There comes a time where you have to accept that a skirt that length is not appropriate at any age

    • jspark

She’s got legs! And she knows how to use them.

      • Lucía Gavello

Well I guess I should walk the red carpet in assless chaps then, I worry about air drafts though 😉

        • Bridget Smith

Please, those would do NOTHING for your legs.

          • Lucía Gavello

Oh but my legs are not my best asset (horrible pun intended)

        • uprightcitizen

I always love it when people describe chaps as “assless”. All chaps are sans ass. If they’ve got fabric there, they’re pants. 🙂

          • Lucía Gavello

Hahaha, I guess in my case it’s a matter of poor vocabulary, chaparreras is more like it 😛

      • Gatto Nero

I see what you did there.

    • barbarienne

I think it’s less the length (or lack of length) of the skirt than the overall proportions of the skirt to the top, plus the “legs or tits, pick just one” rule, plus the utter disconnect in texture/mood between the top and skirt.

Imagine if this were an evening-event cocktail dress, in a dark color silk with a bit of glitter woven in, and those sleeves weren’t blousy (or long), and the bustline was a fraction more modest. The length would be fine, and we would all be saying, “When you have those legs, show them off.”

    • KateShouldBeWorking

      That thing is Vegas-short.

  • She needs to give Martina Navratilova her skirt back.

    • mjude

i had to look at the skirt again. you are right and it look super CHEAP.

    • Anna

Tennis skirt is exactly what I thought. Tennis skirt paired with a pyjama top.

    • Kent Roby

That’s it! Maybe the event organizers asked guests to dress like various famous women over the decades; Kate was asked to do an updated version of Martina; and Emmy Rossem was assigned Studio 54-era Bianca Jagger!

      • ballerinawithagun

First thing I thought, just left the court and OMG my gorgeous floral silk skirt fell out of my gym bag and was run over. Guess I’ll have to wear my tennis skirt…

    • conniemd

The length and fabric of the skirt so does not match the blouse. It definitely was a WTF scroll down. The elastic looking skirt waist definitely gives a tennis skirt feel too, you don’t want to pop a button when you are reaching to hit the ball.

      • It also has that little dip up at the side seams. She could totally tuck a tennis ball under her knickers in that skirt.

    • Alfred Cox

    • kimmeister

I was thinking “terry cloth swimsuit coverup.”

    • demidaemon

EXACTLY. Without a doubt, that skirt is a pair of tennis shorts with the crotch seam cut out.

  • jilly_d

    Is that…..an….elastic waist?

    • Ginger

Tis…tis tragic, no? Maybe she’s planning on eating a lot and wants to be comfortable? Does that skirt also have built-in modesty undies (such as cheerleading skirts, toddler skirts, etc.)? Because it totally should…

    • Jessica Freeman

Looks like the PInterest craze of making your own skirt with less than a yard of fabric and elastic! has caught up to Kate here.

      • Bridget Smith

Hah, I get SO MANY compliments on mine. Best $10 skirt ever!

    • BrianaJC

That elastic waist was the only thing I didn’t like about this ensemble (if you ignore seasonal appropriate-ness)

    • Evan

Don’t fret dear. She and Goldie went to Boca after this event. She had to fit in.

  • Gatto Nero

This looks unfussy and in keeping with her style, though the skirt is too short.
The medallion is a nice touch.

    • Gatto Nero

Just noticed the elastic waist. Horrors.
And a stiletto with a skirt that short always looks trashy.

    • kimmeister

It is a gorgeous medallion, for sure.

  • @Biting Panda

Did I miss Spring? Did she just arrive from somewhere both tropical and six months into the future?

  • Jessica Freeman

Scroll down fug. Could have done so much better than a mini skirt and white heels.

  • SugarSnap108

I get why she wants to show off the gams, but there are better ways. That skirt looks silly and cheap, especially with the white pumps. I like the blouse and jewelry, though.

