows how to do that and make it look elegant. On a different lady, this dress would come off quite a bit more sexed up than this:

Naomie Harris attends the 2014 BAFTA Awards in London in a Gucci gown paired with a Rauwolf clutch, Christian Louboutin pumps, and Cartier Jewelry.

Which isn’t to say she doesn’t look hot. She absolutely does. But poise, polish and bearing go a long way, y’know? We do think the 3/4 length sleeve comes off like an odd pairing with that neckline and slit. And we think her hair looks a little puffy and mushroom-y. But those are nitpicks. We seriously love the look. The color’s amazing on her.

We worry about her feet, though. No way in hell that’s anything but painful.

oh my, what a sexy leg ending in a sexy stiletto. this is the first shoe with clear details that i ever liked. this woman is gifted at taking would-be trashy items and making them elegant sexy. there is no way to fake or teach that. it’s in her DNA.

    • carpediva

I know! Her arch is so perfect it looks like Barbie’s used to when I dressed her up in heels! Agree with the Uncles, tho- that has to hurt, right? (She said sadly, looking down at her own Fred Flinstone feet.)

  • Danielle

    Now that’s a leg slit!

    • carpediva

Or, that’s how you WORK a leg slit! 😀 (Yes, looking at you, Angelina.)

      • Danielle

And I’m not even worried about a glimpse of the good china!

        • Sadie-Ann

That should be the real slit scale. Not how high it actually is, but how scared your audience is of seeing something they don’t want to see. According to that, this is a very low one.

  • lundibleu

She looks amazing. Try imagining that on various other celebs, or trashy reality TV types, and it just couldn’t look classy at all, but on Naomie it just works.

    • kittenwithaquip

My first thought was, “Blake Lively would’ve sexed that up.” In a bad way.

      • LipstickForPigs

I tried to up-vote this, but it keeps showing as a down-vote so I’ll just give you a texty “HELL yeah”

  • carpediva

I actually love the juxtaposition of the sleeves; it’s like the sexiest FLOTUS dress ever. Plus this also one time where her sternum isn’t overwhelming everything else in the room! And I think hair, makeup, and accessories are all pretty perfect as well, and the color is divine. This is a WERQ for me; she looks regal and amazing.

    • wisdomy

I can’t give her the WERQ, precisely because of the FLOTUS aspect. I love the dress on her, the shoes are amazing, and it’s not that I want it sexed up exactly, but the hair takes it to “First Ladies Gone Wild.”

    • Rhonda Shore

i like the sleeves too and love the black nail polish! Love the look except the shoes.

      • mlle

I think long sleeves rather than 3/4. You still get the “covered up sexy” vibe, but the proportions work better.

  • sugarkane105

This was actually my favorite look of the night.

  • She does love her sternum – and fair enough too – but I think this is the best we’ve seen it looking. I think I’d prefer this sleeveless, perhaps even with quite deep armholes for the faintest hint of sideboob, and the slit sewn down to her knee.

    • It’s a little much for me, but I can’t say it doesn’t look good. It seems like it might be a tad big through the waist and hips…? Not that it has to be super Kardashian skin-tight, but it seems a little shapeless there. Shapelessness at the waist & hip and 3/4 sleeves + deep cleavage and high slit = a little bit of cognitive dissonance. Is she prim or is she sexxxy? But perhaps that’s the point of the dress.

  • decormaven

She’s making this sing- and it could have gone flat on someone else. Those shoes are perfect in theory, but cramp-inducing in reality.

  • alyce1213

Naomie is gorgeous in this. I adore the shawl collar. The open sternum works because she’s not popping or falling out.
Her elegance elevates most everything she puts on.
Oh, if I could wear those shoes, even for an hour . . .

  • Daisy Walker

I’m not a fan of that color, but she looks stunning. Second only to Lupita last night.

  • @Biting Panda

Well, I am going to be the stuffy prude tonight, because I think she looks like a really high class hooker. Top dollar. Statesmen and Aristocratic level customers. But for hire, none the less. When I can see that much of your chest, AND way upper thigh, my mind is not going to wrap around elegant. Though I’ll gladly give her lovely, stunning and even enviable.

