Luke Evans at the 2014 WilliamVintage Dinner

Posted on February 18, 2014

And now, a boy.

Luke Evans attends the 2014 WilliamVintage dinner at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London, England.

Really love the jacket, but the rest of the look just doesn’t seem to add up to much, does it? The shirt collar’s too high, the tie looks drab, and the shoes and pants are practically generic. Sometimes you can put on one really good piece and just follow up with a bunch of standard pieces that don’t take away from it, but we think this time, there needed to be some styling decisions. Skinnier pants, Chelsea boots, maybe a little more tailoring in the jacket, a tie that looks expensive – that’s what this look needs.

Also: he has beautiful hair, but we think it looks better when it’s shorter. We always get in trouble when we say that.

It looks like he’s wearing City Pants from New York & Company. As a rule, shouldn’t men’s pants have zippers? For efficiency, if nothing else?

      • marlie

When I read “for efficiency,” my brain went to a totally inappropriate place.

        • Lucía Gavello

Oh it’s ENTIRELY appropriate in my book.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

A lot of men’s jeans still have button flies, I don’t know about dress pants.

        • demidaemon

Some of them have tab closures, some buttons. Still, most, if not all, still have functional zippers. At least, I think they do.

        • Karen Belgrad

These look like they have no buttons or zippers… they look like pull-on wide-legged leggings. They make him look like a eunuch!

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

… now you have me staring at his crotch far too hard!

            • Karen Belgrad

Is that a complaint? Didn’t think so ;)

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Well it is, because, as you’ve pointed out, I can’t see anything!

          • MilaXX

I was beginning to think it was me. He looks like a Ken doll.

          • CPK1

these are indeed highly unflattering pants

        • Jacob Bowen

Men’s pants with button flies are THE WORST!

    • Laura Renee

I agree with you about the hair. Also it looks really obviously dyed.

    • jtabz

The bit of tie peeking out below the jacket button is making me twitchy.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

Agreed. The jacket doesn’t appear to be pulling at the waist so I’m guessing it’s an odd cut rather than a poor fit.

      • kimmeister

The tie-peep is less bothersome than the patch of white shirt showing there!

        • jtabz

          That too, kimmeister!

        • alyce1213

One of my pet peeves — the patch of shirt coming out of the bottom of a jacket. So many do it, too.

        • AnneElliot

I agree, it makes the jacket look too short, or as if the button is placed badly. More buttons would have been better.

      • vitaminC

It’s a tuxedo cut, so it requires some kind of cumberbund to keep that crap covered up. Also, a bowtie.

Y’know what? Why don’t you just give me the jacket so I can show you how to wear it. I promise I’ll return it… eventually.

      • Clash D

Thank you all for restoring my faith in humanity. The sight of that peek-a-boo was driving me bonkers.

    • Nancer

Sorry, the jacket bugs. It’s a one button jacket! It just doesn’t work. Leave it open, or re-engineer it to take two buttons. THEN we might have something.

      • ralish

I agree– the jacket looks… off. Maybe a bit too feminine.

      • Aidan B

Agreed; at least two more buttons needed here.

    • Alyssa

I love the jacket, but that’s all. Also, I agree…he is much prettier to look at with short hair, IMO.

    • Dany

He does nothing for me, unfortunately, when he has that hair.

With short hair, however, this man is absolutely DELICIOUS.

      Also, Welsh accent.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Love that jacket, and Evans really brought life to the second Hobbit movie as Bard the Bowman

    • Jecca2244

i agree with the hair. beautiful hair. just needs a trim. he also looks uncomfortable.

    • marlie

Love the jacket, but it looks a size too small. I think that might fix a lot of the (minor) issues I have. But who care, because LUKE EVANS.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

There’s something about the shape of the lapels that had me expecting scroll-down toreador. Deep disappointment that there is no cummerbund and matching knickerbockers.

    • Glam Dixie

I’ll probably be in the minority, but this is awful. I can’t sign off on anything going on here.

    • demidaemon

Um, no. This is all ill-fitting and his hair is in that awful in-between place that some men with curly hair get. It’s not great, and I know this from experience.

      • KinoEye

One of my very best friends had long hair for years, and it would always start to curl/wave at a certain point before it got long enough to fall straight. It looked about like that. On the other hand, my ex had beautiful long hair that was naturally straight as a pin and did whatever he wanted it to. I was always jealous.

        • demidaemon

Yeah, I could never get past that point. At the time, I was in college, competing at speech tournaments, where the dress code was business formal. My coach put a kibosh on that right quick. But I have envy for your ex, too. And maybe a bit of lust.