  • ashtangajunkie

The skirt reminds me of the running skirts that Lululemon sells. Something about her makeup is a bit Barbara Eden stars in ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ to me, but I love the blouse and accessories.

  • Molly

Nearly showing off the good china. (thanks, Peach. )

  • MilaXX

why is she wearing a towel with a yellow shirt and heels?

    • Alyssa

Perhaps she spent the day at the beach and forgot her skirt/pants…sewed some elastic in her towel, threw her hair up in a messy bun, and called it good!

  • mary mary quite contrary

did she do something to her face? she looks unrecognizable.

    • Kent Roby

Maybe a cheek and/or eye lift? She’s always been so cute, and is still so young; I just can’t imagine the pressure that women in Hollywood must feel to look a certain way. Well, let’s see, in keeping it positive: Her legs are awesome, and the medallion is great.

      • mary mary quite contrary

Her legs are gorgeous! Love the blouse too

      • Alyssa

It is a shame these women feel pressure to modify their already beautiful selves to a point where they morph into looking like someone else entirely. It gives young girls the idea that their natural self isn’t good enough. Good thing for books like TLo’s, which teach said young girls not to look up to celebs as role models! I plan to use examples from their book with my daughter and my nieces as they get older and start to feel pressure to look certain ways. On another note, that medallion is indeed awesome!

      • sojourneryouth

Definitely something going on with her cheeks and eyes. The eye thing was what first startled me. They seem more slanted than they used to be, and I don’t think it’s the makeup. She also seems a bit thinner (?), but it could just be that I haven’t been paying attention to her lately. Whatever she did, I would have never guessed that was Kate Hudson without the title.

    • DTLAFamilies

I just googled her age: 34. Thirty-freakin-four. Way too young to do shit to her face.

      • TerryMH

Yeah, now she looks 40 years old. I think Isaac Mizrahi said something like facework is the surest way a 40 year old woman will look 60. He’s right.

    • ballerinawithagun

I know, her eyes are excruciatingly tight! She’s had more work than her mother!

    • clatie

was about to pose the same question – wowser

    • FrigidDiva

I was just going to comment on that. I don’t want this to sound snarky, but her face looks…tight? It looks like they made her bun way too tight.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Maybe her bun is too tight.

    • Alloy Jane

Unreal. Why do people do this to themselves? I’m utterly flat-chested but would never in a million years buy boobs and have never had the inclination to. I just don’t hate myself enough to think surgical alteration is appealing.

    • SophieB210

Definitely the eyes are off: some sort of overly creative eyeliner?

  • dalgirl

It took me a sec to recognize her-is it her eye makeup that’s making her look different?

    • Mismarker

I think so. It’s a feline eye look. Cat eye flick at outer corner and downward flick at inner corner of the eye.

      • Alyssa

It’s making her eyes look set very far apart…from the side, it looks more like her than from the front. I love cat-eye makeup, but not sure it’s the right style for her.

    • GeoDiva

Agree, the eye make up is very wonky.

  • KinoEye

Oh, look! Kate has the same hairstyle I wear when I’m home alone. Good to know my hair is red-carpet ready.

    • Anna

Apparently, whether we’ve just worked out or been bed-ridden with some sort of viral plague, we have all been red-carpet ready. Thanks to this hairstyle!

    • Kent Roby

      THAT is funny!

  • Lesley

i’m more distracted by what she has done to her face than what she’s wearing

  • Mothra

    Is that skirt waistband elastic?

  • quiltrx

Yuck. Bar aprons are not skirts. And it’s not June.
And something really odd going on around her eyes.

  • Kent Roby

She better stay away from Serial Mom while wearing those shoes.

  • mcbishop

SO hope she hasn’t had surgery to her face. She’s always been really cute, and suddenly……WHAT!?!

  • imspinningaround

I would not be surprised if that skirt was from her vanity athleticwear line.

    • Mismarker

That shiz be all over my Facebook feed.