    • demidaemon

I don’t disagree. To me, the top says, “Let’s make a deal,” in a super executive way; the bottom says, “I’m so hot my leg just melted through this skirt.” Add that together and what do you get?

    • FrigidDiva

That’s kind of what I got too. I see it as a role-playing costume–Naughty First Lady or Naughty Speaker of the House. The hair, the 3/4 lenght sleeves, the belt then you have the bare sternum and the high slit. She has absolutely enviable skin though.

    • Kent Roby

I’m not on board with the leg slit or the plastic shoe, but I think she wears the chest exposure well (imagine how bad this would look on an overly-enhanced chest).

    • tereliz

See, I think the shawl collar takes it squarely out of hooker-dom. (I almost wrote hooker-dome. That would be something to see.)

  • SugarSnap108

I’m not a fan of that neckline, but overall she looks great. And it’s true — She can wear a mile-high slit and plunging neckline without looking like she’s trying too hard or desperate to grab attention.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I think the FLOTUS hair is what keeps it in the tasteful realm. She’s such a strikingly classic beauty.

  • I don’t know… She does look striking; the color is gorgeous on her, but I just don’t like the sleeves.

  • E. D.

I love this – even the shoes!

  • MilaXX

I wish the slit wasn’t so high, but I think she looks really lovely here. That’s a terrific color on her.

  • melanie0866

  • mdcoon127

  • LaSylphide

Classic hair, subdued makeup and low-key accessories, perfectly paired with a sex-pot dress. And those shoes are gorgeous, although I can’t imagine how she manages to keep them on when she walks.

  • She looks incredible!

  • fananafanafophalec

this is a do me dress on a be me person

  • sagecreek

Oh, lovely! With a bit less cleavage I can see FLOTUS rocking this.

    • alyce1213

The slit would have to be closed up to maybe just above the knee as well or the entire country would have collective apoplexy.

  • Rand Ortega

That is some proper British hotness right there!

  • bellafigura1

Absolute perfection. That color! The shoes! Her bearing!

  • Dagney

This is a WERQ for me. I love this kind of look; understated va-voom is perfection.

  • unbornfawn

    Do me.

  • PastryGoddess

she’s showing lots of chest, but not breast. I think that helps.

  • AmeliaEve

A big part of what keeps it being too trashy looking is the tailoring. It fits her, but it is not tight. There is no stress anywhere on the fabric. It’s like a classic anchorwoman’s dress that just happens to be cut down to there and up to here. Nice juxtaposition.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I think those 3/4 sleeves and mushroom hair are somehow making the low-cut and high-slit more respectable. That is a great color on her, but I don’t know how she stands in those shoes.

  • poggi

The hair, makeup and accessories are perfect choices for her in that dress. She looks amazing. Also I love her lip color with the dress. It’s perfect.

  • marlie

I’d cut a bitch for those shoes. Naomie looks absolutely stunning here.

  • quiltrx

If the neckline were more closed up, this would be almost First-Lady-ish from the waist up. And I mean that as a compliment. There’s something regal about it, and I think the hair adds to that.

  • Trickytrisha

Not being a fan of sternums, dresses that highlight them are a bit off-putting for me. However. this dress color and shape looks lovely on Naomie in spite of the wide vee neckline. Killer shoes.

  • padma sallah

Love the colour and the elegance she is exuding. My only quibble is the hair. It looks a bit aging. If this had been a sleek ponytail, I am pretty sure it would have been a WERQ. As it is, it is an almost-WERQ.

  • Clash D

Wow. She looks great – just the right touch of jewellery while still trending the minimalist look. Killer shoes, feet look tired though but overall she’s rocking it.

  • boweryboy

It also helps that she has model size breasts. Any bigger and the entire look would start to tip into Vulgarville. Hate the hair.

  • demidaemon

It’s weirdly businessy on the top, which I can’t really get past. She sure does know how to work a slit, though; I just wish this dress had a different bodice.

  • She just oozes chic. It’s that face. She always looks so calm. This is a killer look but I agree about the shoes. If the first question I want to ask her is, ‘how are you managing to walk in those shoes?’ then does that qualify as focus pulling?