          • KinoEye

I’ve always been a sucker for long hair on guys, and I hate that it’s seen as somehow unprofessional. Total 180 from how things used to be — long hair for presidents, parliamentarians and the like. And oh yes, lust kept me in that relationship past its time. Long auburn hair (which I refused to let him cut), ginger beard and perfect skin. And he was a great guitarist. Pretty much pushed all my buttons!

    • natty_bat

He looks like a leprechaun maitre ‘d. I think it’s the color and cut of the jacket plus the baggy pants. The hair is much better short; it’s not curly enough when long to keep it from looking greasy.

      • ShaoLinKitten

I agree–looks like a waiter or an usher at an old timey movie theatre. As for the hair, it needs to be either longer and clean, or shorter.

    • KinoEye

I love the idea of a green velvet jacket, but not this particular execution. And I wish we saw more Chelsea boots on the RC, and everywhere else, really. Love those on men.

    • Janet B

      Swing and a miss

    • Gerry Coleman

What is it you boys are always saying when a ladystar wears a tulip skirt? It’s like he’s raising the curtains on his junk. Or lack thereof, as they pants would seem to indicate.

      • Dan_In_NYC

I can’t with the cut of that jacket. Tulip, indeed. And if you are going to “feature” your nethers – then make it worth the view.

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I can’t with the Jon Snow hair, it never works outside the GoT set.

    • Patrick Cleary

Feh on wanting guys to have short hair. I love long hair on men, and would rather see it on more guy stars than less.

The jacket just looks so snug and so small.

    • Feathers McGraw

I know this is slightly off-topic, but did you know he had a “coming-in”? He used to be openly gay, but ever since he was first cast in Hollywood movies he “doesn’t comment” on his private life anymore and his assistant lady is claiming to “date” him. Nice suit though.

    • MilaXX

I like the jacket, but the pants are really odd. They are making him look like a Ken doll from the waist down and that is NEVER okay. I also prefer him with shorter hair. Kit Harington looks good with long hair, but outside of the show it doesn’t work for Luke.

    • Danielle

Whyyyy are his pants so high though?

    • ashtangajunkie

That face deserves a better outfit.

    • Michele

Ha ha! I thought that was St. Pancreas hotel and I wondered why anyone would name a hotel that, and more importantly, how did the pancreas get sainted? Oh yeah, cute boy in velvet suit? Meh.

    • Jacob Bowen

I am right there with you TLo! I am not a fan of the long hair (on any man really). I also HATE this jacket because of the lapels (WAY too large) and the fabric (velvet+that color=YUCK!)!

    • Malibufire

      Nothing working here. Move along.

    • JauntyJohn

This is ALLLL working for me.
It’s one of those “sum total” things.
And strong features with longish hair just makes me want to put on a bodice just so that it can be ripped off. What can I say, I’m a little shallow around the edges…

      • formerlyAnon

Strong features + Longish hair. Definitely a classic.

    • formerlyAnon

The TLo edits to his ensemble would be swoon worthy. Not sure his hair needs to be shorter, but it needs to be shaped.

Also, he’s just too pretty for me not to say it: Shave or grow a real beard. I’m fucking begging ALL OF YOU.

    • luluransom

I do love the jacket, but the lapels are tres swoopy.

    • Fred Vaughn

His hair is just fine the length it is, thank you. Subdued and stylish is a nice combo.

    • ojosazules

The jacket is a little Lord Fauntleroy for his rugged good looks. The fabric is beautiful on him, but the cut is kinda precious.

    • superemang

nope. nope. It’s like I expect him to carry my luggage and bring it to my room pronto. Then I’ll tip him really really well because he’s got a nice a$$.

    • SierraDelta

If the jacket only has one button, should it be that high?

    • quiltrx

I LURVE his hair, don’t touch it! The jacket looks way too short to me–as in where the button hits. I can’t tolerate that bit of shirt and tie showing out the bottom. Otherwise super-cute…but the front of his pants? Preternaturally smooth.

    • Therese Bohn

I like his luscious waves too; looks like he stepped out of a Tolstoy Novel! :-) And just once I’d like to see my husband in a velvet jacket!

      • carnush

Exactly. Although for me he’s more of a Mr. Rochester.

    • Diego!

He looks way more relaxed and less tired than his last appearances on the RC. I LOVE that jacket. I want one. With him inside… LOL xD

    • crash1212

So, are we supposed to see that bit of shirt on his belly under the jacket button? I see that SO much on the mens these days. It looks to me like a total fit issue, but maybe that’s the style these days? If so, I don’t like it.

      • Shawn EH

I think the style is whatever makes the jacket shorter and closely fitting right now.

    • littlemac8

He does nothing for me but that jacket is such a beautiful color!

    • Ann VerWiebe

I think that jacket was cut for a cummerbund. The button is so high!