  • Mismarker

She just came from yoga, right? Only excuse for that hair.

  • Carolyne

Ummm… did she just cut the legs off her white sweatpants and call it a skirt? Because that elastic waistband sure looks like its origin was sweatpants.

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

This is tragic ’70’s ‘I just finished screwing the bug man, darling…you do understand why I’m a bit tragique, yes? No matter.’

  • Jacob Bowen

Kate is sporting some VERY SURPRISED eyebrows at the moment…please tell me they’re just the product of makeup.

    • Imasewsure

Yes her face looks a bit “fresh” but I’m hoping it’s weird makeup and not the start of something that can’t be undone!

    • Same thought here. She’s pretty young for cosmetic surgery though the Hollywood crowd has a different view. I too was hoping it’s the makeup and hair pulling her face so taut. Outfit is a total snooze though her legs are amazing.

  • wisdomy

    Decades of Glamour END HERE!!!

  • teensmom99

When I saw that Goldie Hawn’s daughter was wearing Pucci for Decades of Glamor, I was expecting some 60s crazy-print fab. I like the blouse, but this is not living up to the billing.

  • jonnyf8

Maybe at the top of my Irrational Hate List, although judging by the comments it seems like I’m not alone so maybe it’s rational.

  • Imasewsure

I actually really like this but wish she had worn some interesting funky shoes. Not loving the hair but I hardly ever do like this style. Makeup in funky in a bad way

  • ThaliaMenninger

Not her hairdo. Not her best shade of yellow. Not her best shoes.

  • kipper

Mrs Johnson proved she was, by far the sluttiest mom at the PTA bake sale.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Tsk! White shoes. And not even Easter yet.

  • jw_ny

I’d be totally on board with this look if she were wearing a chic and dressy pair of white shorts instead. That micro-mini skirt is just awful.

Seems the trend is going with the heavy cat-eye liner…doesn’t work here on Kate, nor on most others.

  • Liz

Wow, that’s an ugly skirt. Her hair and skirt look like she just finished a tennis match. And her face looks like her ponytail is too tight.

  • HeatherMcIlrath

Miss Kate, please answer the question: does this look belong at a Decades of Glamour event?
    i’ll answer for you: NO!

    • decormaven

I was all ready to see her all glammed up, and this is it? Hon, you can do better- we know your style. Go dig through the closet and pull out a more appropriate look.

  • another_laura

I’ll giver her the benefit of the doubt on face work and just say, Girl, That’s Not Your Eye Makeup. Or something like that. Very wonky and not for her.

I want to get a closer look at the Bulgari pendant. The outfit, it is just not worth mentioning.

  • keldy

This look is very Blake Lively. And no, that is not a compliment.

  • Kara Keenan

She’s totally channeling Goldie – in her Laugh In days.

  • The woman was born to wear yellow, but that sloppy topknot doesn’t belong anywhere but the grocery store or Starbucks on Sunday morning. The silky weight of the shirt really doesn’t work with the dense hand of the skirt, not to mention the elastic-waistband tennis skirt look. I actually don’t mind the length. She’s Kate Hudson, she’s got the legs for it, and the top is a bit more voluminous to balance it out. Love the necklace, not crazy about the white shoes.

    • JauntyJohn

My very first thought was, “Well, yellow was always her color…”

    • FrigidDiva

I wouldn’t even go to the grocery store with hair like that. Egads.

      • I wouldn’t either, but I was raised never to wear sweatpants out of the house. I still can’t bear to, even in the Drive Thru! To me, that topknot is the sweatpants of hair.I know my nieces have no such hangups, and this hairdo is one of their go-tos.

        • sagecreek

Hee! The only time I wear sweatpants out of the house is in winter, when I am decently covered by a coat.

  • Kelly

Sorry, but this skirt just looks silly — like 1980s short gym shorts that just forgot to make themselves into actual shorts. Pairing this garment with foot-enlarging formal white pumps looks even sillier. Pity, because I rather like the shirt.