  • MannahattaMamma

    Angelina Jolie’s leg is jealous.

  • Beardslee

I don’t really know who this person is, she looks like a really smart grown woman, and beautiful to boot. I think the sleeves balance out the slit and even the sternum though as always I find that display more anatomical than alluring. She looks great but those shoes – ouch!!

  • KayEmWhy

Lovely, she reminds me of a young Eartha Kitt.

    • Let’s make that bio-pic happen!

      • KayEmWhy

Found one if I only knew how to post it here. LOL!

    • KinoEye

Dang! Just wrote the exact same thing before seeing this. She really does look like Eartha, and we absolutely need a bio-pic for that magnificent lady.

  • Sally Spannagle

The color is gorgeous on her. But I think the dress lends itself to a bathrobe look.

  • FrigidDiva

Those poor feet. My arches are screaming in sympathy right now, but damn does she have the most gorgeous feet. However, I can’t imagine what kind of Hollywood magic has to be employed so that one doesn’t get a massive blister from the clear plastic/rubber part of the shoe. I was a child of the 80’s and remember my mother forcing jellies on me. Shudder.

  • formerlyAnon

This is a triumph simply because my takeaway is ” gosh, she’s gorgeous” and I’m not distracted by her sternum or her too high heels.

I like 3/4 length sleeves rather more than the average person, so these are fine, but those shoes are too extreme.

  • Jessica Freeman

I really love this. Great dress and something just a bit different yet striking.

  • ovarB

Miss Moneypenny is ready for a little James Bond action.

  • KinoEye

Very statuesque. She reminds me of someone here, but I can’t think of who… Eartha Kitt, maybe?

  • AzSportsGirl

“Oh that? Yes, that’s my leg and it *DOES* go on for miles”
The lapels make this dress for me. And the fact that it’s tailored to exquisiteness. That hem. ::sigh::

  • ojosazules

    The Prime Minister of Hotasfuckistan.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love everything but the hair. She really is a beauty though – she could probably wear a burlap sack and I’d be too distracted by her face to notice.

  • kt

The color is amazing and I LOVE her face. But, that dress is awfully thickening. She is athletically thin, which tends to read better when you can see the arms. the wide shoulders to strangely wide waist (dress, not her) is unflattering, as is the leg slit. If you have been blessed with a narrow dancer’s body, you need to either embrace it or add curves, this square dress isn’t doing much for her enviable shape. Hot pink looks tremendous on her.

  • crash1212

I love this and I usually hate those deep plunging V’s. It’s all about the lapels for me. I’m wondering how those shoes stay on her feet…do they make shoe tape now?

  • cocohall

This is quite the balancing act – it shouldn’t work as well as it does, but on her all the elements (plunge, slit, sleeves, color) come together. I’m not that familiar with her work – was she trained as a dancer? Because half of what is making this work is how she is holding her body. And I bet she was ever so glad to sit down after her RC strut. Man those are killa shoes.

  • rarero

I was about to say the dress was very understated for a Gucci number, but the leg slit makes up for that. I think the shoes and the bag is too match matchy but I love how much class She serves here

  • ThaliaMenninger

Fabulous. Except for the torture shoes.

  • heartbot

  • Imasewsure

I rarely like anything she wears on the RC and this one is no exception… she’s gorgeous though

  • JauntyJohn

Generally, when the bared skin calls to mind terms more appropriate to an anatomy lecture (“sternum”) than a seduction I tend to think it’s a miss and not a hit. But this look in total is a stunner, to me. “Poise, polish and bearing” indeed.

  • bigeasybridget

Porn fantasy of the sexy news anchor

  • EEKstl

This girl gets it right way more often than not, and I agree the 3/4 inch sleeves don’t work as well but color is fab. And I am now officially obsessed with those shoes.

  • RescueMe23

Angelina take note! THAT is how you pose with a high slit…

  • julnyes

I love the color on her and her makeup and earrings are fantastic, but I would love this look if she had something sparkly on her wrist (I’m a magpie) a full length sleeve and less sternum exposure.
