Michelle Dockery Double Style Shot

Posted on February 25, 2014

We shouted out two side-by-side exclamations upon viewing this first set of pictures:

“Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery makes an appearance on “EXTRA” at Hollywood Universal Studios in Universal City, California in a Cushnie et Ochs dress paired with Casadei pumps.

She really does look cute, though. It’s a skosh too tight and the shoes are only okay, but you put those shades on her and the whole thing comes together nicely, in a sort of modern day Jackie O kind of way. It suits her very well.

And then, as if to complete her salute to American first ladies, she reached into Michelle Obama’s closet and stole one of her dresses:

“Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery attends the premiere of “Non-Stop” in Los Angeles, California in a Christian Dior dress accessorized with Christian Louboutin pumps, an Edie Parker clutch, and Cartier jewelry.

Again with the slightly too tight. And those shoes don’t really feel like they go at all. This would have been one time we’d have recommended pulling out the navy blue from the dress in the shoes. Besides, those things look painful as hell.

Her hair looks cute.

  • I hope she’s going over the road for cheap beers with Lupita after the show. They both must be exhausted. I love that first dress – it’s like an aristocratic fantasy of a Robert Palmer girl.

    • Sobaika

Grabbing beers with Lady Mary and Lupita N’yongo is a fantasy I never knew I had.

      • Jacob Bowen

I would actually DRINK beer if it was with Lady Mary and Lupita!

  • lundibleu

I adore the first one, and despair that the second one is Dior. Though I’m also now imagining her with her hair slightly sleeker and dressed in proper Jackie O drag.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I’ll say it again, if they ever do another Jackie O biopic, Lady Mary should play her.

  • MilaXX

That first look is really cute and sassy! The second look is great but too tight. I’m on the fence about the shoe. On the one hand, it’s nice to see her going bolder in her shoe choice. On the other hand, these shoes don’t exactly go with the dress. Still both are a step up from her mostly safe fashion style. Also whoever is now doing her hair, deserves a raise.

    • 3boysful

On my monitor, the accent color in the second dress is pink, so I am perplexed by the orange lip color and the coral in the shoe? But it’s not a great dress anyway. Love the navy dress.

      • If you look at the closeup on the bust, as well as the pink accents there are some darker orange/red touches as well.

      • suzq

Maybe Thomas Barrow hid the coral version of the dress from her lady’s maid.

    • SugarSnap108

I really like the shoes in the second look, but they just don’t make any sense with this dress.

  • Scimommy

And here I was about to say that she needs a hair consult. Doesn’t it look a bit too… Rachel-y, especially in the first set of pics? Don’t know if it suits her that much. Both dresses look cute though.

    Okay, back to #TeamEdith.

    • frumpybiscuits

I was thinking politician’s wife. It’s looking very mom bob – #nooffensetothemamas. But cute -ish hair in second shot.

The whole lob, bob – situation. I think it is sooo easy for these haircuts to look not cute without really careful styling. They need to come with warnings. I have had a bob – and honestly sooo much more effort went into that.

First dress, with the second head of hair= winner.

  • sagecreek

So cute! The second dress ain’t great, but I just got off the Miley Cyrus page, so it looks pretty good to me.

I cannot wait till I can see her in a non-Lady Mary role, I’d love to see what she could do out of that box.

    • Scimommy

Have you seen the Funny Or Die video where she oscillates between Lady Mary and a tough American police woman? That was pretty out of the box!

      • sagecreek

        I will google now! Thanks.

      • ryenerman

OK that was hilarious! Thank you!

        • majorbedhead

Good lord. I did the whole *Snort-Laugh* thing while watching that. Lady Mary would raise her delicate eyebrows at me for certain.

      • Jackie4g

That was a hoot. “Lady Mary Gets a New Job”. Indeed.

      • Vanessa Reyes

That was hilarious! I would totally watch!

    • Gatto Nero

Everything looks good after the Miley page.

    • Mim McDonald

If you can get it wherever you are in the world, she played Susan in the Sky TV adaptation of Mort (Terry Pratchett novel). She’s death’s granddaughter working as a nanny, a sort of Scary Poppins… I think it was her first big role, long before Downton, and she’s great in it.

  • Slanted & Enchanted

I really like both of these on her, but I especially love the first dress. Wish she had paired it with shoes in a bright, warm color…although, I can understand why she’d shy away from that palette with her skin tone. Gold would have been nice. Even the second shoes would have been better.

  • Latin Buddy

If she REALLY wanted to pull a Shelly-O, she would have ruined the dress with a big ass belt and matching cardigan

    • Sarah

      And kitten heels.

    • demidaemon

  • Alfred Cox

She looks very cute. Like the first look a lot more than the second, but she looks refined, fresh and still very sophisticated. Good on Lady Mary.

  • Sarah

Navy is my favorite. That first dress is the shit! Those shoes in look 2 are so weird for the dress it’s cray. But then, I sorta hate that dress. It’s like bad 70’s wallpaper.

  • twocee

Sigh. How do I get my hair (which is in a very similar cut) to do that? Besides getting it professionally styled every morning before I get to work 🙂

    • Sarah

Blow it upside down and flip it, methinks.

  • Gatto Nero

Beautiful. That alabaster skin (I’m sure she’s sporting a high SPF). In photo #3 she looks so much like Lady Cora.
That first dress is breezy on her — not used to seeing her in that light.
Love the more-textured hair in the second look.

  • Danielle

The first dress is giving me LIFE. I want to lunch with her.