  • Claudia

Is it the lack of liner on the lower lid that’s making her eyes look strange…?

  • Alfred Cox

I like this. She at least is trying something a bit more youthful and fresh. And no all white! I think this is cute.

  • KT

I don’t love the shirt, and this is obviously not a very February look, but the whole thing is coming together really nicely. She knows how to make that 70s California poolside chic thing work for her. Also, I want to know what her workout routine is.

    • sagecreek

Her best workout tip? Be born with Goldie Hawn’s genes.

  • Call me Bee

Didn’t even recognize her! Maybe her topknot is too tight, but her eyes look a little like (and I do hate to say this because she’s a beautiful woman) Rex Harrison in “Anna and the King.” And the skirt is too short. But I love, love, LOVE the blouse.

    • Trickytrisha

Yep, something is very off with those eyes. She looks very different than a few years ago, IMO. And yeah too short shirt, and lovely blouse.

  • boweryboy

I can’t get past the elastic waistband. Elastic waistbands will always look cheap to me.

  • marlie

I don’t like any of this. The sloppy hair, the under-done makeup, the color of that blouse, and that ridiculous skirt. Plus, I think that’s the wrong top to showcase the necklace she’s wearing.

  • frannyprof

  • alyce1213

A word about her fingernails: Either she dipped her fingers into a package of Lik-M-Aid before they were dry, or she paid for the ugliest reverse French manicure I’ve ever seen.
That gym short skirt is just wrong, anywhere except a tennis court.

    • I didn’t even notice the nails! You are right, that is bad.

  • JauntyJohn

Well… I like the jewelry, and if you’re going to wear your legs as an accessory, those are what they should look like… but from top to bottom the problem is that overall this looks neither pulled together nor polished.
In fact, I had to double check the event to see if that might be why… but no. This is just a miss.

    • kimmeister

The idea of wearing legs as an accessory tickles me. I’m imagining them screwing on and off like mannequin legs.

  • French_Swede

I never noticed before how her ears stick out.

And I hate bare earlobes when you can see the pierced hole. Just put in a tiny diamond stud or something!

    • sagecreek

I’m with you on the earring thing!

  • Sofia Bentivoglio

Apparently i am alone in this, but i dig it. i love looks that border dressy and casual. the messy hair with her eye makeup is very sexy and the whole look is california blonde. this is a relaxed look that says she wanted to dress up but not take herself too seriously. maybe i am biased because i am a child of the 80s and this look, but with terrible hair, was commonplace.

  • jeneria

Her face looks much tighter than usual. She’s almost alienesque. The skirt seems far too short. It doesn’t look bad, she’s got great legs, it just seems very short. Not a fan of the white shoes, either.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Her skin does look tight-did she have her hair pulled up that tight, or has she fallen victim to early cosmetic surgery? If so, I have a sad.

      • jeneria

I can’t tell what’s going on. She has a weird silver shimmery shadow around the eyes and that couple with the tight hair pulled back make her look like she’s gone under the knife, but I hope that’s not the case.

  • sagecreek

She seems very young to have had gratuitous plastic surgery, but that’s what I’m seeing.

But let’s stick to fashion. It seems cheap and overblown and blowsy to me. Although yellow is her color, no doubt about it.

  • Janet B

    Love the top and necklace.
Her hair, makeup, and skirt are not working in her favor.

(If she wore the skirt in the summer with cute flats, I wouldn’t mind at all.)

  • B_C_J

One should only wear a tennis skirt on a tennis court. The hair looks like she just got done with a match. The blouse is lovely although the yellow is a bit too acidic for me. I HATE white shoes.

  • E. D.

WTF is going on with the eye makeup? I’m not sure what I don’t like about it, but I don’t like it.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Is it the eye makeup or that Kate’s hair is pulled tight and up that is freaking me out? As for the outfit, yes, with those legs she can wear a skirt that short, but the waistband is killing me, in a bad way.

  • uprightcitizen

You know who should wear a skirt that ridiculously short? Her! Those legs! The hair, not so much.

  • Akemi

Is she wearing a tennis skirt?

  • Miss wks

    Was her invitation last minute?

    • sagecreek

Yep, she was out on the courts, but she showed up anyway. Such a trouper.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

The event is called “Decades of Glamour” and she wore this?!

  • LeelaST

So she spilled coffee on the real skirt and raided her gym bag? IDGI.

  • Little_Olive

How is that a designer skirt? No. Let me rephrase. How is it relevant that that is a designer skirt (not that the shirt looks that special either)?

  • Love the blouse and that colour on her; the skirt is a bit like workout gear, but I think she’s pulling it off. Maybe a belt would’ve helped.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Some women’s magazine once gave the advice that your skirt should never be wider than it is long. Looking at this, it seems like it was good advice. The top is overly large and overwhelm the skirt. She does have great legs, but her face looks weird to me, like he hair was pulled too tight causing her eyes to slant upward.

  • queeniethebold

Yikes! Trashy. Those white shoes are abominable.

i can’t get over how peculiar her eyes look. Is it the eyeliner? An eyelift? A combination of the two? i almost didn’t recognize her.

  • guyfromhoboken

    save this outfit for July.

  • allcapsERINN

Kate Hudson makes a guest appearance on Real Housewives of Miami

  • demidaemon

What kind of event was this where two minute hair and a tennis shorts skirt were acceptable? NO. Just no.

  • Jordynne Rios

Why does she look like Mulan right here?

  • elzatelzabelz

    Holy Sh*t, that is short.

  • Synnamin

Who knew elastic-banded skorts were back in fashion?

  • LaSylphide

Love the blouse (love yellow anything). Skirt length is ridiculous. White shirt and white shoes in February? My mother would have a heart attack: white after Memorial Day and before Labor Day, that’s the rule, no deviations allowed. I still feel guilty wearing white outside those dates. And is it me, or does she look nothing like Kate Hudson?

    • Madam Von Sassypants

Man, if we held onto every outdated rule there was, we’d be somewhere hideous and frumpy. It’s a ridiculous rule, plus homegirl is all bronzed in California. Not that I’m defending the look, but dismissing it because of white shoes after Labor Day is antiquated and silly.

  • She looks like a third tier WAG. Such a god damn tragedy.

  • elemspbee

Why can’t I shake the feeling that there is something quite obnoxious in this photo?

  • StellaTex

I think she’s gotten another nose job, and it’s a big improvement.

Also, both times I saw the thumbnail for this post, I thought it was JLo. Not even a question.

  • St. Ace

If she choose this outfit because she wanted to recreate how beautiful she was in that yellow dress in How to Lose a Man in 10 Days, she should have just worn that same dress.

  • Danielle West

This outfit seems more appropriate for an event in the Hamptons.

  • Danielle

From the neck up, I’m giddy. Love a good topknot.

  • prisma

Her eye makeup makes it look like her eyelids are tacked to the back of her head. I would kill to look that way in those skirt, though. White shoes like that will forever remind me of the Easter shoes I got when I was 13 in 1984. They’re a little classier than the Payless Shoe Source ones that I got, though. But similar.

  • AvaLehra

When I first logged on and saw the thumbnail I thought that was JLo.

  • MannahattaMamma

Why do we still have to pay attention to her?

    • colorjunky

Here, here. She was good once, in ALMOST FAMOUS. She looks so unnatural, too much snip, snip, tug, tug pour moi.

  • Malibufire

I love this girl, but whenever she wears her hair up, I can’t see anything but her ears.

  • amf0001

Miami lady of a certain age who lunches, and then goes to play tennis.

  • joannanyc

You can see how strongly she must resemble her maternal grandmother.