  • Alyssa

I think both of these dresses look radiant on her, even though they are both a smidge too tight. Also, love her sunglasses. And Dior…why can’t you give something like this to JLaw?

  • ChaCha_70

I was hoping for a pairs division with her & lupita from this event…even though technically they’re not a pair, but they star in the same movie and share the same stylist!

    • There are some cute pictures of them together, too.

  • Neil

Her hair puts 20 years on her.

  • Bexxx

I love her hair in the second shot. And it looks so HEALTHY!

  • pepper76

She looks amazing! I believe she now has the same stylist as Lupita.

    • Helen

She’s worked with Micaela Erlanger since Jan 2013. Not that she’s changed into a new one.

  • kategs

I really like both these dresses but the first one looks – oh I don’t know, somewhat droopy or too long in the bodice somehow? It’s just not quite right and I am not sure why. And she has the fairest skin I’ve seen in a long time. gorgeous

  • Kent Roby

I love how much that bottom detail (vinyl?) adds so much fun to a dress that would otherwise be boring. And I’m glad that the reflection off the bottom is blinding the guy behind her so he can’t see up her skirt (see last photo of that dress)!

  • lexilexi

She is so cute…. and WHAT A BOD!

  • SugarSnap108

The first look is adorable – just needs a kickier shoe. The second dress fits poorly, and I’m not really sold on that fabric. The shoes are pretty fabulous, but I can’t imagine why anyone would pair them with that dress.

  • teensmom99

I can’t help it, I just love the Dior even if it is too tight and too whatever else.

  • kimmeister

If I took off my sunglasses on a mega sunny day, I would be squinting. She is not. Is she human?

  • PastryGoddess

Since Jackie O’s been done to death, which first lady will she play. Laura Bush? Lady Bird Johnson?

    • demidaemon

I can see young Laura Bush here, now that you mention it.

  • gracedarling

Total Jackie O! Wouldn’t it be great if she turned up on Mad Men as a high-powered swinging as exec from across the pond?

  • nannypoo

I love both these looks and in the second one she finally got her makeup right. She looks great. But she really needs a good bra fitting.

  • livesarah

    The plastic hem. No.

  • Evan

    LOVE the second dress.

  • your face

Love the second dress. The first one looks like a competitive racing swimsuit from the hips up.

  • maretha2

She should call Oprah and get some tips on foundation garments. Her girls almost always look like they are in a race to her waist, and hey, I get that some of us have boobage that naturally sits a little low on the torso. But we live in the 21st century and there are ways to flatter and fluff!

  • Nicole Little

    Dig the pretty techno fabric!

  • majorbedhead

That blue dress is killah. I love it on her.

I hope she buys sunscreen by the case. But dayum, her skin is gorgeous.

  • Leah Elzinga

    yay for hair zhuzhing!!!

  • cocohall

The second dress is a skosh too tight, but otherwise I think it is the perfect style and colors for her. I’m not sure about the hem frippery on the first dress, but still she looks good.

  • marlie

I NEED to have that second pair of shoes in my life.

I like both outfits very much. The first is a simple tank dress, but it suits her figure and personality, and the shades and red lip are the perfect compliment. And the second dress — I’m shocked that this is a DIor that I like. They should have put JLaw in this.

  • titaness25

Praise Xenu, she’s wearing identifiable eye shadow colours! She looks striking in both photos.

  • Miss wks

    wow….that is one w h i t e woman…..

  • grapecranberry

The first dress might not be so tight if she didn’t have to wear that sound box at the back of her waist.

  • boweryboy

The best I’ve seen her look. Ever.

I don’t mind the shoes in the second look. Sometimes I like a jarring contrast in the shoe department. At times I do it myself.

  • luluransom

That is some seriously kinda now, kinda wow hair in the first look. Love the look from the ankles up.

  • judybrowni

    Guy in purple shirt approves!

  • Trickytrisha

I’m kinda bowled over here… she’s showing us some serious gorgeousness lately. Love both these looks, just not the shoes on the second one.

  • quiltrx

What is it with her and her boobs always running down her front? I get that not everyone’s are under their chin (mine aren’t), but I’ve never seen her when I thought she was even wearing any sort of bra/foundation garment.

    • demidaemon

I too thought her boobs looked a little low but didn’t want to say anything for fear of reprisal. I’m glad you did it first. 😉

    • sunflower

Her stylist needs to buy her a damn bra already!

  • Jennifer Bober

LOL on the sunscreen comment, though we of the melanin challenged set are all too fully cognizant of the repercussions if we don’t wear sunblock. Forget sunscreen, we start at SPF 50 and work our way up!

    The dress is adorable though.

  • jw_ny

Love the 1st look…casual chic, and very cute on her. I imagine there’ll be a run on that dress.

Not feeling much love for the 2nd dress though…fit really is just allover too tight, especially the way it’s binding at her chest, arms & armpits. I prefer her when she dresses in more modern and slightly edgier styles…that one is rather conservative/dowdy.

  • Call me Bee

Seriously want the first navy dress right now. Now.

  • imakeart

Love her hair in both looks, but especially the second.

  • Clash D

LOVE the first dress, not so much the second one. What’s up with Dior these days?

  • colorjunky

Love the shoes in the second one, but not in these colors with that dress. SFP ASAP English rose!

  • Kikishua

Re the hair: First outfit – her hair is good viewed from the left, but not so good viewed from the right (too full). Even so, wish mine looked like that!
